Absolutely refuse to drive into this monstrous array of shops. People backing up without looking, people almost getting hit by cars that are walking in appropriate spaces, people cutting each other off, etc. Also have noticed that the majority of the stores have prices that are much higher than the same stores in different towns. If your claustrophobic or fear a car accident or getting hit by a car, I would stay away from this place. read more

No matter what day or time these area shops can provide a multitude of shops to choose from. Not only retail shops but choices for eating and enjoying the day here. A stroll around the large parking lot is a good way to see what stores are here and browse in each for something to purchase and bring home. The Whole Foods Market is definitely a huge treat for me to walk around then hit it last to find something to cook or snack or enjoy their most tastefully and expertly decorated baked items along with lots of breads to choose from. So Derby Street Shops is like a one stop shopping place. I like that and go home with everything I needed and wanted. read more

I can't give this popular outside shopping center another star because of the agita it causes me, trying to drive through to get near where I need to shop. That's on me, as I find the aggressive drivers that fly through here difficult to deal with- every day is the day before Christmas here! That being said, the store selection is nice with selections from the higher end Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel to the stalwart Kohl's, with Warby Parker and Barnes and Noble filling out the middle tier. The Whole Foods is probably one of the more irritating ones you can go to, but again, that's the clientele who seem to think that because they're at Whole Foods they should channel their inner Karen to come out and shop. On the other hand, if you get there on a weekday before they finish their derma fill session, you can score some really delicious take out food and right now, Halloween decor! I have a love-hate relationship with Derby Street Shops but I'm still there three times a week for one thing or another. Just remember, you don't have to run anyone over to park next to the stores, you can always park safely off to the side in the lots adjacent to the end of the buildings. read more

It's OK.... I guess. But, it's those old 1990s style "outlets" the 20th century building construction booms came up with to make cash fast off of corporate brands... only they no longer have discounted pricing like back in the day. They have a Sephora, but it's not exactly an outdoor mall. In order to get around, because walking isn't always safe, you often need to drive from one place to the other which wastes gasoline. It also seems to be extra bad in winter because it seems extra windy there in the winter months, and very cold. Honestly, I DO NOT understand the allure of shopping here. It makes more sense to drive 1 exit over to the Hanover Mall which has free benches, and air-conditioning as well as heated in the winter, and its easy to walk from place to place after walking, with excellent security, and very kid friendly... But, this place doesn't have that. It's also really strange that when I speak to people, locally, about whether they shop here or the mall more often they usually say here. But, when I ask them why, and point out all the issues with it, they seem perplexed because it's actually true, and they don't know why they shop HERE more often, and it makes no sense. read more

Baby shops, The Gap, Loft, Ann Taylor, Kohls, Banana Republic, Vineyard Vines, Chicos, Talbots, Sephora, Tesla, Lulu Lemon, Barnes and Noble, Rite Aid, Whole Foods, Legals, ice cream shops, the list goes on and on. Check the website for the most current shops. Plenty of parking, however it is an outside mall so you have to walk from place to place or drive your car close to each shop. I generally like this shopping area, as it contains a wide variety of stores. You don't have to be a baller to shop here. You don't have to be a baller to eat here. I usually come to visit Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, Banana Republic, occasionally Kohl's, REI, Barnes & Noble, and, yeah, Whole Foods. All of them are pretty decent for what they are. During the colder months, it can be a pain to traverse from one store to another but...that's what a winter coat is for, I suppose. The classical music background has a nice touch. Cracks me up, the hate for this place. I love when people hate on a place for being snobby. Um, you went there didn't you? You don't like to look at BMW's? Then don't look at them, you reverse-snob. Don't like the well-dressed folks with money to spend? Simple fix. Just take yourself to an indoor mall and shop among the Aeropostale crowd. I like this mall. I like that it's outdoors. I like the classical music. I like the landscaping. I like the shopping options (Crate & Barrel, Apple Store, Book Store, Francesca's etc. I like the dining options (Pinkberry, Chipotle, Panera, B. Good, Jasper White's). I also like that there are nice cars and beautiful people here. Anyone who says they don't is just jealous. read more

