This place falls short of expectations! A friend and I stopped by and he ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee and I ordered a Shaggy Dog Roll. We paid for it and found a place to sit down while we waited for our order. We received our coffee first and were confused if we had ordered the correct one. Vietnamese coffee is typically served with a layer of condense milk at the bottom but ours appeared thoroughly mixed and looked nothing like it. We've ordered it many times before and know what it's suppose to look like. Even pictures of it on Google reviews looked correct. You're not suppose to mix it. There was another person sitting next to our table who had the same drink and theirs came out right so I'm not entirely sure what the deal or confusion was. While I patiently waited for my Shaggy Dog Roll, a staff member informed me that their "cook/chef" had just left and that a new one was coming in and asked if I could wait another 10 minutes. I said sure, no problem. So finally, out comes the roll, and I was shocked at how small it was for something that costs $6. I also had no idea why they gave it to me in a to-go box as it was obvious I was sitting there with a friend having drinks and chatting. They could've at least asked, if this was for here or to-go, instead they just assumed. On top of that, they didn't even provide me with any utensils either. Did they expect me to eat it with my hands? The lack of consideration was unacceptable. And let me tell you how bad the roll was. It didn't even come with any spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce that was advertised on the menu board. I had to go up and ask for it. The staff gave me a small cup containing an exceptionally meager amount of sauce. This behavior demonstrated a lack of generosity and frugality. Frustrated by the previous experiences, I decided to taste the roll. To my dismay, the shrimp tempura was a soggy pile of mush. The batter wasn't even crispy. The texture of it resembled rice krispies cereal that has been soaked in milk. I felt that whoever the individual responsible for this had improvised by reheating whatever was available in the microwave and serving it without regard for quality. This lack of attention to detail is evident in the subpar taste and presentation of the dish. The service was equally disappointing. The staff displayed a profound lack of courtesy, which further tarnished our overall experience. The absence of proper manners and the indifference to the customer's needs are unacceptable standards of customer service. Given the positive reviews I had anticipated, I was deeply let down by my recent experience. The subpar quality of the food and drink, coupled with the poor service and lack of professionalism, is a clear indication of the establishment's shortcomings. I strongly recommend that the management address these issues and improve the staff's training and customer service skills. Without a significant improvement, I cannot fathom how this establishment has garnered so many positive reviews. If I had the option to rate it with zero or negative stars, I would certainly do so. read more

We looked everywhere for bagel and lox. We finally found this little gem located in the heart of Cinco Ranch. Very cool place with cool Hawwiian decor. Their Kona Coffee was bold, steong and tasty. Definitely woke us up! We ordered the nova lox.. One with egg and one without. Was very tasty! Not the best bagel and lox we have tried but it was good. 4 stars for coffee and ambience of this cafe. A little taste of home in Katy, TX. I was excited to try this place out because they served the two things I missed from Hawaii, spam musubi and Kona coffee. When we walked in, we were greeted by a nice and helpful barista (I didn't catch her name) who explained many of the food and drink menu items to us. We all settled on ordering their musubis and flavored lattes. The musubis we ordered were their spam and egg musubis. When I ate my share of musubis in Hawaii, and even when I made them at home, they didn't contain egg. The egg layer in this musubi didn't add anything as far as flavor or texture. So, I don't think it was necessary. Their spam was marinated well in sugar and soy sauce, though. But, they weren't pan fried for that extra caramelization. The sauce was a little sweeter than I'd like, and the rice was a little softer than usual. Bur, the nori was pretty good. Their lattes were quite smooth and strong. They roast their own coffee beans, so you know it's going to be good. I found out from the barista that the owner actually owns a Kona Coffee Bean farm. We added caramel and vanilla syrups to our lattes, and they were tasty and not too sweet. I also got a good buzz from their espresso. I would love to come back and try their other drinks. The barista mentioned two iced coffee drinks with ice cream and orange flavoring, respectively. These would be perfect in the summer months. I do love the decor here. They have plants that do remind me of palm trees, a surfboard on one of the walls, and an Aloha neon lit sign. They even have benches and chairs with Hawaiian T-shirt like patterns. It can't feel more like Hawaii that that. Lol. I do have to say that their items were kind of pricey. Their spam and egg musubis were close to $3 each. They were small and barely a snack. Their lattes were $5 each (it was $0.50 extra for the flavored syrup). So, I wouldn't say you could come here too often, unless you're here just for their drip coffee. But, come and check them out anyway, especially if you're like me and looking for a bit of the islands in Texas. read more

