This place is a gem. Fresh hot wraps, kabobs and plates. Did I mention fresh with great flavors. We had a chicken wrap and a mixed shawarma plate. So good. The hummus is fresh and flavorful and delicious. We will be back to try more. BTW the owner is a really nice guy. Definitely worth supporting this business. read more

4 Stars for Shawarma King in Gurnee. This is a pretty convenient location and directly across the street from Six Flags Great America, and also close to the 294 highway. The food I had was pretty tasty, I got to try the chicken and beef shawarma plate - very expensive but very tasty, big portion enough for 2 meals. I also tried the beef kifta kabob wrap with a side of falafel- delicious! They threw in an extra falafel as well, thanks! There is also plenty of seating inside if you want to dine in. My only negatives are they do not give free cups of water, you have to buy a bottle if you want a drink. And they only include one tiny cup of hot sauce with your order. Overall, it was a good experience, if you want Mediterranean and you're in Gurnee it's not a bad choice. read more

We were helping set up the market that morning, which meant we got a sneak peek at the food vendors as they were getting ready. And let's be honest... we're absolutely not the type to turn down an early gyro opportunity. The team at Shawarma King was already in great spirits. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely funny--the kind of witty banter that immediately puts you in a good mood. The young woman working the counter was quick on her feet and kept the interaction light and playful, which totally made me smile. And the food? So good. The gyro was loaded up, fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you're wandering a farmers market. Generous portions, great seasoning, everything hot and delicious--it hit the spot in every way. If you're at the Lake Oswego Farmers Market, this stand is an easy "don't miss." We'll absolutely be back for another round. read more

This review is for carry out. 3.5 rounding up to 4. We were craving Mediterranean food and decided to try a new place by us. Looking at the reviews and pictures we decided on Shawarma King. We ordered online for pick up and arrived there about 15 minutes later as it said it would be ready. It was ready shortly after. We got everything we ordered in the bag with extra utensils. The portions are huge and enough to share! We got the mixed grill plate so that we had the opportunity to try a little of everything. Along with a side of the lamb and chopped salad. We loved that they packed the hummus on the side so that we were able to reheat and enjoy the hot stuff while keeping it cold. The chopped salad was great in flavor and a side portion is huge. Some of the meats were a bit dry along with the rice. But overall decent in flavor. I think next time we'll just get the shawarma and skip the rest. Overall a great experience, and would recommend for anyone craving Mediterranean. read more

Small strip mall restaurant. Very good Shwarma and the Lavraki Fish Meal was outstanding!. We came in the day after there was a break in and the front door was card-boarded up. It's sad that someone broke into several of the restaurants and businesses in this shopping center. The food here is worth the stop in. Cheers read more

My hubby and I were drivin' home from Michigan to Wisconsin and made it a point to stop at the Shawarma King in Gurnee (this was our second time, and y'all, it was just as amazing as the first). We had the chicken shawarma wraps with fries and that garlic sauce... Lord have mercy, it's so good I'd put it on just about anything. The falafel was tasty, and the tahini sauce was the perfect match. The hummus was smooth and flavorful and had their special sauce in the middle and was served with their homemade pita bread! It was that soft, fresh pita--like nothin' I've ever had. You can tell everything's made right there in the kitchen with a whole lotta love for their customers. The gentleman runnin' the place is just the nicest guy--genuine, kind, and proud of his food (as he should be!). We'll definitely be stoppin' by again next time we're passin' through. read more

The food was incredible, we can't wait to make another visit. The portions are amazing, we ordered two dinners for the wife and I and we had leftovers for another two meals each. We ordered our meals for pickup and they were ready when we arrived at the designated time. We have family members that love Mediterranean food and we can't wait to share this restaurant with them. read more

Disgusting. Ordered on Grubhub.... Their pickle plate came without the pictured olives, so false advertising there. Sat down to try the rest of the meal and it was gross. Hummus drowning in a loose green snot-like sauce. Shawarma sandwich was cold and tasted inedibly disgusting. Gave it a few bites but something was definitely way off with it. Luckily Grubhub was able to refund me because the whole order ended up in the trash. So many better shawarma joints around. I regret trying this place and I won't bother with them again. read more

Amazing shawarma spot! The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The meat was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy, and the portions were very generous. We enjoyed our meal here! All the food was delicious and authentic. The combination platter could have fed us both, but we ordered two so we'll have leftovers. The dining area is immaculate. I ordered with Instacart. Everything looked good, Fresh and it had a good flavor but it just had too much flavor. They over did it on the spices but what really put me off is that everything, the meat, the rice, the salad, was too salty. I would order again but I would request less salt for sure. I took off a star for the over seasoning which I could have lived with and one for the over salting which was just too much salt. read more

Really great flavors with wonderful folks behind the counter! Highly recommend! Thanks Shawarma King!

