The service here is great. We felt very well cared for. The birria tacos were amazing, lightly crispy on the outside and cheesy and meaty on the inside. Whenever I get birria tacos, it is a requirement for them the tortillas to be fried up in the birria fat, which is what they did here!! Not all Mexican restaurants do that, which is a shame. I wish the consomme came in a larger portion though. I always drench my tacos with the consomme, but the portion here was in a tiny little sauce cup, like they served it to you as a condiment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't consomme more like a soup/broth? So wouldn't it make more sense to serve you a soup sized portion of it? The menu here is also pretty small, but the bar menu is huge. So if you love drinking and Mexican food, I would recommend this place. read more

I am so surprised. We were in Monrovia for one night and I did not expect much but we came here and Cadillac margaritas were actually so good and taquitos delish and the tortilla soup had a full fresh avocado. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And it was trivia night so great energy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Really nice evening. It was my first time coming to this place to hang out with some friends. It was during the week so it wasn't too crowded, and I was greeted immediately. I ended up getting the nachos with al pastor, fries with asada and chicken sliders (had to try all the meat groups!). I also had the Westy beer and their red ale which was delicious. A football game was on, and they had game night specials, which was a nice bonus. All and all, I would come back and recommend to a friend. read more

Went on a Wednesday which happened to be Trivia night so ended up sitting out side. The owner, Matt, ended up being our server and was nice enough to give us a heater. Prior to him becoming our server, we were waiting about 15 minutes for someone to help us. We ordered the birria tacos, Pozoloe, and 2 enchiladas. The Birria tacos were bomb diggity bomb, but not worth 5 dollars each given the size. Our pozole did not come with one pozole, had to send back to kitchen to add and onl t recieved back a small handful that was added to the soup. The pozole was loaded with meat. My parents shared the enchiladas and finished them, so I assumed they were good. Matt provided overall great service and the trivia night inside looked poppin. Definitely would come back to try the loaded fries because of a lit of reviews on how good they are. read more

The service was great. The wait staff was super attentive and responsive. The ambiance was perfect for a place like this. Music at appropriate volume to keep conversations manageable. However. The food was bar food. I understand that alcohol pays the bills but the food came out of a frozen bag and reheated on the skillet. Nothing seemed original or fresh cooked on the premises. My friend and I had a taste for birria tacos and came across Knight Cap. Knight Cap is located in old town Monrovia and is a nice, quaint, chill place. I ordered the birria tacos and a side of beans and a margarita. The tacos are delicious, generous portions, good consume -not greasy. The margarita was good too. The churro and vanilla ice cream is so good. Everything is made fresh in house including the salsa. Prices I feel are reasonable, service was excellent and restaurant clean . There is in door and out door seating. Brunch is served on the weekends, there is a happy hour Mon- Fri 4-6 p.m. and late night happy hour at 10:00 p.m, to closing. I stopped by here multiple times when I lived in Monrovia. I mostly remember the seafood and certain mixed drinks. However, I believe the options were reasonably priced, with timely and friendly service. So, I hope this continues to thrive in the community! read more

Service is terrible. The serving staff are not experienced and their personalities get in the way of providing even par for the course service. They need better training on what it means to be a waiter, food server whatever you want to call it. The food, it's ok. Small portions and I'm now going over my credit card statement and it was $40 for 6 or 8 small tacos and no alcohol. I won't be returning Reason for the one star? It's to skew the rating to better reflect the restaurants rating. This is not a 4 star yelp establishment it's a weak 3. read more

My best friend and I came to Knight Cap this past Saturday night for some drinks. The drinks were fairly priced and decent, I've definitely had better. They have so many drink options, so maybe I need to try a different one. I got a strawberry margarita. The place was empty at 9:15pm but they had a dj, which was nice. I ordered the taquitos and they were DELICIOUS. They were crunchy and the chicken was moist. I would come back just for the taquitos. I recommend trying this place out. Experienced a wonderful time here! Enjoyed a fantastic happy hour with staff who were both friendly and attentive. The drink suggestions were right on point. The happy hour got extended because of the fantastic atmosphere and the delectable drinks. The appetizers, including cantina fries, chips, salsa, and asada quesadilla, were all incredibly delicious. My wife and I came here after getting her new care from BMW of Monrovia. This restaurant is on a quaint street near an old movie theatre. Large selection of drinks and draft beer. My wife ordered the surf and turf burrito and I got the chicken burrito. The burritos had rice and beans and cheese inside, so they both were full of flavor and also filling. I love the location of this eatery - so convenient! The waiters were mostly really nice! However, I see that isn't the case with everyone. This afternoon, there was a young man sitting directly ahead of me to whom was directed the most random bout of rudeness (from waiter with much youthful energy and voluminous hair). I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say, I certainly felt uncomfortable with the about-face witnessed. First...shout to Melissa, our server who was full of smiles and great service!! This was my and my husband's first time at Knight Cap and won't be our last. Started with the $10 (what a deal!) Bay Breezie cocktail. I had the Birria Burrito, which was so fantastic my knees went weak! Shredded beef that had tons of flavor, was juicy and tender. Now, this part is a big thing for me,..it had refried beans inside which, in my opinion, is the bomb! I don't like black or pinto while in my burrito, so it was a great surprise! Hubby had the surf and turf burrito, and although he said it was good, will have the birria next time. Lots of tvs playing sports, clean tables and great prices. We'll be back! read more