You can likely do all your returns in one trip to this plaza if you frequently purchase from Gap, Kohls, Banana, JCrew and WHBM. Best recommendation is to go early for the most enjoyable experience. Oh You Fancy Huh? You've got your classical music playing on the sidewalks... You've got your fancy cars in the parking lot. Let me tell you what you are.. you're just a smaller version of Legacy Place in Dedham with your nose up in the air. Al Fresco Shopping, call it what you want - you're an outdoor shopping plaza. I'm going to tell you why I'm a fan though. Unlike Legacy place.. You're not so big that I feel like I need to drive to the other side of the plaza. It's nice to take a stroll, then make a stop at Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream. I do enjoy coming to your Khols (yup, they have a HUGE khols - not so fancy now huh?) , GAP and Express. Really great restaurants to try and White's Pastry Shop. You even have a Whole Foods for some expensive grocery shopping.. I can't knock whole foods. I love their fruit and bread section. So, your snobby attitude aside.. you're very pretty to look at and to stroll around. read more

The Derby Street Shoppes is okay, nothing fantastic and I wouldn't write home about it. There's definitely some quality places in there that make the trip seem worth it, especially if you end up having dinner at either Rustic Kitchen or Burton's Grill (thumbs up to both). The area is kept nice, but it feels like more parking lot than 'shoppes' since it is essentially a ring of outdoor shopping with a centered parking lot, meaning you either have to walk across a decent sized parking lot or walk the entire circumference (I see what you did there DSS). Some of the stores themselves (Limited, Gap, American Eagle) seem very narrow, almost awkwardly narrow. Oh, and one more thing... I can 'yup' it with the best of them, but really the people that shop here go a step beyond having their noses in the air. Let me set one thing straight for you people, you aren't better than everyone else no matter how many pastel colors you have on and your little "shoppes" is anchored by a Khol's, KHOL'S!?! The Derby Street Shoppes have improved and gotten better..... however, it's still not exactly my cup of tea. Now, Derby Street does have some benefits, that I previously overlooked. Kohl's, Barnes & Noble, WholeFoods, Cold Stone, all great places to go to. The ambiance of the shopping center is fabulous as well, however, it's just not enough. Now, in comparison to Legacy Place, closer to where I live, they have a different variety of stores, but in some senses better and some worse. What the difference is, is that throughout the entire stretch of highway in Dedham holds the rest of the retail, here, this is it, which doesn't draw me down here ever. I drive distances to go exactly where I want, and it doesn't surprise me that Hingham isn't ever a place I even think of, being that there is very little around. Parking isn't an issue, but the variety of stores lacks considering that there isn't much surrounding this shopping center. Some of the stores (like Crate & Barrel and Barnes & Noble) are lackluster in comparison to other locations those companies have as well. Nice ambiance, but lots of work is needed to make this shopping center really thrive to its optimum capabilities. If you live in the area and are looking for a large selection of different stores, the Washington Street stretch of Hanover is good, and Braintree can be even better, with shopping centers every which way. 3 stars. read more

I'm not a mall walker, I'm a Derby Street stroller. I hate the claustrophobic atmosphere of malls- the kiosks with salespeople attacking you for simply walking past. Not so at Derby, an outdoor airy plaza- not a strip mall by any means - classical music playing in the background... serenity garden tucked away in the back. Only real downside is the parking lot situation; it is a suburban shopping heaven and the locals (and city-folk) know it, so it can get nuts on the weekends and around the holidays. read more

I really love the shopping plaza because they have a Mac store there. I can drop off my computer for maintenance and repair and have a slew of other wonderful stores to spend time in. I especially love Anthropologie. There is also some fairly nice restaurants to dine out at. read more

Simply put, it's nice to visit during the spring and summer when it's not cold and it's pleasant to walk around outside from store to store. If you know you need ONE item from ONE store, it makes sense to go there. But in January, do you really want to walk around? But the traffic and the parking situation is insane. Getting in and out is one total giant cluster@#$% !! Right-of-way, stop signs, and pedestrian crosswalks are all mere suggestions. And with the amount of high school kids driving mom and dad's old oversized SUVs is trouble just waiting to happen. Look once, look twice, look again, rinse, lather, and repeat. Don't come here on a Friday or Saturday night to shop -- you'll be trampled by throngs of high school girls (think "Mean Girls" style) as you walk along the sidewalks minding your own business. If you don't have comprehensive collision insurance on your car, or your life insurance isn't up to par, risk your life trying to cross the street at Legacy Place or the Plaza. read more

