By far my worst experience dealing with any kind of business or service. Please be super careful and cautious if you have any plans in taking your car for service. I called the shop on a Monday and they did not get to it until Friday, that was the easy part of all this nightmare situation. The car doesn't crank over and I was referred by a mechanic to take it to a shop that works on the electrical components of the car, so I did. I came by a few times to the shop to check on the progress and the car was still parked at the same location. When I got there and tried to explain what was wrong with my car I got different answers with one of the mechanics stating it could be the starter and the mechanic stated the engine was seized. I truly believe they did not move the car from where I left it and charged me $170 for the diagnostic. Lastly, the most disturbing act by this company was they intentionally opened my key fob and damaged the microchip, costing an additional $280, when I called the locksmith they stated someone had opened the fob and dismantled the component. They admitted fault and paid for the replacement key. read more

There was a miscommunication with what was being fixed, when it was being fixed and how much it would cost. This communication was solely blamed on me be Kevin and he proceeded to speak very rudely, tell me he is "never wrong" and that my husband needs to go down there and he "hopes he has a brain" and hung up on me twice. The way Kevin spoke to me made it clear he discriminates against women. When me and my husband went to get my car Kevin suggested my husband go outside to fight. He also refused to even speak if I was in the room. He also said at the last minute that he would only give me my car if I paid in cash because he believed I was going to cancel the transaction. the fact that he said this to me leads me to believe his customer service has led others to cancel payment to his company. I had used them before and had a great experience but had zero interaction with Kevin. Unfortunate how this one turned out. I do not recommend using this shop, however, if you want to give it a try, ask all the right questions when communicating with multiple employees. if you are a female try to avoid interacting with Kevin at all cost. read more

I have been taking my cars, trucks and the occasional minivan to Service Techniques for years. Kevin is absolutely honest. There have been several times when I've brought vehicles in because I thought they had a problem and was told everything is OK, no charge. The prices at Service Techniques are lower than other shops and they never do unnecessary work. One time my van had a service quote of $1,200 from another ship. I brought it to Service Techniques and it only needed $300 of actual repairs. I highly recommend Service Techniques for their honesty and competency. read more

The Jeep dealership replaced my rear rotors but after a few months, they started to rust. I had no idea Mopar rotors come stock painted with high-heat paint. The dealership did not inform me this would happen. When I explained that I wanted it fixed they refused and said "no one else cares about it and the rust doesn't hurt the rotors." They made me feel petty and high maintenance when all I wanted was the best for my vehicle. I was so fortunate to have found Service Techniques shortly after this incident. After several wonderful visits here, I explained the rusty rotor story to Kevin. Without question or hesitation, he offered to take care of the issue during my next service. Uh oh....you are looking for an auto-repair shop. I know the feeling of helplessness and dread, the dollar signs dancing in your head. Luckily for me--and now for you-- my husband's office is near the little, tucked-away, strip mall-like shop that is Service Techniques. It would be easy to overlook. I wouldn't give the shop a second glance, but my husband started taking his vehicle there for oil changes and minor repairs due to the convenient proximity to his workplace. Over the years we have taken several vehicles to this shop for problems big and small, and have always driven away happy. They don't advertise that I know of, and yet they are always very, very busy. Here's why: They get down to business, they are professional and have never tried to milk you for all that you're worth. They will let you know what the problem is, give you options, and price it fairly. You and I may not be friends, but if we were I would refer you to Service Techniques if you needed a reliable, honest and reasonably priced auto repair shop. read more

Don't come here if you are a woman looking for an honest diagnosis... I came here because my ac wasn't working and they fixed it once. Came back for the same issue not too long after and was told that it was because "I wasn't pressing the right buttons on my car". Never would they have told a man he wasn't pressing the right buttons to turn on the ac. It stopped working again and they said they would call me when it was figured out. They wrote down my number wrong and wasted a whole day of me not having a car. When I finally got ahold of them I was told it would be expensive to fix until they finally listened to me and looked up it was under warranty still. Came back the next day with no apology or call when it was ready. Very unprofessional and rude. Will not be coming back. read more

