Here is what this, or any other Publix in the area, ISN'T. It isn't cheaper than Kroger. Or Food Lion. Or any other local grocer. Sorry, the market basket or whatever is used to compare is.... selective. It isn't particularly good in terms of ready to eat food, which is one of the corporation's selling points. A recent visit to the sandwich / hot food / feed me area went something like this: Me -- I'd like a XXX sandwich (from the menu board.) Employee -- oh we don't have that. We've never had that. They don't send us the stuff to make it. It's just on the board. It isn't particularly awe inspiring in terms of its baked goods or other convenience items. The bakery stuff is equal to Kroger, no better. And the salad bar, goddess help me, is seldom stocked up, and the soups are either empty or burned up on the table. So what does Publix have that brings me in? A half-decent staff in the pharmacy. This alone stole about 30% of my food shopping from Kroger, that doesn't G.A.S. about pharma customers. I say "half decen"t only because there is a fair lack of follow up at least at this Publix if a doc's office doesn't call back with a refill or a drug is not in stock (no calls to the customer to tell them to try elsewhere. DRUGS, people. This ain't a bagel. We literary need them to live.) Also, some good BOGO deals on regular stuff. And importantly, very few stock outs on grocery items. They carry, them, they have them. No other local chain is that dependable. But overall the prices are high. So Publix will never get the bulk of our grocery biz. read more

I went to this Publix Pharmacy yesterday as the usual grocery store down the road didn't have any of the medicine I needed. I will deffinalty be making this my new go to pharmacy. I scan my hot food but not the cup of ice. This young single white female who's working the self checkout line came over to me a senior citizen black female took my cup of ice out my hand shook it and examined it for any liquids. So happy to see Publix open across the street from Food Lion. I expect Food Lion will be out of business soon and here's why. 1) Publix has everything. You need filet mignon? They have it. You can't get that at Food Lion. 2) They have WIDE aisles. I hated Food Lion's narrow aisles. 3) They draw decent clientele. Folks who don't have time to go to Wegmens will go to Publix because it's closer. 4) Prices are reasonable. You won't see Whole Foods price gauging here. 5) No loyalty program. Same low price for everyone. I hated having Food Lion's thingie on my keychain. Come to think of it... I hate having Wegman's on my keychain too. It's clutter. 6) They'll wheel your cart to your car. This new grocery store in the area is very nice. Everyone extremely friendly and helpful. Even the customers are nice. Since I'm a foodie, decided to try lunch here. Great choice. The fried chicken, southern potato salad and yeah I know, two starches. Potato wedges. DELICIOUS !! Chicken crunchy and flavorful, and the potato salad taste very close to homemade. Update time! Still four stars, but I just have to tell you about the prepared meals! I just had a baby and this mama does not have time to cook. Cooking is the farthest thing from my mind most days and so is cleaning up after said cooking. Ain't nobody got time for that! My mom told me that in the back by the seafood and meat area, there's a section of fully prepared take and bake meals at this Publix location. I went to check it out yesterday and people, she was right! I was there for a good 10-15 minutes trying to decide which ones to get. They all looked so, so, so good. Some examples: cornbread stuffed pork chops, a seafood boil with plenty of corn, potatoes, and sausage, a thick lobster tail, clams, and mussels, chicken stuffed with cream cheese and spinach (what I got), caribbean salmon, caribbean chicken, pork chops, crock pot meals, and so many more that I can't describe. People, you can't get that type of stuff in the frozen aisle. I made the stuffed chicken today and it was AMAZING! Hopefully my husband likes it, because I'm planning to continue buying it. It really is restaurant quality food minus the restaurant price. For $10 (chicken was $8 something plus $1 can of string beans), we both ate like we went out to a restaurant. Insane! Honestly, I had kinda sorta written off Publix. I still think some things (produce mainly) are way too expensive. I spent $80 on the two meals mentioned above, ingredients to make two homemade pizzas, a bottle of wine, 2 juices, and 2 cans of vegetables. Idk, yall, $80 is a lot for what will end up being 2 dinners and one lunch. Maybe I'm just dealing with a little sticker shock, who knows. But, those prepared meals have made a believer out of me, that's for sure. I'm already planning my meals for this upcoming week! Bonus points for having people to help you out to your car!!! When I bring my son grocery shopping, I like to take him in the stroller and put my groceries at the bottom. It's just way easier that way. Because of the helpers at Publix, getting back to my car with groceries and a stroller is much less of a hassle. Love it! read more