There are certain days that I refer to as "Derby Days": really sunny, happy days that you feel like shopping, but feel guilty spending such a beautiful day indoors at a mall. This is where Derby Street fits in. I like to start my Derby Day with some sushi at Whole Foods, then walk to the Paper Store, then off to Banana, Gap, Express, etc etc. By the time you reach Barnes and Noble, you've had a nice walk and have only seen half of what Derby Street offers! Plus: Rustic Kitchen and Burton's are good too, and who can resist Coldstone Creamery? The only thing that keeps me from giving Derby 5 stars is the parking: it can be crazy, especially on the aformentioned beautiful Derby Days. But, I've found that if you head to the "back" of the shops (near Barnes and Noble) you can find a spot much easier! read more

Lovely little outdoor shopping mall. A little out of the way if you live in Boston, but nice for a nice day. It looks like a sad little strip mall when you first drive in, but when you go to the back you will see about 50 more stores. This place has just about everything -- Apple store, Jasmine Sola, Express, Kohl's, some sit down restaurants, etc. Only real cons are that the parking is a pain and there aren't too many fast food places. read more

Remember the old days when people would go to ugly indoor monstrosities called malls to do their shopping? These new "Lifestyle Centers" as they've been called are a refreshing change to the traditional mall. It's nice to breathe actual fresh air and get actual sunlight on you when you're shop from store to store. great store selection here, along with nice options for eating, between high end sit down places to Chipotle. Classical music playing on the walkways. Very nice shopping experience here. Only problem is traffic flow in an out of the place, along with the parking. Ahh, the joys of yelping against amateurs. Parking? You ding an Apple Store because of parking in a great "outdoor" mall? That's like dinging a retail store in a mall because you came in at the opposite end of the mall. Makes no sense at all. This store is a huge improvement to many other Apple Stores AND location. Let's first remind people of my previous divots I've taken on Apple of Burlington and Apple of the South Shore Mall in Braintree, both sub par visits for me. Derby Street Apple Store, clean, friendly, easy to maneuver around and service is above and beyond. Specifically an employee named Dillon who followed up with me throught the process and then even got something to me in a difficult situation. I went to have my sons computer repaired. Repair was diagnosed and a cost associated with that cost. When the estimate came in slightly higher (and I mean $20 more) Dillon called to confirm my desire to continue with the repair. Knowing my situation, Dillon made the repair and went above and beyond to have the computer in my hands ASAP. I have two more mini Ipads to purchase and I'll tell you... this is the Apple Store I'll buy them from. All you that bash this store because of parking or... you don't like Burton's Grille for eating after your Apple visit... need to work through your Mommy issues. read more

The stores are fine. If I feel overwhelmed by a price tag, I go elsewhere. Not everyone there is of the "Even my underwear uis awesome" crowd. I do now have a better understanding of why some people tend to have a 'tude about this place... and she drives an Escalade. This certain indidivual almost mowed me down the other day while I was crossing to drop some bags off in my car (I was in the middle of a crosswalk, with every other car in sight stopped to let me go, clearly I was in the wrong here). She actually ended up in the same store I went to afterward - entering a whole 10 seconds before I did (thank god she managed to whip into that parking space so fast). Maybe to finish the job of running me down on foot? Nah. This bird was the most neurotic, self-absorbed person I have ever seen. She actually made me feel as twitchy as she was acting. While I have run into my share of "slightly holier than thou" in my time, however, I can report that she is a fairly rare example. read more

Screw the hate towards this place. Yes, it's Hingham. Yes, Hingham can be snobby. Yes, it's a shopping plaza- and parking can be crazy, espcially when you drive a 2002 Honda Civic and don't want to hit a 2010 Mercedes SUV that's taking up two spots in an already overcrowded lot- but the quality of the stores here makes it worth it. They have Banana, Gap, Express, American Eagle, Victoria's Secret and Ann Taylor Loft all the way to White House, Black Market, Talbot's, Ann Taylor, and Coldwater Creek. There's also a Kohl's, REI, and Barnes and Noble as well as a really great Apple Store. I can't really complain about the stores here. If you've never been, it's worth a trip. If you're going on a weekend, I'd plan on getting there early or later in the afternoon, avoiding the mid-morning rush. If you're planning on going during the holiday season- deal with it. It's going to be crowded. read more