Yes I am that "frugle person" who would take my car for the $19.99 coupon oil change, well I have learned my lesson and will bring here, because the $30 is well worth it. Those "other" places always want upsell you any and everything (and $19.99 does not include the filter anyways). I have brought Kevin the quotes/suggestions those lube and tube joints give and most of the time it's mostly garble. Granted I do have a car with 100,000+ so she does need some pampering, but Kevin was able to save me at least 30-45% of what those other places would have charged and only recommends what he thinks you need and what you can hold off on. Absolutely excellent service! I routinely take my car there for service and I am never disappointed. They treat their customers like family and always do a tremendous job at an affordable price. In fact, I took my car in there this afternoon for an impromptu visit because the State smog testing service had failed my inspection due to a device the dealer had inserted on a connector device. First of all you should know I am a licensed Engineer and very fussy and particular. Cars are a hobby for me so I notice everything. I have never felt compelled to write a review of an automotive repair shop before, but I feel a duty to make this report because of the value received. So now I have that out of the way, read on: Reception: A tiny, two-seat area where the walls are covered with exhibits forming sort of car museum - everything that can go wrong and they've fixed, it's there. And the magazines include automotive service specialist publications, so I was clearly in a place where the people there were interested in their craft. Receptionist: Steve, who I thought was a bit shouty and wasn't too sure about to start with. But I was wrong. He kept me informed about the work as it progressed, even brought the wheel into the reception area to show me what they had to do, showed me the replacement part as soon as it arrived, and clearly knows about customer concerns. I witnessed him dealing with a wide variety of customers, from young to old, and he knows how to communicate politely and how to explain things to those who don't understand cars. The Manager and Owner: Kevin, a sort of Automotive gem. He's out there with the technicians, and apparently eats, sleeps, and breathes auto repair. He's a motorhead, and used to ride bikes. I heard him talking about a fix where he saved a customer thousands by repairing an on-board computer - a sealed, supposedly non-repairable part, by the way- by fixing two tiny wires inside it. The old wires are there in his exhibits, so I know what he did. The Work: All done properly, the car was returned clean, and for half a day's work I was charged $217 (including parts). Try getting that kind of value from a dealer. In Summary: At last I have found a place I can trust, one that is fair, and because the owner has a passion about what he does and is on the service floor, I feel the work will be properly and consistently done. And their prices are extremely reasonable. My only Concern: I hope their business model keeps them in continued operation, they aren't the kind of cut-throats I've experienced before so their profits can't be huge. But the odds tend to be stacked in favor of decent, responsible businesses so I wish them the best. I'll be back. read more

