This place is fine, and if I'm in the right mood, I really like it. On the plus side, they have a wide selection of beers, and reliably have a few stouts or porters, even in the summer. Vegetarian food is somewhat limited, but the veggie burger is substantial and tasty. For a healthier option with diced pieces of the veggie burger, have the veggie wrap. (But don't get the salad as the side, as it's really redundant with the wrap.) On the minus side, service can be alarmingly bad or weird, particularly at the bar. One of the bro-dude bartenders enjoyed samples of beer on the clock when I was his customer. If this is his normal routine, don't be surprised when he pours the wrong beer for you or just forgets about you. Another of the bro-dude bartenders is really spastic, and in my experience, forgets to bring water despite numerous requests, assumes I'll have another of what I was drinking rather than asking (I may have wanted something different!), and zips around yammering. So yeah, if you're in the kind of mood that you can roll with all that, you should totally go for it. Sometimes I am, and I am a happy customer. But if not, I recommend going at a quiet time (early-mid afternoon) or seeking female staff. read more

I had plans to come here for a few days, and was dreaming about the menu every night this week, luckily it was just as good as I expected! I decided to go classic with some some boneless buffalo wings and a BLT, both were delicious. The bacon was perfectly crunchy, and the wings were big and seasoned very well. It was a bit crowded when we went, the restaurant was filled with a pretty even mix of families with young children, highschool and college kids. Excellent beers on tap, great food before 9, very crowded on weekends. Biggest downfall one bathroom ( tap room only. The restraunt has two that are clean.). This place was incredible! Read the reviews on here, and decided to try it after the Trail of Terror last night. Started off with a wonderful draft beer... the Smuttynose Frankenlager. Perfect! The beer menu is FABULOUS, the only thing I didn't like, is that it's written on a board up near the register and you have to stand there and study it, then try to remember what you wanted when you order (hey, I'm old, I have memory issues, lol) I understand they have quite the rotating beer selection, but it's just as easily plunked into the computer and updated and printed when things change...just sayin' ;) But a fantastic brew nonetheless. We got the Bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. Wow! Again, perfection!... The menu is a nice size, not overwhelming, just a few pages and everything looked great on paper. I had the Bruised and boozed burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was perfectly cooked, and the sweet potato fries were heaven, drizzled with a top secret (haha) (it tasted like a brown sugar) glaze. Fabulous. The waitresses were friendly. Drove down from Meriden, nice location, nice people. Started with nice spicy dry rub bone in wings - Smoke & Fire dust (habanero) w/ a half pour of aGreenflash Road Warrior Rye IPA (only $3!) Back at it again! I had a hot dog wrapped with bacon, with chili and jalapeño s which was good. My accomplices had the Jerk chicken sandwich, he said it was very good, messy but very good!! The steak and cheese on a grinder roll, awesome! And a killer pork sandwich with ham, cheese and egg covering it. Forgot the name it was hard to finish. Massive. After hearing it about this place my wife and I went here on a Friday night around 7pm. We waited in the hallway with a bunch of other couples for around 20 mins. After we were seated it was another 10 minutes before someone came to get a drink or anything we got some chicken wings and fried pickles. We had to send the chicken wings back. They weren't raw but they for sure weren't cooked all the way either. The pickles were ok. The entrees were delicious. I had a hot blood hot dog and my wife had some kind of pulled pork burger. These were fantastic. I wish I got a picture of them. It was a busy night for them and they were clearly understaffed. We've been coming here since it opened a couple years ago- you could tell just by the sign it was going to be different than everything else on Main Street! The decor and ambiance are industrial/rock, recently enhanced by Jeremy Saffer's photos of hard rock icons (like Alice Cooper) that you can actually purchase. There's rock music playing but not loud so you can still easily conversation. There's only 11 tables in the seating area so sometimes there's a wait but it usually goes quickly. My initial draw to this place was the fact that they had BACON WRAPPED HOTDOGS- seriously genius and I had never had one or even heard of it before coming here. I've tried the BLT dog, bacon wrapped hotdog with chili and cheese, the brisket