Katie is a healer truly in a class of her own. She has an innate understanding of the human body and will educate you on any ways you may be holding yourself that create pain patterns. Trust me - allow her to do her own thing instead of pinpointing where to go. A massage connoisseur friend highly recommended Knot Detective as we are both heavily invested in our physical recovery. Upon viewing their website, I was pleasantly surprised by the unique offerings, the prices, and their playful disposition. After investigating reviews and therapist backgrounds, I booked a 90 minute massage with Rynice. There was zero wait time, as I arrive one minute late, and Rynice took me back to the massage room immediately. I uploaded all of my structural and muscular issues to her and she got to work. She offered music selection, bed temperature, and overall was accommodating and communicative. She spent just the right amount of time on my trouble areas and even identified some other areas that needed attention. While I thought I knew what was up with a particular area, she helped bring a whole new level of awareness to what was ACTUALLY going on and even offered a couple of rehab exercise suggestions. I left so relaxed, feeling aware, and with a greater sense of empowerment and knowledge to rehabilitate my ding dang shoulder. I've already booked my second massage. It's all about Dalanda. I typically have a tough time relaxing enough to handle trigger point therapy so I usually just get Swedish at other places. Truth is after the past few massages at The Knot Detective I've had I'm now able to get so relaxed that after the last one I needed some time to come back to Earth after the last massage. Dalanda has released tension in my psoas (a spot that many therapists won't even go near), neck, shoulders, forearms, and hamstrings so far and I'll keep going back. Dalanda understands muscles and fascia really well. I've worked for years to release the fascia in my hamstrings on foam rollers and never got anywhere. In one massage she focused some time on hamstrings and some huge knots, probably years old, released. With other therapists I think it would have been extremely uncomfortable but she took the time to ease in to those knots and open the door for me so I could let them go. I also like that Dalanda doesn't make me listen to spa music. She plays nice soothing music but without any running water sounds or pan flutes or singing bowls. That music can be OK but it's never something I would choose to listen to on my own so I appreciate hearing regular music. She's offered aromatherapy each time I've been there and I like the options, my favorite so far is tangerine+patchouli which I would never have thought to try but it's so soothing. I liked the frankincense blend too. I think she has a lot of other options but those are the two I've tried so far. About The Knot Detective: I like the space - it is in a small office building but when I'm inside I feel like I'm at someone's house. They have a lot of therapists and days/times to get massages so if you think you're difficult to schedule you might want to give them a try. I think they offer a lot of other modalities besides trigger point too, check out their website to see if they have what you are looking for. Rates: $95 for 90 minutes is an excellent value for a therapeutic massage, especially the kind with lasting results. I don't yelp often so when I do: I really mean it. Highly recommended. read more

I really like the professional yet relaxed atmosphere at The Knot Detective. Michele Caldwell is an amazing massage therapist. The massage rooms are clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The ambience of this place is great. Did I mention Michele? She can work knots out like no massage therapist I have ever seen. She treats each client as if they are her only appointment of the day. This was the BEST massage I have ever had! I had been stressed out for the past six months and was over due for a massage. I try to go every six months just to get everything worked out. I am new to the Austin area so decided it was time to look for a new massage therapist. Scheduling an appointment online was so easy. I was so pleased with the location and the friendly staff. Rynice was amazing! It's like she understood my body in ways that I didn't even understand it. I was so satisfied that I scheduled my next appointment and got a gift card for my boyfriend to go! I am used to paying $85-$130 for an hour massages. At Knot Detectives it was $65 (not including tip) for an hour and made the other massages seem like they were just a back rub! read more

