Waygu

Super yummy!! This was what we got from Seattle restaurant week! A must-try is their waygu sushi which is not pictured! This spot is a great spot to celebrate birthdays or anniversaries or just for dinner! They always have great steaks! The chicken and pastas are also really good!! Service is great feels very homey as well as the ambiance!! Really fun vibes and cannot recommend this place enough!

This was a night for our small group of friends reunion and it was a great spot. I've always loved what Wallingford has to offer. Parking is not the easiest but again, it's Seattle so it's to be expected. Make reservations and come a lil early to park. Once you are seated, it is a nice and cozy spot. The staff are great. Matthew was our server and he was fabulous. It can get warm in there so dress appropriately. Okay food !! Omg, amazing. The Amuse was an edamame gazpacho like dish. Unique and flavorful I loved it. Then the hamachi appetizer which had apple and pesto and heavenly goodness. Then to the main course. The rib eye on a cast iron with the anchovy mashed potatoes. Hold on, I know you're thinking ANCHOVY POTATOES?!?!!? If you aren't allergic, you must try it. I mean it's the same thing that seasons Caesar dressing. The onions underneath the potatoes underneath the steak and topped with the Japanese steak sauce?!?! **chef's kiss** Then lastly the fire tofu cheesecake. Love how dense and light it was. I know makes no sense but that's what it was. The hybrid of the 2 DELISH. I let them know I'm gluten free and they were so mindful and asked along the way. We are coming back Kokkaku! Wonderful first impression and sharing with all my friends and family to try. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Heard about this place on social media and new I wanted to try it! When we walked in it wasn't busy but a lot of tables were reserved. They had a two top outside which was perfect. I ordered the lemon soda water and it came with tower of 8-9 lemons. We then ordered the beef carpaccio with the egg in the middle and burrata to start. Everything was delicious. I then ordered the steak with grilled onions. Delicious and so flavorful. One of my go to now's for Japanese bbq.

Food - this is our second time here, first time was during resto week. they have an excellent array of dishes. i like coming here for the steak. but the drinks are good and all of the apps. service - attentive and friendly. Ambiance - feels like THE neighborhood hang out spot. i noticed a ton of people walking by and stopping right outside to read the menu! its always busy with both the date night crowd and families.

Incredible. One of the best dining experiences I have had in Seattle! An amazing happy hour menu with great deals. The rib eye was my favorite, though. The flavor and tenderness of the meat was insane and the mashed potatoes and onions soaked up the juices of the steak, which made for a delicious side. The wagyu nigiri, Japanese curry, and Calpico cocktails were all incredible as well.

Had an enjoyable dinner here. The atmosphere is nice, open kitchen, warm lighting, friendly staff. Their steak tartare w smashed potatoes was a great way to start the meal. The crispy potatoes paired well with/ the thinly sliced tartare. For the main dishes we ordered the ribeye steak and mashed potatoes. I usually don't really enjoy the mashed potatoes that come as a side with steaks but their anchovy mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery and so savory. I almost enjoyed it more than their steak. Their bolognese pasta was good. Not as mind blowing as the mashed potatoes but still a very enjoyable dish.

Finally got around to trying the happy hour at Kokkaku with friends and was pleasantly surprised at their menu selections. Happy hour started with an order of their Toki Old Fashioned. The drink was perfectly made and garnished with a dried orange slice. This was followed up with Toki Highball. We also tried their Lemon Fista, which was a mix of lemon syrup, lemons, and club soda. The presentation definitely catches the eye. The drink was garnished with frozen layered lemon slices. Their freshly shucked half shell oysters were only $1.75 per piece. Naturally we had to ordered 2 dozen. We also ordered cocktail shrimp, 2 pieces of their seared Wagyu Sushi, and 10oz grilled steak with basil sauce. The cocktail shrimps were large and perfect for sharing. The Wagyu Sushi was seared table side. The beef was thinly cut and very tender. The 10oz grilled steak with basil sauce was perfectly cooked and served with fries. We also ordered the Wagyu Four-ways appetizer from their regular menu. The appetizer consisted of A-5 Wagyu sashimi, Wagyu nigiri sushi, American Wagyu gunkan sushi, and tartare with quail egg. This was a decent sample set and would definitely recommend. Service was fantastic. Our server was very attentive and frequently checked in. The restaurant had cozy vibes and decorated for the holidays. I'm definitely returning to try their

Checked this place out during Seattle Restaurant Week when the had a great pre-set menu going. Overall, it was a great meal and somewhere I definitely plan on checking out again and would 100% recommend. Food: I had with the Wagyu Roast Beef with smashed potatoes, the Teres Major 10oz steak with mashed potatoes and the tofu cheesecake. Both meat dishes were cooked perfectly and the potatoes for both were so good. The cheesecake was the perfect ending! Service: The staff all were amazing, attentive and helpful. We sat at the bar and it was a great experience. They do get busy, so try to make a reservation! Ambiance: Its a nice setting but still feels very casual. Perfect spot for a date night! It is a smaller restaurant so may be harder to accommodate large groups.

