Need a guard card!? Look no further than Transcend. I was in need of a guard card and fortunately…read moremy training was paid for. The booking process is easy and available online. The course is an 8 hour in class training. The classroom is located off Piikoi and Kapiolani in the National Bank Building. Parking isn't available. Pro tip is to park at Ala Moana and walk over. It's a two minute walk from the Foodland farms parking. As for the class it started at 8:30 am which I think it the typical time. My class size was actually pretty small (6) which made it great for conversational learning. Typically the class is about 20-30 people or so. You need to bring an ID to verify your registration. Then you receive your test packet and answer key. The class covers all the state mandated topics need to attain your guard card. Each topic is broken down and then your are tested on it. It's not difficult, just pay attention and you will be fine. At the end of the day you will receive your guard certification. The instructor/owner of Transcend is Jeff. He is absolutely amazing. He is very personable and professional. He also makes the content easy to understand and also has a good sense of humor. He made the day go by quite quickly and he allowed us to take breaks and we also breakers for lunch. I enjoyed his class and will definitely be getting my continued education training from Transcend when I need to get my renewal in a couple years. If your looking for a professional to lead a workplace violence or terroristic threatening preparedness class I would highly recommend him. His experience along with his teaching methods are very effective and extremely helpful.

I'm not saying it was the best I've ever been to, but it was as good as any I have ever been to. As people however, I do not think you will find a more pure soul and two people with more Aloha in their being than Jeff and his lovely wife Char. Thanks for making an educational experience a fun and meaningful one.

Over the 20-years that we have been in business we have literally hired thousands and thousands of CNAs at the eight companies we own and operate throughout the State. After a while you start noticing patterns and one of the patterns that we have noticed that compared to most CNA schools, Healthcare Training & Career Consultants (HT&CC) does a GREAT job of preparing CNAs for the workforce. And it's not just me, I have heard Directors of Nursing, HR Managers, and Administrators tell me that they get excited when they see that a CNA applying for a job graduated from HT&CC because they have noticed that HT&CC students tend to come to work far better prepared than most. We have notice that HT&CC graduates seem more comfortable assisting with the activities of daily living, but it's also the little things like already knowing the importance of knocking before entering a room - this is a dignity issue, the critical need to wash hands before and after caring for a patient, providing privacy and blanket coverage when giving a bed bath, even knowing the normal ranges of blood pressure, heart rates, and breathing - things that you would expect that a RN would know but not necessarily a CNA. HT&CC graduates come to work already knowing these things that may seem small to most, but are critical to providing quality care. So when I am asked for recommendation for a CNA school or if one of my daughters wanted to become a CNA, I would without hesitation encourage them to attend HT&CC. And if you want to work as a CNA, know that when we see that a CNA job applicant is a recent graduate from HT&CC they automatically move to the very top of our interview list. Literally waited 6 days to recieve a call back from a lady name mendy or mini or something like that who not only was very impatient to me but disrespectful. Litterally had to give her my name 6 exact times before she finally got it right THEN to add insult to me she began to talk smart to me though as if my my name is the problem. After saying she would send me the package for enrollment i waited and waited and called back to get voice mail the rest of the morning. Still no enrollement package Now angry i called to speak to a supervisor who name is supposedly Jessica who is neither responsive to voice mails neither picked up the phone all morning. How do you expect people to want to enroll when the trash answering phones there is being rude and some not even picking up. PLEASE DONT USE THIS COMPANY. I FOUND IT MUCH EASIER TO JUST GO TO KCC WHERE THEY WANT STUDENTS. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND this place or services to anyone who respects their time. You guys deserve a zero for customer support. Trash!

I had a really good time getting my CNA certification here. I'm not saying the school couldn't use…read moreany room for improvement, but I definitely learned a lot and made some great friends along the way. I had just finished my first semester of UH Nursing School when I took the CNA course, so I think that did give me some advantages. A lot of what I was learning was review, but it definitely was NOT as easy as I had thought it would be. Here are some tips if you are taking the CNA class. This is for the WAIPAHU AM class. I can't comment on the Honolulu classes or the Waipahu Evening class. - Get your TB and physical exam requirements done BEFORE you start the class. Seriously. - Do not park in the lot directly in front of the building or you will get towed. Park in the slanted stalls to the left (when you are facing the building) or the stalls in front of Max's. There is always ample parking close to the building. The Kalihi location parking is very tricky. - If you are a nursing student (or anyone else) and you signed up for Package A, make sure that you have your First Aid Certification. A majority of us didn't realize that we had our CPR certifications, but NOT First Aid. You need both for clinicals. We had to end up paying $40 to take the First Aid course at the Kalihi location in order to get the certification to take clinicals. - About 18 or 19 people out of the 27 in our class were already enrolled in nursing programs (bachelor's to become an R.N.). Most of these were from Chaminade, 3 of us were from UH, and 2 were at HPU. The rest were either people trying to get their feet wet in the healthcare field or were eventually trying to get into an LPN or RN program. - The class was LARGE. 27 people in a tiny classroom. If you are able to, try to get into a class that is smaller so you get more individualized attention and simply because the room was just way too small for all of us. - If you are signed up for the Waipahu location, don't expect everything to be at Waipahu. The clinicals are in town (Convalescent Center of Hawaii by Kuakini Hospital). Also, the First Aid/CPR course and the medical terminology classes are in town at the Kalihi location. Most people end up carpooling, but keep that in mind, especially if you don't have a car. - The stethoscope and BP kit that come with Package B and C aren't the best. They'll get you by just fine enough for the course, but if you're planning on making healthcare a career, I would highly suggest investing in a Littman stethoscope. - Since class is 6 days a week, I would also recommend having at LEAST 2 pairs of the white scrubs, but preferably 3 unless you plan on re-wearing your scrubs without washing them or doing laundry constantly. HT&CC sells them for $28 a pair which is pretty reasonable, but there might be other places on island that sell them for cheaper. If you have lots of time before your class starts, try looking online for white scrubs. I'm sure they're cheaper online. - Keep in mind that when you take the CNA training course, you get a certificate from HT&CC that says you completed the course. HOWEVER, you are NOT a Certified Nurse Assistant until you complete and successfully pass the American Red Cross exam, which is $275 or $285 if you take it through HT&CC. Until you pass the American Red Cross exam, you are only qualified to work as a Nurse Aid. NOT a "Certified" Nurse Aid/Assistant. The fail rate is high for the ARC license exam, so prepare in advance. - The Waipahu classroom A/C works a little too well, so bring a jacket. - There are plenty of places to eat around the Waipahu location. Much better food selection than the Kalihi location in my opinion. You have Leeward Drive-Inn, Thelma's, Max's, Golden Coin, L&L, Kin Sing, Jollibee, 7-11, Pacific Supermarket, etc all a super short walk away. Try to bring home lunch if you can to save money and calories. None of these fast food places are healthy. - The instructors switch out almost every day, but we had about 3 consistent instructors. Norma and Dr. Danao were our main instructors. Both of them have completely different teaching styles, but they were both great. - The book that is included with the course is actually really well-written and concise. I actually ordered the official American Red Cross Nurse Assistant textbook used through Amazon (for $19), and it was WAY thicker and more dense. There is a free online version of the ARC textbook online on the ARC website. - If you have tattoos, they will still let you take the course and attend clinicals, but you will have to cover them up. - No water fountains at the Waipahu building, bring your own water. - Clinicals are at Convalescent. Carpool b/c there is extremely limited street parking & parking at Kuakini is super expensive. Have fun :) It really is a good class.