Very delicious and satisfying I would definitely come back to enjoy their gyro again! Thank you

Absolutely delicious middle eastern food! Stopped by for a late lunch after a day at the park. This was my first time trying Shawerma King, and I was really impressed. We ordered the mixed grill and the steak wrap, and both were excellent. The mixed grill was cooked perfectly, with juicy, flavorful meats and generous portions. The steak wrap was just as good--tender, well-seasoned steak wrapped fresh with great toppings and sauce. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food and service. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend. read more

First time trying them out and we are kicking ourselves for waiting. Everything was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The rice was so fluffy, could not stop eating it. Nice people but I've been disappointed with the food the past 2 times. Very little if any tahini on their shawarma wraps. Maybe they do them differently than other places, but they used to be much better. Then this last time, I tried to cut my wrap in half and the whole thing fell apart. I was really looking forward to it. I don't think I'll be back. read more

So my old go-to shawarma place changed hands not long ago and it just wasn't even half as good anymore. Thankfully yelp knows all and I found this spot not far at all from the last one! I really enjoyed my meal here. I got the mixed shawarma plate which came with rice, "salad", and hummus. I also got an order of falafel. To finish I grabbed an imported drink from Lebanon. The pros: The chicken shawarma was excellent, exactly what I want and expect from a good shawarma. Well seasoned with the right thickness and texture in each bite. The rice was a perfect vessel for the shawarma and onions. The falafel was great! Definitely fresh as it was steaming when I bit in. Great flavor and perfectly fried. The drink was about 5 bucks, which is a steep price for 1 soda, but its imported after all and it's got quality ingredients. It was tasty and they have more flavors to try! (I got lime kiwi) The place is clean with complimentary water available. The guy running things, and all the workers really, have a great attitude. The way they interact with customers is top notch service, other businesses should take notes. The cons: I didn't love the beef shawarma, it was just a bit soft and not what I want texture wise. The hummus was fine but lacked seasoning. The "salad" was just slaw and pickles, which honestly works for me, the acid is much needed with the richness of the shawarma and sauce, but I don't think I'd call that a salad. Side of pickles is more accurate. The pita wasn't fresh or warmed, so it wasn't very appetizing. Overall I'll definitely be back here for my shawarma fix and I can't wait to try the kefta and babaganoush! read more

The food, service, and vibes were all great! A great place to grab a delicious quick bite after hitting the six flags park nearby. Food was fresh, tasty and fast. I unfortunately gotta take off a star for the lack of sustainability. We got our food "for here". Yet everything came in Styrofoam and plastic. So wasteful. Excellent! After a long international flight, we were on our way to Milwaukee from O'hare and were ravenous. After getting away from the hustle and bustle of the airport area, we did a quick search on Yelp for some fast casual bites, and Shawarma King came up. I'm so glad we found this spot. I ordered a falafel wrap with fries. We also ordered the hummus side and a piece of baklava to share (again--ravenous). Everything was pitch perfect and over-the-top delicious. The falafel was the perfect texture (not a bit dry!) and the fries were well seasoned. The hummus was also incredibly flavorful. The baklava was, of course, a sweet dream. The service was kind and the prices were reasonable. A resounding five stars! Get to it! read more

I was in the Gurnee area and tried searching for some quick food nearby, that's when I came across this gem!! This place is somewhat hidden inside of a complex with various other establishments. It's a very low key casual, sit down place, with amazing service and staff. Let's talk food!! So I ordered a chicken shawarma meal, a veggie meal, and a side of stuffed grape leaves! Let me start with my absolutely favorite - the stuffed grape leaves!!! There were probably 10-12 grape leaves in a serving - and they were absolutely phenomenal!! The stuffing was so well seasoned and the outside was perfectly tangy and soft. Loved it so so much!! The veggie meal had falafal with rice, hummus, salad, and pita. Hands down, one of the best falafal I've ever had in my life. It's UNREAL, you guys!! You have to try it! The shawarma was again, absolutely delicious! It came with rice, and hummus, and salad and pita! The chicken was so fresh and flavorful and went perfectly with the other dishes! The owner was so sweet and gave so much extra hot sauce and tahini on the side! If I'm in the area, I'm 10000% going back! Everything was 10/10! read more

food was made fresh to order. i had to wait about 15 minutes, gladly. it was piping hot. the chicken was seasoned well and the little sauce was a good complement. i also enjoyed the rice. my only complaint might be the price. this chicken kabob meal and a small soda can came out to be about $21 or $22. i really like the ambiance of the place and the pictures of palestine on the wall. the service was very friendly as well. i will definitely be back! read more

Excellent and I will be back! Located next to my favorite hair salon, Shawarma King was supposed to provide me with a convenient dinner option when my appointment ran long. However, after I tried the filet mignon kebab, I'm going to visit then each and every time I'm in the area. The meat was lovely and tender. The rice had great texture and was full of flavor. Pickled vegies provided balance to the meal. The hummus was tasty. Note: it took 15-20 minutes to get my food after ordering and there was only one person in front of me. I was scheduled to pick up my son from Six Flags and I had some time to kill. So I looked up middle eastern restaurants in the area and found Shawarma King. So I decided to try it and WOW!
