NOT HONEST LIKE THEY CLAIM!!!!! Took my car here for the first time for an old change and a check engine light yesterday. Not once was a price quoted for the check engine scan, but I assumed there would be a fee. When the guy called to tell me what was wrong with it, he gave me the total to fix it (with scan). I told him not at this time since he said it wasn't major and it was $290. He failed to mention I still had to pay for the scan ($160) or how much it was. (If he would have told me most of that cost was for the scan, I would have just payed the extra $110 to get the service done!) He said someone would let me know when my oil change was done. No one ever called to let me know my car was finished. When I picked it up they were locking it up inside for closing! Total for an oil change was $276! I called today BEFORE writing a bad review to let them know I wasn't happy and the guy that took my car was an absolute JERK to me! He just gave me sarcastic remarks about having to make $. I asked him If he didn't think he should disclose all information to a customer and he said no because it's all written on the wall behind him?!! I told him it would have been nice to know the price upfront,(considering there was a Midas next door were I would have payed less than half that) then the jerk just hung up on me!! I dropped off my SUV two days ago to have several things looked at and fixed, the major one being the AC was not working, I wondered about a parasitic battery drain, needed a rear wiper blade replaced and wanted fluid levels flushed if needed. The pairing of my recently replaced tire sensors they said they couldnt do at their shop. The ONLY other thing I knew I would EVENTUALLY need was front end struts/bushings, based on another shop recommending it who did an oil change for me a few months back. Otherwise my SUV was running fine. This shop was recommended to me by my daughter. What a nightmare! I show up to pick up my car all excited to have it in good working order, then I get into my vehicle to leave and turn it on. IMMEDIATELY there is this banging in the dash which sounded like a fist pounding on the dash. I go in to find out what the heck was going on with my car and the owner John Kobar ACCUSED ME OF LYING! He walked away from me and shut a door in my face which I opened to the garage and confronted him. He says, "Are you telling me that wasn't there all the time?" I emphatically said "NO IT WAS NOT!" He then tells me he can fix it for a fee. I was like "Are you kidding me? I bring a car to you without this problem and pick it up WITH a new problem and YOU WANT TO BILL ME FOR A PROBLEM YOU CREATED?!" He turned his back on me and ignored me. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TREATED SO POORLY BY ANYONE! HOW DARE YOU PEOPLE TALK TO AND TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE THAT! As a side note I have a Bachelors Degree in Retail Management. I was hoping to give you glowing reviews. I would FIRE any of my employees for speaking to customers like that! I encourage EVERYONE to look elsewhere for their automotive repair needs!! My car was broken into so my wife's aunt goes to Kobar and recommended them so I had my vehicle towed there and so they fixed my steering column and also replaced my passenger window and that's where the problem began, they replaced the window and left all the broken glass in the panel of the door which doesn't make sense cause now I can't put my window down! When I call John he tells me that he did the work and that I should vacuum out the broken glass cause his vacuum w as a full, so then needless to say I bring it back the following Monday due to it being the Thanksgiving weekend but when I get there John sends out a mechanic to I guess intimidate me and tell me that he'll take the panel off and for me to get some friends to sit there in like monkeys and take the glass out and when I tell him that John did the work and we told me that the vacuum was full he responded with they don't have a small enough piece that would fit so he's not doing it! The window cost me 1,000 to replace cause after all that I look at the bill and they charged me to replace a window and fix a window which makes no sense!! To take advantage of someone after they had their car stolen & damaged is just unprofessional! The steering column work was done immaculately to be honest but the price and shooty window work just doesn't sit rite with me, so now I gotta get a place to take the panel out and vacuum it out correctly. My car was broken into, and the side window was broken out when it happened. We took the car here for repair on the steering column ONLY!!! We found out through a third party that the window had been repaired as well (before asking the cust). Initially, we were ok with it being one less step we had to go through for repair. WRONG!!!! how does a company put a new window