sandwich, the chicken and waffle sandwich (highly recommended) and the Mac and cheese. My absolute favorite is their sweet potato fries- they're super crunchy and come lightly drizzled with a sweet and slightly spicy glaze that just puts them in my number one sweet potato fry spot- and I love me some fries so I've had my fair share! Last night for the first time we tried the Pig wings- you should do this too. Don't ask questions, just do it. They're soooo good!! Fall off the bone tender with a crispy exterior and comes with some delicious BBQ sauce (and some other sauce I wasn't a fan of) and don't order too many- these things are massive- 6 was more than enough for 3 people as an app. Service is honestly dependent on server- we've had "ok" to "very good" service but never would I say we've had bad service. There is also a bar side that I've only ever peeked into just to check it out. Lots of beer options that I believe they change up continuously. Quick bite to eat before heading to a charity event. We grabbed a table in the bar area and our server was quick to offer hellos and talk about the multitude of beers on tap. The food came out fast and hot and the beers were perfect pairings. I had been craving a patty melt for the longest time and was so happy with it. My friends both got different wraps and their only complaint was that there was too much lettuce. The atmosphere was one where we'd be able to sit and chat or have a rowdy Friday night. Awesome artwork by a local artist adorned the walls and was available for sale. Even the t-shirts were available. This has been my hands down go to favorite place for quite awhile now. If my boyfriend and I are hungry and looking for somewhere to go, this is the place!!! The pulled pork Mac and cheese sandwich is what got me hooked on this place from the first place, and is still a fan favorite. If you want to switch it up, from time to time we add the spicy bourbon sauce on it (that was a server's recommendation and it was the best!). Also, sweet potato fries are the best and the first time I ever ate sweet potato was at this place. I've also been hooked on the wedge of lettuce salad. It's simple and yummy and I feel less guilty about myself eating it! Another favorite is the cheese curds (with honey mustard sauce). Simple and yummy!!! While I'm not a big beer drinker, this place also introduced me to my favorite cider, and their summer Lights Out Lemonade is amazing! Stopped in on a Thursday night with some friends. Sat in the side room, not the bar area. Beer list was rotating on a tv screen which made it hard to read not only the names but the descriptions. However, the list was extensive and everyone at the table enjoyed their selections. Their menu is extensive as well, including salads, burgers, sandwiches, and hotdogs. I somehow forgot to review this place a few weeks ago when I was in Connecticut, luckily I just remembered! I came to Knuckleheads to catch up with some friends while visiting during the Christmas holiday. I used to live down the street from here so this wasn't my first trip. Upon entering you notice 2 separate entrance, one primarily for the bar and the other for the dining area. We went in through the dining area and were seated right away. Inside, this place looks really cool. The walls are decorated with photographs from Jeremy Shaffer and feature the likes of Korn, Slipknot, Slayer, and various other artists. The menu here specializes in various kinds of sandwiches. I decided to get the bbq chicken melt with onion rings on the side (I'm a sucker for a breaded onion ring). The food only take about 15 minutes or so to come out and I couldn't help but dig in as soon as it was in front of me. The sandwich was so good i practically Inhaled the first half of it and the onion rings were some of the best I've had in recent months. Overall, Knuckleheads is definitely my favourite spot in downtown Wallingford and somewhere I will make it a point to stop at when I visit Connecticut. read more

Such horrible service!! Ordered a moscow mule and my friend ordered a malibu bay breeze double. My drink was fine but hers had absolutely no alcohol. After waiting 20 minute for the waitress- who was on her phone at a table across the room and every customer but us, i was asked if i wanted a refill and i said i wanted the check. i got the bill and the bill had that both drinks were double. we told the waitress the drink had no alcohol and she said she couldn't guarantee that she could get it removed off the bill because it "wasn't her fault". after sending her drink back, i realized i was up charged for a double as well. my friends drink was taken off the bill and at that point i didn't feel like it was worth fighting the price of my drink. i just wanted to leave because that waitress was extremely rude and my whole experience felt like it was almost personal. read more

