A great spot for dinner! It's located on Robson street on the second floor. My family and I came around 6:00pm on a Thursday and luckily was seated right away. Most of the other tables were filled but you can also make a reservation. We ordered the Soy Garlic Chibap with mixed vegetables and the Bossam Original. The chicken was seasoned well and crunchy. The sauce was flavorful. The portion for the Bossam was pretty good. The porky belly went well with the side dishes provided. I did wish lettuce was included too. Our server refilled our sides for us when we ran out. I would say it was enough food for 4 people. I also saw other tables order the fried chicken. I stopped by Kosoo right after arriving in Vancouver for vacation with two of my friends. It was the first place we tried, but honestly our favorite of the whole trip. We were craving some Korean food, so we walked over about a mile from our hotel for a late lunch on a weekday. We were seated pretty quickly and looked over the menu. The fried chicken options and the bossam really stood out to us, but everything looked delicious. We ended up splitting two dishes for the three of us and were pretty full in the end. They give banchan as well which you can refill. Food: - Supreme Fried Chicken - The yangnyeom (sweet chili sauce) fried chicken with creamy sauce, corn, and rice cakes. The fried chicken was really crunchy and the sauce was amazing. It was savory, a little sweet and had a good kick to it. We all love Korean fried chicken and this was such a good sauce that we haven't had elsewhere. - Half spicy jokbal & half original bossam - My friends like jokbal, but I just like bossam, so it was nice that we could get an entree half/half. The meat was all super tender and perfectly cooked. It really made us wonder how they cook it - sous vide and broil/torch? It was caramelized/charred on the outside perfectly too. The only downside is that they charge you extra for wraps to eat with the meat, but not too much. My bf and I tried their galbi tang and half Yangyeom and half honey butter chicken. Galbi tang was great, loved the soup and the meat came right off the bone. Now the chicken... unfortunately we didn't like at all. It was too saucy for us and made us feel heavy. My boyfriend ordered the chibap, and there was so much flavor in the sauce, and the texture was everything you want in fried chicken - Crunchy outside and juicy inside. Good food, excellent service! The food is good, but the menu is lacking in vegetables. I really liked the Honey Butter Chicken while my boyfriend liked the Soy Garlic Chicken. The service is attentive without being overwhelming, which is perfect in my book. Staff was available whenever we needed something, and they immediately brought water when we ran out. The ambiance is almost good for a date because the noise level was a bit high and I had a hard time hearing my date. We were impressed with how fast the food came out after we ordered. The ambiance was enlightening and casual. The food was delicious! Tasty food, chill vibes, and reasonable prices. Came by for an early dinner and there was plenty of seating. By the time we were finishing up, it had gotten busier. We ordered a couple of dishes to try to go with the makgeolli. The makgeolli was smooth and had a refreshing taste. It only had a slight hint of chestnut and had just the right amount of sweetness. I was glad we got to try this drink. Yangnyeom boneless chicken (half order)- this one had a very thick sauce on it. It had some spice but was mainly sweet. We were debating between this one and the chapssal dakgangjeong, but was told the yangnyeom was crispier. The pieces of chicken were quite large and meaty. The batter was crisp. There were also pieces of potato and rice cake. I like how the rice cake was crisp on the outside and still chewy. This dish was great. For $19 and split between the two of us, it was a good portion. Mushroom bulgogi- this had sliced beef, mushrooms, glass noodles, and plenty of onions. I liked their sauce as it wasn't too sweet and was the right balance between salty and sweet. The portion was quite large, although there were quite a lot of onions. The sliced beef was tender. I wish there were more mushrooms though. Also, this came with rice that's in a hot steel bowl. It was perfect for getting crisp rice on the bottom. It was served with the lid on it too, so it kept the rice hot throughout the meal. Banchan- they were all solid. Potatoes were cooked to tender and full of flavour. Beansprouts had a good crunch. Kimchi was had a nice spice. Overall, portions of food were quite generous. Everything was tasty. