The kimchi Hotpot soup is blah, not authentic at all, the beef and intestines "dirty taste" with things not cleaned at all inside. As much as I want to give Koreana at least 2 stars for solid service, the food just fell so terribly, terribly short of expectations. The Beef Soondubu was far and away the worst I've ever tasted - dry beef cubes, nearly tasteless broth without a hint of spice and no piping hot steam upon arrival...or raw egg for that matter. My Bibim Naeng Myun had some base that completely watered down the chili paste, making it bland and not even worth finishing. The BBQ and Haemul Pajeon were mediocre and at least passable. I wish the grills had much more heat b/c the meat marinade was indeed there, it just lacked the nice charring that's achieved with proper preparation. The seafood pancake was overly chewy, but still took top spot amongst the other items simply b/c the rest was that much worse. Bear in mind, this is with the perspective of a native Californian who's had good (though not the best yet) Korean fare in the Bay Area. The atmosphere was really nice and chic. We were seated right away and without a wait, but to the food! It was very fresh and of good quality. The flavors were bold, sweet, and savory. There was a sampling of greens, condiments, and meats to choose from. My friend ordered, so I'm not sure the name of the entree we had, but it had Korean short ribs, chicken, and beef. The price wasn't bad either for the fact it was split between 4 people. In addition, the food seemed really light and healthy. It wasn't heavy at all. Lastly, my friends and I spent almost 3 hours there, and none of the waiters seemed in a rush to kick us out, and kept the water refills coming. You know that feeling when you miss the familiar tastes of home? Food here definitely hits the spot...although a bit expensive. What we ordered: Scallion seafood pancake- 5/5- This was surprisingly really good!?! It's not your typical corn flour hard as rock and gets cold easily pancake. It has a soft texture somewhere in between regular dough and mochi. Anyhow it was fantastic and had a good ratio of scallions and seafood. Beef Dolsot Bibimbap- 4/5- Your typical sizzling hot bibimbap feat beef. Can't go wrong with this. Bulgogi- 4/5- Too salty! On the bright side, their banchan is fantastic. Plz stay away. I'll give zero star if I have to. Terrible service mediocre foods but very pricey. We were told to wait outside on a raining day. We were told "you guys can't wait here. You guys are blocking the entrance. I know it's raining outside but you guys have umbrella. You NEED to wait outside." Well we have one umbrella for five of us. Servers came to help with grilling but they dump whole plate of meat on our grill like garbage while the grill is not even hot so that they could take empty plates away. With bad service like this we plan to tip less but 18% tip was automatically added to our bill. By reading reviews now I learned they tend to add mandatory tips like this to customers who "don't tip well" - but this is our first visit. I don't fully understand what happened, but I went to Koreana, parked at the Broadway gas (this is a nice service, but getting out of my space was a little hairy), and ordered some tasty food. Drinks on offer were standard Asian beers, Soju cocktails, and sake. I grabbed a Sapporo and we mulled over sushi rolls and BBQ options. Our group of three shared 2 sushi rolls, which were delightful. We opted to get three meat-based BBQ dishes and share them. The process was somewhat confusing, since we weren't clear if we were supposed to cook our own meat. Our chicken got a little over done, but the waitstaff promptly changed our burner. We got something like 9 sides with the meat and experimented with how and what to eat. All in all, it was really yummy and a great atmosphere. Came here with 2 other people on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. We ordered the seafood pancake, the jumulok galbi, wine sam gyup sal and the chapchae. Along with the side dishes offered, we were stuffed and brought some food home as well. Price was fair for the amount of food we got. I love seafood pancake and I order it at every establishment that has it on the menu. Koreana's pancake was pretty good although I would have enjoyed it more if there a bit more seafood. As for the 2 barbecue entrees, both were really good. I couldn't really tell that the pork belly was marinated in wine. Maybe next time I come back, I will try the regular and the wine one to see if I can taste the difference. Probably one of my favorite Korean bbq places