The food is okay. I have no complaints there. The restaurant has two separate counters, one where you can order sushi and the other chinese takeout. I became a regular customer once my regular spot moved on. Usually, I order and dine in as they have tables and chairs, so there's that option . At times, the music they're playing is a bit too loud for my liking. There is a bathroom on the premises for one person usage at a time. I've gone in there, only to find out there was no soap to wash my hands. SMH! I just can't!! Many times the tables haven't been cleaned. The gentleman by the Sushi side was nice enough to wipe the table clean when I asked him one time. However, I went there recently and again encountered a dirty table where I was sitting. Therefore, I got up and asked one of the women on the chinese takeout side if she can have someone wipe the table as it was dirty. As I turned, I wasn't sure but through my peripheral vision I could have sworn she mumbled for me to clean it as she was removing paper towel from it's holder. I was like nah, that did not just happen. I did'nt just hear what I think I did. So, I continued on walking right back to the table I was occupying with my Mom. Time passes, nothing. My Mom asked did you ask her, I said yes, but maybe she didn't hear me but I'm not sure but I think she may have been trying to have me clean the table, myself but I'm not sure because I was already turning around when she was mumbling something. So, after some time, my Mom says, "okay I'll go up and ask her" but before she did she asked the gentleman by the sushi side, "who's supposed to be wiping the tables clean?" He pointed sideways towards the other counter where I had already been. Okay, back to my Mom. She gets to the lady and asks about having someone wipe the table clean. The woman begins to tell my Mom, "you clean it, here," trying to hand my Mom a paper towel. My Mom answers with "I don't work here" and returned to the table, then the woman says "move to another table". I was flabbergasted! First of all, all the tables were dirty, second of all, how does she expect to have her customer to take care of what should already be taken care of by the establishment, on the regular. Mind you, we are also regular customers but regular customers or not, she should not treat her patrons this way. I can understand if it were a busy day/night and she asked can you please wipe it. I feel like this is a quick way of losing customers. The food is good but it's not the best. With so many chinese take out establishments to choose from, I think it's time for me to venture out and try some of the local chinese take outs. In conclusion, if you want to order take out food go right ahead. Thinking of dining in, don't expect a clean table and expect to clean it yourself. Oh and make sure you carry your own soap because if you need to use the br, you may be out of luck on the soap department. On a positive note, as I mentioned, the food is okay. read more

Chinese is always a good idea. I heard my coworker ordering Chinese food from down the hall. Chinese is one of my favorites, so I couldn't resist. I ordered shrimp with broccoli lunch special with brown rice and an egg roll. The shrimp with broccoli was great. Generous amount of shrimp, and food flavor. The egg roll was a little greasy. Best chinese in Brentwood/Bayshore area The pork fried rice is the brown tasty flavor, I tell them to add the egg with mine. The best crispy chicken wings which I usually eat with the hot sauce. Yum! The chicken and broccoli is very tasty and we get it in garlic sauce for that little spice to it. "Golden Star" is just one of those places when you know your not going to enjoy, but your in the mood for chinese and it's there. Located in a strip mall, it has plenty of parking. Inside is actually pretty nice. They large menu board that was well lit. They had nice floors, they also had plenty of staff. But what that lacked was the most important thing and that's quality. I was with a friend who ordered the crab ragoons. It was five dollars for six, which isn't a bad deal. But the curse of the card continues, I was surprised when he charged a extra dollar to the sale because he used his debit card. Ouch! Hopefully for that, they taste good. I got the sesame chicken. Once we sat down to eat we both were in for a surprise. Here's a hint, it's not a good one. The crab ragoons had no filling or should I say very little. They didn't even taste good. So now it was up to my chicken to give this place a decent review. That two was a failure! I didn't like the sauce and the chicken wasn't good. Needless to say, it's my last trip there. This was the worst Chinese restaurant ever. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and the chicken tasted like rubber. It definitely was not cooked enough. It was so bad that I threw out because I was afraid to eat it and get sick. What a waste of money and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. It's a Sushi bar as well and the fish was sitting in the case without being cold it looked dried up and not fresh. read more

I ordered food on Sunday evening at 5:30pm and at 6:15 after I was given a 35-40 minute eta on the order, they informed me that the delivery guy left with my food. By 7pm the food still had not arrived and their excuse was that they got very busy, but shouldn't the food be made in the order that it was ordered? Why would ANYONE wait an hour and a half for food. Although they probably have the best food in Bay Shore, that isn't saying much because the Chinese food around here is terrible. Definitely not worth waiting almost 2 hours for. First time I ordered was last night, based on the reviews and more important, the honest and heartfelt responses or owners who sincerely wanted to rectify complaints. I had only the on-line menu to order from, and while GOLDEN STAR offers a great variety of interesting and eclectic dishes and novel twists on the the customary fare, the prices are vastly different. Thankfully, one reviewer had noted that, so I WAS prepared and asked the price of the Chef's Special Subgum Wonton, a dish I'd never heard of. It was $10.25 on-line, actual price, $14. It really was delicious...tho I didn't find any lobster meat in my . One of the shrimp was a bit chewy but so what, that can happen with seafood. I REALLY enjoyed this unique and flavorful meal...and it was SO much...you have to split into 2 meals. I forgot about the crispy wantons and by the time I tried one they had gotten soggy, but taste-size they were excellent. I also ordered steamed dumplings...just because I always get them and wanted to try them here. I didn't bother asking the price on those but thought it was an order of 6. Well, it was an order of 8 for $5.95 which is a good price! The dumplings were very doughy, which I am not accustomed to, but aside from that, they were the best I've ever had. DELIVERY WAS 10 MINUTES EARLIER THAN EXPECTED...AND VERY FRIENDLY & PROUD TO ACCOMMODATE!
