Went to Kove kitchen today and it was pleasantly surprising! The sun came out, so we decided to dine on the patio. It's was a great view and location, with perfectly placed umbrellas if the sun got too hot. We ordered Cobb salads and a burger, all of which were amazing! The burger was stacked high and hard to bite into, but it was done right! With mushrooms and truffle aioli, it really hit the mark. The service was really on point as well. Keep killing it! I went to Kove Kitchen last night for dinner. We were seated immediately as it was fairly empty. It took about 10 minutes to have water brought to us and to have our waiter introduce himself. Took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Ordered the fried chicken and my girlfriend ordered the salmon burger. The salmon burger was very good and my fried chicken was absolutely delicious. However, at no point did our waiter come to check on us to see how the food was or if we needed more water or another drink. To me, service is a key component to the restaurant experience. I have to give Kove Kitchen 3 stars because of the lack of service I received. However, if I go again and the service is better, I will definitely update this to a higher rating. read more

This location used to be Mandalay steakhouse and now they rebranded as Kove and changed the menu. We ordered truffled fries, fried chicken and the steak. The fries and the steak were delicious. The chicken was juicy however one of the pieces was undercooked and raw in the middle. They made us a new one but the crust was burnt. You can tell they don't want to serve us raw chicken again so they overcooked the new piece. Overall is not bad, probably won't order chicken again though. read more

The menu looked promising on our Sunday visit to Steveston Village. The place looked about 30% occupied so we were promptly seated. Menu and water soon followed. And unfortunately that was the best part of this experience. We were seated at 1pm, it took the waitress 10 minutes before her first greet and took our orders... We then proceeded to wait forty minutes for our food, which never showed. We decided we will no longer wait and left. On the way out, the only acknowledgement from the hostess was a trite and condescending "sorry about that". Not coming back ever. And the owners really need to read their reviews, we are not the only patrons to have issues with the service. read more

This place was amazing in the food department, but honestly, the service is what sets them apart. The waitress went above and beyond to bring us toys for the kids, paying attention to all the details and things we might need, and treating us like we were the most special people in the room. This has become our one our "go to" places for when we eat out just because we don't want to cook (we live in the area). I cannot say enough good things about the butter chicken poutine!!! Get it. You've been told. The burger is ok, with some nice options. The fries are great, and generally they do comfort food well. The staff is always friendly, and they have little toy boxes they bring out for our toddler (ok, ok, I also play with the Lego). Came here for the first time with a girlfriend and had the truffle fries and red Sangria, both were really good!! Second time came for a date night with the hubby and found the ambiance to be very nice. The room was nicely lit and the service very friendly and welcoming. For an appy we had the Sriracha wings which were delicious. For dinner we shared the Mushroom Supreme burger with fries. Although I found the patty to be very large it was still tasty. My husband really enjoyed it and didn't find it to be too much. We would definitely come back here again. I had dinner here with a friend and again with My husband we enjoyed an early dinner and had no issues with our food, I ordered the steak and to my surprise I'm happy to report they know how to cook steak!!!! Decided to try Kove Kitchen, had previously been there when it was Mandelay's It was in August and we sat outside. We were not in a hurry, we had been looking forward to a relaxing dinner, Our starters and dinners all arrived at the same time...not very classy. One of the waitress spent most of the time we were there talking to the table behind us is what be thought was Russian. It was very disruptive and not at all professional. We probably won't go back there as the food was just o.k. and the service certainly needs work. I have been here numerous times and really enjoyed the food. The crab cakes (including crab cake benny), truffle fries, spaghetti bolognese are favourites! Service is hit and miss, though. Sometimes service is fantastic: attentive, friendly and prompt. Other times, you're waiting 20 for someone to come by. Once, I took my family there for brunch. The open signs were out, including the sandwich boards that are outside the restaurant. The doors were wide open. Yet, when we went in, we were asked to come back as the restaurant was not open yet. Then why do you have all the "open! Come in!" Signs up?! Plus, they should have invited us in and told us the kitchen wouldn't be open for another 5 to 10 min. That would have been much better customer service. If service was better overall, I would give this restaurant 4 stars. read more