in the door when there is still so much broken glass inside the door still!!!! We called Jon, who is not friendly at all and very argumentive about that's just the way it is!!! He recommended we take the panel off ourselves and get the glass out!!!!! WOW, great customer service. We do not have the means to do this ourselves and furthermore for 3600 that should have been done correctly he first time!!! We can see where the shards of glass are scratching the new glass he put in!!! My husband went back asking for it to be rectified just for Jon to offer to remove the door panel, but we can clean glass ourselves!!!!! I have never paid so much and been treated so poorly!!! Be careful. took my old Lexus for transmission oil leak. Upon their suggestion, replaced power pump, rack and pinion and bushes....paid more than $2k. Before making the payment, I took the car for test drive and complained the tight steering wheel. They simply said, it will go away. The issue became worse in next few days and when we couldn't move the steering wheel while driving or reversing. Took it back to them, they said oh, the pump is leaking to my utter dismay. When I asked they simply said, it happens with after market product and changed free of cost to me. Again, next day, the check engine sign came. They simply said, oh old car, so a plug need to be replaced for one valve, and I paid $260. Now, I when I drive and I put brake, it misfires. Now, you decide, would you reply on them!!! PS: just so be clear...behavior wise, they are good well behaved, but simply lacks quality mechanics. read more

This is my first experience at this shop. They are close by and I decided to try this shop out based only on the reviews here. I kept reading about honesty and integrity and I thought I definitely have to try them out. I was on my way to work and the check engine light came on and the car started running rough so I turned around and went home. Got the scanner out. It was an issue with a cylinder misfire. I'm a handy guy but in this summer heat I did not want to be wrenching on my car. I knew the issue was most likely spark plugs or the ignition coil. I didn't have some of the tools I needed and didn't want to be making multiple trips back and forth in my car to a parts store guessing at what the issue could be. I give Kobars kudos for getting me in the shop right away and solving the problem in under two hours. Great! So they are first rate for that. I've been to shops where I've had an appointment for something simple and had to wait until 4 or 5 to pick up my car even when dropping it off at 7 a.m. One thing that stands out to me is I never received a call saying what the problem was, or how much it would cost to repair. The only call I received was that the car was ready. Every other shop I've gone to always calls to let you know what they found, or to receive your authorization to perform the work. When I came back to pick up my car I was not prepared for the bill. YIKES!!!! This is like dealership rates at a local repair shop. Maybe worse. A set of 4 spark plugs was $39. Plugs are $5 each. So a big markup there. I needed one ignition coil. The most expensive one I found was a Bosch unit for $105. The low end price was $75, Kobar's part was $154. Another HEALTHY markup. But wait, there's more... The labor was $170. This is about 30 minutes work (or less) to change the parts. Eight bolts total needed to be removed to change the plugs and replace one coil. I understand they diagnose, and then test drive. That doesn't take this much time does it? Is this labor really worth this much? Maybe I'm out of touch with pricing at repair shops these days (been a couple years since I've been to one I normally do my own work) but this is crazy. I CAN'T AFFORD TO GO BACK TO THIS PLACE. Maybe this is why they didn't call me before performing the work? I'm going to pick up a spare coil and keep a 10 mm socket wrench in my car for when/if the others go bad. Time to start sweating and saving more. If money isn't an concern for you and you just want your car fixed fast, sure I'd recommend them. But if you are on a budget (like me), I'd shop around. I'm all for paying for quality service and parts, but this seems highly excessive. read more

I am always skeptical when someone claims they have a good mechanic. I never know if there will be an attempt to upsell unnecessary repairs, include maintenance fees that are questionable, or delay in getting the car back to me. That said, I do consider a mechanic if they are reputable. I first heard of Kobar's through a coworker. I was told the owner would complete the necessary repairs and depending on ones' budget, he would advise you what was necessary for the automobile to function properly. Otherwise, he was not going to upsell anything. Much to my surprise, my coworker was right. I took my vehicle this past week to have the tension pulley replaced. I met with Gene and he was extremely professional. He was able to have the repair done the same day and the price was fair. I will continue to visit Kobar's in the future and if you're in the area, I would recommend Kobar's. read more

