I love Koja Kitchen and was thrilled when they finally opened one in the OC but then it closed like a year later. Each time I visit the Bay Area I want to hit up a Koja. I typically get a Koja sandwich with fries but wanted some greens so decided on a bowl that had white rice, green salad and kimchee. I also wanted to try the pork taco so I got that as well. My meal was like how I remember. The short rib bowl was so good with the sweet teriyaki type flavor with the hot sauce drizzled on top and pairs well with mixed greens with soy ginger dressing for a little balance. I could eat this every week. The braised pork taco had an odd creamy sauce which was okay but I prefer more of a salsa based type of topping. The fried onions is a nice touch though. There is no dine-in option at this location at the time and currently only have to-go orders. There are tables outside. They do want you to order online but we walked in and they just took our order there. I miss the food at Koja Kitchen and wish they would open another location back in SoCal area. read more

I'm a big Koja fan, but this location always seems to slack. Multiple times I've ordered here and they forgot my order or other times they forget an item. This time, I Doordashed two braised pork sandwiches and a set of Korean buffalo wings. The two braised pork sandwiches had really dry pieces of pork and the employees forgot the lemon wedge and masago that comes with both. The only saving grace was the wings since those were actually quite delicious. I just wish the wings had a bit more spice but that's just a personal preference. I've been to three other Koja locations, and those remain consistent in serving high quality food with delicious flavors. They're definitely worth trying once. There's not a lot of seating here so don't plan on inviting a big group. I ordered via the kiosk. It was fast and they bring the food right to you. Ordered Pickup through DoorDash because ordering through their website has a glitch when trying to add items to the cart. Anyways - my order was hot and ready at the pick-up time quoted. The staff was also very nice and packaged my food well. Although I didn't stay, the place seemed very clean. They also have screens you can place orders from. There's isn't much seating. I think that's maybe why the place was kinda empty bc i think most people do to-go or delivery. The Beef KoJa has a good amount of everything, but definitely add Kimchi or Sriracha to off set the pineapple and make it the perfect spicy, sweet and hearty bite! I've always enjoyed Koja Kitchen, whether it's been from one of their trucks to their brick and mortar locations. I like how the brick and mortar locations have a bit more menu selection so I was excited to try the Dublin location. Parking can get a little crazy here as it's in a busy shopping center but it was surprisingly quiet in the center and restaurant when we came in. We got an original Koja, the Braised Pork, and umami fries to go. All the food was just as I remember. The garlic rice "buns" are tasty and there's a good amount of meat in there. Located in the Persimmon Place plaza, Koja kitchen is right next to Chipotle on the corner. The store itself is pretty small and indoor dining is closed right now. You order online and pick up in the store. I don't know if you can order in store because there was no one standing in the front but online ordering is pretty quick. I got two of the original Koja and the Umami fries. The food was just ok. The fries were not very much for the price and there was just one small piece of pork. The original Koja was not everything I hoped it to be. The meat was season but just ok. The rice buns were ridiculously hard. They were over fried and just way too crispy. My sister couldn't even eat them because the hard fried rice cut the inside of her mouth when trying to bite down. Overall, it's an ok place to grab a quick bite with friends. I've been coming here many times and service and meals are somewhat inconsistent. Food is good, but portions fluctuate wildly. I always order and eat there. Yesterday I ordered as usual and when I received my order of kamakazi fries, it came in a small take out/leftover container with a rubber band around it. My friend and I ordered the same thing and were surprised at the containers handed to us, but just sat down and opened them and the portion was considerable smaller. We should've said something but let it go. As I sat there, I noticed others that were there to eat in were delivered their food in a brown paper bag even though they were there to eat at the tables. This was our first and our last visit here. We arrived and there was one family seated. We placed our order and waited and waited and waited. Took 30 minutes for us to receive our food and 45 minutes for my sister to receive hers. This was before the dinner rush. They didn't apologize for the wait or update us on our food. We also received a text message saying our food was ready but it wasn't. That happened to everyone who was there. I think they just did that so that on their end it would show that they were getting orders out on time. The food was ok. More greens and rice in the bowls. Could use more protein and kimchi. Burgers weren't bad. The musubj's looked sad. The spam was thinly sliced, dry and burnt. We did enjoy the chicken wings. The buffalo was our favorite. The soy garlic was little too sweet for our liking. Would we come back? No. If we had to we would only get the wings. read more

