I signed up for a fitness membership seven months ago, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've lost 19 pounds so far and I'm in better shape now at 40 than I was 20 years ago! The instructors are awesome, always making me feel welcome, providing lots of encouragement, and usually cracking jokes while leading the class through some serious workouts. The mixfit classes are a challenging blend of weight training and cardio that have really improved my strength and endurance. The mixfit instructor does a great job changing up the workouts to keep it interesting. The kickboxing classes are a great way to burn some calories and blow off some steam while practicing some of the Krav Maga techniques. I never thought I would look forward to my workouts like I do at Round Rock Krav Maga. I can't recommend this place enough for fitness! read more

Due to the current climate, I have finally had time to write a review for Round Rock Krav Maga. I've been a gym...err...a "family member" since last June. I had no idea what to expect and am usually easily intimidated by these sorts of gyms or anything involving self-defense. I was greeted with nothing but friendly faces and positive vibes. The lessons are always slightly changed just enough to keep you engaged and mentally stimulated, but not in a harsh crossfit like environment. They are also tailor to a wide range of fitness levels, and everyone is treated equally. Classes vary, so you can choose what works best for your comfort level, and work to higher levels if you need a challenge. Also, I've seen so many members lose weight, and have a blast doing it...so it's a weight-loss gym in Round Rock, as well. They let you try classes for free, so you have nothing to lose, but the weight and whatever fear you had before joining. I've worked from home for 10 years, and this locally owned, self-defense gym, truly felt like a blessing, and filled a void for me on so many levels. I will forever be grateful. I did the commercial gym for ages with no results, but Round Rock Krav Maga was different and I finally saw results, emotionally and physically. read more

Review has been a while coming. This is easily the best training facility in the Austin Area. What makes its special: - it is an extremely positive and amazing place to learn. - the owners are experts in their field - Mrs. Hardy and her son are great instructors as are the team that they have assembled - great mix of students , all age ranges and experiences and EVERYONE is treated equally. Experience doesn't get you a pass. Great Value - you will not find a place that offers the range of instruction and classes that this facility does. - you can literally take up a whole Saturday running from class to class - classes are open you don't have to sign up - specialty classes are offered in disarming and other niche areas - these classes are incredible. I attended for a year before covid hit with my son- it was always a positive experience and we both learned a lot. This business is run like a family by people That are experts in Krav Maga - they take it seriously - but they have great senses of humor and the classes are educational and there are always some laughs to be had. read more