Had to wait an hour for my car to get inspected and spotted this coffee shop right next door, so I decided to kill some time and go in. It's a very cool space that you can grab a cup of coffee or snack while studying/ catching up with friends. $8.34 for a 16oz iced caramel macchiato with almond milk and extra caramel. Why?? 1st off this 16oz look like a 8oz, so I'm questioning if this is really a 16oz. I will measure myself and see. 2nd why do you charge $1 extra for alternative milk. The carton of almond milk is approx. $3 and since this is a business I'm sure it's less if you buy bulk. It is absolutely ridiculous to charge people extra for not opting for cows milk. I'm so sick of you coffee shops that take total advantage of consumers who want something other than cow. Extra caramel was $.75 cents more, I feel is too much also but the $1 extra makes me so irritated. I won't return, I can make my own caramel macchiato with almond milk for much less. The cashier was nice so this review is solely about the cost of my coffee. The taste of the drink I give 7/10. All of this was $14. Definitely a more expensive coffee spot. The drinks were made VERY quickly. The iced matcha latte (12oz) was sweet so it is probably made with whole milk unless you indicate otherwise. Ordered a hot soy latte because I didn't want to pay $4 for an Americano. The spam misubi was good. Rice was on the soggier side and not much nori. The spam was also soft instead of crispy. Aesthetically inside was very big and a nice place to catch up with friends or study/ do work. The staff were very friendly and brought our drinks to us. I wouldn't come back again just because it was more than a 30 minute drive. It is definitely worth trying at least once to see if it hits the spot for you. Nice coffeeshop in the Katy area. Pretty good coffee and great study spaces. I got an iced latte that was pretty standard. The baristas are friendly and the ambiance is wonderful. Lots of tables and good WiFi to study or chat with friends. For the location, this is definitely one of the better coffee shops in the Katy area. However, it is really pricey! $4.50 for a latte/flat white/cappuccino! Plus $0.75 for alt milk (alt milk should be free imo) !! Super expensive for the quantity you get. I felt like my latte was more milky and wasn't that strong (also was pretty small). I will probably come back because there aren't as many decent coffee shops in the Katy area, but there are definitely better coffee shops in the Houston area if you're willing to drive out a bit. read more

Check your receipts. The girl at drive thru overcharged me then when I asked for my receipt claimed it wasn't working. I knew my regular order so waited to check the receipt to confirm she had indeed overcharged me. And when refunding me had the gall to give me attitude. Kona Roastery started out great - the ambience the food the drinks the service - but once summer starts and they hire high schoolers for the season, that all quickly went downhill. If you order a drink they'll give you a hot drink in 100 degree weather without ever confirming hot or iced. Maybe double check before you assume people want hot drinks in 100 degree summer. Or they'll give you melting gelato without a bag or napkins bc who wouldn't anyone want dirty sticky sugary cars this summer to attract all the bugs right. And handle the spoons with their grubby fingers without care or hygiene. A little common sense would go a long way. I doubt I'll be back much during the summer high school season and if I do come back, will be checking all my receipts. read more

