I just took Marty's and Kanoa's handgun safety course. It was great. The atmosphere was fun and loose but serious about the important stuff. Most people passed the course, but not everyone, which tells me they have integrity and a sense of responsibility about what they're doing. You can expect the course to cover some state and federal law about firearm ownership, general information about the parts of handguns and ammunition, safety, maintenance, vocabulary, and use. Would recommend for people of all levels looking for an introduction to firearm safety. read more

I'm retired military, so I been through my fair share of shooting classes and let me tell you, KMConcepts tops the classes that I been through. Kanoa is a very knowledgeable and charismatic instructor...he has a natural ability to teach firearms fundamentals and safety, while keeping the class interesting and entertaining. Also, while learning how to hold, handle and fire the handgun, he and Martin were very patient, detailed and encouraging. We shot a variety of handguns starting from smaller caliber with less kick and gradually moving to hire caliber with a little kick. We also got a chance to try out a revolver. In my opinion, this helps with those students who never shot a gun before. Our class was mixed with my 17 year old son being the youngest to an older couple (my guess about 60-70s) that never shot a handgun before. My husband wanted to sign us up for a handgun safety class, which I hesitated until he signed us up with KMConcepts located in Kaneohe. There was a special price for handgun classes that we were able to sign up online. Kanoa was quick in responding and I was able to provide the necessary info to register. Prior to class, Dan and I drove to Kaneohe to check out where they are located. If you're familiar where Cutter Dodge is located, their business is located across the street on the second floor. Handgun safety classes consists of classroom morning sessions and then afternoon sessions at Koko Head Gun Range. In the class, you'll learn safety and Hawaii laws. You will also have the chance to practice on props as well as look at different type of hand guns from .22 caliber to the cowboy gun (revolver). Initially-prior to class, I wanted a small cute gun but after Kanoa and Martin explained how important it was to have a good hand grip and the reasons why, I tossed that choice out the window. I tossed it further out the window when we were at Koko Head Gun Range and learning how to load the bullets as well as learning how to change target sheets. I honestly was scared to handle a hand gun but Kanoa and Martin are right there guiding you on how to hold, your stance and helping you with aiming as accurately as possible. This review is based on the people or person who makes the custom kydex holsters. I really wanted to like this company and especially support local companies, but I have not had a good experience at all with these guys from start to finish. First of all, I first inquired about their Gen 2 pterodactyl wing appendix holsters back on March 22, 2018 (documented all through instagram messages). At the time, when I asked about the holsters, they told me that it would be a very easy and simple process. Just stop by, bring the gun and mag, costs $75 and about 10 days to make once the order is officially made. Sounded like a very good deal to me since mainland companies charge more and usually take longer than 2 weeks. But then this is where it started going downhill. I did not end up getting a holster back in March, but then messaged them on June 2 about holsters. No response. Ok whatever. Then, finally, in September, I pulled the trigger and decided to get a holster made. I remember just grabbing my pistol and mag, taking it to the shop and asking them if they could make the custom holster for me. At this time, it must have been September 5 because thats when my card was charged for it. And 6 months after I first communicated with them about it being $75, I paid $93 and some change (I did get a kryptek highlander camo print, so I expected it to be a little more). This is where I messed up and did not ask how long it would take them. I honestly assumed it would take 6 to 8 weeks to make since mainland companies that I follow say they take about that long for custom kydex holsters. But I remembered they mentioned 10 days, so then I messaged them again on the 15th, and no response. I remember calling them several times asking about it. Many times, I ask them about it and whoever answers the call always says that they would call me back, they are with a customer. But then they never call back. I would call the next day and they would say sorry, they forgot, and then tell me that they are working on my holster. I think I called them once every 2 weeks just to see if there was any progress, but they just kept saying they were working on it, never mentioning how much longer it would take. Then I messaged them on ig again on November 26. At this point I was getting impatient and not happy with little to no communication from them. And by this point, I tell them that I understand that people are busy especially with the holidays around the corner, but I told them it would be greatly appreciated to get some form of communication from them. And Im pretty sure right before I messaged them on this day, I actually went in to the shop to see how the holster was going. I remember the person at the shop said to just message them on instagram, so thats what I did. They actually messaged me back saying sorry and that they would give me a date they expected to be finished. Waited 5 days, still no reesponse so I messaged them back on December 1. They got back to me December 4, saying they will TRY and finish it up on Saturday (December 8). Mind you all, this is already over 3 months of waiting for their product. Then on December 12, I called them again and asked about the progress. Hallelujah!! They said it was finished (Once again, I called them, they didnt call me). So I go to the shop that day to pick it up, excited, relieved, but frustrated. First impression was that it looked great. The mag part was kind of loose, but can be tightened by the rentioning screw so no problem. So then I go back to my truck and examine it more. And with a closer look, I noticed that there was no pterodactyl wing installed, which is supposed to push against the inside of your belt to bring the pistol closer to your body. Good thing I didnt leave the parking lot. I immediately take the holster back and ask them about it. But as to no surprise, the guy at the shop didnt know where to find them or if they even had them in stock (I am a lefty, so they probably didnt even have left-handed wings). So the guy tells me sorry once again and that they will have to order some and they will get back to me. Also mentioning to just ig message them. So I messaged them as soon as they got back in my truck asking them to please get back to me as soon as possible about the wing since I felt that it is an important part of an appendix kydex holster (especially if their product is called the pterodactyl wing holster). And on ig, it shows if they see the message and as of today, December 18, 2018, they have seen it but still have not responded. Unfortunately, I give up with this company. I already have been looking online for individual wings to buy. I really wanted to support them and like them, since they have good reivews, but have to give them a 1 star based on this terrible experience. I guess ill go back to looking at holster companies in the mainland. It sounds like they are great with the firearm classes, but I honestly cant back up their holster business. read more

