I hired KNJ Renovations for a master and hall bathroom remodel, and it was a complete nightmare of unfulfilled contract specs, unauthorized structural changes, and deceptive pricing tactics.
First, the company committed a major layout breach. Our signed contract explicitly called for a luxury 42-inch wide tub footprint. Instead, they unilaterally installed a standard 32-inch tub without a change order, completely skipping the framing labor required to expand the room.
Second, when they encountered a layout conflict with my heating vent during demolition, they performed unauthorized structural HVAC changes--relocating my active heating line to the opposite side of the room without my knowledge or consent just to mask their own framing error.
Third, they accepted my second milestone payment early, which was strictly due upon the arrival of the materials and premium matching Carrara vanity countertops and sinks. Three weeks later, the countertops never arrive, and they attempted to substitute cheap white alternatives while trying to illegally shake me down for an extra $1,800 "fabrication fee" for the stone I already paid for in the original scope.
Finally, when called out on their errors with physical photographic proof, the owner attempted to double-charge me for repairs already paid for in an earlier change order and threatened to impose a completely illegal 10% daily interest penalty via email to intimidate me.
I have formally terminated KNJ Renovations for cause. I had to monitor their tool retrieval under security escort because their crew actively tried to steal my raw project supplies out of my garage on their way out.