We stumbled upon Knight Cap when they first opened and it's one of our favorite places to go for some great food and drinks! The owners, Matt and Melissa are absolutely amazing-- super friendly and attentive. They are constantly looking for ways to improve their restaurant for example, Taco Tuesday deals, Trivia night, Brunch Menu on weekends, and having a live DJ at night. What a vibe! The fastest way to my heart is through my stomach-- food is delicious! My go-to is their Birria Taco and Quesadilla. Don't get me wrong, everything is delicious! Missed an opportunity to write my review on the day of our visit 3-17-23. Well have to write it now. We went in for drinks and were surprised by the food! Great place for drinks. Had green beer and Irish mule 3-17.) Drank some Guinness and another mixed drink which I just do not recall the name of. All were good. We added some food and let me just say this was the highlight and surprise for sure. Beef Taquitos, (get out of my face corn" appetizers. Birria tacos and torta sliders next. The birria tacos were very good and we went back for seconds. The torta sliders were good but I would rank them last among what we tried. Great ambiance and great service. They were very accommodating and polite. It definitely was a great visit on a busy day and they excelled! A must visit again! read more

My friend and i came across Knight Cap, it was around 10:40pm and it was not crowded, we were able to sit at the bar & the two bartenders one female & one male. I was unable to get their names but they were soo nice. They made my friend & I feel safe and secure especially when a gentleman that was obviously too drunk approached us. They kept an eye out on us and made sure we were comfortable. We were unable you order food bc the kitchen was closed but the male server was able to give is chips & gauc! Rlly good it tastes fresh! We came on taco Tuesday and got a chance to try a variety of tacos. Al pastor was my favorite and recommend it. Beer and margaritas are discounted on Tuesdays. We sat at a table by the front window facing the main drag. The area definitely has an old town feel with many restaurants and shops up and down the street. There is also a park right across the street. There is plenty of parking around the corner on the street and in a nearby lot. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. We had one more round of drinks and I had the Billionaire cocktail (Old Forrester 100 proof bourbon, lemon, house made grenadine, absinthe, $16). This was excellent. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. They have a very good sized cocktail and food menu, as well as many beers on tap. They also have happy hour specials. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.

I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. The margaritas were honestly some of the worst we've had -- they tasted like straight margarita mix blended with ice, and we could barely drink them. The enchiladas were also very underwhelming, especially for the price. It was basically shredded chicken in tortillas with sauce, rice, and beans, and for $20 it just wasn't worth it. The food tasted very Americanized and lacked authentic Mexican flavor and seasoning. That being said, the customer service was amazing. The two ladies who helped us were incredibly attentive, kind, and kept checking on us. They offered extra drinks and multiple items, which we normally appreciate because when we go to Mexican restaurants we usually order multiple rounds and end with Cadillac margaritas. Unfortunately, the drinks were so bad we didn't want to order anything else, but their effort and service did not go unnoticed. One small disappointment was when I asked for hot sauce to add more flavor to my green sauce enchiladas, and I was brought the same red enchilada sauce instead, which made the meal worse. I am a food and beverage manager myself, and I can honestly say I would hire those two servers in a heartbeat because they were fabulous. The service was excellent -- it's just the food and drinks that really need improvement.

I was greeted upon arrival and aside from a party of 2 seated outside the patio, I was the only other person. My order was taken right away and food came within 15 minutes - which was great. I was warned that my plate would be hot, but I wasn't expecting my eggs to also be BURNING hot. I was a bit taken aback at the temperature of the eggs after I took my first bite. The turkey sausage patty tasted rather bland, even after all the salt & pepper I added. I can honestly say I might just stick with coming here for Happy Hour or Dinner.