I truly hate classroom settings and sitting in one place for multiple hours but this class was so fun, informative and it flew by. And even tho 6 hours in the classroom felt like 2 i learned so much. The instructors Kanoa and Marten managed to make the class fun (and sometimes funny) without taking away from the seriousness of gun safety, the laws surrounding gun ownership, and the mishaps that may occur. The second portion of the class was at Kokohead shooting range and again, was so much fun. The instructors were so patient and did a great job making us feel comfortable around the firearms. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to learn about gun safety/handling and gun ownership. Hours of research provided my with he knowledge to make the decision to take the Gun Safety Class with KMConcepts. It was the right choice. Marty & Kanoa made the class interesting and not boring. Sliding in some local humor all the while stressing the importance of 'Safe Handling.' The instruction provided went from Pistol to Long Gun, parts and operation, Laws and SAFETY, SAFETY and more SAFETY was stressed throughout the class. The saying of the day in my opinion was "point your gun in the safest direction" which proved to be the most important while watching some videos on gun safety. What can happen does happen! I am a former military veteran who was trained in safe gun handling and was still impressed with the quality of instruction provided. I must admit I was a little rusty but the patience and professionalism of Marty and Kanoa made me able to perform per their instructions. At least I hit the targets, lol. I can't stress enough about anyone wanting to get the safe gun course done is to take this class. You will come out with all the knowledge (and less confusion) on owning and safe handling of a gun. I attended the Handgun Safety Class with Kanoa and Marty. I learned a lot about Hawaii Laws, purchasing and registering, how to hold, aim and fire a firearm, rules and regulations of Kokohead Shooting Complex. When I found out the classroom time was gonna be 4hrs, I thought I was going to have to try to keep myself from falling asleep. But these guys make class fun by having everyone participate. I think due to Covid, we had only a class of 9 (I think one person was no show) and was spaced apart with hand sanitizers always available. But I think the smaller class was better. They also took us on a walking tour of Kokohead Shooting Complex. And they have reasonable prices on firearms and accessories in their shop. These guys are truly pros in what they do. read more

