Eh..used to be really good now.eh. Foods,ok Service .well nobody was there but could've been more attentive..they always seem to like to stay in that corner by the sushi bar while you wait..and wait for service(2 tables).The ousters ate HUGE like way too big for me and the waitress was told how theu were not good at all after I was asked.She chuckled with zero comment or attentiveness.With all of the restaurants in Bayshore now..do better.You aren't bad but

Wanted to do something fun for a child's birthday, so looked around at the hibachi options. This one checked the box for proximity and a few friends who had used it said it did the trick, so we tried it out for a party of six with two kids. Did an early dinner, 5pm, made a reservation a week out, no wait. Staff was friendly and attentive, and the hibachi chef was entertaining, interactive, and cooked everything fine. Food quality was ok, nothing to write home about, but the quantity was large. If you're local and want to do hibachi without traveling, this is probably your best bet.

My family comes here every year for hibachi for my brothers' birthday - It's his favorite! Located in a small strip mall in Bay Shore, the inside of this restaurant is super trendy and clean. There's a bar area, a sushi bar, a regular dine-in restaurant section, and large hibachi tables. The hibachi was great! Our chef was so entertaining and fun. If you tell them it's your birthday, they'll bring out an ice cream dessert with this beautiful flower candle on top that spins and sings! My only gripe is that I told the waitress and chef that I was lactose intolerant and could not have butter in my meal, however TWICE they put butter in the food and tried to serve it to me. They then had to re-make those items (the chicken and fried rice) without butter. Make sure you check-in on Yelp: You get a free glass of wine!

Our first spot for Christmas was packed, so we headed to Sumou (since we had a wonderful experience last year). There weren't many people inside, so we were greeted and sat down immediately. We didn't do the hibachi yet, but, we did enjoy the sushi selection! The presentation from start to finish was beautiful, so much thought and care was put into each dish. Inside is fancy, dimly lit, and lots of space to sit. You can watch them create the sushi rolls too! read more

Delicious lunch specials. Got the 2 rolls a with miso soup and salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. Take out order was ready and staff was friendly. Loved the shrimp tempura roll and salmon tempura roll was great. read more

Delicious food in a warm and inviting setting. Sumou's food and service is always consistently good. Sushi and rolls are fresh and the variety is large. The special rolls are some of the best on the South Shore. The Hibachi and Teriyaki dishes are all delicious. The beef is Angus grade and so tender. The Bento Box is huge and a great value. Duck Teriyaki appetizer is a must try. Service is paced well and we never feel "rushed". Have not sat at the Hibachi grill but they are always busy and patrons seem to enjoy the experience. Can't say enough about the service, value and food. It's our local go--to restaurant. read more

We went for my wife's birthday and had a great time, the food is delicious, apps and dinner, def good portions. They made her birthday memorable, coming out with a dessert for her and adding a little comedy we all appreciated, and got a good, fun laugh. The sake was flowing too, never enough lol read more

This was our "down the block" when we lived in Bay Shore- we moved in 2020 and when we come back we try to get back to our faves. Tonight we ate here and it was an amazing meal. Soft shell crab appy was perfection! My wife and I each had one, and now we crave more!! My roll, her sashimi, tempora and the gyoza were delicious So happy to see Gary and Mindy again. "If you don't like it then don't order it!" As evidenced by our first review of Sumou, we have been a regular (almost weekly) here for nearly 10 years. This week we looked forward to some of our favorite foods for Friday night. I placed an order for take out including many of our favorites especially Chilean Sea Bass appetizer. When we got the order home I saw that the sea bass was exceptionally small. I called to speak with the manager but the person who answered the phone would not get the manager or even say if the manager was available. They simply said, "oh no, I can handle this!" Great customer service!!! But ok, handle me. I'm not happy with the portion size and would like to know what you plan to do? " Well, if you don't like it then don't order it" Ok I won't order the sea bass appetizer or anything else for that matter. There are many other sushi places for me to take my money. I won't miss you and you probably won't miss me but I promise you this I will use every social media platform to share this horrible customer service experience. It's a shame that one rude employee can impact a persons business. I know if she were my employee she would be fired but that's just me. I've been in business over 30 years and do anything I can to ensure customer satisfaction. Bye bye Sumou Hello Kotobuki, and all the other fine sushi places in the area. read more

