Do not believe the hype. It's morning, they're already out of pastries, standing room only or you get to sit on the patio in 40 some degree weather. Totally not worth it. WOW! never have i fallen in love with a place like i have with Koffeteria! i've raved about it now to probably everyone in my life. when you first walk in, you are greeted with a variety of fresh unique pastries. these pastries are the type where they make you want to try the whole menu! the employees are super upbeat and inviting. i got a tiger uppercut which is a thai tea with espresso- it was good, but id probably go for something a little sweeter next time like the ube drink they have. i also got the pistachio baklava croissant - WOW AGAIN, it was so delicious, perfect amount of sweetness and crunch. the pistachio added a nice balance to the super sweet sugar soaked croissant and the croissant stayed crunchy as well for a while. i also got a chinese sausage taco to go and that was amazing. it had a perfect balance of spicy from the their papaya pico and a sweet chinese sausage. the eggs added to the savory taste and all of it blended perfectly together. i'll never stop raving about this spot!! read more

Guy behind the counter was a douchebag. First time visitor, came with the pup for the big outdoor patio area. Went inside to order and was immediately stopped and told the dog wasn't allowed in the building. I went outside and there was an employee that offered to hold my dogs leash while I ordered quickly. I went back in and the same douche said "you could have just tied your dog up." I brought a retractable leash that doesn't tie well, and the employee offered to hold him, so I just ignored him and proceeded to order. After my order was complete, he came at me again and said "so the next time you come, just remember there are no dogs in the building." I said, "I heard you the first time." And he responded with "well I can't have my dishwasher holding your dog." Outdoor area is cool, my $7 sausage egg and cheese was decent, the sweets in the case looked good. I was a little skeptical before trying this fusion cafe because of the reviews I read and what I assume to be challenging integration of Asian ingredients. My doubt was dispelled in this first visit, Houston's own Chef Kuch, child of Cambodian refugees, possesses the sensibility and talent of skillfully incorporating Asian flavors into his creative menu. The Salty Cambodian is a latte with sweetened condensed milk, housemade sourdough butter, with Maldon salt sprinkled on top. I'm so glad it's not overly sweet. It tastes like a less intense CaPhe SuaDa with salted caramel, which I like because I can taste the complexity without overwhelmed by the strong Robusta Vietnamese Coffee. Mazapandan is a vegan drink made with Mazapan (peanut marzipan), pandan, Little Dreamer coffee, and almond milk served over ice. I thought the Pandan is mixed into the drink just right, a refreshing cold drink that is again not too sweet. I like the Breakfast Taco very much, Chinese sausage with light fluffy eggs, topped with green mango & papaya pico, served on a seared half corn/half flour tortilla. It's deceptively simple, yet tastes so good, wrapped in a tortilla I find to be exceptional. Cambodian Beef Quiche is also a winner, fluffy egg custard with beef fried in garlic, kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, and mixed with chopped peanuts. I was worried that how could this work, but it does, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how well different elements come together wonderfully. I'm impressed by the Chef. He has the talent and skill of integrating Asian taste profiles into his menu that focuses on locally and seasonally sourced ingredients. I appreciate Chef who has the sensibility of creating balanced and harmonious flavors, which is my preference for food. Watch out of Chef Kuch, if he stays in Houston and develops a full dining menu, it will be something that I look forward to. Koffeteria is a cool laid-back cafe with a huge patio that's perfect for pet owners and people who enjoy Sunshine and open spaces. I wish it's closer to us so I can go back more often. read more

I was very confused because the Salty Cambodian and Maza Pandan sounded like food so I didn't order it and just got a cold brew. Then upon a second glance I realized they were drinks! Indoor seating is closed right now, due to the small shop not having enough space for social-distancing. However, there is plenty of outdoor seating and guests are still allowed to use the restroom. First of all the service was great, we were greeted with a big smile and an even bigger welcoming. It's a cool little spot if you need to grab some coffee and amazing pastries on the go in which we did since we were leaving the Houston area. My wife and I shared the ham and cheese croissant and the pistachio baklava croissant both of which were incredible choices. The outside was crispy with every bite then the inside was so fluffy and buttery on the ham and cheese and then there was the Pistachio Baklava Croissant, as soon as you tear it apart to get into the inside, there's the honey just dripping with golden goodness, absolutely delicious! On top of all that, you have the roasted pistachios. This was a deceptive pastry, you don't see the honey until you break it apart. The outside texture just made it that much better, crunchy bite after bite. Possibly my favorite pastry spot outside I've ever visited. I didn't know what to expect with a tea and coffee combination... but it was fantastic!!! 10/10 Not only did it taste good but the espresso did in fact energize me as well. I also went ahead and ordered the beef pho kolache and the breakfast taco. The beef pho is a very interesting creation and does taste exactly like the pho broth. 8.5/10 The breakfast taco was a bit flavorless and broke a little to easy. 6/10 My experience would advise you to 100% try the drinks and only try the food if you're in the mood for something new. This place is for when you want to go to a cozy study-hard coffee shop but you also want to eat/drink experimental mainly East Asian fusion ideas instead of standard coffee shop fare. Some of the fusion experiments don't turn out so well (Chinese tacos slathered in sweet and sour sauce, bleh), but most are fantastic (mochi salted egg pastry), so it's usually worth trying. Regular drip coffee is good too if you want to keep it basic. Only downside is that there's no free parking, only paid street parking in a totally deserted streetscape. Also limited table seating indoors, though more bar/counter seating. Lots of outdoor seating but I really don't know in what season of Houston working at a laptop outside is tenable. You can either cook in the spring/summer or be eaten by bugs in the fall. I guess if you find a warm, dry day in winter. They do have a tent over the outdoor seating to help with rain/sun glare. read more

