Love how kohl's is cleaning the registers after each customer. So i might have to wait 2 minutes to check out. What's the big deal.

My online return was a nightmare with online service, but Kohls at Derby fixed it all, with a little help from Octavia online.

Whenever I have stopped in, (which admittedly is not often), there is almost always someone who greets me fairly quickly and lets me know they are available to assist. On this latest visit I did have a question or two about a blazer I was looking at. The saleswoman was at the ready and was quite helpful. She let me know that even though the blazer was on sale already there was an additional 40% off. It was pricey to begin with but with both a sale price and the additional percentage off it became hard to resist...so I bought it. (I have been updating my seasonal blazer wardrobe over the past several months as I find blazers are often a great way to elevate an outfit and pull everything together.) I was also able to find a pretty gold belt. Alas, the belt was not on sale, and priced higher than I think it should have been but I think I will get a lot of use out of it so I purchased it. When I checked out the cashier was very helpful. She made sure to remind me that the blazer was now a "final sale" and I was in and out in no time flat. Pleasant and easy shopping.

In 1980, the book The Official Preppy Handbook was published. It was a surprising run-away hit…read morewritten as a tongue-in-cheek account of how to emulate a certain Northeast USA subset of prep-school and Ivy League-attending mostly white Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Instead of just being a parody the book became something of a how-to handbook and the look took off. The "preppy look" is now almost a caricature of itself and has moved far beyond the Northeast. In case you have not yet perfected the style yourself, assuming it is one you like, Vineyard Vines comes to the rescue in stores as far-flung as Newport Beach California and as unlikely as Alabama. My local outpost fits in quite comfortably in a town like Hingham which has what appears to be quite a few people for whom this is their signature style. As for me, I can appreciate it on others, less so on myself. But since my husband grew up in one of the prepster capitals of the world, I have grown an affection and fondness, tinged with amusement, for even some of the stranger representations of the style like sea creatures embroidered onto clothing. VV has a fairly broad selection of men's, women's and even children's styles so that in short order you can find that perfect outfit to wear at the country club barbecue or for cocktails at the yacht club or for a Harvard Club dinner. All kidding aside, this Vineyard Vines is big with loads of choices. Some of the items however are so over the top, that i'm really not certain who would wear them. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vineyard-vines-hingham?select=UB94brtj3tnkxCS9DZwpeQ#WMS17WXWHjYJo4LjvwVvIg In my opinion, the VV logo of the smiling whale is way too cutesy for clothing and looks ridiculous unless you're 3. I do however love a man in khakis, a button down Oxford shirt, and a navy blue blazer. The bow-tie can be ditched. There is a load of seer-sucker here which reminds me in such a great way of my dad in the summer. My biggest gripe with VV is that the prices are ridiculously high on most things. I'm not adverse to paying for quality but some of these clothes are unnecessarily priced in the stratosphere.

I was surprised to see that they offer Vuori clothing here. I thought that Vuori only sold at their own stores, so it was a pleasant surprise to see on their second floor! I was very intrigued by their electric bikes that were on display on the first floor, by their shoe selection. Cannot lie, was very tempted to get one just because they looked cool! Of course, have to do some research first haha. The vibe was very similar to an LL Bean store, I loved it! Looks like they have some decent sales in store, 20% off one full priced item & had many 30% discounted items.

Yesterday, I popped into Levi's a little past their opening time of 10am. I was in the market for a new pair of classic jeans having lost a few pounds recently and having gone down a size...(yay). When I entered there were no other customers in the store. There was a worker just standing by the door. I don't know his name but he has shoulder length wavy brown hair. He was doing nothing but standing there. There was a women behind the register counter folding clothes. No greeting from the long-haired guy idly standing by the door. I asked him about the type of jeans I was looking for. He said "We don't have them," I asked about another style. That style happened to be exactly where he had been standing so he grabbed a pair in the size I asked for. I asked about another style and he vaguely waved me over to the area where they were hanging. Off I went to try on the first pair. I had been in the store before so I knew where the dressing rooms were but he didn't know that and offered no assistance in pointing the dressing rooms out. While I liked the jeans, I did not like the color of that particular denim wash. I returned to the guy still unmoved and still standing idly by the door leaning on the rack of hanging jeans, and asked if it came in a different wash. He said there were several washes but he only had one other darker one in the store. The rest were available on line. He could have mentioned the other wash he had in stock when he handed me the first pair of jeans. But that would have required effort that it does not appear this guy has in him. This guy could not have been less interested in helping me. The second darker denim wash was what I wanted so I took those in my size and headed to the register. The young woman at the register was lovely and greeted me warmly. When she went to ring the jeans up, I noted that the darker wash jeans were more money than the pair I had tried on. I asked her about this. She said: "That's odd" and turned to the still idle long-haired guy for an answer. He bothered himself to walk over to the register to mansplain to me that "it is very common for different washes to come at different price points." Really?? He then said: "The company may have just decided that the darker wash should be more money." None of this sounded very convincing. I said: "Is there anyone who might know for sure who you could call to ask?" Apparently not because he just looked up the item in some book and confirmed that the darker wash jeans were the price on the tag and therefore more money. I did purchase the jeans but it was an unfortunate interaction. I had been in this same store about 3 weeks prior to this visit...again it was soon after the store opened and again with no other customers yet. The only worker that day was this same long-haired idle guy. At that visit too he was idly standing but at the register. Apparently nothing in this store needs folding, or straightening by him. During that visit I was just browsing but at no time did he ask me if I needed help. I walked out soon after, purchasing nothing. This guy seems like he is "phoning it in." Whether he is a salesperson, a manager or a wooden post for the Levi's corporation is unclear to me. What is clear is that he demonstrates zero customer service, zero friendliness and zero helpfulness and 100% bad attitude. Maybe I wasn't his hipster demographic and he couldn't be bothered. He comes across as bored and acted dismissively to me the customer. When I do need another pair of jeans I will take my business elsewhere. Who needs this nonsense when I am spending money and helping provide this guy with a job and salary? These experiences are the antithesis of the previous 5-star experience I wrote about here with different sales staff. Long-haired Idle dude: Find a job you like and are good at.
