Beautiful course BUT, I rented a set of clubs since this was my first time golfing. I was on the 14th tee box when the head flew off my driver. When I got to the clubhouse to return my clubs, they charged me $60 for the driver! This was after I had already paid to rent the clubs. The whole MCCS program is like the mafia. read more

Klipper at MCBH Kaneohe Bay is my most enjoyed and hated military course! Enjoyed for the beautiful views and enjoyable play; hated because I lose so many balls...but I enjoy the challenge. The service staff is great and always helpful and friendly. The facilities are well maintained and nothing looks run down. One of my favorite things about this (any) course, they let you hit off the grass at the range...I loathe the artificial feel of hitting off the mats. This course is beautiful. The fairways are great, long and mostly straight, with a fair amount of challenge along the way. I wish every hole were a par 5...but doesn't everybody? Only a few challenging fairways but they make the course more interesting. There isn't a lot of shade like at Leilehua, so they put down plenty of little "ball-hungry shrubs" all over the place to make up for it. It also gets pretty hot out there so wear sunblock and hydrate. The greens are well maintained but they are fickle and they get more difficult as the day goes on. My short game becomes less of a game and more of a punishment as sun gets higher. The greens get pretty fast and the slope on some of the holes can pull your ball from one fringe to the other. The rate of play is relaxed (so are the marshalls) but we rarely get jammed up. When there is a delay, it is usually becuase some young service members are having fun with the golf carts or otherwise goofing off. If you have an opportunity to play this course you won't be dissappointed. Just remember to bring a few sleeves...just in case. :D read more

Wow... the back nine.... the scenery is just AMAZING! You're right along the coast, it's beautiful!!!!! This course is not the most well groomed - I guess I may be somewhat spoiled after playing at Ko'Olina, now that course is well groomed. Klipper is nice though and the course itself is fun to play! Lots of par 5 and par 3s! And it's definitely not an easy course, but that makes it challenging and fun! The folks in the pro shop and the workers on the course were all very kind and helpful. It was a great time! This course is very very busy on the weekends so expect to be waiting a bit. But it's part of the game! And we went as a two-some, and because they were packed, they added single players to our group. By the 9th hole, we ended up in a four-some. So expect that too if you go as a two some. Now....parking takes a while because if you are a civilian, you need to get a parking pass and that process takes a while. My tee time was at 12:06, I got there by 11:15am, and by the time I got my parking pass, I got to the pro shop by 11:45am, just in time to check in. So don't go right at your tee time, give yourself a lot of time to get that parking pass, otherwise it's a bit stressful. I was somewhat stressed when I got there because the line for the parking pass was super long! Definitely a course worth checking out!!! Awesome! read more

IF yyou can get on base and play this course, DO SO. The course is in great condition, greens are some of the best in the state. The views on the back nine ( 13, 14, 15) are outstanding. Stay in the fairway to score well. Staff is friendly and helpfull, practice area is good. Course is usually windy. Beautiful course, especially for the price! 3 ocean front holes, and the front 9 has great mountain views. Other nice features include GPS on the carts, and lots of stations to refill your water bottles with cold water. The only disappointment was that there are only port-of-potties on the course, no real restrooms (if you hurry at the turn you are able to swing back to the club house to the restroom though). We also ate at the grill after our round and were pleased with the wide variety of items on the menu from Loco-Moco to Fish sandwiches, and of course all the standard burgers etc. Golf shop also had a large selection of shirts and other things. read more

5/10/08: Awesome golf course, holes 13 and 14 are probably one of the best here in Hawaii - incredible scenic vistas - imagine hitting off a tee box where there are waves crashing on the beach and reef right next to you. Very windy which makes the course much tougher, especially on some of the par three's that are straight into the wind. 19th holes (aka "Fairways") serves beer by the pitcher and a wide variety of food. All at great prices (and tax free since this is a marine base). You'll need someone in the armed services to make tee-time reservations here and also get access to the base. read more

This course is not bad for the price. Similar to Hickam's Mamala Bay, this course is on the water in Kaneohe, and is pretty windy. There are occasional passing showers also since it is on the windward side, but most go through quickly. We played here (second time) this past weekend, and had a decent time, but our round took 5 hours. For the course itself, it is medium sized, with solid greens. The course is challenging because of the wind, but generally speaking it isnt too difficult. They have a driving range (grass), large practice putting green, a chipping/sand practice area, and their carts have electronic viewers. My only complaint was that the foursome infront of us, playing a little intoxicated, were playing slower than I have ever seen, and worst of all, playing disrespectfully. It was so bad, that on 9-10 occasions, we saw them throwing clubs 50yrds across the course because they were upset with their shot. They also left their clubs three different times, because they were trhowing them all over. We returned them, but probably shouldnt have! The line behind us was about 7 carts at one point, as we waited to hit our second shots because they were messing around on the green. While not directly the fault of the course, we did not see the marshal once. Amazingly, at the end, we were only 11 min off the pace, although I dont know who plays a 4 hr 45 min round of golf. All in all, we didnt play great as we waited 10 min between shots on the back 9. It got boring fast. I like the course and at $50 it isnt bad at all. But those guys ruined our day for sure. (At least it didnt rain though). read more