Came here for dinner on Saturday night the 4th before going to the movies. Koja has a unique menu. The have beef or pork that you can have as a sandwich where the ends are made of rice, or you can get the meats in a bowl/dish with rice, and kimchi, & sauces. They also have spam masubi, & really good waffle fries you can also get with meat. The best fries have a spicy type Mayo on top. This location is understaffed. They don't have enough staff to cook & one person dedicated to staying at the front to work with the customers. Obviously not the crews fault, but when us & other customers were at the front, you can be standing there a while to talk to someone, and are left to only order off the touch screen. Our food came out about 10 minutes after we got a text saying it was ready. If the owners staffed this place with the proper amount of people they wouldn't have these issues. read more

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of Koja Kitchen when they are not being served out of a truck. Because the location was in Dublin, I thought that I'd have a great experience. But it was awful. The sandwich was so uninspiring, I didn't take a picture of it. Very sweet meat, surrounded by dry crusty rice buns. No sauce. I've never had that experience at the trucks, but both this location and the Emeryville location are so disappointing. This is actually a one-star review. So, why the second star? Well, the second star is because they required masking, social distancing, and so on when I was there. This was some months ago and I really appreciated that. The service was also excellent! I visited the Berkeley and Walnut Creek locations years ago, but this was my first visit to this location. I came for the Mochiholic pop-up and figured I'd pick up lunch as well. It was my first time trying their beef bowl and man, was the flavor of the KBBQ beef good. Unfortunately, it was also extremely greasy, rendering the salad mix underneath it completely drenched in oil. At first, I thought it was just wilted from the heat, but after a few bites, it became apparent otherwise. Additionally, the brown rice had too much water content, so it was a tad mushy. The KBBQ beef was truly the star here (and the only reason I kept eating the rice). The freshness and acidity from the kimchi was also key. It cut through some of the grease. That said, it's a good-sized portion, and I appreciate that my takeout order included a fork and a bunch of napkins since I forgot to ask when picking up my order. Not many places I've gotten takeout from during COVID have included either! I'll probably try another bowl in the future. Maybe others won't be as greasy. (Not all owners reach out to customers, amirite?!!). He even treated my family to a meal, which was salivatingly delicious (and accurate). Ordering: KoJa is still currently operating as a take-out only restaurant, but ordering is super convenient with a kiosk system that allows you to customize your bowl or rice bun burger! Food: Overall, the food is super flavorful, never misses, and is the perfect balance between sweet, umami, and fresh. The one thing I will say is that their packaging for their items comes in a paper to-go box which tends to leak water and becomes soggy pretty quickly. I have been a fan of KoJa Kitchen since their food truck used to make rounds and stop near my work every once and awhile. My coworker and I even made a lunch trip when they were taping for a featured segment on TV. What drew me to their truck were their unique rice patty-type buns that they make. So, I was thrilled when they opened up a store front in my very own neighborhood. With current regulations in place during these pandemic times, I placed my order about 1hr ahead of time online. I arrived when my order was set to be ready and was told that I had a big order so that it would take a few more minutes. I patiently waited for my order. Although I had to wait about 20min extra for my food, the food was still tasty. Kamakazi Fries-delicious waffle fries topped with bulgogi beef. Kimchi adds a bit of spice along with sweetness from the Japanese mayo. "The Original" KoJa-Tender