My son blended in well and enjoyed rolling with the well trained students. We talked them into allowing him to join the evening youth comp class. After class my son was acknowledged for doing well and was invited back for the rest of the week! My son was so excited to go back every day... especially Saturday for open mat.

I am visiting for the week and decided to train here as I began my bjj training at a Six Blades affiliate in the Bay Area. The gym is immaculate and should be a considered a temple in the bjj community. Xande is down to earth and breaks down technique in a manner that leaves you a better athlete after every session. The staff at Six Blades Austin is welcoming and made an effort to remember my name after the first time meeting me which shows an emphasis on customer service that is rare in the fitness community. I've been going to the lunchtime class which is generally a smaller group anywhere you go but there was a still a good variety of belts in the room to work with. I've visited many other gyms that struggle to place an emphasis on cleanliness and timeliness in the way that Xande and his team do here. Just about the only knock for me was that it was a 20 minute drive from where I was staying in east Austin, but I had a rental car so it worked out.

I made the mistake of not doing any research or reading reviews before joining William Vandry's BJJ…read moregym. Just a few minutes reading some past reviews (see below) could have saved me time, money, and peace. I'm not surprised he has the worst reviews of any BJJ school in Austin. I am writing this review as someone who has been a student and has attended his evening classes 2-3 per week for the last 9 months. On the positive side, (I am a beginner in BJJ) but I do believe that William is extremely experienced and skilled in BJJ and has a wealth of knowledge to give students wanting to learn. He's probably ideal for black belts. In almost a year of going, I only met a few of the guys on his website photos. I have met many who left now. The guys I met were a really good group of guys. In fact I learned mostly from them - Ian, Tony, Markus, Clem, Ben, and Nan. I'm super grateful to have met them and will miss them. They are an older, wiser, humble, and patient bunch - almost all are black belts. William keeps safety a priority and with likeminded students I felt safe there. I believe William has learned from past criticisms and keeps the gym fairly clean. William conflates his mastery of BJJ with his expertise in all other disciplines. He is compelled to pontificate on everything. It is very common to hear him wax (not so eloquently) on any random subject for at least 15-20 minutes of an hour class. HE WILL NEVER START A CLASS ON TIME. To be fair, he will always go over on time. I think he understands that starting late and hearing him talk about random things other than BJJ takes at least a half hour or more of his instruction and rolling. William is a large man but that pails in comparison to his ego. His regular rants are negative and belittling of all areas of life. He thinks he knows more than doctors but has never been to medical school. He knows more than lawyers but has never been to law school. He knows more than politicians, pastors, Wall Street, pharma, the media, Universities, and other gyms. I will miss rolling with his students but will not miss his toxic environment of negativity and criticisms. While William is strong in stature, he is equally fragile in character. When you go to his gym he is god and the ultimate judge of everything. If you are not a yes man, you will find it hard to fit into his cult. (And yes he has bizarre thoughts on religion and theology too) Again, I am writing this review so that no one else loses their time, money, and peace. Consider yourself warned.

The story describes completely different situation I am a father of 1 child (not 2) like the other father, and no one cared for their child to win or had a screaming child. There was no second son, no pushing the son to win, no issues at home, no refusal to take my child out. I took the child out and the owner asked me not to do so but it was a safety concern. PERIOD. No drama. Just wanted a clean break. My review was not a personal attack. It was simply a review of the business. Business has changed locations since then, so the smell is probably no longer an issue (increasing to 2 stars), but it was a well-known FACT at the time. The comradery for adult members was superb(not sure now), but there were serious safety issues for children at the time and hopefully in 11 years some improvements have been made, and I will keep my review right where it is because it will motivate children's safety, which is important.

I have been in the martial arts for 25 years and was an amateur fighter for the Marine Corps MMA team in 2008 for context. I'm now a 41 year-old, fat old blue belt, I'm retired. This is just a hobby for me. I train the 6 AM classes with Professor Luke Griffith primarily. The owner, Professor Gordon Ryan is there several days a week for the early classes as well. Professor John Danaher currently teaches the 7am Advanced Gi class. The No Gi Pro Classes start at 9am and they have no Gi classes all day from there. I do my best to attend the 930am on Saturday and Sunday when I have the energy, that is taught by Professor Helena Crevar, or by Professor John Danaher when she is out of town competing or doing seminars. The facilities are perfect. I have zero complaints there. The showers are amazing. The mat space is perfect and there is a spring board underneath the mats for more cushion and absorbing falls and throws. The coaching staff is world class. Everyone is the best in their division in the world. Which is crazy and unheard of. But most importantly, they are patient and kind throughout their teaching. I have trained with professional fighters before in the past at other gyms, just because someone is a pro doesn't mean they are good at coaching or that they have the patience to teach. I'm very appreciative for the amount of patience these instructors have for myself and my training partners. I would be here even if my coaches weren't world champions. Their patience and professionalism is what keeps me coming to class every day. I'm a big guy, so it's hard to find a uniform that fits me comfortably but for some reason the company they are working with (Breakpoint) has been a perfect fit for my body type. I'm very fortunate for that as well. The gi they sell is a pearl weave so it won't shrink from washing or become too stretched during training. It's a good quality gi. I'm very impressed with it. The cost for training here currently is very competitive compared to the other schools in the same location and area of Austin. Almost all the schools in Austin are moving to the $250-$400 range. There is a school right down the street that is charging $400 a month. So this school is actually more affordable than local alternatives at the moment. I really appreciate the schedule that is available to me as a student. I love that I can train seven days a week. I really feel like I'm getting my money's worth here. I can't think of any cons or disappointments in training here. Every day is a blessing and I'm very fortunate to have this opportunity.