in Massachusetts. The side dishes are tasty and countless. You will not get charged for more side dishes which is a plus for me. I am big on korean side dishes. The portions are huge and you will be full. I came with a party of 5 and we had on one side of the table the bbq, and the other side was the hot pot dumpling. The seafood pancakes are out of this world. Fancy décor and amazing service. They are fully staffed, friendly, and ready to tend to our hungry selves. Service is quick and competent and they won't rush you. Your best bet for parking is not to drive. Your second best bet for parking is not to drive. Your third best bet is to troll around--or, pay the guys across the street at the gas station and they will let you park there. Kimchee jigae is served in a metal bowl suspended over a Sterno can. They light the can at the table. I usually extinguish it since I tend not to like to eat out of a boiling pot. It's some of the best kimchee jigae to be had. If you ask for it without meat they will oblige. They may point out that the broth is fish. The sushi here isn't half bad. In fact, it's pretty good (but not great). First time I have ever had a Korean pancake. They are delicious and I am now hooked. It was called the seafood pancake and at first when my friends were ordering I got nervous thinking of traditional home made pancakes and how I wouldn't like that. Little did I know it was going to be delicious! Yum yum yum I am now hooked! The kimchi was delicious too- before you run away, kimchi is not my favorite thing and so you know- you do not have to eat it. We had the beef bulgogi and the pork belly. Both are delicious. If I could survive off of the bulgogi I would. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked and if I could come back and eat it again I would! The sauce that came with it was a blended bean dip with jalapeños on the side. I love spicy and this was just an added touch of delicious to it. I love Korean food and I'm happy to say that I experienced my first Korean BBQ here at Korean. I live in Maine and we come to down to Boston quite often and decided to check this place out. Firstly, I noticed that the interior of the restaurant was super simple and super clean. My first impression was that it was very professional. Our waitress was super nice and checked in on us often to help us adjust the flame for our BBQ since we had no idea what we were doing. We ordered 3 different type of meats, some sushi rolls (spicy tuna, and spicy salmon), and we ordered deubboki (spicy rice cake).The staff comes out with loads of Korean side dishes and we were amazed at how many they were. There were kimchi, zucchinis, and some other dishes that I'm not too sure of but they were all great. We ate the spicy rice cake first and it was the best. I thought the spicy rice cake was really good compared to other ones I had at other restaurants. The sushi was alright not the best but it was still good. Lastly, the Korean BBQ itself, it was so good. The meat we ordered was so tender and it went well with the rice and all of the side dishes. This restaurant is great and the atmosphere, the vibe, and the staff were daebak! ;) (awesome). If you want an authentic Korean restaurant, check out Koreana. Wow, everything I ate here was delicious. The seafood pancake was probably the best I've ever had. Just the right balance of crispness on the outside and softness on the inside. Their toppoki (sp?), was very tasty, and very filling. The sauce was very balanced and complimented the BBQ quite well. Most importantly: The BBQ. The bulgogi and jumolluk (sp?)--two types of BBQ beef--were amazing. They use quality beef; in fact I'm pretty sure everything we ordered was all prime grade beef. The service was excellent. There was always at least one waitress walking around to check on everyone. My glass of water never reached halfway before someone was already refilling it. They also handled the BBQing for us for the most part, which was awesome since I prefer it that way, however they leave the choice up to you obviously. Finally, oh my God, the sides! So. Many. Sides. There were so many sides I honestly can't even list them all. Pretty impressive. I hear this is the way it's done in South Korea, so it's indicative that this place is the real deal when it comes to eating Korean. They topped it off with Cinnamon Tea when we were done, which was surprisingly tasty. It's a tad bit pricey, but considering you're getting a ton of prime meat, a boatload of tasty sides, and excellent service, the price is, for the most part, justified. I'm pretty sure the