I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately very disappointed instead. First I was surprised that corned beef hash wasn't on the menu. But whatever I decided on sausages. My daughter ordered French toast, no cinnamon. It was made with sandwich bread and came with table sugar, not the typical powdered sugar. Kind of weird, right? The home fries, although looked amazing, were way too peppery to the point inedible for both of us. Found the Knotty Pine via Google search and went for breakfast Sunday. Such a cute place, so cozy. Great service, awesome coffee, awesome eggs and muffins! Sausage and home fries were very good, but way too spicy!!! And the pancakes were alright, but tasted like cake batter, not pancakes. Probably won't order them again. Very friendly family owned diner that has been open in this town for 100 years. Our waitress Toula opened this place with her father after they moved from Greece. Toula is now 73 years old and still lively and friendly and tells us she is here at the diner at 4am every day. Her sons run the business now. Food came out quickly and was wonderful! Whenever I come to Newton to visit my mom I eat breakfast here and really enjoy it. The staff is really friendly, the eggs, omelets, and pancakes are great. The service is very quick. Oh, and I love sitting at the counter and staring at the signed flying Bobby Orr picture on the wall. I never get tired of looking at that, or eating breakfast at the Knotty Pine. read more

My wife and I ate at the Knotty Pine on a Saturday morning in February, 2018 - great hole-in-the-wall place with great food (my wife said the Knotty Pine Omelet was amazing!) and great decor. Good breakfast but cash only! The place is small. We went on a weekday and were lucky to find an open booth. The food comes out quickly and the portions are relatively small, I would say. The homefries were delicious, the omelette ok and the pancakes were solid. They charge almost $4 for a side of bacon, and in my opinion it was not worth it. The things that made me knock down stars from this place: 1) it is cash only; 2) when we got our check, there was no kind of itemization on it. I tried to do the math based on the prices on the menu and could not come up with what they were charging me. The total was still several dollars higher than what I added up even with rounding and taxes added. Was there a service charge? Were we charged for the large order of pancakes instead of small? Was there a charge for syrup, which we did not order? I don't know. The person taking our order seemed too busy so we just left and didn't argue. read more

Excellent find. Great this-place-has-always-been-here kind of atmosphere at this family-owned diner. We couldn't believe that we were able to walk in and grab a table on a weekend morning. In other major metros this type of beloved breakfast diner definitely would be packed all morning long. (Note, a wait did eventually develop by the end of our breakfast.) The breakfast meals were delicious, especially the ones with their home fries. For guests at the nearby Marriott, this is a great alternative to the overpriced breakfast at the hotel. My boyfriend and I love Knotty Pine. Its usually the first thing we crave on a Sunday morning. They have great breakfast food (never tried lunch menu), quick service and get you in and out. I'm not looking for a fancy, drawn out breakfast. I want to sit down, order, eat then go. Its perfect. Its a small, family run place, and they know what they are doing. To the blond snooty waitress who likely is cursing me for not leaving her a red cent for a tip....I leave you with this: I sat at a booth (alone) and you asked me to move to the counter b/c the booths were for 2+ ppl - fair enough, I get it. But when I got to the counter, you rudely didn't greet me at all. But you did greet every male customer with a "Hey how ya doin' guys". Food was OK. But you never said thank you - silent as you left the check in front of me as if I were invisible. You then continued to ignore me when I had my money laid out, waiting to pay. Some guy came by took the check, returned my change and he also never said THANK YOU. I was very nice and said my pleases and thank you's. So, why did this customer leave you no tip?! Because you are a rude waitress. Time to look into something that suits your style better. I will not be returning. But I'll send my brother b/c I know you will greet him w a wink and a smile. read more

What a darling little diner! Four of us out-of-towners piled into a booth for breakfast on Sunday and were warmly greeted by the two charming waitresses. We were in Auburndale/Newton for the Boston Tea Party dance event at the Marriott. It was our first visit to the Knotty Pine, and we were made very welcome. Coffee flowed. Our pancakes and omelets were prepared quickly. They have a nice variety of breads for your toast. Service is swift but not hurried. Some people came and went as we relaxed, but we didn't monopolize our place for too long. The diner counter is a great option for solo diners or those in a bit more of a hurry. And they will prepare take-out for you. Thanks! When we are in town again, we will eat breakfast nowhere else!! read more