This place is awful. This is my second review of this place yet somehow they managed to get a "reset" from their previous poor yelp rating from numerous consumers. Not sure how that happened. Whether it be overpriced local "flown" in Rockfish at $28 a pound or the fact that it is over a week old and rotting when they sell it, publix can't be trusted to deliver a quality product.. or at least to know when to pull it off the shelf. Worst is that you pay more for shopping there. I fell victim again today buying a pre made meal that was awful and probably should have been tossed yesterday. If you're going to shop here pay close attention to the dates on all items and then give yourself a two day buffer on what is advertised. There are plenty of grocery stores in Richmond. Newly opened in my neighborhood & still finding super savings. With Sweet sister in law we found several 2fur deals not seen in online ads: in Starbucks, & in bakery. Got samples in deli & cookie samples so we proceeded to purchase Boars head beef bologna (get free 3 pack of specialty mustards) & couldn't resist 24 cookies for $2.75 :) Kitchen was setting up fried chicken so we shared an order if hot popcorn chicken. Did you know you can order your sub or wrap sandwich, flatbread pizza, or panini online. Made to order: you select date time place . Every encounter with staff was friendly & helpful. Some came from other Publix (hi to Charlotte, NC team member who came in to help in kitchen) & some staff from our Ukrop's/ Martins family. You'll see some familiar faces. A very nice addition to the Richmond area. Deli subs are excellent. Also like their fried chicken. We have ordered several of their custom birthday cakes and never have been disappointed. As for grocery shopping, you have to know the prices on items at other stores. Meats are more expensive here. Not alot of sales on coffee. Stores are so clean, all locations updated. Employees are super nice, never had a bad or even mediocre experience here. Wish they had fuel pumps or fuel rewards. That one reason keeps me going back to Kroger. read more

So this is our favorite publix in the area. They are always so nice and helpful but today they really took customer service to a level beyond what I have ever experienced. It's my son's 4th birthday party today so we ordered a cake in advance and picked it up this morning and stuck it in the fridge. But my sneaky little son snuck into the fridge while we were setting up for his party and tookl a giant chunk out of the cake with his fist. The cake was totally ruined. So I called the bakery just to see if there was anything we could get in a hurry that was my little pony related because he was set on having a pony party. The bakery was so kind that they made us a whole new pony cake and didn't charge us for it. It was the sweetest act of kindness I've ever experienced from a grocery store. I am SO SO GLAD we give publix our business. Shopping here is always a pleasure, they are always so kind to my son who tends to be cranky and so sweet to me when I'm frazzled and trying to check out with that cranky toddler. Seriously. Don't shop elsewhere. This publix is where it's at. You won't regret it. read more

I really WANTED to love Publix, and I was excited when I heard it was coming to the Richmond area. I visited on the first day it opened, and there were smiling, cheerful managers and employees greeting customers as they walked in the door. The bright, shiny, new store was oh so inviting. Several employees offered to carry my groceries to my car (I only had about 3 small items). Oh what a utopia of a grocery store. I HAD HIGH HOPES... Since opening day, I have been shopped on approximately 3 occasions, and it has been down, down, down It's a bright, neat store, but there is nothing special about this OVERPRICED place. Since the opening day, I haven't noticed any particularly helpful employees. Recently, several of the items I wanted were missing...but they had a cute little tag on the shelf saying "Sorry Temporarily Out of the Item". The deli counter has been a extremely S-L-O-W...there are not enough employees working back there. Getting some sliced Boars Head turkey really should not be such an arduous task!!! So in conclusion: Pretty, bright, neat store with OVERPRICED items. I don't mind paying extra for quality and great service. It's not worth paying the extra prices, because I don't find the customer service to be exceptional like I thought it would. It's a disappointment. read more