maitre'd forgot my party because I saw other names crossed off after me that were party of 2, but I was assertive because I wanted my meat!!! Anywho, we got the stir fried squid, then for the bbq we got the pork bulgolgi, deoungshim (rib eye), and beef tongue. All served up raw on an oval plate! This my favorite Korean BBQ in this side of town. (It's hard to find a good Korean BBQ place in this city!) For starters, I love their scallion pancakes with sweet and savory sauce. For BBQ, you can use the grill with a minimum order of 2 servings - it comes with a number of nice side dishes, my favorite ones are kimchi and sweet potatoes. I have tried different meat cuts and I think everything is pretty decent. For dessert, they serve cold cinnamon tea. Oy. I come from a land of plentiful cheap Korean BBQ restaurants, so price-wise, I already knew Koreana would not be fitting that bill. (Har har, no pun intended). The scallion pancake was super-greasy and fried, quite unlike other Korean pancakes I've had which are soft and fluffy. Maybe I've been spoiled by the plethora of authentic Korean eateries in my hometown, but I've noticed that at Boston Korean restaurants, it is NOT the custom to serve their little small plates at the beginning of the meal. They won't do it at all, it seems, if they don't have to. At Koreana, you wouldn't get all these delicious nibblies unless you ordered BBQ. Which is kind of sad because I love Korean-made yellow bean sprouts. Mmm....*crunch, crunch, crunch* Anyway, the Galbi was awesome. Perfectly marinated. The Pork Bulgogi was okay sauce-wise, but strangely cut. It came out all shredded and didn't feel very fresh. There was a very nice lady who kept coming by and cooking our BBQ for us from the moment the meat arrived. I don't know why--the whole point (and fun) of Korean BBQ is the DIY aspect of it. Great food- Minimum two barbeque entrees before they let you use the grill. Their 'bacon' pork belly in red wine is really good. Also non-barbecue wise, they have a Raw Fish on Rice thing that gives you a load of sashimi-grade raw fish, flying fish roe, crabstick on rice, just $18 too. A bit bland but if you're in a RAWR I WANT RAW FISH mood, but the whole paying 8 dollars for two piece of fish is too much, then get that. Uhm the first 5 times I went there, the service was pretty good. Then I just went back this time and the waitress chased after us asking for more tip. ....Yeeeaaaah. I use to work at a sushi restaurant- and Hell Hath No Fury kind of thing/god help you if you even think about acting like that to a customer... I have to preface that I have been to 1)all you can eat Korean BBQ in California and 2)the all you can eat Korean bbq places are $20-$25 per person. Thus, it's really hard for me not to think of those factors when eating at Korean BBQ places here. Please, someone figure out how to make it a) all you can eat and b)at a reasonable price. That being said, yes, the food is worth trying and it's worth to come here if you never have had Korean bbq and cannot go to the west coast(yes, I'm a little bias, I'll admit it). Another plus is that the little sides(pickled radishes, lettuce, etc) are all you can eat and go well with the meat. If you live near H-mart, I advise just going to H-mart, pick up some meat that has already been marinated in Korean BBQ sauce and then grilling it at home - save you some money. At Korean BBQ places, you are practically making it yourself on the tabletop. The waitress we had seemed overwhelmed with us requesting multiple refills of sides. Weird too was that they didn't know what a French martini was(someone in our group ordered it). First we had to list out to the waitress what was in the French martini and after a few minutes, the waitress came back and someone had to go with the waitress to point out the liquor bottles were. So, yes food is yummy and a little pricey, but it was also expected considering there are not that many Korean BBQ places. Parking is very difficult in that area! Tip: We heard that there is parking at the gas station across the street after 6pm but you should definitely let someone at Koreana know to double check(there is a sign on the hostess stand stating the same). read more