I've tried gyms before that advertise kickboxing classes that are just hiit workouts, but this is one of the few that not only offers amazing workout classes but also skills that you can apply in real life situations that could save your life. Really solid programs. I did a lot of research before picking a Krav gym, and I initially went to them because they're the only one in town officially licensed, but I ultimately chose this as my home gym because of the great instructors and atmosphere. All of the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the instructors go out of their way to help students, often staying late after classes. My family also joined their fitness program and love the diversity of classes and intensity of workouts. I personally take the MixFit class along with Krav and have been impressed with the increased strength and muscle definition I've gained. Being self conscious I would have never dreamt of stepping foot into a place full of people with various levels of fitness. I had hit a point in my weight loss where my normal routine was not enough and I needed something to push me and my body to its fullest potential. I found it in krav maga. Stepping foot through the doors you get the sense that everyone regardless of their fitness capabilities is supportive and encouraging of one another, the atmosphere is very welcoming and inviting. I honestly had no idea what to truly expect walking out onto the mats but under the watchful eye of fitness instructor Kerri you are pushed and challenged mentally and physically in an hour long workout. Each instructor brings their own style to the way they teach their class, if you feel you are at a level where you need something more challenging there is a class for you. If you are someone looking to get in shape and carrying around a few pounds you'd like to shed there's a class for that as well. Whatever your fitness capabilities are there is an instructor in krav that can push you to achieve what you walked in looking for. This location is a family operated establiahment which in my opinion delivers a better overall experience that you wouldn't achieve going to a multi chain corporate style gym or location. There has been numerous success stories that have come just out of this location alone and the owners and family members are always there to answer any questions or even work with you before or after class on maybe something you are having difficulty with. Like any other membership you have monthly dues but you can pay more to go to a golds gym and work out alone and hope you are doing it correctly or pay the monthly due to krav be surrounded by a support team and have someone watch you and your form to make sure each thing you are doing is perfect. Ok, new review for this place from me. The trainers 5 out 5, these people are great. They work with the customers very well and are very inspirational. Some are better than others, but all are awesome. Sometimes the classes are small, other times they are big, which is great, it gives the ability to have some 1 on 1 with a instructors, but also interact with other students. 5 out of 5 for location, location is great and near many neighborhoods. 5 out of 5 for cardio. They work great on trying to keep you going with what you can do, just enough to say, "Wow, that was a great workout!" 5 out of 5 for empowering people to take advantage of their own fate. The only thing I had a issue with is the billing company they have. I went back and forth with them a few times with no results. I took a couple of Shari's kickboxing classes and LOVED them! Not only was it a great workout, but I met some great friends through the classes I took. Shari was extremely motivating, but not too pushy- the right balance in a fitness instructor. This is a very special fitness program. I had to move, and I really miss it. 1) CEO Ryan Hardy's years of experience with Krav Maga as well as ground fighting, weapons, boxing, personal training and practical real world personal and third party self defense is an excellent foundation for a school. BUT unlike so many schools who hire instructors based on their fighting ability instead of their, often shaky, teaching skills - 2) Self Defense Texas instructors really care about the work of teaching, and if you pay attention to them, it's clear they continually learn and improve as educators as mutually supportive, lifelong students of their chosen martial art. The teaching style here is EXCELLENT. I've taken a lot of classes, and I have never been able to learn so quickly and retain so much. After a warm up, they demonstrate each move with 2 instructors - then break it down & explain how it works. They'll watch as you try it with your partner so that if necessary, they can stop everyone to provide feedback or have the class try it together as a group. They let you practice (i.e., really LEARN) while both instructors AND (usually) additional instructors walk around answering questions, adjusting your technique and providing examples & pointers. It helps that the moves in Krav Maga were designed to work with the body's natural instincts & motion making it easier to learn. From the first week, your situational awareness & reaction time begins to improve. (Before you can defend yourself, you have to overcome the tendency to freeze in confusion so you can act or run away from danger). 3) The Fight Fitness program truly sets Self Defense TX apart from other schools. President & Chief Fitness Instructor Shari Hardi's background as a Krav Maga, Kickbox, and Women's Self Defense instructor informs a fitness program that draws on many types of highly effective and fitness moves. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, I BEG, TAKE YOUR DESIRE, ENERGY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOUR MONEY TO ANOTHER PLACE!!! I come from a pretty athletic background (D1 football plus golden gloves) and signed up for the class after taking my free class. I cancelled a week later after my 2nd class because I didn't find it challenging. I went in there to cancel my membership and a young guy there wrote & stated there was void on my contract; even told me that's all that was needed for membership cancellation with a smile. Whether or not he knew or didn't but THIS PLACE requires you to write a certification letter to the billing company to cancel your membership. Upon sign up, you have to place your sig on the contract for 1 year. Whats deceiving is after 1year membership, they place you in automatic enrollment-84$ a month. Regardless if you attend classes or not, 84$ dollars to them. Mind you, the certification letter takes 30days for effect so you still pay for a whole month AFTER you cancel. I MOVED OUTTA THE COUNTRY FOR 1.5 YEAR(s) and still was getting tagged with payment. It wasn't until I got back and see that I have a balance from them because they took over 1K and there wasn't any more money left in my account. Just go somewhere else where once you say you want your membership cancelled, its cancelled. At least, from the gyms and clubs that Ive joined, they adhere to what the customer desires. Providing a healthy business practice where protocol is pretty simple is what solidifies a relationship between a customer and business. As you can read from the previous reviews..no phone pick ups, not enough attention to actual boxing and boxing bags, the automated billing system...its a repetitive thing; don't do it! RECONSIDER!!! When my husband and I decided to join Krav Maga we never expected the level of service that we have received from Shari and Ryan over the past 4 years. It has been an amazing experience. I no longer worry about my kids going out at night. I know they can defend themselves and others if needed. I no longer worry about going out at night by myself. I have been trained on what to do in every situation. There are many things I am willing to give up, but Krav Maga is not one of them. In addition to the self defense training, they also have amazing fitness and nutrition classes and have rape prevention classes a couple of times a year. Decent place. Workouts are intense and interval training. I got a deal from them at groupon and it only covered some classes not all. So far it's okay... but as I said the workouts are extremely intense and all classes are really intense. I asked the instructor for an easier class and he said they have no easy classes. The workout instructors are pretty hardcore, they want to see you reach your max. I nearly passed out from one of the workouts... And the instructor was like keep moving!!! Common!!! She was rude and not understanding. If you like bootcamp workouts then this place is for you. The boxing classes are not regular boxing classes, it's more like doing jumping jax, push-ups, squats and then you throw a few punches at the bag. It's tough because some ladies in the class only lasted 20 minutes then left. It's tough to stay for a full hour. I just wish the kickboxing class could have concentrated more on the bag. Instructors know there stuff and are dedicated to passing this down to their students. It's challenging but very rewarding. The instructors create a friendly environment and are extremely dedicated to their craft and authenticity of this fight discipline. The level test are very reminiscent of some military schools I have attended. If you have what it takes this could be for you but it requires discipline. read more