2.5 stars where to begin well i am not going to say that i dont appreciate the draw of an outside shopping plaza, but while i had to watch jr. and we had to go to the south shore for mer, this is where i landed up for a few hours. in the time i was there i observed: 1) there isnt really any diversity at the derby st shoppes (i think the fact they used two p's and an e in shoppes was a give-a-way) 2) j.jill is quite the draw, so much so its worth it to run in front of a moving vehicle in order to get there quicker 3) the buck in the barnes and noble is a fair substitute for a real starbucks. 4) wheeling a stroller is not fun when you need to open doors, especially when the people around you are so self absorbed they dont notice you have a 30 pound 4 wheeled device! 5)speaking of which, toting around my little dude, one couple enjoying their time on the patio of some business, OOOOOoHHHhhh *squealing with delight* look at that handsome stroller (not baby, which is what i was thinking most people say in these instances) so, if you live in this area, i guess this is nothing surprising, but as a destination? well dont you have a gap where you live already? read more

A pain in the a** Parking and prices are painful. Not a whole lot of value for the money being offered here, however if you like hanging with the "Ladies who lunch" crowd from Hingham and Cohasset who frequent this glorified strip mall more power to you. The south shore is woefully under served by better quality retail stores, so there was a huge amount of pent up demand for something better for the people who loathed the hassles of shopping in downtown Boston with $26.00 parking fees added to the cost of the shopping. I know they were trying to get a feeling of an upscale village square shopping experience, but with the central parking lot ringed by the stores, they botched the design of this place badly. Other new designs for outdoor shopping centers cluster the stores on the inside, with the parking ringing the outside, and successfully pull off the "town square" feeling that these architects got ass-backwards, too bad. There are some good quality merchants here, with a few things like Kohl's and a chain drug store that seem out of place. I give this place 2 stars for lack of men's stores, poor design and parking, and a layout that forces you to either dodge moving cars in the parking lot, or walk half mile laps around the place on the sidewalk. I think the guy who drew this place up on his drafting table is the same guy that that designs the the on ramps for major highways BEFORE the off ramps and forces the incoming and outgoing cars to weave through each other all day. I'm bewildered as to how anyone actually finds this place "charming" but some people do. If you really want to feel the rush of spending money, order a 2 cocktails at Rustic Kitchen, you didn't know you just spent almost $40.00 with tip until your check arrives. $17.00 for a Cosmo and the same for Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks is a little steep for the waitstaff to peddle, so they don't mention drink prices. Stupid me for not guessing, eh? Todd English has to make those payments on his private jet somehow I suppose. read more

I enjoy going to Derby. There's many shops for many people. They offer Burgers at BGoods, burritos at Chipotle, Icecream and Froyo (Cold Stone and Pink Berry), and even a grocery store. Claire's and Khols as well as several other outlet shops are there. There is an enormous Barnes and Nobles with every book imaginable. I also enjoy White's Bakery, GameStop, Panera, and Burton's. Whether you're shopping or bored and want to look around while listening to classical music, Derby is a great place to be. read more

Most of these reviews are dead on. But honestly when I am out on a mindless window "shopping" spree (aka: I just got back from vacation. I've got noooo money) with my sisters I don't care that is this place looks like a little snotty. It was a warm sunny end of July Sunday and it made things seems so relaxing and calm. I didn't have a problem finding parking next to whole foods and panera, had to walk a little, but thats okay I've got legs. I didn't spend a dime while I was there but I still had a good time walking around and going into the shops. And out of all the shops we went into the only one with a 'tude was a cosmetic store. They sold Fresh, Laura Mercier, Trish McEvoy, and a few others. Of course there weren't any price tags in plain sight. Why would there be? Must be working out for you since there didn't seem to be much customer flow in the door. But Snotty ladies at the cosmetic store that ignored us, sorry to burst your bubble but Nordstrom sells the same products and has their prices clearly marked. read more

