I had heard that these are some of the best wings in the city and I can happily report that they indeed are some of, if not THE best wings in DC. Both the wings and drumsticks are massive, so you will be getting plenty of chicken no matter the portion size you choose. The three sauces are also great, with the Hot Honey Spicy being my favorite. The Soy Garlic is also great, with it having a nice General T'so's flavor. My only "complaint" is that they had more flavor options, but the three that they do have are absolutely solid. I've been to KoChix twice - once for a mix of soy garlic and honey spicy drumsticks, and once during Covid for honey spicy boneless wings and mozzarella sticks. Everything has been really good! Honey spicy isn't super hot but does have plenty of flavor, and soy garlic is great, too. I'd been hoping for boneless wings, and they have them now - big chunks of white meat that are lightly coated and fried. It's hard to mess up mozzarella sticks, but they didn't, which is great! Their Covid policy is that they don't take walk-up orders - you have to call ahead or order online, so be sure to do that. It's very small inside, and there's nowhere to sit, pandemic aside. Okay, these are the some of the best wings I've ever had in terms of everything (quality, price, speed, taste after reheating). I ordered for pick up and it was ready in ten minutes. The store is pretty small but the food is made efficiently. Once I brought it back home and marveled at the size of each piece, I went to town and downed it within 15 mins. The chicken meat was tasty and big, while the crispy, fried skin was lathered with soy garlic sauce. I had a problem (hungry) and it provided a great solution (destroyed that hunger). Super Bowl Sunday - and I decided to try this place. I must've been out of my mind. But they had pre-order options, so I chose 5:30p 20 drumsticks and an order of boneless wings. Got soy garlic and honey mild (you can do 1/2 n 1/2 boxes). No delivery on Sunday (they're usually closed), so I went to pick up my order. They texted that it was being prepared at 5:15pm. This tiny hole in the wall in absolutely nothing to look at. It reminds me of one of those frightening Georgia Ave places with bullet proof glass. The place is bathed in the smell of fried stuff. Wow. The trio of cooks behind this medium sized wall was positively working their tails off. About 20 people were packed in a teeny space - all waiting for orders. All had called theirs in, too. Hmmm...At one point, the guy at the register asked and re-asked about my order, like he could t find it. I showed him the text I received from it and my order confirmation. And then - he found it. At about 5:55pm, my name was finally called. They apologized for the delay, and off I went. Our Steelers crowd devoured the tasty, juicy, crunchy chicken. Not sure which sauce was the best. We loved it all. The chicken doesn't travel that well - so make sure you drive quickly or a delivery service delivers directly to you! This is the closest and most affordable place in this area for Korean Fried Chicken (KFC)! I always get the spicy hot honey/soy garlic flavors and their fries -- perfectly done and not too thick. I was greeted by a Korean ajjuhmah, so you know it's legit. And if you miss Chicken Express (like I do), their corn nuggets are a pretty solid dupe! But the problem with Korean fried chicken, to date, has been the fact that all the Bonchons are located in Virginia. For someone without a car, I have been at the mercy of my few friends with cars to satiate my chicken craving. Since discovering Caviar and KoChix, we had KoChix rescue a Chinese Lunar New Year's party when our soup base failed disastrously. We had more than thirty people at a party, so the chicken was much needed. We had KoChix for good ol' pig-out sessions with the beer flowing. I LOVE BonChon so when I saw this place I had to check it out. It is a simple little hole in the wall owned by a cute South Korean couple. I ordered 5 hot spicy honey and 10 soy garlic and the lady said with such a nice smile "sure!" She handed me my order 10 minutes later which I later discovered she gave me 5 honey spicy and 5 hot honey spicy. Doesn't even matter! She was too darn cute to be mad! On my personal heat scale of 1-5: Bonchon soy garlic=0 Honey spicy =1.5 Hot honey spicy=3.5 Bonchon spicy=5 The wings were good and just as crispy as I had hoped, but if you are a spicy lover don't expect them to be as hot as Bonchon. A group of friends and I came here one evening, having walked all the way here from Logan Circle. The space is small, it barely fit the four of us but they were welcoming and after placing the order we waited. The combo order of both the soy garlic and the honey spicy were both good. I have to say that I liked the soy garlic a little better because the spicy honey was a little on the sweet side for me, still tasty, just not my style. We also got the yaki mandoo as well which were piping hot. The service here was terrific and the guy behind the counter was extra friendly, gave one of my friends directions and walking advice was generally just plain nice and even gave us a few extra wings. These are great wings. Probably the crispiest I've ever had. We opted for the Honey Spicy which was just the right balance of sweet and spicy. The meat is very moist and tender and plays nicely on the palate. The batter of the wings tastes a bit different than your standard wing. Think the taste of cornstarch or perhaps arrowroot. It's good, just different. This is a fast food type establishment. There are no seats. So this is what all the hype is about! I live in Maryland and I am surrounded by a chain called Bonchon, but I have never actually been. Everyone talks about how amazing it is and how it's the best Korean fried chicken... but once I started working in DC, my coworkers told me that this place is even better than Bonchon. I was fed up hearing about how good these places were, so I decided to finally check this place out. It is located at the intersection of Rhode Island Ave & Florida Ave. It is your typical city street corner carry-out place. The interior is very clean, the space is small, and the only decor includes a windowsill plant and a framed picture of a newspaper article about KoChix. The highlight of the menu seems to be their wings, but that's not all they have. Some other things they have include subs, fries, fried clams, and mozzarella sticks. There are three flavors of wings to choose from: Soy Garlic, Honey Spicy, and Hot Honey Spicy. After being happily greeted by the man at the register, he