As was the case with the former Mandalay, this is the best spot to hang out in Steveston bar none. Good selection of finger foods and appetizers with a good selection of wines and beers on tap. Went here for lunch last weekend and I won't be rushing back any time soon. The food took forever to arrive, and when it finally did none of it was hot. My burger bun was soggy and the fries were awful, couldn't even eat them! My girlfriend and my mom shared a couple appies that they said were decent at best and also showed up barely warm. Not a Place for Specialized Events: This was our third visit to this place. The first was amazing. We went on a Friday night and I had the seafood pasta, which was phenomenal, and the Belgian beers they had on tap were exquisite. The second time was severely mediocre as I had the steak and they sliced it up before it arrived at the table, and I hate that. Mandalay did that as well. This time, we went in for Mother's Day brunch. Irena served us and she was incredible. Very personable, jovial and attentive. But, we both ordered the crab cake benny and was surprised to see it arrive with the crab cake and English muffin. A bit superfluous and mildly defeats the purpose. My wife asked for hers to be "rock-hard" which she has struggles getting it the way she likes it, but when her order arrived, it was no where near hard-poached. Now, Irena was extremely apologetic and gracious but management decided not to comp or discount anything for the inconvenience as we were all finished by the time my wife received her brunch. We were looking for a place to eat and was around the area, thought we give it a try. This used to be Mandalay and not sure if Kove Kitchen is run by the same owner. Walked in on a Thursday at 7pm, with a table of six dining in one corner and a few hanging at the bar. We stood there waiting for a few minutes and then a lady from the bar got up from a stool and greeted us. And all this time we thought she was a customer. We ordered the wings, maple fried chicken and creme brûlée. The wings was very small, next was the maple fried chicken. Big portions but very bland. Told the waitress about it and she said ya I will let the chef know. The creme brûlée was the worst. Top glazed was way to thick, couldn't even break it with my spoon. The vanilla creme was good. Told the waitress again and she said maybe the chef put too much sugar on top then used the torched to melt it. We each had a piece of the maple fried chicken leftover and got those packed to go. Waitress asked if we will be coming back again and I politely said yes but not for what we had tonight. On the plus side, I reheated my leftover and pour honey over it and it tasted so much better. If you want real good honey fried chicken I recommend Chewies. We will not be coming back to Coves again. read more

Had brunch here on the weekend, and it was great. Tried two different eggs Benny's with my wife, and was very impressed. Also, we ordered a couple items off the kids menu, and we were also happy that it wasn't your typical kids menu fare. Basically scaled down versions of the full sized items off the menu. Used to be called Mandalay, which was my favourite restaurant ever. When I came to eat here quite a few weeks ago, there was a sign that said there was flooding so they've had to shut down. Now they're reopened as Kove Kitchen with more seafood style options. Came here to try it out and was disappointed to see that they got rid of the chicken tagliatelle dish. Please bring it back! They still had my old favourites such as the butter chicken fries and the crème brulé which were the same as always and was delicious. I tried out their new burgers which they explained that the meat is made fresh in house. The burger was huge and was alright. No complaints but no praises either. The staff as per usual is always nice. Would have given this place a 5 stars if they bring back more things from the old menu read more

We Focus on Healthy Eating? Fabulous sunny day on a great patio at Kove. First time there. We decided to make a meal out of appetizers. Kalamari, Spinach, crab and artichoke dip, and Post Office Artichokes. Drinks, of course. I had wine and my friend asked for a virgin Caesar. That's when the hilarity began. I'm paraphrasing here, but, it was something like "We're into healthier eating here, so we don't use clamato juice". Well, it's not really a Caesar then, is it? Is Clamato juice bad for me? I thought it was just the vodka that was bad for me. The kalamari came with some spicy mayo. We asked for tzatziki. "We're into healthier eating, so, we don't have tzatziki." It's YOGURT!! Is there anything healthier than that?? The spinach dip was served with corn chips from a bag. Very healthy. The dip was full of slimy spinach with a tiny bit of crab on top. Awful. The rest of the menu does not reflect "healthy eating". The usual burgers, fries, fish and chips, etc. Frankly, if I'm going out for a meal, I am not about to behave as to nutrition. And I don't want to be lectured about it. I would go back to Kove just for a drink on the fab patio, but, will never eat there again. read more