I'm upset that I couldn't give more than a star or two as I've become very disappointed in how my latest situation has been handled with Kobars. For starters, back before I purchased my Honda in 2012, I've been coming to Kobars since I was pretty much a kid, 8-9 years ago when my only other car I've ever owned needed work (a dinky little gold toyota camry). Kobars always been outstanding and fair with prices and whatnot throughout the years. Although this year has completely changed experience of Kobars for me was unsettling to say the least.in contrast to any other time I've brought my car to Kobars and now I don't know what to do. Around the beginning of January 2017(this year), I took my Honda Accord in to get the clutch swapped out as Kobars had quoted me the absolute best price for the labor so long as I supplied the part, as everyother shop/dealer in town wanted to charge a much higher cost to repair the clutch. They finish the clutch incredibly fast, if i recall correctly, didn't take them longer than a morning/early afternoon. Ok great, I pay for the total, I drive on home. Now this is where things start to go wrong. When reversing out of my driveway, the wheel/tire FALL OFF the control arm. A buddy and I had to do what we could to get the wheel/tire unstuck from the position it got trapped in. As you'll be able to see in the photos I uploaded. We manage to get the tire/wheel back into place so that the tow truck can tow the car without having to drag it sideways onto the rack, and so that my car wasn't stuck in the middle of the road outside of my house.. The following morning, I get an unexpected call from Kobars before I had the chance to call them, and they ask along the lines "hey uhh is everything okay on the car", I light-heatedly reply "funny story [...]" and explained to them what happened and was informed that they FORGOT to put the cotter-pin back onto the wheelhub of the front passenger. That's okay mistakes happen right? At first, Kobars was awesome about it. They took accountability for it immediately saying to bring the vehicle back and they'll fix whatever. Great! So I get the car towed back over to Kobars(lost track of how many times I've had to tow it). They call later and say they fixed the issue from the cotter-pin not being installed and replaced the CV axle free of charge. So great, I think I'm done... Then.. I noticed a type of road-noise that's coming from the front passenger wheel area.. I speak with them again, and they've become very dismissive of the problem saying "nothing else is wrong, the noise you hear is likely from the power steering pump that's leaking". Now.. This could have been an issue with miscommunication though. So after asking if they've even test drove it, I'm assured that everything else is fine, it's just the power steering pump. Now I should have been more adamant about it, but I go along my way for a while until recently the noise has become much, much worse as it had been getting worse since the beginning of the year. I finally took my car in over the weekend to A) Diagnose the noise and see if it's possibly from the time the wheel caved-in on itself, B) to get the power steering pump fixed, and C) get an oil change. They end up fixing B and C, yet don't even address A), as if I had never asked about it. The main purpose of my visit was to discuss whatever road noise or suspension issue is happening and whether it is the fault of the clutch repair in January in which the cotter-pin was overlooked and the axle caved in. After a few back-n-forths, they have one of their mechanics drive the car while I sat in passenger and their tech heard and recognized the sound immediately once we pulled out of the parking lot. He pulls the car back into the bay after a short test drive and finds that the wheel bearing/hub assembly are very very warped. The gentlemen at Kobars, quotes me $190 to repair this claiming that it's NORMAL WEAR & TEAR? For starters, I could give them the benefit of the doubt as I reported the issue immediately after the CV Axle was replaced following the clutch job in january and waited long to come back because of the same issue getting worse. On top of that, out of all 4 wheel bearings, I'm being told that the one that happens to be damaged is the same one where the front passenger tire caved in on itself? It just happens to be the same one while the other 3 wheel bearings are okay? Please check the photos I'm uploading. The warping looks far from "wear & tear" and it does just so happen to be the same one connected CV Axle/wheel/tire that caved in on itself because a single pin was overlooked when finishing a clutch job. I wasn't even asking for the entire bill to be covered, even though it's evident the cause of the damage was from back in january. I simply asked to meet half-way. I'd be willing to pay for HALF of a repair even though the fault originated from their faulty repair. Please see my photos and judge for yourself. read more

