I have ordered food from KoKyu and it great and healthy. The bulgogi bowl is my favorite.

I ate lunch at KoKyu today so I'm basing my review on actually experiencing the food and service (unlike a recent 1 star review). The food and service were excellent. It was a lovely day to enjoy their patio and the server was kind enough to bring my friend's dog a bowl of water. KoKyu was busy but our food arrived fairly quickly. We had the Furikake Steak Fries as an appetizer -- the fries were very well seasoned and the accompanying sauce was a treat. I had the pork belly bowl and my friend had the fish tacos and I highly recommend both. The portions were generous (enough leftovers for dinner tonight). I'm looking forward to returning and trying some of the other options on their menu. read more

We really adore the food from KoKyu & KoKyu Na'Mean and really REALLY wish they would finally take their 2 UberEats menus from their (previously 2 different restaurants, now all located in 1 location). It's really frustrating when half of the people in our home love their vegetarian Ko Faux Bahn sandwiches, my husband loves their tacos with soy nuggets, their Ma Dang menu is absolutely freaking fantastic (especially their Ko Jangles fries and honey gochujang sandwich). It makes it impossible to order everything we want and we have just been hoping like crazy they will fuse their 2 accounts so we could purchase everything we want. The Uber eats options have gotten more and more expensive which is understandable with current circumstances right now in our country and small businesses needing to make up for it but we can't afford to do two separate orders because everything isn't on the same menu. I will 100% change my review to 5 stars as soon as online delivery ordering is easier! P.S. KoKyu- if you ever decide to try out doing your gochujang sandwich, general tsao's bowl or taco's with cauliflower we would be all over that!!!! Thank you for having great vegetarian options!!!! I've been a big fan of Na'Mean, so I was excited to try Kokyu. Wow. We are so impressed. Came for an early dinner around 5:30 with our toddler and preschooler, before it got busier. The food was outstanding, as expected. But on top of that, the staff. So impressed. They not only made us feel welcome, but they didn't shame us for having small kids with us. Seeing that I ordered one of the vegetarian dishes, the owner/manager (not sure), she brought me a soy nugget to try for next time. Then, seeing that my 2 year old dropped that soy nugget on the ground before I took a bite, brought me a second one. Our kids split the veggie pickled rice bowl--plenty of food for both of them. This is the *dankest* food in Durham (maybe the Triangle). EVERYthing from KoKyu is beyond delicious, and their menu changes just enough to keep things interesting (without losing faves). They have an incredible beer selection (including to-go options) that also changes pretty often. Given the recent coronavirus outbreak, my husband and I want to try different areas that deliver in the area during our weekdays and Kokyu had high reviews. Being here once before, my experience wasn't amazing but thought I'd try again and give it a shot. Unfortunately I was not impressed at all. We ordered the bulgogi bowl and the chicken karaage bowl and honestly it was just a bad mix of mushy rice with some meat on top and sauce carelessly thrown on top for both of them. I couldn't even eat more than a few bites cause the rice was tasteless and the chicken just tasted fried without flavor. Won't be ordering from here again especially because the prices are exorbitant for this kind of food. read more

Soooo....as much ad I used to love the Kokyu food truck for late night bites in DTD, there is something about the brick and mortar that isnt hitting the spot. The last two times I went I've been disappointed. First of all, my fave short rib slider was taken off of the menu. Wth!! That's like taking their duck fat tots off ..it was a staple ...so I thought! :( anyways, last time I ordered a salad with chicken and the tots and somehow my bill came up to $24! Let me start by proclaiming my undying affection for Na'Mean. My wife and I stay amazed with the innovative combinations of flavors and ingredients. There is a lot of love and soul in each dish. We drive an easy 30 min. each way and, TBH, I'd pay double what they charge. Kokyu fell so short of this mark that we'll likely never return to this location until I'm able to forget why I didn't like it. I ordered the unreal chicken sliders and my wife ordered the pork belly bowl. My sliders we're so chewy they were close to inedible, the blue cheese was overpowering and the flaver didn't end up working at all. My wife's belly bowl was 90% pure fat. The fat is always expected but there has to be a balance in the pork belly to make it work. I'll give this three stars because the staff was great and I'm hopeful that this is new restaurant problems. read more

My better half sampled quite a bit tonight- delicious fish tacos, lobster tacos, calamari tacos (special and a bit dry), chatt wings and THE best nachos I'be ever had. I love that they combined Kokyu with Kokyu Na'Mean along with a number of other concepts (you can even get a burger there now). We ordered takeout for an outside social distancing friend hangout. P/U was easy - we ordered online and when I arrived, they brought the order to my car. They have a couple of outside tables as well. We opted to sit outside at my friend's fire pit for a little extra warmth. My two friends had bowls, the Veggie Bap (rice with lots of fresh veggies), and a Beef bowl, both large portions with leftovers. I had the Shrimp Tacos - two flour tortilla tacos with crispy shrimp, pickled veggies and a flavorful sauce - a little sweet & spicy. I finished all of mine and was satisfied. First time today and we'll be back. The honey gochujang sandwich is HUGE and delicious. It's also messy so get napkins! We also had the kojangles and sweet fries, both tasty. The menu is so creative. I've been here three times and ordered different dishes (daily specials are not listed on the website) and they have all exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor, presentation and portion sizes (especially the bowls). The bulgogi bowl and street corn were fantastic! I had to take them to go and the smell in my car made my mouth water. The beef was soft, sweet and full of flavor, the sticky rice wasn't dry at all and the lettuce and kimchi were a great addition. I loved that the street corn was cut into pieces because it meant I could share. Great new spot! read more

One of my favorite places in the Southpoint area. Food is always delicious. I get the pork belly rice bowl and my husband gets the brisket rice bowl. We got a couple of the day's specials, which were both pretty good although the meat on the Hawaiian bread sandwich was sweeter than we'd like (should've expected that .. it is Hawaiian bread, after all!).