It's got a nice vibe, there's always random people from out of state or out of country who came to Austin just to train here. A lot of local school head instructors train here too It's very high level, but there's a ton of white belts too Facility is very nice, especially the bats and bathrooms If there are cons it would be the price, but then again it's a lot cheaper than attending a seminar from one of the coaches I also don't love how gi based it is, would've expected a lot more no gi classes . But if John and gordan say I need to train in the gi, who am I to argue

Children's classes run four days a week Mon - Thu 4:15-5:00pm for kids ages 4-6 and Mon-Thu 5:00-6:00pm & Sat mornings at 9 for kids 7and up . Adult classes are daily and staggered with multiple training times to fit your needs so if you can't show up for BJJ at noon for example there is also an evening class you can attend. Judo ,Muay Thai and Boxing are set on various days and like the Jiu-Jitsu class there are usually more than one class on the specific days set for those classes . This place has the most patient and very well rounded instructors around Austin. They take the time to go over technique and fundamentals for all new comers. My son joined when he barley turned 6 and is now 7 and loves every moment of his experience here and plans to make it a lifetime sport. Sean and Jillian Cooper owners of Cooper MMA are extremely accomplished individuals and well rounded in MMA with several years and certifications under their belts. They are great at getting shy kids to focus and really unleash their full potential. Coach Eric is outstanding and an extremely patient instructor. Never once has he had a negative reaction when someone isn't understanding something but instead through positive reinforcement redirects the kids until they are successful at whether he is trying to teach them even if he has to take them aside individually for a second and go over the fundamentals and techniques until they get it rite. Coach Duce and Coach Scott are equally supportive and great with children and have the upmost interest in genuinely helping you understand how to properly defend yourself wether it be boxing or Jiu-Jitsu . These instructors make this place the amazing experience that it is and truly love what they do. Cooper MMA is giving free one week trials and discounts to those who have multiple people in one family sign up at a time . I highly recommend coming in to try a free week to see if you like it and I guarantee if you decide to stick with it you will notice a big difference in you or your child's confidence. Everyone needs to have a level of self awareness and self defense at some point in their lives it's never too late . They have currently moved to a new location at 12129 N FM 620 RD SUITE 330 AUSTIN, TX 78750 And are currently finishing up construction but will have two showers two restrooms and a lot more when complete . It is still a functional gym and classes are in full swing . 512-335-0800 INFO@COOPERMMA.COM

The classes I've attended the most are the morning classes Professor Davis definitely has a lot of high level moves and concepts but breaks it down so that it's scaffolded to all levels. He's literally said 'you can stop here if you're comfortable.' He's also very accessible, both as an instructor and just as a human being. There isn't a rigid formality here so if you have a question or are frankly, lost like I frequently am you can just stop and ask for help without being afraid of being 'that guy.' I had to pause due to surgery/recuperating and it was as easy pausing my billing and being told if I needed more time to just let them know. I'm looking forward to get back on the mats and start training again-where I'm definitely going to have to ask a lot of questions.

So, I decided to try Title Boxing Gym on Research Blvd. I signed up for a 60-minute boxing class with 15 minutes of core work. The energy was high, the coach motivating, and the workout not for the faint at heart. The class started with a warmup and gradually transformed into a fast paced, intense cardio and strength class. The class included boxing fundamentals with strength conditioning that really pushed you to the limit. No prior boxing experience was needed, although one of the managers stepped me through the basics. In the boxing class, the coach called out 1 2 3 4 5 6, which referred to the standard punch number system coaches use to call out combinations quickly. The standard meanings are 1 = Jab (lead hand, straight), 2 = Cross (rear hand, straight), 3 = Lead hook, 4 = Rear hook, 5 = Lead uppercut and 6 = Rear uppercut. To be honest, she was calling out the number so fast at first, it was hard to keep up. At my prior class, they would say jab, cross, upper, and hook. She was kind to come over and ask if I needed help. When I told her I was not used to hearing just the numbers, she added the description. After a short while, I was able to catch on. We performed combinations and ran around the room or did burpees (hate burpees) between sets. Title gym is clean, organized, and set up to handle a room of boxing rigs. The music, lighting, and overall vibe helped keep motivation high. Our coach was super motivating yet challenging. The front desk manager was kind to show me around Title gym.