I thought these guys had another review because that's how I found them. The Kobar brothers are awesome. I took my car to Big-O Tire in Tempe for a tire rotation and they told me that I needed A, B, and C done. I know that I had some wear, but they made it sound like it was unsafe for me to drive with my tires. Anyways, I decided to get a second opinion, so I went to Kobar Auto. Not only was the services priced lower at Kobar, but they reassured me that I didn't need new tires right away. They estimated that I had another 10,000 miles to go. As a girl that doesn't know a whole lot about auto maintenance, its hard to know when someone is trying to swindle you, but I trust these guys and if I'm ever in doubt, I'll go to them! read more

The most honest mechanics I have ever had work on my cars/trucks. Last summer I was planning a camping trip with my sons and figured my brakes were about due to be changed. Not wanting to take any chances in the mountains with my kids in the card I brought my SUV to Kobar's. I told them up front that I thought the brakes needed to be replaced. They looked and told me they just needed to be adjusted and would be good for another 5,000 miles. They have always been pleasant and flexible. The only drawback is that they are only open during the week. But I trust them. So I wait until I have a vacation day and drop my car off. I won't let anyone else touch my car except for maybe an oil change and then only if it can't wait. read more

So I originally went to these guys because 1, they were very close to my house and 2, they are rated almost #1 in my area for mechanics. Well I took my truck in to have an alignment done after I dropped it 2 inches (needs to be done) and they said no problem. They had sort of a family atmosphere which is nice for a mechanic.They seemed to know people by name when they walked in. I also wanted them to replace my lower ball joints since I tore them during the drop installation. When they called back a couple hours later they told me that I had one bad upper as well and they should fix it while they were down there. So for $350 i got 3 ball joints replaced and an alignment, Not bad considering competition wanted $500. It took them an entire day to get it back and the next morning they told me their alignment machine broke and that i would have to wait so they can take it to the shop across the street. I was told it would take 45 minutes to be ready, well 4.5 hours later it finally was. I can't blame them, it wasn't their fault but that's still frustrating. Well 2000 miles later it turns out that alignment was way off and i noticed because the outside edge of both front tires was completely gone.. no tread, I could seriously see fibers. Again, not Kobar's fault but it's frustrating. So i took it back for another alignment and i didn't hear from them for a day and a half. I specifically had to call them to ask what is taking so long, and they told me it was done... Really? why did i have to call you? Ok, maybe it was a coincidence. I can't complain, it was a free alignment. My truck was driving straight as an arrow, it was good. So i went to Discount to get 4 new tires since 2 of them were shredded and i had a good discount anyway. Tires get on, and the truck pulls to the right hardcore. Like so bad that it wants to change lanes. So once again i take it back. (this is the reason the review was not one star) they took it again, free of charge to check the alignment. I was told that it wouldn't be looked at until 12 of this day (Tuesday) but i left the truck anyway... Tuesday night, no call. Wednesday morning, no call...Wednesday night, NO CALL. I finally called them Thursday morning and guess what? its done... Like seriously? i have had to bum a ride for two days and its done? Whatever. I ride my bike down to pick it up, get handed the keys and he said "We tried to switch the tires to see if it pulls to the left and it doesn't, it is probably the grading of the road as you drive down" Really? the grading of the road makes my car pull right? is that why when i take a left on an off ramp, and the grading is to the left, it still pulls right? I think i was just profiled as a young kid and they didn't want to do the work because i wasn't paying them. I am 25 year old guy who looks 19. Needless to say I think i will take my business elsewhere to a shop that could give me an honest answer. Don't let this discourage you from trying them, maybe it is just me, maybe they didn't like me, or maybe their alignment machine is still broken. read more