Went for the first time yesterday. I like the concept and the nice assortment of shops. It was a nice day to sit outside with a cup of coffee/tea, but there were not enough benches/chairs. The parking lot was a little disruptive as they were updating the crossing areas for pedestrians. I will say that down by Whole Foods you take your life in your hands whether walking or driving. The people are so impatient and don't understand stop signs. A nice assortment of stores to choose from as my friend and I walked along. We stopped at a few that we have never been in before. Lots of good customer service in each shop. Had lunch at Burton's. A little pricey, but the food is very good. I will return as there are a few other places I would like to try. read more

I was corrected once at Derby Street for calling it a outdoor shopping mall. They said it was a lifestyle plaza. It was funny at the time but having spent the amount of time I have here I kind of get it. Derby Street cannot be accessed by public transportation so the shopping population usually are there with purpose. Parking is usually plentiful but shy away from the place during holidays, plus having only 2 main entrances/exits tend to cause traffic jams. The small touches like the gardens & outdoor tables are nice. There is a good selection of stores for much everything you need. I do wish there were a few more food choices but that's does not take too much away from the plaza. read more

Let's start with the Apple Store and Barnes and Nobles. That in itself is enough to get me to visit over and over again. Now let's get to the parking or the lack there of. Always difficult finding a place to park here and forget if you have a bad back and need to park close to the Apple Store to bring in a computer for repair. As like all the other shopping plazas that have been popping up in towns like Canton and Plymouth, Derby Street Shoppes has a nice charm to it. It has that small town, friendly feel yet with chic, city style. The best part is that it has a lot of the stores I go to, so it's not like I'm driving there just for one store. Women's clothing stores include Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret, Gap, J. Crew, Express, Ann Taylor Loft, White House Black Market, and Jasmine Sola...then there's also Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, and The Paper Store. If you need a little energy boost while you're shopping, you can head over to White's bakery for something sweet. OK, I guess I don't have to give you the store directory since it's on the website. But I also have to mention the Whole Foods. I was so spoiled when I used to live in Newton where I had Stop & Shop, Shaw's, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Russo's all within 10 minutes of me. Three out of five isn't so bad for living in soburbia (south of Boston suburbia) and Trader Joe's in Hanover isn't too far away. Aight, this review isn't about supermarkets... It can get congested on the weekends during the day, but it's really not that bad (at least from my experience). I tend to go later in the day or on weekdays and I always end up parking right in front of the store I am heading to. DSS is a great alternative to the madness at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree as I find myself going to there more often. read more

I was in the neighborhood and needed to go to kohls when I stumbled upon derby street shops. I was expecting it to be a short stop to kohls until I pulled into their parking lot. I was very pleasantly surprised to see such a charming outdoor shopping center. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon so I spent a few hours browsing the shops. They have a great mix of high quality clothing stores, food places and a grocery store (whole foods). Most of the shops are a little expensive but nothing outrageous. Of course kohls is a great option for those of us who like to spend wisely. I live about 30 minutes away but would happily return on a warm day to walk around the mall. It sure is a pretty place. I love the Derby Street Shoppes as there is so much there. It duplicates the feeling of a quint downtown. Parking can be difficult at times but there seems to always be someone pulling out. I use the guest shuttle a lot so that I only park once. The variety of shoppes and restaurants means you can find just about anything there; and now they've added a boccie court and an ice skating rink the are becoming a Norman Rockwell meets the 2008 tele-commuter. read more

The Paper Store is one of my favorite stores around this area. One time i got the fuzziest slippers there and they were so cozy!

I love coming to the whole foods at this location. I have had great experiences at different whole foods, is especially love the one in Dedham, but this location is convenient to do all of your other shopping plus pick up the groceries. This is a very nice out door mall. It has assorted of different shops that I enjoyed going in. I find it very odd that in a climate as such and the horrible winters, they would consider building a shopping area that's out doors. The weather was awesome the day I was there and plenty of parking space. My favorite shops were Whole Foods, White Bakery and they had very nice Kohl's. I came across this cute shopping area by chance, I must come back and try White Bakery, their pastries looked delicious. read more