OK, so I'm not really sure how to rate this place. There isn't too much that the kitchen does to the main ingredients besides making sure they're fresh. What I would add though is that the sauces are great. I definitely overloaded on the "spicy" hot sauce with sesame. Overall, the food was good - the desserts (mochi and ice cream cake) were standard Trader Joe's. Service was good as well. They managed to seat the eight of us in a short amount of time. Koreana never disappoints - consistently delicious. This is hands down the best Korean BBQ in the greater Boston area. We usually get the gyozas, kalbi and pork belly when we come. I really like their gyozas: the dumpling wrapper has a nice crunch and taste similar to a Chinese fried pork dumpling that you can get at dim sum called "ham sui gok" which I love. The kalbi is so deliciously marinated - just the right amount of sweetness. The pork belly can sometimes come out dry, so just watch the grill. The waiters do their best to come back and flip the meats, but you can do it yourself if you think it is cooked to your liking (don't let it overcook!!). And the endless ban chan... SO MUCH YUM! I think I could get full off of just that, but then I wouldn't be able to eat anything else. Don't be afraid to ask for more when you run out of one. The only downside is the price. The marinade they use at Koreana is one of the best and I found that meat surprisingly did not feel too greasy. The dipping sauce was awesome too! For entrees had beef kalbi and spicy squid with pickle vegetable sides. These were pretty good but can't say it's the best we've had as we've had just as good if not better in New York's K Town (around the base of the Empire State Building). Ate here when staying with my son/daughter-in-law, this is one of their favorites. Nice space with comfortable seating, BBQ pits built into tables, a small bar area. Place has both Japanese and Korean food. Some beer on tap, more in bottles. We tried two Korean beers, OB lager and Hite. Won't bother with these ever again, seem like a Korean version of Budweiser. We are non-meat eaters and all ordered the same thing: Vegetable Tofu Dolsot Bibimbop. This was fun and tasty. It came with a bunch of little 'side' dishes like fish cake, tofu in spicy sauce, green beans, steamed broccoli. And with various sauces, all of which were good. And an egg on top. The hot bowl continues cooking the rice and egg from the bottom up, so by the time you dig down to the rice it is crispy/brown and tasty/fun. Service was good and friendly. Food is okay. But servers really have an attitude issue. They are very unfriendly, rude on the phone and ruse when serving.

To be honest, I actually liked eating at this place, mainly because I thought the food from the barbecue was really tasty, not terrible. It was definitely not the best Korean restaurant I have been to and it's probably not going to be good as Los Angeles, New York City or Toronto's Korean restaurants, but it was probably one of the best Korean restaurants I have eaten in Cambridge and also in the somewhat decent state of Massachusetts. We started by getting the Ddok Bok Gi, which are these rice cakes stir fried in a spiced up sauce. I thought the rice cakes were fairly tasty, I really liked the soft chewiness, but I also thought the staff unnecessarily put in a bunch of peppers. The peppers were good though, and were fairly freshly cooked. As for the Korean barbecue dishes, we got Jumullok Galbi, which is this boneless prime rib beef, marinated in soy sauce and sesame oil. The other dish we got is the Sam Gyup Sal, which is this pork belly dish with sesame oil. The pork belly was really tasty, and it tasted really well with the sauces provided and the ice cold lettuce. It had a nice and hot juiciness that makes meat so enjoyable to eat. As for the beef, it was also tasty and was really good. No, it was not so good that it almost made me cry, but it was so good that it brought a great feeling similar to earning the love from someone you care about. I really liked the tasty tenderness of the beef, and mixing it with a little rice just made the meal even enjoyable. As for banchan (side dishes), they provide a lot and a fairly good selection. I really liked the pickled vegetables that they offer. Eating all these dishes should be enough to fill up the stomachs of two really hungry men or three ladies out after a night in the city. The service could use some improvement, especially in getting the servers to be a little more attentive. The location is not great, but still decent since this place is in Cambridge. It's not really accessible by public transport, but parking should not be a significant problem if you are using a car or a bicycle. Overall, this is a pretty good choice for tasty Korean barbecue in Cambridge. They can get the job done well, but not really well. This may not be one of my primary choices for Korean food, but probably my primary choice if I am in Cambridge. read more
