Went here with a couple of friends. Out waiter was super chill and nice but the food was sub par for all of us. My friend's teriyaki chicken gave them a bad stomache ache and it tasted pretty weird. I ordered green tea and it was luke warm which kinda sucked. The interior design is pretty cute and creates a nice calm atmosphere if that's what you're looking for but prob not gonna cone back... Excellent place. Everything was delicious I had the wasabi pork sumai, pork belly bun and the pork ramen noodle. Wife had some sushi (see photo of receipt for name) The sumai wasn't spicy like wasabi but it did have the horseradish kick that open up the nose holes. The pork belly buns were good Buna were uber soft and just right the pork was a little less savory then I would have liked it more on the sweet side but. Good nevertheless. The pork ramen was awesome. They used the same pork in the ramen that was in the bun. If you get this see if they can throw in some more there were only 2 peices in mine but it actually tasted better in the soup. Big bowl of ramen you'll leave full. Almost forgot the hot yuzu tea!!! This stuff would be. Awesome served cold. It's was a honey ginger mix just the right level of sweetness. With real bits of ginger on the bottom. I was really excited to try this place based on the reviews. Unfortunately I was really disappointed! We ordered sushi and ramen. The sushi (spicy tuna) was realllly fishy tasting which is always a turn off. I got the spicy pork ramen and it just wasn't good. I didn't like anything about it really from the flavor to the noodles to the vegetables. I also tried to order a glass of wine but was told the whole wine menu is outdated and that they only had 3 basic options out of the whole section I was looking at. Went to Koi Kokoro for lunch today and really enjoyed the experience. From the moment we walked in the door we were promptly seated. Our waitress was very attentive throughout our entire visit. To start I ordered the pork belly buns which were delicious! The order came with two buns and my husband and I shared them, but I certainly could have eaten them both by myself. I was thrilled to see they offered a sushi flight on some of the specialty rolls so I could try two different options. I chose the Sakana Finder and Miru Mountain rolls. My husband got the lunch special with salad and two hand rolls. Everything tasted very fresh, especially the crab salad on the Miru Mountain roll. What can I say other than yum! We've been to this restaurant several times and each time it gets better and better. The sushi is fresh, top quality and always prepared to absolute perfection. Definitely try the soy garlic or hot wings, the pork belly bun (oh boy!), the bon bombs, kimchi rice, aka lady roll! Never mind, just work your way through the whole gosh darn menu! This is the second time I ordered take out from here. I was never a big sushi take out person prior to this whole pandemic. The sushi from here seems as if you are sitting in the restaurant and eating it directly out of the kitchen. We where told 15 minutes when we placed and order and when we arrived it was read. They had added everything you need into the bag. One cup of soy sauce for every roll you order along with 1 set chop sticks for each roll. Galbi+Scallion Buns ( awesome Korean BBQ beef Patty with greens on a pillow like bun! It was amazing) Chicken+Ramen (perfect, not overly salty like others... Chicken wasn't exactly white meat chicken like I was expecting but it was still blasted with flavor) this would be perfect on a cold winter day! Lobster+tuna wrap (so good, 3 pieces .. Extremely impressed by this new Japanese Tapas place on Main Street in Islip. You can see how passionate the owner is as he takes the time to visit and engage with the customers, and check final plating from his staff. The variety of the menu reminded me of my time in Japan. From the rice buns stuffed with beef, fish, or pork, to the Bon Boms, to the speciality rolls, etc. The menu is so extensive and quality of the sushi so good that I have to go back. I have been in search of a true ramen place in Suffolk County for the past few years and I'm so glad I've found one so close to home. Its not Ippudo or anything but definitely really good for a LI restaurant. To start, we had the fried blue point oysters. They were so gooooood!! The batter was nicely crisp and not oily at all. Then we tried the soy garlic chicken wings. Flavor was delish. We also had the galbi buns. I liked it but I wasn't in love. I guess I really do compare buns to Ippudo or Momofuku buns and that's hard to beat. Probably not the fairest comment. I've only had their miso ramen so far but I quite enjoyed it. There is a tiny kick to it unlike other miso ramens i've had before but nothing that anyone would complain about at all. On another note, we did try the unagi bon bomb but I didn't see what the fuss was about bon bombs. It just tasted like an eel sushi. I'm going to go back and try a different kind next time. The service and decor was pretty awesome. Staff is super nice and the decor is authentic, clean, and relaxing of an atmosphere. The sushi was fresh and flavorful and soooooooooo delicious. I ordered all of this with delivery for $24. I was told delivery would take 45min - 1 hour, but my food was on the table within 30 min :). Loved this restaurant and wish it were in Nassau County so we could go more often. DH and I stopped by for lunch on a rainy Saturday last week because we couldn't find parking to attend Bayfest, two tickets I received as a Yelp Elite. Big bummer but everything happens for a reason and Koi Kokoro was obviously just the reason. DH and I both liked the vibe, relaxed, casual but not common. Simple yet not understated. Really cute decor, we stopped to look at all the drawings taped to the wall. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The menu had so many delicious options, enough vegetarian options to keep me from deciding on what to order. I finally settled on a crunchy tofu roll and the veg yutari bowl with a salad base (served with lemon infused soy, seaweed salad, lettuce, avocado, edamame beans & crunch) Both were absolutely delicious. Loved the flavors, the various textures played off each other perfectly. And anything with cruchies on them is a sure winner for me! I feel inspired to make boths dishes myself as I won't be able to make it to Koi Kokoro for some time. DH ordered the pork belly bun, Japanese calamari (with soy ginger marinade, and chicken karage siracha aioli and rice. He really enjoyed everything and said he'd like to come back. The menu was pretty extensive and I liked the fact that there were plenty of vegetarian versions. On our next visit, I'd like to order the vegetable tempura, the vegetable roll, and the crunchy tofu vege "inari" bun, (crunchy tofu, vege pickle with greens) DH and I split a large hot sake which was unexceptional but I was in the mood to drink something warm. Shared the kalbi and pork belly buns - both good and loved the pillowy buns. Love the pork belly meat but prefer the sauce of the kalbi. Also had the eel and salmon bons. Shoutout to the eel!!! Okay. I've eaten here about 20 times so I feel I have enough experience to provide an accurate review. That is not an overstatement. I also have eaten at almost every sushi restaurant in the area and can say that this ranks in the top 3 easily. It definitely is the best for the price. (A bold statement given the number of sushi restaurants on the south shore between Amityville and Patchogue, and north to Huntington) We typically come here for the sushi. The portions are great and the flavor is excellent. I like their Miru Mountain. We order their Bon Bomb party platter every time and it does not disappoint. The flavor is excellent and the fish is fresh. The koiro lady is quite good too. The only complaint is that they typically put a lot of sauce on their rolls, which can drown the fish in flavor. Also, a lot of the rolls come with soy paper as a standard, it's just too much when all the rolls you order are soy paper. I often order them with seaweed, which they will switch out at no extra charge. The hot food is excellent, I like the bulgogi and it's a welcome change when you're just not feeling raw fish. My main complaint: The portions for take-out food are much smaller than if you eat in the restaurant. The Bon Bomb platter for take out is a joke. I just don't understand why the portion size changes for all their rolls when you order take-out. I've had take out at least 5 times from here, and it's the same every time. I've removed a star for this. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars for this review, but this is such a solid option for sushi in the area that I have to go with 4 stars. read more
