The biggest gyros I've seen in a very long time!!
Michelle F.

We were greeted nicely and the guy helped us and answered our questions. The place was very clean and everything well stocked. We each ordered the Greek gyros plate which has double meat. They use fresh ground lamb with their own spice mix to create their own unique flavor profile. Meat is soft, tender and delicious. The onions and tomatoes are nicely sliced on the plate. The tzatziki sauce is creamy and clings nicely to the meat. Order an extra pita and sauce if you order this huge plate. You'll need it (in a good way)! French fries were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We could only eat a few as there was so much meat on our plates! Super generous portions are given here! 1 gyro plate is enough for 2 people easily! I never had a chance to get to the fries. I only got through 1/2 of my plate and there was no room for desert! Great job Kosta's! They told me they have a Kosta's location in Palatine too which is a much closer location.

Chicken Kabobs
Jim S.

Always been a big fan of Kosta's Gyros, so that's why we decided to do Kosta's catering for my daughter's first birthday. Selecting the right food for this event had to be excellent because you only get a first birthday once in your life time so it had to be good! My wife an I sat down and decided we wanted to the chicken kabobs, gyros, oven baked greek potatoes, and mediterranean rice. So a week before the party we placed the order with Kosta's cause as you know with a big catering order you need to give the kitchen ample time to order the ingredients, prep it, and then cook it for the party. We went with 7 pounds of chicken kabobs for a total of 56 skewers and 4 pounds of gyro meat, large tray of potatoes, and large tray of rice. The ordering and pick up went without a hiccup. Except they did let us know that if we paid by credit card that there would be a 3.5% credit card fee. Hold up fam, I'll be right down to the restaurant to pay in that green, dinero, bread, coin, bacon, and dough. You ain't gonna get me for an extra 3.5%. The food was done right at the schedule pick up time and now it was time to party! Now, I'd like to add a tale of caution here. Now you may have noticed that so far I've had nothing but good things to say about Kosta's, so then why am I have giving them a 4 star review? Attached to my review, I provided a picture of the chicken kabobs. No where else on Yelp or on Google for that matter has there been a picture of the chicken kabobs and the only person to blame here is me, myself, and I. What I should have done before the party is gone to Kosta's and sampled the chicken kabobs myself. The reason being is that the amount of chicken that comes on each skewer. I was not the only one at the party that made the comment of why there was so little chicken on each skewer, there were several people who commented. The width of chicken on each skewer comes close to a centimeter thick, not an inch thick, but a centimeter. I had no idea that each kabob didn't come with a hunk of meat and that was MY FAULT. So I'm giving everyone else full warning now that's the way Kosta's does their chicken kabobs is like this. Beyond this everything to the rice, potatoes, and gyro was A+ all around by the restaurant and their staff. Overall, everyone was happy and full at the party, even the birthday girl approved of the food and the day after we received many comments as to how good the food was and "what was that restaurant you ordered the food from?" Maybe it would be a good idea for Kostas to include a few business cards so that I could pass them out? But who am I to tell a business owner of what or what not to do? Being in this area we are lucky to have Kostas Gyros in the neighborhood and I hope to have them succeed for many more years to come. Keep up the great work Kostas!

It was made to order and came out nice and warm (not the salad!) and everything was very tasty! We dined in and the dining area is spacious and well lit. We are regular Pita Inn diners and the food here was a touch better but also a little more expensive, but it was well worth the cost. If I want Mediterranean food and am out this way, Pita Pita is where I will come to.

Their menu is loaded with all the popular items (kabobs, shawarmas, etc), so chose their chicken shawarma bowl. The lady helping ring me up explained how it was made and that sounded great, which was the garlic sauce (sort of like toom) was on the bottom with the rice on top, salad next and then the protein on top. So, this is what I ordered. It was made fresh and came out piping hot. The rice in the dish was bland and the chicken was slightly more flavorful, which means it was basically bland as well. The garlic sauce and the salad were the best two flavors on this dish and I tried to grab some of that in each bite. I wasn't too impressed with the flavors of the chicken shawarma at all, but then again I prefer flavorful and authentic food and can't stand when ethnic restaurants cater to "Americans" by making their food less spicy/authentic. The place was rather busy when I went and the dining room was kept clean. Service was friendly. I'd recommend this place to those who don't have high expectations for spice, rather are looking for a nice experience.

They have always* struggled with CONSISTENCY issues ever since they started (I've had raw chicken multiple times from them, now it's all burnt/dry), but it's more and more apparent recently. The meats are not only overcooked and EXTREMELY DRY, but the burnt exterior is a genuine *carcinogenic* (fact-check me) issue that leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth that is worse than sand IMO. The gyro meat is more grainy and un-chewable lately. The chicken is overcooked and dry as heck. The rice is undercooked and almost hard. The salads are less fresh, and I notice a distinct difference in the olives lately (more bitter and mushy, YUCK- I love good Kalamata olives, but NO thank you). I genuinely write this in a probably naive attempt to warn Kabobs that they are cutting too many corners that will probably, eventually, bite them. I would be very sad if that happened. I used to love Just Kabobs-- I've had great gyro and chicken and salad, etc, so I KNOW FROM THE PAST that they can do better. The main problem now* is that they are SUPER busy and they probably don't care about quality control because the money is rolling in, but I hope they will reverse course and get better quality ASAP. (PS; at their peak they are capable of 5/5 stars.-- I just feel that the quality has significantly* declined lately and it's sad to see, and waste money on. I couldn't stomach the burnt dry chicken kabobs I got last night and it's going to waste in my trashcan ).