I started coming here after getting frustrated with the chain shops who kept finding extra things my car needed. A $30 oil change would always turn into $200 in additional repairs and services. Finally, on a friend's recommendation, I started coming here. That was 7 or 8 years ago. I keep coming back with my two high-mileage vehicles here for years because they always give me the straight scoop - never trying to sell anything extra, and often doing little extra things for no charge. I heard of them throught a friend of the family that said he would trust his 16 year old daughter to bring her car here by herself and not have to worry about her being lied to and upsold. These guys truly are awesome. The reviews are correct, they're honest and affordable and a wee bit disorganized. But they're SO busy all the time! That should tell you something. The owner is a crazy old dude, we thoroughly enjoyed him. We needed a whole new motor in our jeep,we were really in a bind and down to one vehicle and it was a STRUGGLE, my friends. They were able to put a newer motor in and we haven't had any problems since. We were referred to service Techniques by a friend of my husband's. Glad to have found a great shop close by. My family has taken our cars here for many years. Usually they check it out and say everything is fine, or fix something small for free. Always great service and trusted for an inspection. Once I bought a used car on impulse before bringing it to them to inspect. They later inspected and said I shouldn't buy it, it would need $2K of work. I couldn't get the dealership to let me trade for a different car. So I brought it back and Service Tech did extensive work. I've been bringing my cars here for years for any and all car repairs. Really knowledgeable mechanics who can fix things the first time. I don't think I've ever had to take my car back for re-work. Sometimes if it's an easy fix they won't even charge me, so I appreciate knowing I'm not getting ripped off. A few months back I had one of my vehicles at their shop - not sure how it happened but there was some body damage on the rear left bumper / tail light. I didn't notice it until I got home, so I called and asked them to please repair as I was certain the damage wasn't there when I dropped it off and it didn't happen on the short drive home. Steve immediately apologized and offered to fix it free of charge. They did the best they could (not perfect but you can't really tell). Steve knew it wasn't perfect so he knocked off about $200 of labor on other work they did on the car. Overall their a fair auto shop. I've never felt ripped off, and they do good work. I'm always nervous about taking my car to places not knowing anything about anything they are doing. I called one place in Tempe about getting my rotors fixed and they told me $500. So I asked for other recommendations for places from friends and they told me about Service Techniques. They quoted a cheaper price and it ended up being cheaper than that even after adding a last minute oil change. I recommend them to everyone now. They've helped me have my vehicle towed there and had it fixed and out the door in 4 hours. I'd never go anywhere else. Great prices. Honest deals. As a single woman, it's nice to have a service shop where I feel secure and confident that I'm getting a good deal. They absolutely will not rip you off, and will always do their best to find you the best prices possible and work with you to meet any demands. My only complaint with them ever is they can sometimes take a while to get the work done. I was happy to do business with a auto repair shop that had knowledge, quality and fairness as a consistant theme. Unfortunately, I never got far enough into the process to find out. I dropped my car off before they opened and put my keys in the key drop with a note on what I wanted them to do. I called back when they opened and got a message saying "if we aren't answering the phone, we are working on cars. Leave a message." I thought that was clever and I left a message. Well 11:30 rolls around and I still haven't heard from them. I needed an estimate. So I called. The first time someone answers with the business name, but no personal name. I begin to talk and I here a click. Thinking my phone dropped the call, I called back immediately. The guy on the other end of the phone rudely states "We are eating lunch. Don't call back!" and hung up the phone. I couldn't believe it. They must be doing well because they don't need any new customers. I immediately walked the block to their shop and walked into an empty front desk area. I said hello and waited. No answer. I wait some more and say hello and an answer from an open doorway to my immediate right says "Be there in a second." Brad, comes out and I read him the riot act and demanded my keys. He said "sorry" and handed them to me. I went to my car which was parked exactly where I left it 4 hours ago and left. The sad thing is that based on my friend's recomendation, I was going to have close to a thousand dollars worth of work done and if that went well, I had three other cars that needed some repair that I would have been happy to throw their way. I wrote a review last week about service techniques, and now I have to update the review. DO NOT take your car here! I promise you, you will regret it if you do. I have never written a review about any business before, but I have also never been treated so poorly by anyone in my life, so I feel compelled to review this business in order to warn others. We dropped my husband's car off 9 days, ago, and after 9 days Kevin was not only unable to diagnose or fix a simple brake problem, but the brakes actually felt worse when we picked it up. Initially the brakes were squishy and felt a little unsafe, so we brought it in. When we picked it up, my husband was scared to drive 0.2 miles to AAA Auto repair, because the brakes were that much worse. So in case you haven't read my first review, the initial problem was lack of communication. We dropped it off on Tuesday 7/19, and told them we needed it back by Tuesday 7/26. We assumed a week would be plenty of time to diagnose and fix a brake problem, and they confirmed it would be. We didn't hear from them the next day (Weds) with a quote or diagnosis like they promised, and by Friday we were REALLY wondering what was going on with our car, and still hadn't heard anything. We called multiple times that day, and were placed on hold, told they would call us back, and they never did. So finally at closing time, we drove down there and talked to them in person. They told us they were so backlogged with cars, they hadn't even looked at our car. (First red flag). We almost took the car somewhere else, but they reassured us that they were caught up, and would have the car ready on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. Monday rolls around, and they call us saying they don't know what's wrong, but they're working on it. Same answer on Tuesday. By Wednesday, we were frustrated and out of time. Both my husband and I had to work Thursday and Friday at 7 am and couldn't share a car any longer. We drove to service techniques around noon, and Kevin rambled on about what could be wrong, and said he needed more time. He told us he had bled the brakes, replaced the master cylinder, and the car was worse now than before. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it was. He convinced us to leave it with him for another 7 hours, and assured us it would be ready by 7pm. When we came back at 7, he was in an angry, foul mood (similar to how other reviewers have described). He yelled at us about how we had time management problems because we couldn't be without the car for more than 9 days (as though 9 days isn't time enough to fix a car), and told us we would get killed if we tried to drive that car. We asked him to please not yell at us, as there was no need to get angry, we simply needed our car back, and he continued to yell, stating we could take our car elsewhere, he didn't need our business. He told us he has 64 cars in his lot, and he's had cars sitting there for 3 or more weeks (as though that should make it ok that our car has taken so long, and still isn't fixed). He followed us out to our car as we tried to leave, and continued to yell, insulting us, and telling us he wouldn't be surprised if we sued him. He said in reference to our conversation in his shop "that was for the cameras", and that he had lost in court before in situations like this. I'm not sure what all that means, but it didn't sit well. It left me wondering if he had damaged the car further than it already was. Either way, he made it very clear he did not need the business, and that if we did not like being yelled at, we could find another mechanic, because that was how he conducted business. He said, "it happens all the time, and you should have heard the shouting match between me and another customer today. We dropped multiple F bombs, and were shouting at the top of our lungs for 20 minutes". It got so intense between Kevin and us that I got my phone out to record what he was saying to us, because I didn't think anyone would believe how he was treating us unless they heard it themselves. One last thing he said to us was that he finally had figured out what was wrong with our car, (I doubt it, but he said he had), but that he would not tell us what it was, and he wouldn't tell us the only other shop in town that he believed could fix it besides himself. (He loves to bad mouth other mechanics, which he did on every visit we made to the shop, which were only necessary because we couldn't get a call back to update us on our car's status). So the bottom line is, after 9 days, the car is not fixed, is actually worse than when we brought it in, and we were yelled at for 10 minutes for needing the car back, and wanting to take it somewhere else where it might actually get fixed. Thanks a lot Kevin Kinnard! You're definitely not getting our business again. But that's ok with you, because apparently, you don't need it. read more