Went for happy hour and enjoyed the wings. The fries were nice and crunchy and the steak flavor was great but the texture was a little chewy.

I finally got to try Kokkaku in Wallingford with a group of friends, and overall it was a really good experience! The restaurant is small and cozy, with a smoky, grill-heavy vibe that adds to the atmosphere (just be prepared for your clothes to smell like BBQ if you stay a while). I did the tasting course, which came with an amuse, appetizer, choice of steak, and a chocolate cake dessert. The meat was absolutely delicious--tender, flavorful, and beautifully seasoned. My medium-rare steak was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately, two of my friends' wagyu steaks came out still raw in the center. The staff was kind enough to reheat them, but there were still a few undercooked spots, which was disappointing considering the quality of the meat. Service was on the slower side, but they were definitely busy, so we didn't mind too much. The happy hour menu was a great surprise--$7 glasses of white wine and wagyu sushi at a great price! I'd definitely come back just for happy hour, especially to try more of their bruschettas, which are only offered then. All in all, a tasty and unique spot with some room for improvement in consistency, but still worth visiting if you love good grilled meats and don't mind a little smoky ambiance.

Parfait plus a birthday dessert

First time here - found this gem of a place as suggested in our feed (we must save a lot of restaurant posts! - and the food did not disappoint. I ordered from the 3 course meal (Amuse, Appetizer, Japanese Hamburg Steak with Onion Sauce plus Cheese, Japanese Style Parfait for dessert) and my hubby ordered the pasta of the day and the Outside Skirt with Japanese Steak Sauce. Lots of food tonight but it was also a special occasion. Not super big space from what I could see but nice ambiance. Servers were great and kept the water glasses full! 3 course meal was a great deal and gives you an opportunity to try multiple dishes.

We visited on a Friday night and it was pretty slow. Parking is a little weird but you can park in the chipotle lot nearby. There wasn't many diners but service was still a little slow but I suppose it's because they didn't have that much people. The steak I got was supposed to be medium rare and it looked more on the rarer side. Quality of the meat is high in quality but I don't think I'd come back as it was lackluster

food: the first few bites were delicious! but after a while it does get a bit salty... we ordered 2 wagyu zabutons and a ribeye medium rare. it was a bit chewy, but nothing intolerable service: our server was sweet! helped us with any questions we had ambiance: i love the cozy atmosphere! there's an open kitchen and warm lighting soo cute!

Ask the Community - Kokkaku

Does the restaurant have parking?

Street parking only.

Do they allow walk ins? Or only by reservations?

They allow walk ins if they are not completely full for the evening. I highly recommend making a reservation though, as they can get full quickly! They have an online reservation system, or you can call them at their phone number.

Can I walk in? Or they only accept reservation?

They are accepting reservations through yelp and phone pick-up orders.

I have been calling the restaurant so many times but no one pick up, I just want to know if toddler allowed to be in the restaurant with us cause We have reservation on Thursday?

Yes, they allow toddlers. THere is a designated bar area that is 21+

Do they still serve the Wagyu 4 ways?

Yes, they do!

Looking for humanely raised and humanely butchered meats. Any idea if this restaurant offers pasture-raised animals fed a natural diet on their menus? Thanks!

Some of their steaks come from Snake River Farms (Idaho).

He did make a reservation earlier in the day for 8:15 so when we got there, we got seated right away. We ordered a few things. We got the City Pop Roll and it was yummy, very fresh. We got the pork belly skewers (salt and tare), we loved them!!! The BBQ eel was delicious too. We loved the harami skewers too. The one we didn't care for was the tofu one. Overall, very delicious and good service. They did not have a few options we wanted (shrimp and wagyu) as they had ran out, so just fyi if you go later in the day.