If I could rate a zero I would. Deli is horrible. Does not accommodate people with health issues. My wife and I both have diabetes and went to the Brook road location to shop. We wanted an 8 piece chicken meal to share with another family. It comes with two sides. The sides offered were all starch. No green vegetables. The person behind the counter was trying to be accommodating by offering green vegetables from another counter. The manager said we would have to pay extra for healthy green vegetables. What a joke. So, my friend is from Florida and would not stop talking about how amazing publix is. I went in and felt like I was in just another grocery store like the rest. I dont care for the color green but that's just me. The employees working there seemed to enjoy their job or maybe it was beaten into their heads to enjoy it perhaps? I dont know. Got a "famous" sub for what was actually a decent price, but was not all that impressed. The place was over all blah and just didnt see what all the excitement was about. They get people in there with bogo deals (buy one get one) but mark up the prices to cover bogo products. Did it get me? I'd heard so many people raving about Publix, so I decided to give it a whirl. Needless to say, I was incredibly underwhelmed. The Asian prepared food option was out of 5 or 6 different choices -- the only rice they had was white rice, and several of the meat options were also not available. The woman working that section of the store seemed annoyed with me while I was ordering, and came across as very rude that I was inconveniencing her by choosing things that she didn't have, even though the board did not indicate they were out. I'll likely give Publix another shot, simply because I didn't do any grocery shopping, but it'll be a while after this poor first impression. read more

This store is a great example of what I was expecting from Publix when they entered the Richmond market. If you've been impressed with Publix stores in SC and FL, this one won't disappoint. This is a new store that took over a Martins location (formerly a Ukrops location). This store is much better designed than the newly built Nuckols Road location. It's much easier to get in and out of the parking lot and the store does not feel as congested the Nuckols location. Having two entrance/exits vs one entrance and one exit also helps. The store felt over-staffed, but it's a new store and there's probably a lot of training going on. Prices seem slightly higher than other stores, but you're definitely getting superior service. If you just want a standard sized grocery store with good service, this is a nice addition to the area. read more

The grand opening service has disappeared at the Publix deli on Staples Mill Road. When they first opened it was like they had an army of customer service. Over the past month, I've watched the service drop at the Publix deli sandwich counter. I kid you not, I walked into their roped lane and stood at the ordering position. I stood there for 3 minutes before someone walking by said, "oh, have you been helped?", while two other staffers behind the deli meat stood and chatted to one another. Then just 3 days ago, I stopped by and decided to give it another go. Guess what. Same thing happened. Walked up and stood there for about 2 minutes waiting for someone to help me. All the while, there were two workers filling up the bread box in the counter and neither one offered a single word to me. And this was around 1:30 in the afternoon. So I just walked away, ran down the street to Firehouse Subs, and will not be going back to the Publix deli for sandwiches. And this is what Publix brags about, having the best subs and sandwiches?!? read more

This place beats out any other grocery store out there. They are fully stocked at all time, their deli's freshly cut meat is amazing, the meat reasonably priced and their subs are to die for. Their Produce is always fresh and reasonably priced. Their employees are very friendly and are very helpful. The assistant customer service manager was extremely helpful and a very pleasant person. I went here today for the first time and was disappointed with the customer service. My family and I decided to use the self checkout since the only had one lane open in the regular lines. The associate that was monitoring the self checkout was Liz and she was not shy about interrupting us. We were scanning our items and she randomly came over and stopped us to let us know that something had not scanned. She made us remove items from our bags and stop scanning and then she realized that she was wrong and nothing was missed. She then stood directly behind us watching everything we were doing and had something to say every two seconds. Overall, the store itself was average and the customer service was awful. read more

I have been numerous times to this new Publix grocery store. Also, I have lived in Florida for many years to I know this business well. On a positive note, the prepared foods are very good and I love their sub counter. The Bogos are a great deal (buy one get one) and I love the fact there is no need for a loyalty card to get the deals. (although they do have an online app for added coupons, etc). The one major problem I have with them is this store has a TERRIBLE restocking problem. Things are on sale but the shelf is bare.(speaking specifically to the individual salads in the produce dept and the prepared sandwiches in the deli area). I went 3 days in a row at 3 different times. No turkey sandwiches and the sale item, mozzarella/tomato ciaibatta sandwich were missing. When I inquired to the store manager she said "they are chilling", the next day another employee said we make them when they run out. No apologies, no concerns and just basically poor attitudes. Also make sure you check your receipts. The cherries rang up wrong price and one of the Bogos weren't given to me. So disappointed as I never had this problem with my Publix in Florida. read more