We went there for a birthday on friday night, 9 of us! The waitress (brunette with culry hair) took our order than just disappeared, very poor food, very poor service! wasnt even busy! Than we ordered one of each desert and brought candles for them... Never saw any desert, nor candle nor apologize nor nothing!!!!! Than we have been charged for things we never received, and when we said : sorry, we havent received this this and this, not a sorry or nothing, they took it off of the bill (but didnt changed the amount of the gratuity: I am sure the 18% gratuity should have changed with a different amount...) Terrible service, and the waitress made around 90$ tips on our table for the worst service I ever had! Definitely avoid this place, its a tourist trap on the pier! Visited this restaurant a couple times when they were Mandalay Bay. Went in for lunch: was greater by a frazzled hostess/waitress who assumed we wanted to sit outside and said we'd have to wait. We wanted to sit inside which was totally dead. My guess is they wanted to appear busy. Ordered appetizer to share which was alright. Husband got the Bolognese which he said tasted like hamburger helper. (Side note he got minor food poisoning and has been running to the bathroom ever since, sorry if TMI). I had the artichoke post office appi and side caesar as my entrée. Caesar was dry with packaged croutons and my artichoke things were raw. The Manager took that off the bill. But needless to say we won't be going back. Maybe to try a burger because they looked good when others ordered. But may not risk it. read more

Food & Bevvies: - Salmon burger (with optional side of yam fries) -- friend ate this... she killed it... so, I assume it was yuuuuuuuuummy... - Bacon and cheese burger (with optional side of onion rings) -- was yuuuuuuummy as well... served with 2 sauces (Dijon and tarter-ish)... gooood stuff~~~... good, thick patty -- and cooked "just right" (not too dry)... and, "crispy" bacon -- the way it should be~~~ - Fried Chicken (comes with mashed potatoes) -- was on special this day (~$17-ish dollars)... huge portion for the chicken with nice, thick gravy... yummy as well...... personally, I dig more garlicy mashed potatoes, but many don't (so, I get why they weren't more garlicy -- I suppose we could have requested that... oh well~) - Kid's meal, Fish&Chips -- perfect for our son -- he killed it... yummy, indeed - Sangria (white) -- ordered 2 pitchers............. good stuff!... Seating and Service: - 6pm-ish, sat on the patio... at this point, server told us it wasn't patio-season quite yet, but we were welcomed to sit there -- thus, no cushions... but, 10 minutes into sitting, the owner (Jennifer) came and brought us cushions (very cool of her~~~)........... 9 of us went after the Steveston dragon boat festival. It appeared the place was about 3/4 full. We were seated and placed our orders. The waitress appeared after about 10 minutes and informed us that there was a large order ahead of us so our food would be about 20 minutes, would we like to order a salad or something. We decided another 20 minutes would be ok to wait. Occasionally the server would stop by and tell us that it would not be much longer. In the meantime we watched 2 or three other tables arrive, order and receive their food and in fact leave before our food arrived. The 20 minute wait be became 50 then 60 min and ended up being an hour plus. Finally our food arrived and for the most part was decent. The server informed us that the manager felt they should buy us desert. We thought ok that is good, making up for less than stellar service. When the desert arrived they brought 3 creme brule's to share between the 9 of us and one of those was not made correctly and did not have the carmelized sugar on top. While there a visit to the washroom found the men's washroom with water pooling on the floor and no paper towels in the washroom. All in all not a great experience. Will we go back? We came here for brunch with some family members from out of town expecting to have a great brunch and visit, because we have been regular customers here for dinner and it's always been great. When we got there around 12 for lunch the restaurant only had a couple tables of people so we were seated quickly and didn't take long until the waiter came over to ask us if we would like drinks, which took about 10 minutes to get once ordered. We ordered one appetizer and our entrees (for 4 people). It took 45 mins for us to even see our appetizer, which was surprising since the restaurant wasn't busy at all. About 15 minutes later we get our entrees and were appalled with the over easy eggs on one of our meals which resembled a melted piece of rubber. It was so over cooked and looked like it was trampled on, we struggled cutting through it with a knife. Then the other two entrees we ordered, a crab cake eggs Benny and poached eggs and hash browns were also overcooked and were more like hardboiled eggs. We politely told the server that it is not what we were hoping for and he told us he would get us better eggs..so we all sat there with the rest of our food getting cold waiting for new eggs to come which still took almost 15 minutes for the over easy eggs, and we were still left waiting for the poached eggs, we ended up calling the owner over and she agreed to have the kitchen make the Benny over again because by that time the hollandaise, crab cake, and bread was all cold and mushy waiting for the eggs which was ridiculous that it wasn't all taken away in the first place and brought to us all together made properly. We finally received the one redone crab cake Benny and the other poached eggs for the other entree and just sucked it up and asked for the bill. We were also surprised that we were still charged in full after having such a disappointing experience and leaving dissatisfied, especially since the owner knows we are regular customers. We won't be coming back for brunch, that's for sure, and it's questionable if we would want to go back for lunch or dinner. read more