What a great class. I attended for fun and to be more comfortable around guns (which involved wanting to know the parts of the gun and what does what,..etc). They even go through the laws thoroughly. I got 4 rounds of practice shooting a real gun and decided which one I was comfortable with! The more I shot, the more comfortable I got with knowing what to do. I felt so proud of myself. Me and my wife were interested in buying a handgun for my birthday. I had already been out of the military for a while and hadn't touched a pistol in almost 4 years. I figured if nothing else, I could use a refresher. The wife decided to get her qualification as well. We both woke up early on Saturday and headed to KMC for our class. A note about the class: I searched extensively for handgun courses and everywhere else wanted a significant amount more. KMConcept prices were better and they had a class in the timeframe I wanted. The classroom portion was informative but if you've been through firearm courses before, understand that it is a lot of the same information you've heard before. If you haven't, there is great information on firearm safety rules and the fundamentals of shooting (which can be applied to rifles if you want to expand later on). After the Class portion we made our way to lunch then we met at the range afterward. The range portion was a lot of fun. For me, having only shot a Baretta M9 service pistol I was really excited to get my hands on something new. I also found out that I pretty much hate all glocks, none of them fit right in my hand and I didn't enjoy firing them. This was great information so I knew what to stay away from when purchasing my pistol. We received our certificates the same day and I purchased my firearm the next day. A few weeks later (5 days ago, at the time of writing this review) I decided I wanted to change the sights on my gun. Again, I searched high and low for a gunsmith to take care of this when the obvious answer hit me, I made a quick call and KMC was again the cheapest option out there, I dropped my pistol off and went to the gym right up the street when I came back just 2 hours later my pistol had been taken care of and I was out the door. I also picked up a box of hollow points that they had at a great price as well. Okay, really long review but I think it's important to recognize superior customer service. These guys are great, they will take care of you and I'm looking forward to doing more work with them in the future. read more

We did the Basic Handgun course over the weekend with KMConcepts. The classroom portion was a bit slow, but understandably so as the material presented is very important to provide to newbies. Kanoa and Marty did their best to keep the energy level as high as possible. They really seem to genuinely enjoy what they do and that's always nice. When we got to the range, we were able to try a variety of firearms, which helped provide context as far as what may suit you best. Personally, I was extremely nervous going into the actual firearms portion, but Marty was supportive and patient and my nerves passed quickly. Overall, I have nothing but fantastic things to say about these guys. Hands-on handgun and long gun shooting at Kokohead was a blast (pun intended) with an emphasis on safety, protocol, and technique. Two thumbs up and would definitely recommend to those who want to brush up on their knowledge as well as those that are considering owning firearms. Excellent Class! very clear instructions, we got to handle the pistols, magazines, and ammo in class. They explained the laws and process for buying a gun. And they explained the range protocols. Took a rifle session with Kanoa. Point of impact was about a cantaloupe prior. Now it's a little bigger than an orange. No messing with the sights (windage and elevation). He coached me on my finger placement and brightness of optic. That's a whole 2 inches closer impacts! Wording things in a way that I would understand also. read more

Great experience yesterday. The guys were very knowledgeable about all facets of owning a gun, from guns laws to cleaning the arms after use. I especially liked the way that they had three teachers/trainers as the class as it would have gotten boring and monotonous. After lunch, we went down to Koko Head Shooting Range to fire handguns, rifles and a shotgun. Even the other patrons at the range were pleasant and un-intimidating. My advice is to bring a few cold beverages to cool you down as it gets pretty warm out there. Not sure if they sell cold drinks there, but at the skeet range they sell them for a buck. read more

I called KM Concepts to help me extract a jammed .223 plastic dummy round from my son's AR-15. He was perfroming immediate action drills and it got stuck at 12 o'clock between the bolt and upper receiver; halfway visible in the ejection port. I could see the dummy round lodged good; half of it between the bolt assembly and the upper receiver and the other half in the chamber at a 20-degree downward angle. I didn't want to go rooting around the ejection port with a screw driver and needle nose pliers; scratching and damaging a good rifle. The team at KM Concepts told me to come down to see what they could do and I did. After waiting less than 5 minutes, they extracted the jammed dummy round and even gave me a box to carry out the rifle (I forgot the gun case). Best of all, they didn't charge me anything; no matter how hard I tried to pay them. What an awesome bunch of guys working for a great company with fantastic customer service. Took a pistol class with Kanoa today and even though Ive been shooting for a while I was still able to learn a lot and fix a lot of things I was doing wrong this whole time!! Very easy to understand the drills and concepts he teaches. The facility and environment is very nice to train in I will definitely be back for more. Kanoa and Marty are great people very nice and helpful!! They also have a bunch of accessories and gear for different weapon systems there. Not very many places on Oahu to shoot in this kind of environment if you are just civilian so pretty kool for us regular guys haha!!!