Killer course, very well maintained, nice staff, crazy views of Hawaii's K Bay, and EXCELLENT 19th hole (wink wink)! I am currently taking lessons from Leland Lindsey (course Pro) and HE IS THE BEST! His instruction and service is first class - easy to understand instruction, very relaxed, with a quirky sense of humor thrown in. Fabulous ocean views and well maintained greens. The Samuel Adams Grill is super cheap good tasting food. Obama and former presidents play golf here. Obama stays offbase at a friend's home nearby but the Bush's stay on base to be close to the troops. The players and helpers are very nice here. The fairways are a little rough but the greens are in good shape. Must be hard to keep the fairways in perfect condition with the ocean so close otherwise I would give it 5 stars. read more

The staff is 5 star all by themselves! The course is beautiful. This is a challenging, but fun course to play. If you are military, do NOT waste money playing some 'resort' course. This is resort like and far less $$$$. read more

Just played here for the first time and it is easily one of the most enjoyable courses to play. It's fun for both low and high handicappers- wide, generous fairways and and waste areas for beginners and options to shorten the holes for the better players who can work the the ball. Conditions: Very good. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were lush. Greens were excellent. They looked like they were aerated a few weeks ago and were almost fully recovered. Once that happens, watch out! Course: The course throws so many different things at you off the tee- wide open sight lines to blind shots to elevated shots with dramatic scenery. Great variety. This course doesn't need fast greens to make it exciting to play. One hole you've got a straight ahead view of the green and the next you've got a slightly blind elevated shot. The mix of different sight lines and options off the tees throughout the round is fantastic. Add that to generous fairways and you have a recipe for hero golf that's fun but fair (no one makes you pull the trigger). Most of the greens slope back to front so staying below the hole is a must. Some of the sloping is very dramatic, like the par 5 that's straight with OB all the way down the left and slopes right to left (#10?). Once that green fully recovers it'll be a difficult par. A review of Klipper cannot be completed without mentioning the ocean front holes. These holes are just as everyone described- beautiful. They play from elevated tees and that just adds to the whole experience. Pictures don't capture how special the area is- you'll have to see for yourself. read more

Although I have yet to actually play at the golf course it looks pretty well maintain and the views while in the area are one of a kind. They have a golf course, driving range, and putting green. They also have a eatery right there on the property and a golf shop. I usually go there just for the eatery and sometimes just to hit a couple of balls at he driving range. The food is served fast and the facility is really nice. Never had a problem at this place. I think if you check-in here you get a free bucket of balls, so take advantage! read more

Outstanding golf course with what everyone knows are three tee boxes with some of the best views.

This must be the nicest golf course associated with any military base. Just wait for the back nine for confirmation of this! Normally to golf on a course this nice you could be looking at triple digit green fees, but this course has just the normal rates you'd expect on most military courses. All this being said, we picked the wrong day to golf this visit. They were aerating the back nine and they were closed that day. They warned us about the aeration when we made our tee time, but it was not clear they were actually doing it this day and we would not be able to access the most beautiful nine holes of military golf. Oh well, we still golfed the first nine twice while watching a C-17 (heavy cargo jet) do "touch and goes". Took me right back to my days as a C-17 pilot. Still cool to watch even after having done this hundreds of times myself. Despite not having golfed at all for over a year, I actually had one of my best rounds of golf ever (not counting my mulligans, of course :) read more

This course is not kid friendly as advertised. I could not hit golf balls on their driving range with a toddler in a stroller. When I asked to see the regulation governing this, they refused to produce. They kicked me off but allowed the obnoxious group on the other side of the range who where acting unsafe to stay. This is a great course, the par 4's and 5's are all long, the fairways reasonably wide and relatively forgiving, yet challenging enough to keep you in check. The 13th and 14th holes along the beach are also spectacular, with awesome vistas. In the past, i've seen people catching waves, boats going by and humpback whales breaching all as i'm rolling down the fairway of the 13th. Try to find that anywhere else in the world! read more