Great locally roasted coffee! One benefit of locally roasted coffee is that the coffee is fresh and doesn't contain mycotoxins unlike coffee that is shipped and stored. Great for those on the bulletproof diet. Kona's coffee isn't just healthier for you, they're delicious! The atmosphere is great with ample space and good vibes for studying or hanging out with friends. The pastries look great and my wife loved the breakfast sandwich. I'm absolutely in love with this cute little coffee shop, which also unexpectedly has some seriously tasty ice cream! I just went to Hawaii in October and was so excited to find a little piece of Hawaii back here in Houston! I came here with a friend when working from home and basically stuck around for the whole day. There's free WiFi, plenty of outlets, and just the right noise level of light chatter and soothing Hawaiian tunes, and the staff were nice enough to give me a couple cups of water for free. Foodwise: - Gelato: I got a smaller cup with scoops of Stratciatella and Kona Coffee. Even sharing with a friend, the smaller size was almost too big for us. They're so generous with their scoops! The Stratciatella is very smooth and milky with some nice, crisp dark chocolate shards for contrast. The Kona coffee is hands down the best coffee ice cream I've had! The coffee flavor is super strong, fragrant, and distinct, but the winning touch is the sugary streaks of real coffee in this. Sooo amazing! I also tried the Lava Road ice cream, which is a deep, dense chocolate ice cream. Another review said this is like brownie batter almost, and they are right - Avocado and egg breakfast sandwich on croissant: Nice, fresh avocado and hard boiled egg on a fluffy croissant, beautifully planted - Spam and tofu musubis: flavorful and yummy! If you're looking for good coffee with a good atmosphere, Kona is definitely the place. My favorite drink here is probably the royal milk tea. If you're not a coffee drinker, it's perfect. It's delicious and has a unique taste not like any other tea house with milk tea. I've also tried a vanilla flat white and it was great, very creamy and the cute design makes it look even better. I also enjoy their breakfast sandwiches, they can be a little pricey though. I always look forward to coming here and getting a new drink! read more

I am not sure if the place is a franchise, but the coffee comes straight from their own coffee plantation in Kona, Hawaii. I enjoyed a cup of the regular coffee, Kona Cloud. It was good, but I am pretty sure the coffee was not 100% Kona. A large Kona Cloud was close to $4, which is still a bit high for coffee, but low for 100% Kona. KH offers 100% Kona grounds for sale and has a roasting room on the side with a window...maybe you can catch them at work! My wife had a muffin and enjoyed it. Get your spam musubi (extra-large sushi) or sandwiches. Prices are normal on the food. read more

The coffee: I ordered the cortado, which is off menu. The espresso really packs a punch. It has very bold flavors, tasting sharp on the tongue with a good amount of bitterness. It's hard to describe the flavors though. It's a bit savory. I wouldn't recommend this drink to anyone who doesn't already really like very dark roasts and minimal extra stuff. It definitely shakes you up, but it's not something I would want to casually sip on regularly. The shop: It's very spacious. I like the cute Hawaiian theme. They have nice plants, good wall art, and a big neon sign that I'm sure people love to take pictures of. There are plenty of windows to let in done natural light. They're open early and close relatively late which is awesome, and they offer free wifi. My only complaint is that there aren't that many outlets, which is minor but means it isn't that great to do work if it's busy. The staff: Very friendly. They greet customers, explain different menu items, and engage in small talk well. They asked me how I like my drink, and offered to re-make it if I had any issues with it. Overall: This is one of the only places offering Hawaiin coffee beans, and it's nice that the experience is enjoyable. If you don't know what to expect as I didn't, the espresso drinks are very strong in flavors that might not agree with everyone. I think the atmosphere and customer service make it a worthwhile visit though. They also offer smoothies and some food items including musubi, sandwiches, and ice cream. read more

Came in for the first time today and ordered a hot choco and a signature hand drip. Kona black sands was recommended by the barista and it was good. It was dark and smooth. The hot choco was ok but my 10 year old said it wasn't very sweet. It might be suited for older pallets. I had a nova lox bagel that was excellent. Over all the atmosphere is hip and there is a lot of seating. This makes it louder than some of the other coffee shops around. Everyone was pleasant and helpful.