Coming here is the best part of my day. I just started a few weeks ago after I'd been robbed at gunpoint. I didn't waste any time trying to find a place to learn self defense. I talked with Ryan Hardy, the owner, and he encouraged me to come try a class. The night I went, those instructors treated me like family the minute I walked in. Every instructor there introduced themselves to me. One of them, Laura, even partnered up with me. Then Laura and Doug, another instructor, showed me how to disarm a gun, explaining that it was a skill I would eventually learn. Sam and Amanda, who taught the class, were so encouraging and uplifting. I got such personalized treatment and I've seen lots of newcomers since who are given the exact same special treatment. I signed up the same night and since that day nothing has changed with these guys. They treat me like family whenever I walk in, the classes are amazing, I'm already seeing changes in my body, and more importantly I feel safer walking at night. And p.s. the cancellation/freezing policy is clearly outlined in the contract and the instructors go over it with you thoroughly. It's not their fault people can't follow directions. read more

At first I walked in excited to get started, Once I joined the people were rude, impersonal, and the gym was dirty. My schedule changed with school and work so I was never able to make it because there hours are so selective. About 6 months later they start screwing me over on my payments! Over $100 a month and they are only open a few hours! I moved and I tried to cancel because i lived over 25 miles away, and they wouldn't void my membership because "You could just take the toll way and it would only be 23miles..." BS!!! If they want to pay for my toll bill then just fine but they are not so I'm writing this review. I do not recommend this to anyone! read more

I was in a contract with Self Defense Texas for Krav and fitness. I signed a year contract starting in September 2011. When I attempted to cancel my membership due to medical reasons I was tossed back and forth from the actual fitness center to American Payment services who collects and bills me for the membership. After declining to cancel my membership even with a doctor's note saying that I could no longer participate, I had to have a meeting with the CEO Ryan Hardy and share my personal medical history even though I was uncomfortable doing so, and he finally agreed to let me out. This ordeal took 1 month to finally get his approval to let me cancel. Ryan told me that he would cancel my membership on the last week of August after our meeting. However, when I spoke to American payment services on Aug 30, they told me that Ryan had specifically instructed them to draft me and charge me for the whole month of September before canceling my membership! When I contacted Ryan again, he said that it wasn't up to him to refund my money. I asked who had the authority and he said no one! I reminded him he was the CEO but he refused to help me further. He has ignored me and my e-mails. I was seriously disappointed at the lack of customer service shown to me. Ironically, the classes are meant to teach you to defend yourself, and the owner is the biggest bully of them all! read more

This place will give you a good workout, but is bad on customer service. First off, no one will ever answer the phone, that is the first clue. I think they are screening phone calls. When you show you are interested in joining this group they are quick to call back and leave phone messages and try to reach you multiple times, they really want you to join. I joined and was locked in for the year. They told me after the first year I could cancel at any time no problem. I already lived a distance away and would have to travel 30 mins to make it to classes, and then I moved further away making the trip just not possible. I knew I was still locked in contract for the year, and waited my time. When finally my year was done I tried contacting and no one would ever answer the phone, I left multiple phone messages and no one would ever contact me back. I wrote formal emails, and still no one would ever get back in contact with me to cancel membership. I had to change my bank card to get the charges to stop, and then the credit service called me for back payments. I couldn't believe it, I told them I was out of contract and had tried to cancel membership multiple times. They still continue to call every once in a while. This gym is NOT worth the headache! read more

I can not say enough good things about this place! Love the instructors Shari is my fav i must say she is always willing to help with any questions wether about nutrition or fitness. She pushes you to do your best as do all the staff there. I have not looked this good or felt this good about my body in a long time i have lost over a hundred pounds in the last year with the help of them at Krav Maga Round Rock. As far as what others have said on their reviews i have had no issues with billing i understood when i signed my contract that i would be responsible for it for a year and after that it went to a month to month basis in which i must give 30days notice to cancel(just read your contract before you sign). I recomend this place to everyone. Now dont get me wrong you must be serious about wanting to get into shape dont expect to eat whatever you want and go to the gym once a week and see results thats just not going to happen. If you are looking for somewhere to burn a ton of calories and be pushed to your limit this is the place!! Don't waste your money! There are only so many KM franchises in a given market, and, sadly, this one is seriously lacking in professionalism, safety, broad class schedules, and quality instructors who care, compared to what can be found elsewhere in the Austin area. It appears the owner has one foot out the door and probably should just retire to his lake house, where it seems he would rather have been Apparently, it's a fraternity of the few and the only way to pass a KM belt test is to be in their fraternity; didn't seem to be based on any real demonstration of mastery of the KM techniques. (Another Austin area KM location I observed to be much more objective in their belt tests). One of the male instructors is pretty good, but one of the female instructors had a real screw-you attitude. I saw another female instructor injure one of the students in the head--no real regard for safety there. The class schedules are limited, nothing in the mornings or afternoons. Parking is a real challenge as it's just a small retail strip center. I would never step foot in there again or spend another dime with them. read more