This is one of the tougher tracks that I've played, but the scenery makes it worthwhile. Pace of play is ok on the weekdays, but can be ridiculously slow on the weekend. It's tolerable, as long as you don't have somewhere to be after your round. I would strongly suggest reading the course guide, as your approach strategy is extremely important. After playing Royal Hawaiian this course was more like what I am accustomed to in looking for a relaxing round of golf. The course is generally flat with slight dog legged shaped fairways. It's essentially a muni type course with a few stunning ocean vistas. As mentioned by other Yelpers holes 13 - 16 are incredibly beautiful, but each tee box on these holes requires complete attention to the task at hand as the risk of error is ever present w/ a far haul to the fairway from tee box and plenty of trouble left and right of the immediate fairway. The locals I golfed w/ stated that the coastal holes are sacred burial grounds and are marked as environmental hazards so they are marked appropriately. I'm not sure it that is fact or rumor but is an interesting story anyway. A few dislikes were numerous places on the fairway where the divots looked like they had not been repaired. I quickly learned that the bulk of local golfers on this course opt for a pull cart in order to save $10 - $20. That means no filler sand available (unless riding a cart) to be used after making a divot and if the divot is not replaced. It also looked like several areas of many fairways had been used for practice in that you could draw a circle around a 10 foot area and find 20 unfixed divots in that circle. I also disliked the fact that a couple of holes restricted your tee shot to an iron. I believe hole number 8 (slight dog-leg to the left) did so as did another hole on the course. The signs stated that the reason was for respect of the courses neighbor homes, but I don't think hitting a hybrid would have been an issue. Overall it was a good course at a value price of $40. The starter was very helpful and I would return and play here again. read more

This course is incredible, and as a military dependent, I feel EXTREMELY fortunate to be able to play this course. The views you get on the back nine (starting at #13) are first class. The rest of the course is challenging, interesting, and well maintained. Staff is super friendly - every starter I've interacted with is SO nice and helpful. Above and beyond. I've been to this course five or six times, and I'm no pro and neither are my friends but we've all had fun every visit so far. The prices are based on rank, and for a lowly E-5 nine holes of golf with a cart and rental clubs was only $26! My friend also brought two guests who also paid the same military price. The course is very pretty to look at and showcases some great views on the 13th and 14th holes. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend and probably tag along too haha. read more

Finally got to play this course and Leilehua course. This course is absolutely a gorgeous players course. The comparison of the two to review is to say the Kaneohe Klipper is your resort course whilst Leilehua is your home public course. This course have the view of the mountain and the ocean. Long enough to be challenging but any bad shots is forgiven because you're lucky to be playing here. The envy is the price for military and DOD compared to civilian guest but even then it is much cheaper than most Honolulu course of upward of $100-199 each player. Civilians, you need to get someone to sponsor you in, a not to miss course! To play, you need to call the course for tee time at least 5 days in advance. They need yours and guest Social security number to give to the gate. Go to the gate and get a pass, your name and guest name should already be there for date of arrival, car registration and safety check is needed. For rental car, bring the lease agreement. To return to play again, I would leave out Leilehua and play this course twice. read more

I've golfed this course about five or six times and had relatively similar experiences every time. They start every golfer on the first hole and always end up backed up by the first par 3. They maintain a beautiful course however with the close tee times and having everybody teeing off on the front 9 rounds take much longer than usual. On top of that there is usually no course marshal to maintain a pace of play past the first hole. Aside from that the golf carts tend to work for the most part and the pro shop is pretty nice..... Make sure to get a hot dog while you're waiting to tee off on 9... read more

Best course in the DoD. The back 9 could definitely rival Pebble Beach or any other beach front course in the US. Its absolutely breathtaking. The course is well maintained and the greens fees are significantly less than anywhere else you'll play on the island. We are so lucky to live on this course! read more

I hate to do this because I really like the golf course but it is in horrible condition. They blame all the rain, but that is not the issue on the greens they are dying brown everywhere with little or no grass. Until they fix them I strongly recommend playing elsewhere! read more

I concur with Larry H. We love this course and play every time in Hawaii but were really dissapointed this time. The course was in terrible shape. The greens were unputtable and the fairways just as bad. The one saving grace was that the back nine was not as bad as the front. I went the day before a tropical storm took place so the driving range was being taken down so I can't hold that against them. The fairways are a bit tight but not by hazards they are just cut that way and the rough truly is difficult to hit out of. The back 9 proved more difficult for me. Might have been spending more time looking at the scenery than the course. It's a beautiful back 9 right on the water. The greens weren't the best but they did aerate them a week ago but they were starting to come together nicely. Give it a few more days and I'm sure they will be good again. Also nothing I can hold against them. Overall I really enjoyed the course and for a military course it's possibly one of the best. read more

Aloha, Do yourself a favor if your local go get a Friends of K Bay pass it's the best $10 you will spend go online an find there web site takes about 2 months to receive it...My son an I just finished playing 18 holes ...WOW FANTASTIC, course was in tip top shape, putting green were as pure as they get. I lived here 36 years an was still amazed at the view at 13 along the pristine Beach .... Staff from inside to workers on the course Out Standing Job. They have the Sam Adams Bar and grill at the club house looked good but crowded at lunch I opted for the Officers Club, food was pretty good about a 7 (there is a pool there )Yes this pass allows you to go there an the bowling alley(no beach) they say if caught pass go bye bye.. There are other ways to book a tee time there ..give personal info Klipper Staff they forward to front gate but still hassles with drive in ......Get Friends of K Bay Pass hassle free .......Fourrrrrrr read more