I could not have been more happy with the treatment. Katie was the owner and she has a lot of experience on getting the kinks out. Saturday morning I had enough of a crippling back pain I had been plagued with for two weeks. I was unable to bend over, tie my shoes, pet my dog, or lift anything. I didn't have luck the last time I went for a massage at another place for similar pain, so hunted around via Yelp. Knot Detective is right down the road from my new place and Katie had excellent reviews. I booked with cautious optimism...actually really skepticism. The last girl left me bruised and feeling worse than when I walked in so I thought I was in for the same regret. However, Katie is pure unicorn magic. I love that she reviewed the online form I filled out, as most places your left repeating the same info. I don't know what kind of massage I got or her type of technique but it was exactly what I needed. She worked the issue spots I told her about - glute, back, and scapula - through stretches, pulls, and pressure. She does this thing to make your muscles freak out then relax (same reaction as dry needling) which is exactly what I needed. She put my arm back in alignment and helped me stretch out the tightness. Katie has been at this location for 3 years and in the business for 13, after studying in Denver. The atmosphere was casual and open; Katie and I chatted and laughed throughout most of the session. She's smart, funny, and quirky. It's not your usual dark room with monks chanting but I came to appreciate that and Katie's warmth. I sit here two days after, able to bend over and pick up my pup, tie my shoes, and now able to sit without major discomfort with my back or IT band. I'm very happy with the improvements Katie was able to make and I look forward to another massage. read more

I went to Katie at the Knot Detective since she was located just down the street from where I live. I registered online and filled out a questionnaire about my massage therapy experiences and needs. Once I went in, this helped save time from filling out forms and Katie already knew what I was looking for. I had a kink in my shoulder blade area, and Katie worked that right now. I had a 1 hour session, but it felt longer than that! Which is awesome, because I had mainly gone to get massages at day spas... and after you fill out forms, talk to the massage therapist about what's going on with your body, change and get comfy, etc. - some of your massage time is gone, and you're left with the feeling: My massage is over already?! Not with Katie... It felt like the massage was a long time (not complaining) and my issue was alleviated. I will definitely be back for more massages with Katie (she has a frequent visitor punch card system!), and I highly recommend her to anyone who is having issues and needs massage therapy. read more

This clinic is getting even more awesome! They just added a new massage therapist named Chris Kimbrough. My husband tried her recently and said she's awesome! We're both very active, do a lot of cross training and running, and I found out she's a serious runner (as in, she shattered the Beer Mile World Record in 2014 and qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2007---Google it). Crazy! I can't wait to try her out, because she evidently has secret massage skills for running issues. On the other side of the spectrum, I brought my mom here because she had hip pain. She was afraid having someone work on it would hurt, but she ended up falling asleep on the massage table and waking up feeling better! Also, since I was waiting during my mom's hour session, the owner was super sweet and offered me some fresh coffee they just happened to make for the staff. read more

Katie is seriously a knot detective. She found knots that I didn't even know I had. The office is clean, easy to find, and she has amazing bed side manner. She made me feel very comfortable and clearly has experience working on athletes/very active people. She came highly recommended to me by one of my workout buddies and now I know why! If funds allowed, I would see her weekly :) On that note though, she is very very affordable, much more affordable than a spa and in my opinion she was way better than any massage therapist I have had at a spa. My name is Song Campbell and I have had at least 10 treatments from Tamar over the past few months and she is amazing. I had sciatica a couple weeks ago and she completely took care of it in 2 treatments. It has not come back and i feel great. Another time I had tripped and fell on my knee about 8 mo before I met Tamar. My knee hurt really bad and I had been limping around for all those months. Katie works miracles with her hands. I was dealing with a shoulder injury for a little over a year. I tried chiropractors, physical therapists, cupping, dry needling, graston, and EMS therapy. None of which helped. I finally decided to see an orthopedic surgeon since I was in constant pain all day everyday. I got a couple of cortisone shots and those only provided temporary relief. At this point I was over the pain and was ready for surgery. I got an MRI and it showed I had a partially torn infraspinatus. They wanted to shave down a bone and move my bicep tendon down. I posted on FB that I was going to get surgery and someone recommended getting a specialized massage. So I did some research and came across Knot Detective. This was my last ditch effort before going through with surgery. The very next day after my first session I felt immediate relief. I couldn't believe it! Katie literally saved me from getting surgery. I've been back several times now and I'm almost 100% back to normal. I can't thank her enough and can't recommend her enough. I've had quite a few people ask me about my shoulder since they are dealing with injuries and without hesitation I recommend them to book an appointment with Knot Detective.