They are a retro Japanese themed izakaya with cute Mario block lights and even a little wrap pipe to put your yakitori sticks in! My friends come here often and luckily one of them invited us to his birthday party. They were pretty busy for a Wednesday evening so definitely make a reservation. My friend called them a few hours prior and was able to get a spot secured for us. It is Seattle so street parking is necessary to dine in. When we arrived, it was hard to get someone to notice us but after more of his invited guests game in, one of the employees acknowledged us and told us it would be a few minutes for them to set up the table. After a few minutes, we were told we can have a seat and we were close to where the chefs were cooking the yakitori so it was a little warm but not overwhelming. We were given menus and they were doing their Seattle restaurant week as well. I ended up doing the Seattle Restaurant $50 omakase while adding a ichigo daifuku for dessert as I've always wanted to try it. I got their Secret Fort Nectar while my boyfriend Arnold Palmer in Japan to enjoy while we waited for food since it would take some time. The drinks were refreshing and a great way to wait for your food. I also do appreciate that they share what drinks pair well with what on their menu. My appetizer platter arrived not too long after my drink and it was pretty decent. I definitely wasn't expecting to see raw fish here but it was meh. The salad was decent but wish there was a bit more sweet potato and that they removed the skin off. The house-made tsukemono was decent but nothing really memorable. Tahe clam chowder was next and one of the main reasons I ordered this as I love clam chowder and it sounded like such an interesting twist on a classic. The taste was familiar but it was rich and delicious with a good amount of the listed ingredients. The yakitori platter was phenomenal and I know their yakitori is what they are famous for. My friends and boyfriend received their yakitori as well and it smelled and looked divine. Next the chirashi don arrived and it was again just meh, as it wasn't as fresh as I would like it and they had way too much rice in comparison to the fish given. The ichigo daifuku was the perfect ending to the meal as it was pleasantly sweet and perfect texture. My biggest issue stems from the waitresses and waiters. They are friendly but don't really seem to check in often. It was mostly when we were getting food or they saw empty plates, we were able to grab their attention. Additionally, the biggest issue that I had here was when we ordered yakitori with some of the other guests, they put it all on the same plate. The employee goes through the different yakitori then just puts it down. I would rather they separate it especially knowing that we were going to pay separately. It caused an issue of one of the other guests eating one of our yakitoris and when we told the waitress that, she kindly says she will check. The same male employee comes back and speaks to us rudely about how he ensured that he explained all of the yakitoris and it did arrive. He then just asks if we want another one ordered which we did but I just felt like it was a bit unprofessional of the waitstaff. It seems the ladies hide behind the male employee whenever there are issues. Another example is my friend said she ordered two yakitori items but only was given one, she asked the female employee about if it was still coming and the lady said she would check. Again, the male employee arrives saying there must have been a miscommunication cause they only had one order in a gruff tone. It seems like maybe they aren't a fan of big groups or maybe having a rough day but just seemed unprofessional especially to a party that is paying gratuity. I would consider coming here again but hopefully the service will be better.

While they could've been speaking to menu technicality of simply having it on the menu, in a well-spirited reply they said they had it for us. And so we... * Took a $35 Lyft to zoom over and respect their time, which certainly contributed to the frustration but very much isn't where most of it derived from. We made it a few minutes before the time we said we'd be there. * The only reason this isn't one star is because we ordered skewers that were pretty decent. I do recommend those. * Make sure to have phone charge for the virtual menus The host was amazing!!! Incredible spirits for late night. The servers were pretty garbage! I say servers plural because dude and his lookalike double-teamed us and somehow both sucked. I say this as someone who's worked in the service industry for 3 years. The servers seemed actively dismayed & angry that we were at the restaurant (there were 2 bigger tables that ended up remaining before we left the place, mind you), which simply could've been easily mitigated by telling us at 8:50PM to come a different day if we wanted better service or something of the sort. After traveling far & wide for this freakin Okonamiyaki, with an offputting slight glare, the waiter told us that they didn't have it for the night. No reason provided: "we just don't have it"... mmmk buddy. At least lie to us and say that the kitchen doesn't have any more ingredients or something dude. Upon the 3 of us ordering what we got, each item was disappointing in its own right: * To be fair, my friend who ordered the Uni Udon was warned that it might be a little weird tasting, and it sure was. Don't recommend * The JFC Don pictured was about 90% rice according to my friend. Nothing more needed to say there. * Annd my Maguro Avocado Don... wow I was astonished at how much I disliked it. The rice was lukewarm. Nothing was mentioned about minced tuna on the menu so it looked like dog food in my bowl. I'm white... so what in the white people shit was in my bowl? Like...genuinely. I could make that 10x better at my house in half the time and I'm a fcking college student. Is seasoning no longer with us? Does anyone know what pepper or garlic are? Was astonished at how one can make a dish so terrible. I only ate it because I'm broke and can't afford other stuff. The dish looks as horrible as it tasted , and I made it look better than it was served to me I could go on. And lastly, the checks. Yknow, for guys that seemed so pissed for us being there, they were slow as hell with the checks. I'm kind af but a bitch when I'm fucked with (case in point here), so I really gave them my whole dentures, which was exponential in magnitude compared to what they gave us. Thank you Issian, for a terrible night. Citizens of the world, please don't waste your money here, I beg you.

Shortly after, soap appeared in the bathroom with no acknowledgment or apology. What concerns me most is this: if the customer-facing restroom had no soap during the dinner rush, and the response to being asked about it was irritation rather than urgency, what does that say about how handwashing is handled behind the scenes? My biggest issue is that the sushi just seems to lack flavor. As someone who eats sushi regularly and has tried many places around Seattle, I found it to be some of the least memorable sushi I've had at a restaurant. What makes this especially difficult to say is that the staff is genuinely lovely. They are some of the nicest people, and I really wish the food matched the service! The rolls have a great rice-to-fish ratio, and the fish itself tastes very high quality. You can tell they're actually paying attention to the balance of each piece instead of just loading everything up with rice and sauce. The nigiri was probably the highlight. Each piece had its own sauce, seasoning, or garnish that was clearly chosen for that specific fish, which reminded me of what you'd get at an omakase. It makes the nigiri feel much more thoughtful than the standard fish-on-rice you get at a lot of sushi places. It's also cute inside, definitely a good ambiance for a casual date at night. The restaurant is small enough that it's always easy to get service when you need it and the staff are friendly! Overall, this is a great middle ground between an expensive omakase and cheap everyday sushi.
