    Poutine and Traditional Beaver Tail
    Tuhin C.

I tried Poutine and Beaver Tails here! Poutine isn't really my cup of tea, but I might need more exposure to develop a taste to it, but they were super generous with their serving sizes and the french fries in the poutine were fresh and cripsy! I went with the original beaver tail and it was great - it tasted kind of like an unwrapped churro for me and I'm glad I was able to get some of my Montreal must try foods checked off on my bucketlist here!

We come here every year when we visit Mtl and it's great every time. I like the new decor as well. The turn around time after ordering is pretty quick and they're made fresh every time. Overall a must stop when visiting the area. Enjoy

Several Delta Marriott Hotel employees raved about the beaver tails at Queues De Castor. Each time they saw us they'd ask "have you eaten there yet?!" Tonight we walked a mile to the quaint, romantic, alive nightlife location at Rue Saint-Paul and ordered the Tarte Aux Pommes and the Pistach-OH! We enjoyed it so much it was hard saving some for our loved one back at the hotel! Its decorated beautifully with bright red painted antler chandeliers, and theres a sink in the main area for hand washing. Really nice touches. Make sure you stop by Queues de Castor!

Also known as Beavertails, it's such a delicious treat. This is not your regular fried dough, be sure not to pass this up. From a far this looks like either a solid funnel cake, or a large zeppole but it's more crispy on the outside and warm, soft on the inside covered in sugar. There are rich flavors like chocolate and banana, apple cinnamon or a Killalole Sunrise which is just lemon and sugar which is pretty refreshing if you've been food touring Montreal and are looking for something lighter. There is limited seating inside and the wait for your order is reasonable. There are also photos of the selections on the wall menu display to help figure out the many choices that tickle your fancy.

My first beaver tail was delicious! Staff were really kind, friendly, and helpful. The ambiance of the store felt very Canadian-esque.

Who doesnt like Beaver tails in quebec. Deep fried dough with your selection of toppings. ItIt'uniquely canadian and a must at all festivals. I enjoy the apple pie or the strawberry cheesecake.

I was told that I couldn't leave Montreal without having a beaver tail, so we made it happen! There are many options for what to pile on your fried dough - banana Rama was delicious. It is not healthy- buttery, sugary goodness topped with chelate similar to that of Nutella and bananas. Yum, yum yum! They have ice cream that can be eaten separately or on top of the beaver tail. On top it went! Worth the calories? YUP! Big enough to share with another person too!

My family and I went to Montreal and tried the legendary Beavertails. Honestly, I thought I'd not be impressed but boy was I wrong. This was amazing, we even went the next day to get more because we were HOOKED! Not gonna lie, already thinking of going back just to get more beavertails. Try the maple flavored, you'll not regret it! The workers were really nice, the service was top notch. And lastly the ambiance was perfect!

My favorite was def the pistachio but the strawberry was surprisingly amazing as well. The jam was so fresh and rich. All the creams oozed out (dare I say, too much yummy goodness?? The reviews looked great, so we made our way over for some bakes. I assume La Cave gets its name from the fact that you are kinda entering a cave. The bakery is located in a basement surrounded in stone both on the exterior and interior. The bakery isn't large, but it's arranged in a way that foot traffic flows well. They have a good variety of bakes, though we were there relatively late in the day so some had already run out. Despite that, we had several to choose from. We decided to go with the ham and cheese croissant and one of their stuffed croissants. The former was pretty standard - there's wasn't a lot of ham but the flavor was there. The latter was one of those viral circular croissants that have been popular on social media; they had three flavors and I went with the lemon meringue. It was pretty good - it had a good ratio of stuffing to pastry and the lemon curd had a bright flavor. Service as good, the team was eager to help and super efficient. Overall, I had a good experience at La Cave a Manger - there are definitely some good bakes here and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try more of their menu.

While this storefront located in the middle of office buildings, when you walk inside the absolutely beautiful decorations remove you from the urban hustle and bustle. The other Pâtisserie Mahrousé location is the original, dating back to 1970 when it was started by a Syrian pastry chef. Was eager to try their fatayer, savory pastries. Surprised to learn that they didn't sell here single, individual Fatayers, I was extremely happy the super friendly staff allowed me to mix and match to make it a pack of 6! (My choice of Fatayers included the delicious Tomato with Olives, Spinach, Cheese and round Za'atar!) Before pulling away, my brother and his wife decided to join me inside. The welcoming people behind Pâtisserie Mahrousé's counter encouragingly offered us tastings of their delicious sweets. One was a Kunafeh sweet cheese pastry, another similar to a nut filled Baklava. Their mouthwatering sweet treat selection was impressive. (Note - Many traditionally incorporate pistachios, on trend since as I've repeatedly noted "Pistachio is the new Hazelnut!") We were able to truly relax in Pâtisserie Mahrousé's comfortable window seating with brass tables facing the well designed interior instead of the modern surroundings. An effective, well thought out layout! While my brother ordered an espresso, I tried their flavorful, thick Arabic coffee. It achieved an unanticipated moment of zen for us all! Would recommend here for anybody interested in a delightful sweet or savory bite! Looking forward to my next time in Montreal when I plan on making the original Pâtisserie Mahrousé location a stop on my trip!

The Long Version: My husband and I were flaking in our hotel room after walking around all day (15km). I then had a hankering for some dessert. I did a quick search online and found this Middle Eastern bakery only 400m from our hotel room. So we headed there. The bakery is very pretty. I loved the chandeliers and painted walls and ceiling. There's a limited amount of seating, but we planned on bringing it back to our hotel anyway. Upon entering we were offered a small sample of their cream kunafe with shredded phyllo. It was very tasty. I debated getting a large piece of it, but decided to stick with my original plan which was a piece of their cheese kunafe. It was $8.50. I got it heated up. Unfortunately by the time we got back to the hotel it had cooled down a bit and the cheese wasn't as pully, lol. So my cheese pull photos are not as impressive :( Nonetheless, the kunafe was delicious. I think it would have been even better had we eaten it there. Next time! Review #74 (2025)

I ordered my raspberry and custard danish to pair with my Americano coffee... but I also wanted something more substantial so I went with the pancetta. Well, I thought I was ordering the pancetta, when I pointed at the item with the sign for it, it was actually a ham and cheese croissant...but until they served it I didn't know that's what I had pointed to. When I questioned it that it didn't look like pancetta they said that people always mix that up... I guess maybe they ought to display it differently, but they happily made me the pancetta and I took it to go because at that point I had already bit into the ham and cheese and that along with the danish and coffee, it was enough for then... They didn't charge me for the pancetta! That was NICE, so I gave them an extra tip in the jar, because they were very gracious about it. The danish was very good and went nicely with the coffee. I enjoyed my window seat overlooking the street (until the bee came....) Later, when I went to eat the pancetta, I unwrapped it and found it to be barely filled with any meat, but certainly plenty of greens. It wasn't pleasant, so I didn't really take but a couple bites before throwing that away. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, if that's how it normally comes. Overall I'd go again and order the danish and coffee. The ham and cheese was actually pretty good too. But I'd be careful on the pancetta.. maybe it was a one-off situation.