I have never been disappointed in the food or the beer. Most bad reviews of establishments tend to be on account of service. I base mine on THE FOOD. The food here is always on point. The bar staff are knowledgeable about the beer selections and you honestly can't order a bad thing off the menu. The pig wings will change your entire outlook on life. The hot dogs are amazing and wrapped in bacon (try the junkyard dog). The burgers are more than you can eat in one sitting. It's a great local establishment that gets packed at night so try it for a late lunch sometime. read more

Man oh man is all I can say. This heavy metal inspired restaurant offers some heavy flavors to be joyfully savored by your taste buds. I had the pulled pork sandwich doused with their homemade spicy bourbon sauce. The pork was perfectly tender and flavorful. I tried to compare it to Pig Rigs pulled pork, but I think I need another taste test to determine the winner ;-) Some friends and I did have to wait for about 20 mins to be seated, but I guess we should've expected that since it was a Friday night. This is a pretty solid place as a bar and a place to get burgers and similar items. I got the jerk chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I got the chipotle mayo on the side because it already came with some jerk sauce and wow did they overdo it on the sauce - I didn't even put the mayo on the sandwich cause I would just be eating a liquid burger at that point. The bun got so soggy so I had to take some bits off the bun as well. I was surprised that they sweetened the sweet potato fries with some kind of syrup or sugar glaze cause it was overwhelmingly sweet and I could not eat past a couple, so I felt like it was a waste to spend the extra money for them when I should've gotten normal fries. We ordered poutine for the group, but they had fried cheese curds instead of the normal ones so it wasn't authentic poutine. LOVE this place. They just recently redid the menu and oh man they did a great job. I got the early bird tots, all I can say is wow. Tator tots with 2 over easy eggs, bacon, American cheese, and a srirachia maple sauce, breakfast for an appetizer is all I could ask for. I also got the junkyard dog, bacon wrapped hot dog with chili, coleslaw and jalapeños, only I got it without the jalapeños. My friends got some crazy looking burgers that they loved. The bar area is super tight and the bathrooms are not on the first floor (unless there were other bathrooms but I kept seeing everyone go upstairs) so it's not wheelchair accessible if you need to pee. This is a great little place to get a five star burger. To start we had to try the pig wings which in my book is a must the sauce they come with is so tasty and addicting. The cheese curds are so cheesy and a good starter. They had so many sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs to choose from I had a hard time narrowing it down. I got the steakhouse burger and it came out just like a burger should huge and messy. It came with fries so all the toppings would drip onto them making them soak up the goodness of the burger too. I was getting full but could not stop because it was so good! I would definitely come back just for that burger alone but i would love to try more options as well. The staff was great and attentive! What blew my mind was we went during Halloween and the staff dressed up like character from the show stranger things and that was the best costumes ever. Was in tn North Haven attending the Renaissance Faire when my group wanted some real food and drink. Riding around Wallingford is like walking around a giant buffet line. So many restaurants to choose from. We all decided to try Knuckleheads because it looked good and there was beer. lol We got to the restaurant just before the crowd came. Our waitress (wish I knew her name) was fantastic! Really relaxed service with us. Talked real with us and not all fluffy like 99% of other restaurants force their employees to do. Some cursing and laughs and she was the best waitress I can say I ever have. My whole group loved her! The food was fantastic. Burgers were juicy and full of flavor. Nothing was greasy at all. Fried cheese curds were beyond awesome. Fried pickles were crisp and not limp. Full of flavor and good size portions. Prices are good for everything and great on hot dogs. Lastly the establishment is very clean and comfortable to sit in. Bathrooms were clean, no complaints there. Parking is on the street. The crowd at Knuckleheads ranged from older folks to babies. Luckily once the place is full it gets pretty loud so if a child is there and starts to cry you really don't notice it. We all agreed we're going to be back to try some of the other food on the menu and hopefully we'll get the same girl to help us with our food. Thank you Knuckleheads!