chunks of Korean BBQ short rib with lettuce lightly dressed with sesame vinaigrette and sweetness of the katsu aioli. I would definitely look forward to trying their food is person, after COVID. My experience is based on take-out and would fall closer to 3.5 stars. Preparation was very fast and pick-up was extremely easy! However, for the price you do get a great sized meal but I felt like I was filled up with carbs. The rice patties were still crispy/chewy (in a good way) by the time we got home, waffle fries were great (cold by the time we got home), flavor was on point, but the meat (carnitas) was 80% fat and barely any meat. On top of that, there was twice as much rice as there was protein as well. I would recommend trying a different meat. I was pleasantly surprised to find a location in Dublin and was excited to try it for dinner last night. Unfortunately the online ordering system was glitched, but a quick call into the store to place a takeout order was easy and painless. Service was fine. Original Koja -- with grilled rice buns stuffed with marinated short rib, this was a juicy fusion between Korean and American. I wish there was a little bit more lettuce to give the feel of the lettuce wraps with bulgogi with Korean barbecue, but the overall flavor was good and I'm always impressed with how well the rice buns stay together. Short rib bowl -- just the Original Koja in bowl form, I enjoyed having the option of white vs brown rice. The salad mixed greens was also a nice touch. The short rib was seasoned well if a little chewy, and I preferred this more traditional version to the Koja. Kamikaze fries -- what could go wrong with waffle fries in an animal-style-esque smattering of marinated beef and sauces? I thought it was a touch pricey for the portion, but flavor was good. Teriyaki zen bowl -- I had originally ordered this in Koja form, but didn't mind it in deconstructed fashion either. I liked the vegetarian meat substitute with soy and portobello, it's unlike most other meat substitutes I've tried. The texture was a little mealy and I couldn't really taste the teriyaki, but the peppery taste was very nice. When I come to Koja I go for the Original Koja every single time (kinda boring I know) but why mess with the best? Korean BBQ short rib served between crispy rice patties hamburger style. I love some Korean BBQ and Koja offers such a unique style of serving it sandwiched between rice (the katsu aioli is out of this world). The kamikaze fries are also legit!! I love some Irish Nachos and the Korean take is even better in my humble opinion. Waffle fries with you guessed it more Korean BBQ beef, kimchi (my newly found food crush), kewpie mayo, and fresh green onions. Excellent fusion restaurant in Persimmon Place in Dublin. I had visited when it first opened but chose not to do a review then, waiting for things to settle down. This evening, my wife and I visited and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant was busy but not packed. My wife ordered the Original KoJa burger (short ribs in a rice patty) and I ordered the short rib salad bowl (without rice). On a whim I also ordered their "for a limited time only" AhiCado nachos for us to share. The food took longer than expected because they ran out of short rib (which is very popular) and had to make a fresh batch - the silver lining was that our meat was warm and tender. We were hungry, and attacked the AhiCado nachos first, as the server told us they'd go soggy otherwise. The "nachos" were actually wonton crisps, and they were delicious! The kitchen was generous with how much tuna and avocado they'd put into our appetizer, and the ingredients were fresh as can be. The best part was the sinfully decadent dressing - it took a good dish over the top! Next - we dug into our entrées. My wife loved the KoJa burger (I had a bite and enjoyed it too) and I found my short rib salad bowl filling and healthy. While neither compared to the nachos we had earlier, they were both excellent. Service was friendly and they graciously apologized for the delay. Parking was a bit of a challenge but we found a spot near the Verizon store nearby. Rest rooms are gender neutral and were spotlessly clean. We shall definitely return. read more

Unfortunately, due to the wide number of different businesses in the plaza, parking can be a bit tricky. This is my first time at this location, but not the first time having KoJa Kitchen. My friends and I wanted to grab some light bites and ended up ordering the Kamikaze Fries and Spam Musubis. Food came out reasonably quick, although the Spam Musubis took longer. The Kamikaze Fries were delish, and will always be my favorite item form their menu. Staff was friendly, restaurant was decently clean, and had a fair amount of seating indoors and out. read more