This place is great, I go probably at least twice a month and always leave with a smile and a full tummy. We usually get hibachi, and the amount of actually really good food you get for the price is great. The service is always very good and it's a nice looking place on the inside. We usually visit Sumou during lunch time, my daughter and myself enjoy the lunch box Teriyaki chicken. It's the perfect amount of food. The service is always prompt and friendly the food is always fresh and the restaurant is very clean. On occasion we will order and take home and everything is packaged perfectly, all of the necessary utensils and sauces are provided. We always have a good experience at this restaurant, many options for similar food nearby but we enjoy Sumou. read more

The food is this restaurants saving grace, when clearly excellent customer service is not at the top of their priority list. Their hostess was less than pleasant when showing my party to our table, and could benefit from creating conversation with patrons, esp. when a hostess is the first and last person seen upon entering and leaving. Other than her pushy demeanor, we loved our hibachi experience. Have you seen an onion volcano? Never gets old! And my tri color roll was delectable. Would return!!! read more

We went to Sumou yesterday for a birthday. We had reservations for Hibachi at 2:30pm and were sat promptly. From the hostess to the waiter to our chef, everyone was very nice. Our hibachi show was fun and exciting. The only thing I would change, and I believe this is at other hibachi places, is to try and have the food all come off the grill around the same time. The rice came off of the grill and it took another 15 minutes to get the rest of the meal. The rice was cool by that time. I mixed the veggies and meat in the rice which heated it up a bit. Overall, I would return for more. read more

Stumbled over this place, going around in circles for a local massage parlor bc my back was in pain. I was never here. I'm a first-timer. The owner sat me ,..pulled my chair out got me a menu made me feel like I was a regular this was my first time and I ordered one of my favorites a cooked SpiceyGirl roll,..well,..OMG, It was ridiculously amazing! Not only was my dirty martini perfectly made by Mike, --a little dirty,..a few drops of dry vermouth,..stirred not shaken,..and of course the dirty ice on the side,..im.not picky,..haha Lol. The owner came over and said to me hey if you enjoyed your visit,..please give me your review on-line". And this is what I did. I like this place and I look forward to coming back read more

Unarguably the best sushi and hibachi in the area. My boyfriend and I regularly eat from here, both dine-in and take-out. The sushi is phenomenal! I love when sushi places give you TWO shrimp in the shrimp tempura rolls - they do not skimp out! So generous with sushi fillings and everything tastes so fresh and delicious. The dine-in service is super attentive and quick, very polite waiting staff. The interior is beautiful, as well. Great spot for a date night or for some hibachi fun with the family! Love this restaurant!! Workers and so friendly and understanding and always make sure you feel welcome and happy while dining here. The hibachi workers are amazing at what they do and help everyone feel like they are part of the show. The sushi here is amazing and never disappoints, the food is served quick and easily and will be made to order leaving everyone happy and smiling when they leave the restaurant :) read more

Many options for the gluten free lifestyle at this restaurant. The hibachi menu is very good. Staff is very friendly and works in a timely manner. Definitely recommend it for a dinner one night to the Bayshore locals read more

The atmosphere is cozy casual, making it the perfect place to go to with family and friends or on date night. Because of the consistently excellent service, cocktails and food, not to mention the vast parking lot, Takumi is now my favorite sushi restaurant on the Island.

