I'm not sure if there are too many Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, but I was happy to see Shawarma King was close by with a good looking menu, and the photos and reviews sounded great. At any Middle Eastern restaurant, I usually order the combination plate, because I like to try a little bit of everything. The combo plate is a little pricey at $20.99. The other meat plates are around $15-$16, which I would say is pretty average. The combo plate comes with steak, ground beef kabob, chicken kabob and shawarma. The steak was soft, tender and flavorful. The ground beef is usually my least favorite kabob, but it was very good. The flavor was great. The chicken was my favorite. It was juicy and really flavorful - they definitely aren't conservative with the spices/marinade, so if you like a lot of flavor, chicken is the way to go. The shawarma was actually my least favorite - maybe it was an off hour or maybe it's not their norm - but the pieces were really dry - maybe I got an over cooked batch. I thought it was kinda ironic with their name being Shawarma King, but I would give it another try. Even though hummus came with the order, I ordered a large hummus too. The hummus from my combo tasted different than the large hummus, not sure if it was from a different batch, but the large hummus was evidently better tasting. I also ordered a Jerusalem salad, and I didn't love it. The rice was great, and I enjoyed the pickles and cabbage. Their bread is also fluffy and soft. We went here for a quick dinner while stay at the nearby Grt Wlf Ldg and really enjoyed the food and service at Shawarma King. We ordered the mixed kabob meal and mixed shawarma meal. I did not enjoy this food at all. Im used to really good chicken shawarma from good Indian restaurants. This was sliced chicken with some sort of sauce that had the consistency of a cream of mushroom soup. It was placed on top of chicken flavored rice. It was a waste of money to be honest. I bought some stuffed grape leaves and they were ok. I've had better. Even the hummus was just ok to me. read more

We had lunch here after a beach trip. It was pretty busy; I'm guessing they get a lot of people coming after Six Flags. Not terribly large inside, but they managed to fit a good number of tables. This is a fast casual place. The menu is pretty simple; a few sandwich and entree options. We ordered a mixed grill entree and a kifta kabob sandwich. The entree was very good. The meats were all tender and flavorful. However, the chicken was a little spicy and didn't taste like traditional Arab seasoning. The hummus and pickled veggies that came with the entree were also very good. In fact, my wife was wowed by the hummus, and she's not easy to wow. The sandwich was tasty as well. The thin pita bread was nice and crisp, and it was in fact pita and not the tortilla bread some places sneakily use. I was glad they put two kifta skewers inside, as one would have seemed sparse. It was pricey considering the quantity of food wasn't huge, but very good food overall. I would just want different seasoning for the chicken and perhaps some creamy garlic sauce. read more

Great place to stop on the way up the highway. Came from Chicago en route to Wisconsin. There were usual fast food, unhealthy places all off the highway, but we were lucky to find this place. Meat was fresh off the grill (kofta was great) and the owners/operators were very nice. Grabbed some humus and baba ghanouj for the road. I got the falafel wrap and i loved it they have the best falafel wrap I've had so far, the wrap has garlic sauce already in it (i think) and its perfectly seasoned. Their fries are good too not too salty and a good crispness. The man was very nice at the counter too. Well an update 3 years later. Had mixed shawarma and it was very dry. Pita bread was also very dry. Sadly the spices that were so prevalent last time I ate here are no longer present. Overall not great flavor, dry meat and disappointed. Time to look elsewhere. read more

The reason I gave it two stars is the consistency and texture of the beef. The beef was really dry and REALLY mushy. It made the meal less appetizing. I ordered a beef kabob and it was good, but I prefer a different middle eastern place. The kabob here lacked some flavor. It came with some pickles that were delicious and a little cabbage salad that I didn't prefer. The hummus was solid, and the yellow rice had a nice flavor but I wish I could have a fattoush salad instead. Lots of wraps on the menu. I should have tried the falafel, which I heard was good.
