Came here in the evening after a long busy day at work. My sister and brother in law were both so impressed about this place and said I had to try it. We came in and it wasn't that busy about 3 people were dining in. Place is small with the front man and the cook. It was clean and the food aroma smelled good. We ordered a couple things including the baba ganoush which is one of my favorite things to eat. Everything was great but was not impressed with their baba ganoush, it was rather disappointing bland, I couldn't taste any flavor, and it looked very liquid or watered down. It is not the kind of baba ganoush I am used to, maybe it's the type of baba ganoush where they are from but it's a no for me. But everything else was flavorful. Will come back again for sure. read more

I'm not sure if there are too many Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, but I was happy to see Shawarma King was close by with a good looking menu, and the photos and reviews sounded great. At any Middle Eastern restaurant, I usually order the combination plate, because I like to try a little bit of everything. The combo plate is a little pricey at $20.99. The other meat plates are around $15-$16, which I would say is pretty average. The combo plate comes with steak, ground beef kabob, chicken kabob and shawarma. The steak was soft, tender and flavorful. The ground beef is usually my least favorite kabob, but it was very good. The flavor was great. The chicken was my favorite. It was juicy and really flavorful - they definitely aren't conservative with the spices/marinade, so if you like a lot of flavor, chicken is the way to go. The shawarma was actually my least favorite - maybe it was an off hour or maybe it's not their norm - but the pieces were really dry - maybe I got an over cooked batch. I thought it was kinda ironic with their name being Shawarma King, but I would give it another try. Even though hummus came with the order, I ordered a large hummus too. The hummus from my combo tasted different than the large hummus, not sure if it was from a different batch, but the large hummus was evidently better tasting. I also ordered a Jerusalem salad, and I didn't love it. The rice was great, and I enjoyed the pickles and cabbage. Their bread is also fluffy and soft. Overall I was pleased and would try it again. read more

Absolutely delicious food and great hospitality. We enjoyed a combo grill plate as well as chicken and meat shwarma wraps. Everything was so fresh and well made. The meat and chicken melted in your mouth. We also tried the falafel made with fresh herbs, unmatched flavor. The whole family enjoyed. read more

INCREDIBLE!!! We had this place recommended to us by a friend, so we stopped by after a full day at Six Flags, thinking we would have a sample. The food was so delicious we ate far more than we should have but couldn't help ourselves! But beyond the food was the staff. We felt like we were welcomed into the family to share their dinner with them. It sounds strange but we just felt so welcomed and appreciated, and they wanted to be sure we enjoyed what we had. Trust us, we did, the whole experience made a mark and we will definitely be going back!! read more

Delicious flavorful food, large servings, and nicely presented! This was a wonderful addition to our meal repertoire.

For authentic kabobs and shawarma this place is great! The food is fresh, nicely presented, excellent quality. It is a mostly takeout restaurant, not much on ambiance, but the service is top notch. I recommend the chicken kabobs and the mixed grill platter. Stop in for their extra creamy hummus and fluffy pitas! read more

We went there last week when we went to Chicago, it was delicious, flavorful, quick, and the portions were massive.

What a great dinner. My husband had the veggie plate and I had the gyro sandwich. Both were very good. The owner was very friendly and gave us samples of other food. I'm not a hummus fan, but this hummus was wonderful. It is a humble restaurant with delicious food. read more

Sweetest service ever!!! Came back from six flags, was really nauseous but i forced myself to get some food. I was dining in and not able to eat my food do to nausea and the man in the front brought my friends and i free falafel and waters and checked if our food was okay!!!! Which it is, AMAZING shawerma, but I just wasn't feeling well. People like those who work here are what make the word beautiful. The food is made with love read more

I did not enjoy this food at all. Im used to really good chicken shawarma from good Indian restaurants. This was sliced chicken with some sort of sauce that had the consistency of a cream of mushroom soup. It was placed on top of chicken flavored rice. It was a waste of money to be honest. I bought some stuffed grape leaves and they were ok. I've had better. Even the hummus was just ok to me. read more

We went here for a quick dinner while stay at the nearby Grt Wlf Ldg and really enjoyed the food and service at Shawarma King. We ordered the mixed kabob meal and mixed shawarma meal. We had lunch here after a beach trip. It was pretty busy; I'm guessing they get a lot of people coming after Six Flags. Not terribly large inside, but they managed to fit a good number of tables. This is a fast casual place. The menu is pretty simple; a few sandwich and entree options. We ordered a mixed grill entree and a kifta kabob sandwich. The entree was very good. The meats were all tender and flavorful. However, the chicken was a little spicy and didn't taste like traditional Arab seasoning. The hummus and pickled veggies that came with the entree were also very good. In fact, my wife was wowed by the hummus, and she's not easy to wow. The sandwich was tasty as well. The thin pita bread was nice and crisp, and it was in fact pita and not the tortilla bread some places sneakily use. I was glad they put two kifta skewers inside, as one would have seemed sparse. It was pricey considering the quantity of food wasn't huge, but very good food overall. I would just want different seasoning for the chicken and perhaps some creamy garlic sauce. read more

Dropped by here before we went to six flags since it's so close. I got the lunch special and it was pretty good. I liked the flavor of everything except for the salad. It's basically made with like all pickled vegetables so it wasn't really what I was expecting from a salad. Everything else tasted great and I really liked how well the pita bread went with the hummus. The rice also has seasoning so it taste good even once I had finished the meat. read more

Well an update 3 years later. Had mixed shawarma and it was very dry. Pita bread was also very dry. Sadly the spices that were so prevalent last time I ate here are no longer present. Overall not great flavor, dry meat and disappointed. Time to look elsewhere. read more

Great place to stop on the way up the highway. Came from Chicago en route to Wisconsin. There were usual fast food, unhealthy places all off the highway, but we were lucky to find this place. Meat was fresh off the grill (kofta was great) and the owners/operators were very nice. Grabbed some humus and baba ghanouj for the road. Great option to have: satisfying , hit the spot, and easy on the stomach! Will definitely come back . read more

I got the Beef Shawarma Meal. The hummus and garlic sauce were really good. The pita was kind of mealy but taste was ok. The actual flavoring of the food was super good. The reason I gave it two stars is the consistency and texture of the beef. The beef was really dry and REALLY mushy. It made the meal less appetizing. The protein is the star of the show so it matters, but that was the only reason. If they used the same type of meat as Naf Naf it would be much better. read more

Ordered wraps and it was amazing. Will definitely come back. The place was clean as well.

I got the falafel wrap and i loved it they have the best falafel wrap I've had so far, the wrap has garlic sauce already in it (i think) and its perfectly seasoned. Their fries are good too not too salty and a good crispness. The man was very nice at the counter too. Overall a small place but very worth it to come here, i will definitely make this my go to place for shawarma. read more

Its a decent place with decent food. Good part is that it has vegetarian options ( hummus , falafel , etc)

Shawarma King truly delivers outstanding Middle Eastern cuisine, right in the middle of Gurnee. Tonight I enjoyed the chicken kabob dinner. It was nothing less than incredible. The chicken was grilled perfectly, seasoned just right with the appropriate kick, and tender and juicy inside. The sides of rice, salad, and hummus all were delicious in their own right and terrifically complimented the chicken. As a repeat and consistently pleased customer, I'm delighted to give this local establishment a five star review and my earnest recommendation. Great job Shawarma King! read more