The decor was beautiful; I really liked the consistent use of their logo, proudly illuminated at all the tables, which gave the space a sophisticated appearance. Even the menus were nicely done. I found myself gazing at the pictures instead of picking out my meal. To start we ordered the Japanese Clear Soup and the King's Treasure Roll. Both starters were delicious. The soup was served hot, lightly seasoned, and it really felt like comfort in a bowl. The treasure roll was good; we just had a hard time trying to pick it up with the chopsticks, as it was very slippery. With a little patience, we managed to get it. For beverages, we went with the Blueberry Lemonade and Virgin Mojito. Although both were decent, they were a little underwhelming and could've used more flavor. Next time, I might just order the Pineapple or Mango Virgin Mojito to see if it's any better. Our Entrees were great. My husband ordered the Spicy Crabmeat Crusted Filet Mignon, and he demolished it. I chose to go with two specialty rolls, The American Dream Roll and Rock N Roll, both fantastic. For dessert, we chose the Matcha Cheesecake and the 3 Flavor Tempura Ice Cream (vanilla, chocolate, and green tea). The cheesecake itself didn't have a strong Matcha taste, but that matcha ice cream was all the way IT! I could've had a bowl of that and been very satisfied. Really, their ice cream game is solid, so good! Lastly, our server Nicole was the cherry on top. She was so welcoming and attentive, offering suggestions, and providing descriptions of the menu items, she never made us feel bad for asking "What's That". All in all, we had an awesome experience at Takumi and look forward to visiting again.

What's not okay is having content creators with their bright lights blinding the patrons next to them. Having a bright camera light shone in our faces several times through our dinner soured the experience. I hope in the future the staff, and the owner (who was there), are more conscious of the dining experience for others.

Much like other places in this genre, one price gets you bottomless apps, salads, hibachi, sushi and more. Nothing I had tasted bad in any way, but there were some things I wasn't crazy about, and they all reeked of cheaping out. First, sashimi is an upcharge, a bit ridiculous in my book. And while the food was indeed tasty, there was a whole lot of filler and minimal seafood much of the time. Kani salad was almost entirely cucumber & tempura flakes, very little crab to be found. And this is the first time I've ever seen soft shell crab served chopped up - typically a spider roll for example is a nice size piece of it in there, but their 'jimmy roll' whatever crab may have been in there was minced to the point where you couldn't even taste it. While I didn't order hibachi I noticed that they limit you to one order from that column per person. The Little things like this made the experience feel cheapened, I'd rather they raise the cost a buck or two and stop with the upcharges and corner cutting, makes you feel a lot less ripped off. Also important to note - skip they white tuna, they're using escolar. You've been warned. Would I come back? If in the area with a group that wanted to go here, sure. But I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for it or even choose to dine here on my own again.

I came here on the recommendation of a co-worker who raved about this place. We had to wait 20 mins for seats, but is ok, it is a saturday night everywhere is busy. For appetizer I had my usual choice :rock shrimp, the sauce is amazing. My friend had king crab salad, the king crab was very fresh, and relatively big portion. they have a good selection of sushi rolls. Ingredients are all very fresh. Wow what a dining experience we had today in sumou today!!! Our friend who has been a royal customer of sumou for the past 15 yrs raved about this place . We came with a large group of friends. We were welcomed into the restaurant the second we walked into the door. The owner Gary and his wife made us feel like we are one of their family members. We order sushi and also hibachi dishes for everyone . The sashimi and fresh uni were the freshest we have ever tasted. Hugh portion for their entrees. Big selection of cocktails and wine. Awesome....I've been going here since they opened 11yrs ago. Although I moved out of town over 8 yrs ago, I seem to find myself taking the half hour drive to go for an excellent meal. There are many good sushi restaurants of the way but I haven't found one that compares to Sumou. read more

One of the best hidden secrets on Long Island. I have been eating sushi for over 30 years and have tried most of the sushi restaurants on Long Island. Sumou is outstanding and I highly recommend it. If you go there tell them Crazy Charlie sent me. Ask for Gary too. read more