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and go here! I was visiting Vancouver and found Kosoo via Yelp and it had great reviews so we decided to try it out. It was around 8pm on a Wednesday and fairly busy, but luckily there was an open table available right away. We were hungry from walking around the streets of downtown, and ordered a lot of food to share. KFC Soy Garlic (5/5): Incredibly savory chicken. The batter was so good and crispy. The soy garlic sauce coated every crevice of each chicken and I liked the addition of potatoes and tteok. Bossam (5/5): Must order! I don't think I've ever had bossam with this much flavor before. It reminded me a lot like Chinese char-siu because of the sweetness and caramelization. Typically bossam is boiled, but this one was roasted. Seafood Pancake (4/5): Solid. I think every Korean spot I've gone to has gotten the seafood pancake down to a T. Galbi Tang (4/5): Comforting light soup with tender, fall of the bone meat and slippery rice noodles. Kimchi Fried Rice (4/5): Definitely a filler dish. It was tasty, but with all the other food we got, it didn't stand out. Overall, the food here is pretty fantastic. As for the service, it was lacking. There were waitresses running around, but you had to lock eye contact with them and wave them over if you needed anything. We were looking for a good restaurant relatively early and came across this restaurant on Yelp. One of the reviews said to come early cause by 6 the line goes down the stairs. We ordered Kimchi jjigae, bulgolgi mushroom and soy garlic chicken. They were all good and a little too much for two people. Kosoo Korean Restaurant - Shockingly Bad Service Visited Kosoo Korean Restaurant recently and had a frustrating experience: * Staff kept slamming drinks on the floor and ignored me when I said "Excuse me." * Asked for side dishes around 11:30 PM (restaurant closes at 1 AM) and got no explanation, just "we're closing." * Staff acted annoyed every time I asked for something. They even said, "I'll only be happy if you give a tip." I politely replied, "Tips are for good service," but it felt like we were being taken lightly--even though we're all Korean. This wasn't a small issue--it felt like complete disrespect and poor service. The staff got annoyed about the tip, but I asked them what kind of service they had actually provided for us. From my point of view, I didn't feel like I received any service at all. During the whole time at the restaurant, their attitude was frustrating, so I decided not to leave a tip. What upset me the most is that they seemed to get annoyed because we are Korean, just like them. Located on 2nd floor, nice large dining area, arrived at 2030 on a Saturday night, place completely full, waited 15 mins for a table to open up. Selected the half order of the original Korean boneless fried chicken and the Ox bone soup. The chicken was heavily breaded, meat moist and tender, completely drenched in flavorful sauce, in fact, enough sauce to satisfy a whole village. Ox bone soup came with a very hot bowl of rice in its own wooden serving holder. Very flavorful and comforting when rice added to soup. They give you a thermos filled with hot water, after scooping out the rice, you're left with the crusty rice stuck to the bottom/sides of rice bowl, add the hot water for a delicious burnt crusty rice soup to accompanied your meal. Awesome Korean restaurant up a set of stairs in the middle of Robson Street. Had seen the pics of Korean fried chicken and knew we had to try this place. We were hungry so we ordered a few things of their menu. Their Kim chi fried rice had pieces of bacon, a lot of kimchi and was super delicious. Good portion, enough to bring some deliciousness home. We ordered their creamy padak boneless chicken was super cronchy with fried rice cakes and potatoes and a tower of green onions. Super cravable! And because I love bossam we ordered the original pork belly - for real we needed 2 extra people to eat all of that but everything was excellent all the way down to the banchan - the shredded and cubed radish were our favorites and they gave us more when we asked. The service was great, very attentive and helpful (like knowing we ordered a ton for just the two of us and suggesting just getting the half chicken which was still super large). It is surrounded by retail stores, and it has a bigger dining space. It is located at 1128 Robson Street (across from the MUJI store). Kosoo on Robson has lots of options on their menu. You can choose traditional dishes and modern Korean cuisine. We were craving for the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC), so we ordered the half Supreme and half Mayack on bone-in chicken. It came with corn and potato wedges. The portion was enormous. The KFC was crispy and juicy. It was definitely enough for two people. First meal after arriving in the city! We ordered the Bossam and it was the star of the show. So insanely delicious. Loved the large spread of banchan and sauces to accompany the meat. We also ordered the Gamjatang, which was extremely generous with the meat and extremely comforting as a soup but a bit lackluster in terms of flavor. It was definitely flavored, but pretty one dimensional. Later that night we decided we really wanted to try the fried chicken so we got the soy garlic for take out, but perhaps made a grave mistake as it just didn't survive the car ride well and became rather dry and soggy when we got back home. That's all we ordered and barely could finish it. Soy garlic chicken was so crispy and yet so juicy with flavors that had me second thinking about Bon chon KFC. VERY GENEROUS amount of chicken The spicy rice cakes was not up to my par but the flavors made up for it especially with the combination of the fried Chicken. Again. Generous amount of rice cakes and fish cake with vegetables made its hearty lunch to start the day. Ban Chan assortment wasn't like other Korean spots where they come out with like a dozen variety's, maybe because it's lunch time???? Either way I was happy with what I got. All this for under $40 CAD what a damn deal compared to the California Peninsula restaurants. Will definitely comeback here again next time for dinner and see how it matches up.