told me the "Hot" has a kick to it, but if I want they can make them even hotter. While I do love hot wings, I decided to just go with the regular amount of spiciness that it had... I ordered 20 wings; 10 honey spicy and 10 hot honey spicy. It came to about $26 when tax was included. The man said it would take about 7-10 minutes, and my order was indeed done in that time frame, if not sooner! I decided to taste one before leaving the place... The crispiness, the flavor, and the temperature were outstanding!! It was definitely a style of fried chicken I had never had before... and the wings were super meaty! My friend and family enjoyed them as well. I will definitely be returning for more. Just a couple of things to note... it is a 10 minute walk from the closest metro station, which is Shaw-Howard University. Also, there are no more than three stools in there. I typically order the ginger chicken as well as the sweet and sour (and I'd still order it). I've noticed how big and juicy their chicken is, which has made me speculate whether it's GMO or not. My Monday night dinner buddy and I stumbled upon KoChix, a famous Korean dive in between Bloomingdale and Shaw. It's not super Metro accessible (20 minute walk up Florida Avenue from the Noma Metro), but if you're in the area, stop by. It's a small shop with only three window seats so most people do take out. Of course, they specialize in chicken wings and three different sauces (hot honey spicy. garlic soy and one other that I forget). My buddy got the hot honey spicy and loved it. He ordered 10 and it was filling. Since I still can't get over my childhood fear of meat on the bone, I ordered the bulgogi. Out of all the bulgogi, I've had in DC, this was the most unique. It didn't quite taste like bulgogi, but it still was very tasty. It reminded me of a cross between Korean and Chinese food. The sauce they put on the meat enhanced the flavor. First off, these were some of the best chicken wings I've ever had. I had the 5 piece wings in hot honey sauce with onion rings and it was delicious! Service was quick and friendly, but note that there's minimal seating so it's more of a takeout place. Food was ready in less than 10 minutes! Wings- They are huge! I live about a ten minute walk to the restaurant and they were still hot once I made it home, not to mention crispy. I found the sauce to be very unique, but in a good way. Wings get a 5/5 from me. I will definitely be back. Onion rings- Less enthusiastic about these.. got them on a whim because I was craving onion rings and they were okay, not too average, and seemed like they were breaded in panko if I'm not mistaken. They were good nonetheless, and the portion was huge. 4 out of 5 stars because I found it weird that a side order of onion rings would cost more than an entree of wings.. but they were a bit expensive. This is my favorite hole-in-the-wall for Korean chicken wings. It's a very small space with barely any seating (maybe 3-4 people can fit at the counter) so try to do take-out if you can! The wings are so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside-- 10/10 for texture and flavor! I always get soy garlic sauce and half honey spicy sauce. For some reason, I always think that I NEED ten wings... but they're so meaty that I usually get full after about 5 (these surprisingly heat up well as a midnight snack though lol so order more if you want). read more

This place is on a corner away from all the tourist and crowds. It gives off a little sketchy vibe with the barred on the windows and gates for the front door. Once you go in, its a little warm (temperature wise) to sit inside to eat with only 2 seats only there, I know why most people get this delivered via Caviar. The actual wings are average pricing. The wing itself are abnormally large. I think for some it amazing but the drumstick of the wing looks like a normal drumstick. The batter is really thick so if you like breaded wings then this is your place. On the order of the wings, it was split between spicy honey garlic and soy garlic. Both had a sweetness to them from either corn syrup or honey that adds that instant shine to a sauce. The spicy one is has quite a kick. I wish both had more garlic in their sauce though because it was just a little sweet for me. I suggest maybe order for take out and go. There aren't any where to sit outside either. It would be nice if they had wet naps or something cause the sauce was drippin every where. It was alright. If you're looking for a joint with the thin crispy fried batter layered over the chicken, this isn't for you. This is the OG style of Korean fried chicken from the early/mid 90's. The thicker fried batter wraps around the chicken and dripped with sticky and sweet sauce. Do NOT expect the same kind of Korean fried chicken that you think you know if you've only had BonChon or KyoChon! Because that's a more "new-age" version of KFC. If you remember and long for the nostalgia of old school KFC, look no further than KoChix. Personally, it brings me back to the early 90's when I would get KFC take out from the mom and pop shops of Seoul with my grandma and enjoy the savory treat with Korean cider together... Once again another place I had bookmarked for a long time but never got around to going to. Located on the corner of 4th Avenue and Florida Avenue it is in an area seeing a resurgence that is bordered by Howard and Shaw Universities. A very short walk to Shaw-Howard University Station. If take out is your thing this place is for you. There are no tables and just a few stools to sit on while you wait. The wait is not long and on this visit the employee (Karen) allowed me to get a sampling of all three wing flavors in an order. The choices of wing flavors are soy garlic, hot honey, and hot honey spicy. For me personally I did not find any of the flavors very hot as far as spice. No little wings here as it seems you get more flats than drumsticks. No complaint as it was all good. The best way to eat this food as with any is as soon as possible. It is great still even when you warm it back up but you lose a bit of the crispiness when you wait to have it later. My personal favorite was the soy garlic. The tangy taste of the soy mixed with the garlic was a good combination for my taste buds. KoChix has a variety of food. If you are looking for more traditional Korean fare they have bulgogi and bibimbap on the menu. In fact, if you can think of it is on the menu. Parking is available on the street for free and on a busy Saturday afternoon I was able to find a spot very quickly next to the store. read more
