Came up all the way from Chester for something and had time to stop by here for supplies to make a…read morebutternut squash curry I've been meaning to make for awhile now. Still pretty new to cooking this kind of food, so I knew I had lots of spices to add to my collection and sure enough this place had all the spices and pastes other places don't sell. Lots of selection and good Indian music playing helped my usual wound up personality relax a little and get lost in staring at the wide variety of things, many I'd never heard of. I took my time browsing and thankfully I wasn't bombarded by employees trying to help. Later on when I got home I just happened to notice 1 of the 11 items I purchased was past it's best by date. Got on here and apparently this I wasn't the first or second person to have this problem. The thing that gets me is there were tons of what appeared to be employees stocking vegetables, you would think at least one of them would be assigned to go out and keep an eye for past due dates on the shelves. Really wanted to like this place with a 5 star, the music and atmosphere were on point but I'm really disappointed I basically wasted $ on something that employees should have been checking themselves. So far away it's a little difficult for me to return. I'm a big fan of Desi next door, and I'm sure I'll be back in the future, but next time I go here I will definitely take it upon myself to keep an eye out for dates. No reason this should have happened when other people already left reviews like this.

Nick's Produce & International Food Market - Well there is an American flag and an entire globe. They need to pick a side.

Nick's is owned by several Nicks. Nick Nolte, Nic Cage, Nick Kruschev and Nick Elodeon. Mr. Elodeon…read moresays that kids love Nicks because of all the cartoons. I have no idea what that means, but they have good sandwiches. What to get: A Prosciutto sandwich with Fresh Mozzarella added, maybe What else: Expect an upcharge to add Fresh Mozz How to improve: Don't upcharge so much for Fresh Mozz (sigh) Nick's is a little run-down grocery store which sort-of feels like walking into a check-cashing shop or an urban convenience store that just happens to have a wonderful old-school NY-NJ style Italian deli inside. The deli itself is great, and makes a lot of awesome sandwiches for decent prices. As I said, I don't like the weird upcharges for certain ingredients, but so be it. It makes the prices of a sandwich soar from decent to ridiculous. The sandwiches aren't altogether authentic Italian NY-NJ style, but they are very good. I loved the parts of it that I had fresh, however when I had the rest of the sandwich a little later it had gotten extremely squidgy and soggy because they use a regular loaf of bread rather than anythng hard or Italian. Again, makes it less authentic but still very tasty. Despite these remarks, I haven't had a sandwich this good in the Richmond area before, so you should give it a try. And if it were Niche Produce, then they'd only sell unusual and hard to get hipster vegetables and sandwiches. Whereas if it wer Nix Produce, it would close down soon. And if it were Knickers Produce then I would have torn them down a lot more quickly and intensely than I did in this review.

Yelp tried to tell me but I didn't pay attention. Lesson learned…read more I'm a seafood snob. Grew up in Charleston, we would get our own oysters, crabs, shrimp, fish, so I know what good seafood is. Richmond has some respectable seafood but nothing like I had a Shoreline today. Did I mention my husband grew up in the Boston area? For him, lobster and clams are a weeknight dinner and his uncle, who was a lobster fisherman, would cringe at the lobster we've been eating. When you're away from the source, you have to make do. Not anymore. Shoreline Market has amazingly simple, well-prepared high quality food. And they do it for a decent price. I have a new favorite seafood place in Richmond. Came for lunch on a Saturday. We ended up getting the crudo, which was a tuna poke; lobster roll; clam sandwich; potatoes and salad, plus a bottle of Sauvignon blanc. Everything tasted great and was clearly masterfully prepared so the seafood was the star. All in our bill was around $90, totally reasonable for what we got. On the way out we bought more food to have at home. Fish stew and pimento cheese and another seafood soup. We work from home and are super close and HUGE fans of seafood, and the prepared foods they have is reasonably priced and fresh, so when we don't eat at the counter, we will take something home. I'm traveling this week and if I was home, I would have bought a few more items, such as the shrimp and artichoke pasta. We were told about these 10-course dinners they do so we booked one in May. So excited. I'm sad I didn't come sooner. I knew Shoreline opened but I assumed it was on the side of Patterson close to town. Glad to know they are right around the corner!