I love their art and decor. Unique options that are better than typical boring Starbucks stuff. The lines move quick and you'll be on your way in no time. Very cute spot tucked away next to Truck Yard. Place is very clean and crisp. Service was extremely friendly. I experienced them on two separate occasions, once was a very packed Sunday morning. Even so they were good at getting people out quickly. The second time I went right at opening so it was a bit more chill. Ordered a ham and cheese croissant and fell in love. She didn't ask if the dog was a service animal ? He wasn't bothering anyone or barking he just was standing there next to me. So I asked her how was I supposed to order she told me someone would come out back to take my order. That was frustrating because I had to wait until there was no one at the counter inside to server before she came to get my order which took a while. Flat white was ok, and iced vanillla latte was weak and watered-down with no vanilla taste. French onion croissant was nice and flakey. Employee recommended the lort cha since I said I was hungry, and that would have been ok if it wasn't drowned in sauce. I had to drain a big pool of it out just to taste the noodles and sausage. The only thing was I guess there was a new barista & I paid with my card then ask where the tip jar was. The lady behind said no tip jar card only. The obviously new barista brought me my silverware so I gave him $3. I could hear her tell him it would mess up how they split tips and what not. I used to work as a bartender so I don't see how cash tips is a bad thing. Maybe it's a barista thing. I felt kinda bad because i could hear the conversation. Nice bakery/coffee shop in the EaDo area. Their "spring roll" is similar to a fruit kolache with strawberry, lemon, and cream cheese. It's better than any fruit kolache I've ever had! I also got their Mazapandan which is a drink with peanut marzipan and pandan, absolutely delicious! Their customer service is also really good. Their website incorrectly stated that they could add hazelnut to their lattes, but the employee said that they don't have hazelnut. I showed them the mistake on their website, and they thanked me for bringing it to their attention. A lot of people get upset when others make them aware of a mistake. I'm happy that this place is open to feedback. Prices are a little high for the baked goods, but considering that it's next to downtown in an expensive area, the prices are understandable. read more

They did a great job with the looks and feel of this café, especially in the back yard. The service was fine and the coffees ok, but the food was another matter. I should have known from the unappetizing look of the pastries, which looked burned and crudely made. The taro and egg taro taco, though it lacked taste, was edible , but the Chinese sausage taco was so gross we couldn't even finish it. It was greasy and totally off-putting. Big disappointment. I came here once after I found out it was Cambodian owned and tried their "beef pho kolache". My first thought was "wtf, this should be interesting" surprisingly, it was pretty good! Came out super hot and you could taste a little bit of the pho flavor in the kolache. I also ordered their "Salty Cambodian" ayy, Khmer pride haha, but it was good. It had a nice balance to it with the saltiness and sweetness together. I need to try their hot Cheeto kolache next time...I heard it was good. Koffeteria is a super cute and dainty coffee shop located amidst other warehouses in the EaDo area. My friend and I were coming from near the George R. Brown convention center - we were on Yelp looking for a coffee shop to kill time at and Koffeteria was within close proximity from us. My friend ordered an ice coffee with pistachio baklava croissant (which is HUGE). I ordered a flat white, which was served to me in a beautiful gold-rimmed opaque cappuccino cup. Everything was delicious... especially the croissant. They make their baked goods in house, so you can bet it's really fresh. The coffee tastes really great, and I can tell that the baristas here know what they're doing. The service is amazing, which definitely added positivity to our experience. The servers were so friendly and very helpful. When we walked in, which was on a Saturday around 1pm, there wasn't anyone here. But as soon as we ordered and found seats, crowds poured in. It was quite a trendsetting moment for us. They have on soulful mid-1900s grooves (think Etta James, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye etc.) to bless your ears with as you sip your coffee and enjoy their delicious pastries. The interior of Koffeteria has a super charming mediterranean vibe with a modern/artsy twist. Walls are crisp white and well-lit yet feels welcoming with warm toned lamps and natural lighting through the windows. There may not be a lot of seating indoors but they have a shared outdoor patio (with the other businesses in the same area) that offers plenty of space under the sun on a beautiful day. The parking wasn't bad for us - you can find spots along the street, but I can imagine how it may be difficult on a busy day. The bathrooms are beautiful and super clean too. Let's play a quick game of F, marry, and kill. F- The cream cheese bread pudding was super tasty. Perfectly sweet and dense. It was served cold, which seemed odd, but nonetheless it was tasty. Marry- Bahn Mi Kolache was BOMB!!! It was served hot with fresh pickled veggies and it was amazing. I need another one ASAP. Kill- The chocolate croissant started out nice. It was flakey and sweet. However, about half way in the flakey turned to plain crunchy and the sweet turned into salt. Seriously... the outer layer was crazy salty. It was not what I was expecting in a croissant. Do yourself a favor and put this place at the top of your list for your weekend brunch. Everything sweet or savory that we ate here was best in class - and we were so hungry for our pastries we forgot to that any pictures! The egg custard pastry was so perfectly cringy - and that nice grit from the cinnamon sugar coating coupled with the silky smooth custard will immediately take you to food nirvana!!! The cinnamon roll was also absolutely delicious. But hands-down my favorite thing was the After Shift sandwich. This is such a next-level amazing take on a hot chicken sandwich. I never would have thought to use chili oil for the spice - and the nice balance of brine from the pickle, and texture from the focaccia really make this sandwich a special one.
