I liked that they had different items out on display that looked fresh. The menu was in French, but one of the women working there noticed we might need help and asked us what we were looking for. So friendly! She also helped us figure out what was gluten-free / gluten-friendly. We ordered a gluten-free avocado toast with an egg sunny side up (pretty solid) a ham and cheese croissant (they pressed it so it was dense and it was perfect) , and we had originally brought our own coffee in to-go cups, but they transferred it into mugs for us when we stayed. I was worried about an extra charge for doing that, but there was none, which was a nice touch. A couple notes: - They take credit cards - Wi-Fi is available - One weird/practical thing: you can't use a laptop until 3 PM so I wouldn't really come here in the morning if I needed somewhere to work. - They seem to be known for their crêpes, although we didn't try one, so I might come back! The total came out to $19.83 CAD. The tables weren't very clean, but overall, a nice experience and glad that the ambience was quiet and welcoming for the morning.

On my kid's last full day in Montreal, we were walking around Old Montreal, deciding what to do for…read morelunch, when we realized, we need to have a quintessentially French meal - but something light, and crepes immediately came to mind. And this creperie was centrally located on the main drag (Rue St. Paul), and I know it's been here for years and years, as I've passed the sign for eons. So in we went! The restaurant is located up a flight of stairs and there is no elevator, FYI, so if you are mobility challenged, this would not be ideal. Upstairs, the interior is warm and chalet-like, with wooden planks on walls, exposed brick, lots of light from the windows, and wall shelving containing European and Quebec chocolates, maple syrups, etc. Behind the counter you can see the guy making the crepes one by one. Pretty legit. We wanted to get a savory and a sweet crepe and share them both. We first ordered a chicken and cheese crepe (my kid LOVES chicken) but we were told they had no chicken (strange, at lunch-time in a busy restaurant in a busy part of town, eh? Chicken is so....basic). So we opted for a cheese and asparagus crepe. For the dessert crepe we ordered a classic strawberry crepe. We said we'd share them both and have the strawberry one "for dessert", thinking they'd bring out the savory one first. Perhaps there was a language barrier, but the server brought out both crepes at the same time. Oh well. Both crepes were made with the PERFECT crepe-pancake: super thin, delicate, with the perfect firmness and perfect sweetness. I've not had better crepes even in France. As for the fillings....we weren't that keen on the cheese and asparagus crepe. The asparagus was stringy, and the cheese was way too salty. This savory crepe came with a small salad on the side and, for me, this salad was the best. part of this dish; the lettuce was super fresh and the salad dressing was delicious. The strawberry crepe was wonderful: perfectly filed with the right amount of sweetened fresh strawberries and small dollops of fresh whipped cream. Definitely the strawberry crepe was the hit of the meal. The cheese-asparagus crepe cost $17 and the strawberry one, $15. I thought these prices somewhat high but I guess, for freshly made crepes in a touristy part of town, it's par for the course.

Or so I thought. Next stop: Maman in Griffintown. Mom already knew Maman because apparently they have one back home on the Upper East Side. Yet somehow, despite living on the Upper East Side myself, I have never been taken there. Interesting. We will address this upon our return to New York. The Griffintown location has a really nice outdoor seating area running alongside the building, with blue café tables, big wooden pergolas and planters. Under normal circumstances, this would have been perfect for me. Unfortunately, it was raining. The staff very kindly told Mom and Dad that I could come inside as long as I remained in my carrier. Terms accepted. After an entire morning of adventuring, I had absolutely no objection to being carried around like important cargo. Mom ordered eggs Benedict and an iced latte. Dad went with scrambled eggs, bacon and toast plus a Diet Coke. I stayed tucked inside my carrier and monitored the bacon situation. Very closely. No further comment at this time. The humans declared brunch a success, and I appreciated having a warm, dry place to recover after my morning excursion instead of sitting outside contemplating my life choices in the rain. Dogba's verdict: 3 paws out of 5. Rainy-day hospitality: very appreciated Dogba welcome: kind and accommodating Carrier accommodations: cozy Outdoor patio: saving this for a sunnier day Mom's eggs Benedict: big success Iced latte: Mom approved Dad's bacon: closely monitored Classic Dad breakfast: successfully demolished Post-adventure recovery: excellent Dogba brunch supervision: impeccable Would I return? Absolutely. In fact, I've recently learned that Maman has a location in my own neighborhood in New York City. Mom has some explaining to do. See you on the Upper East Side, Maman. I know where you live now.
