Located in Chinatown, right next door to Ding Xiang

Dragon's Beard Candy or Bonbon a la Barbe de Dragon is located in Chinatown, right next door to Ding Xiang (where you can get some delicious skewers). My husband, our little girl dog and I were walking in Chinatown, looking for something to eat. When I saw the dragon beard candy, I just knew I needed to stop and purchase some. For those that are not familiar, dragon bearded candy is a dying art of making candy out of spun sugar (like the process of cotton candy), but by hand. Because this unique art can be quite labor intensive, this may be the reason why you don't see places making them as often as before. Inside, common fillings will include peanuts, sesame seeds and maltose syrup. These are really best consumed fresh though because once the candy sits, it will get hard. Well we came yesterday night, about an hour and 10 minutes before closing. I purchased a small box for $6.90 CAD (after tax), which came with 8 pieces. I also wanted to purchase a bubble waffle but the girl who took my order said they were done making food for the night. The candy was good, but a little dry. Again, would have been better fresh, but still glad to have it, as this candy reminds me of my childhood. My husband finds these candies to be too sweet so he stopped at just one. Please note that this place does take credit card, but with a minimum $5 transaction. I ended up paying cash though since I had it on hand.

Always a treat coming here when in Montreal. You cant find these candies in the States so its a must when in town.

Since dragon's beard candy is really hard to find nowadays in NYC, my friend asked me to get them here for her as a souvenir. She's had dragon's beard candy from this place before and recommended me to go here as well. The owner was making the treats fresh on the spot, and there was a crowd of people around the stall in Chinatown. My friends and I collectively got several boxes because I convinced my friends to also bring them back home as souvenirs. The owner promised the treats would keep for a while if we fridge them, so we weren't worried about them lasting. We shared one box to eat in Chinatown, and they were good, but the ones I used to have in NY would melt in my mouth. This one didn't have that effect, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm older now and my threshold for sugar is lower, but it tasted a little too sweet. It's $6 for one box. You can also get bubble tea here, though I didn't. There are other branded bubble tea spots in the vicinity.

As of today, google said he closed at 5pm, yelp said 10pm but we called to confirm and the OG told us 8pm come down! I never had it before but the lady said i need to try it so we went on the mission. It's down chinatown alley street, you'll definitely walk right by it if you're not fully paying attention. There was a good amount of people out here for a Tuesday, quite a few panhandlers and scooter squads in area that were pretty aggressive but tell them to walk and they usually leave you alone. The candy at first if you put a whole piece at once in your mouth tasted plain at first until the stringy candy starts to meld with the peanut filling that's when the flavor comes out. I liked it, sort of wish the stringy parts had a bit more flavor but since it's like the only place that does it it's only right to pop in. Thanks OG

If you blink, you will miss it! It's a little tiny spot along the Chinatown strip. I walked right by it and even looked at it and passed it the first time... went back and found it because I was trying to look for it! It's one item with like 8 pieces in a plastic container for $6.70CAD. I don't know what the white part is, it's like cotton. it's covered in powered sugar (or tastes like) and has peanuts and coconut and sesame in it. Might have more in it. It's somewhat tasty. I bought it just because and probably wouldn't buy it again. It was fun to try the one time.

So delicious! It's a soft cotton candy like but chewy candy with peanuts and sesame seeds! Sounds simple but it is sooo delicious! Def recommend! Service is very fast ! just a small food stand, pay and grab your food!

Got 6 pieces for $4.50 and this time around, it was way more delicious than the first time I had it so I'm pretty sure it was a me problem the first time. Wispy delicious strings of sugar enveloping a mix of coconut, peanuts, and whatever crunchy bits they tuck inside. These are addicting. Service was lovely!

Did not know what to expect, but I love it! Each one is about half a thumb size that looks like spider webs. Bite into it, and you'll get sweet peanuts. Will have to get more to take back to Cali. Very small shop that he makes them there himself. Enjoy!

Dragon's Beard Candy has been around for a long time. I used to come here with family as a kid and always loved it. They are filled with peanuts and are not too sweet. It was $6.50 for 8 pieces as of 6/4/2024. There are not many places that have dragon beard candy in the states nor do I think in Canada either so it's nice to see that Montréal has it.

Always a must when visiting Chinatown and I wish Toronto had a shop that specializes in dragon beard...

Un lugar para no dejar pasar cuando se visita el Chinatown, un lugar pequeño donde preparan unos dulces típicos de China, están super delicious y frescos ya que son preparados delante los clientes, tenga preparado su agua por que son bastante dulces!!!

Unique treat that's not too sweet even though it's like cotton candy outside the filling is nutty goodness.

I've been to Montreal many times, and have walked around where this shop is, but never actually noticed Candylabs. I only discovered them when my brother and sister-in-law got me 2 packs of candies from them as part of my Christmas present. The candies they got me were so cute. They were shaped like little sushi rolls and even came with mini chopsticks, lol. The ones that looked like Futomaki were strawberry-kiwi flavour. The ones that looked like Salmon Maki were grapefruit flavoured. The candies were crunchy and really tasty! And so cute! In addition to their bricks and mortar store in Montreal, they sell their candies online as well, which is how my brother and sister-in-law bought them. I went to their website, and the candies are a bit pricey, like the sushi candy bags are $6.99 each. However, they are handmade and they source most of their ingredients from Canadian suppliers. Apparently they also make custom candies. Which I imagine would be great promotional materials for companies and also the cutest wedding favours for couples getting married. Looking forward to a time when I can go back to Montreal and go to the bricks and mortar store and check out their candies.

She must have got it at a boutique in heaven" (Justin Timberlake) There's a plethora of pretty and beautiful things to choose from in this boutique. The gorgeous store is stocked with all types of chocolate, sweet treats, marshmallows, bars, gift baskets and gift boxes, bulk candy and pretty much whatever your sweet tooth desires. We picked up a small bar of salted caramel chocolate and a gorgeous chocolate bar with candied orange rind for us, and jars of caramel and chocolate covered marshmallows for the grandkids. Chocolate and orange combinations have long been a favorite of ours, and I gotta tell you, their version of this combo was fantastic. Delicious milk chocolate with a distinct undertone of orange.
