I had to see for myself what all the food styling and quality was about in a nondescript strip mall in Orange. Been finding out about hidden gems from other yelpers and neighbors! The latest being this modern and tastefully decorated Persian restaurant specializing in koobideh. We came around 2pm on a Sunday and only 2 other tables were filled. The hefty menu has pictures next to their names to help with ordering. We had the molook for sharing and the Greek salad, plus a $35 cab. The meat (ground beef and chicken thighs) was tender and flavorful, with the accompaniments tastefully styled around the main event. My only feedback is that the servers only checked up on us once and we had to flag them down a couple times. I understand they didn't want to interrupt our convos. I ordered off of uber eats for pickup. Should have been easy but when I got there the owner came out to tell me he paused orders and did not have it. A bit surprised because I never had that happen my response was well I paid for it. Stated that it was not his problem and that I should have called the restaurant to make sure they were taking orders before placing it. I said that is not how it works if I had called them I would have just placed it over the phone. He said go deal with Uber Eats and that there was nothing he could do. I was still a bit confused because didn't understand why they wouldn't at least just take my order in restaurant and make it. As I was trying to understand why he just didn't seem to give a damn I said you know this could have gone very differently if you approached me with what you could do for me since instead of just telling me that it was not his problem and provide no resolution. He said well I thought you were just a driver. Now I admit I was not dressed to eat out because I was expecting to just run in pick up the food and leave. Regardless I was surprised that he was saying if he knew I was a customer he would have treated me better. I asked him so so you can't make the order and he said no he had no food even though there were open for two more hours. I asked so anybody who comes to your restaurant now can't eat and he said that was correct. As I walked away he just started yelling at me "I'm sorry do you feel better now?" Crazy experience. Just paid $43 for my chicken koobideh dinner and a glass of wine plus a tip. The glass of wine is $10.89 for a cab, Pinot, or Chardonnay. Lazy pricing strategy. The restaurant at 800 pm on a Thursday was empty. Thinking about what my meal for $43 at the Shamshiri Grill would look like for the same price. The service was fine. The koobideh in proportion to Shamshiri is 1/2 the size of a regular order. The rice was plentiful. The accompaniments were respectful. So my one star is the feeling of shock after walking out the restaurant after paying $43 for the experience. Out of my 100 plus reviews I predict if a restaurant will close or thrive. I'm not sure how Orange has gotten so many good new restaurants, but Koonikland adds to Oranges itinerary of high quality establishments. The quality and taste of the food here is wonderful, and they have a killer lunch special deal. The ingredients used are high quality, the meats are ridiculously well seasoned and juicy, and all the sides you can get are really well made. Parking is super easy, there are plenty of spots on the strip mall it's at, and the atmosphere of this place is nice. Its probably just me but the decorations lean a little trendy and flashy which I personally am not a fan of, but I can understand if some others might enjoy that type of atmosphere. When we came it was during lunch and the location wasn't busy at all, and I hope they get more traffic because this place is delicious. In terms of middle eastern cuisine, I feel like there aren't a lot of spectacular restaurants that specialize in this cuisine, at least not ones that I've been too. This place is one of the best I personally have been to in the OC in both quality and presentation of dishes, and I would love for more middle eastern restaurants to open up around the area like this! Koobikland was a great find when I was looking for a new Middle Eastern restaurant. It is located in a non-descript strip mall. The interior is very attractive, I guess I will coin the term "Persian Chic" to describe it. The staff was attentive and welcoming. The big attraction is the food. Since finding Koobikland on Yelp a few months back, it has become a (nearly) weekly visit for me and my family. I can safely say that before running into Koobikland, Persian/Iranian food was not usually high on my list of cuisines I needed regularly, but here we are. So what exactly makes Koobikland special? Let's first start with the Kebabs. These are by far the tastiest, juiciest Kebabs I've ever had. I generally make it a rule of thumb to avoid chicken at most restaurants I go to, mainly because it's usually dry, flavorless and an afterthought. NOT SO AT KOOBIKLAND. I only order chicken here because it is SO JUICY. You cannot go wrong with the Queen of Persia. It comes with a skewer of Boneless Chicken (it's thigh meat and well seasoned, so it's juicy and wonderfully tasty) and a Chicken Koobideh skewer, which is basically a well seasoned stick of ground chicken (almost sausage like in texture). You can upgrade the rice to a Polo Lati which adds grilled tomatoes, butter and Sumac to the rice - it is absolutely worth the upgrade! You can also choose to do half salad, half rice, because - HEALTH :) The salad dressing is bright pink and you don't know what to think at first, but it is a solid dressing, not too sweet or heavy (I think it's vinaigrette of some sort) and is a visually lovely contrast to the rest of your amazing board (yes, I said board - your food comes on a board). It's not to say that the beef or lamb are not good - they are and I've had them both, but the chicken is the true standout here. Everyone I've introduced to Koobikland agrees. Every appetizer we've tried here has been great - you're a fan of baba ganoush? Imagine a BETTER version of baba ganoush! You like falafel? Imagine a BETTER version of falafel! If you're wondering, do I need the Dragon Kabob before the massive dinner I'm about to have? The answer is yes because it's delicious and you'll find room, or better yet, bring some friends and have them thank you for your impeccable taste in food later! And last but not least, dessert: my goodness, save room for the baklava. You're going to want more than one and you're not going to want to share. Again, baklava is great, but have you had BETTER baklava? It's flakey, it's pistachio-y and the syrup is juuuuuust right - not dripping, but perfectly absorbed. I don't usually go hard for dessert, but no visit to Koobikland is complete without the baklava. Oh, and the Turkish Coffee - it's perfection and again, a BETTER version of Turkish Coffee than any I've had elsewhere. They make it fresh and they know what they're doing. No notes - absolute best way to cap off any meal here. The food at this place is truly one of a kind, but since becoming regulars, we've gotten to know the various servers and the owner who clearly take pride in their food and restaurant. The restaurant itself is always impeccably clean and bright. On most evenings, they have a musician playing live music that adds a nice atmosphere - a mix of covers of popular pop songs and traditional Persian music (please make sure to tip the musician). Depending on how many tables they have, they might be a bit faster or slower, but honestly, I don't care because the food is worth it - it's clearly made fresh and good food takes time. I'm really choosy about restaurants I review and Koobikland made the cut. They deserve each and every star! read more

Had a great experience the first time we came here. Second time felt like a completely different place. I have no idea why service went from 5 to zero stars, but I am never spending another dime here again. Food was still okay, but we had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to ask for water, or utensils, or to even receive the rest of our order, which took an hour after we received the first dish. Before you walk into the restaurant, there's a mini red carpet, which is super cute! We opted for: - Dragon roll ($18.99): SO GOOD! This was definitely my favorite because each bite was such perfection with how tender snd juicy the beef was and how well the melted cheese complimented the meat. I loved the pickles and red onions it came with as well because it provided a nice acidity. - Traditional tray ($54 with the addition of the polo lati): This comes with chicken, Egyptian, and beef & my favorite of the 3 was the Egyptian, but all of them were good. The sides that came with it were such a nice touch. Definitely can feed more than 2 people! - Melon juice ($10): Super refreshing drink! The koobideh seemed processed and and kinda rubbery. I've had better at other Persian restaurants. I ordered the watermelon juice and it was quite expensive for a small glass.
