Really great course! The greens were phenomenal, and they are currently in the process of re doing their front nine so we will be coming back to golf that. It is loud (planes and helicopters and lots of wind) but it totally adds to the ambiance and makes it really fun. Can't be mad at a golf course for embracing its surroundings! Carts were great, prices were great, pace of play was nice. Customer service was great too! The only thing I docked a star for was the bathroom, it feels like it's in the middle of being renovated but there is no work being done. The women's room could use a little sprucing up! We approached the security gate and was refused entry. MP said my VHIC VA card was not registered with this base and that it cannot sponsor my 3 guest to play at Mamala Bay golf course. I search the requirement to play there and it states since 2020 VHIC enable me and my guest to play. I had played Kaneohe Klipper a couple years ago which also requires me to go to the check point building with my guest and allowed us to play there. So...WTF this MP is talking about? We left and went to the Navy Marine course that was off base a few miles away. Got on to pay in half an hour. Can't describe this course condition but Navy Marine course was great. Played there 3 times last year and 3 times this year. Who knows how many customers the MP are turning away. Got a phone message saying "I missed my tee time and did I forgot about it." Tried calling back at the phone number provided and the phone was not in service. I even searched and found "active service personnel number to call", to play and that was not in service. MP should update their knowledge of what Vets with VHIC card privileges are! Quite disappointed! Sorry for the bad review but if no matter if Mamala Bay course is a Championship Golf Course many are not able to see or play it. read more

Renovations have been their focus and we are finding that its become over grown, weedy and not well kept. Nobody is controlling the 1st or 10th hole so everyone goes off when they want and it backs up badly. We only went once this year. Usually we go several times while visiting oahu. They are very friendly, though. read more

Mamala Bay Golf Course located on Hickam Air Force Base is a fun 18 hole golf course. Relatively flat, open and wide this is a great course to play a round. Note - this course is located on a military base so not open to the general public. My favorite thing about this course is that an active runway shared by commercial jets and military aircraft wrap around the golf course. So when you're on the #6 hole, jets taxiing can see golfers as they are about to tee off. It's so cool. But one thing I get excited for is on the back 9 where you get a good view of the takeoff runway where pairs of F-22 Raptors are taking off. They are loud, so loud I wait for them to take off before I hit my ball. Mamala Bay is just a fun golf course with not to much difficulty so you can easily score if you just sink those tricky putts. read more

Been playing here for years every time I visit Honolulu. Charlie takes great care of us in the pro shop always smiling and enjoying life. The course is well kept and manicured. And the views! Wow! Several holes Border the ocean and on a few you get to see take offs and landings at the Honolulu International Airport as well as F22 Stealth Fighters practicing take offs and landings at Hickam AFB. Quick bite to eat between an all day training. I have never even set foot on this golf course property and I am disappointed it's taken this long. The views are amazing and the simple snack bar style menu is perfect. Its simple and the food hits home. I ordered the burger which was delicious and perfectly sized. My coworkers had the pancake, fried rice omelet (I love this too!), and the egg & bacon sandwhich. We all collectively agree this place is great and definitely will be back! read more

The course is always in good shape and the staff is very polite, this course never disappoints.

Played here twice so may update later. The fairways are nice and flat so your ball rolls out much farther than at the other places I play at. The holes are very long...which is nice because I feel like I get my money's worth the airplanes are Really close, it feels like you can see the people in the windows...but I dont ever remember looking at golfers...it's a bit hard to find from the gate so I only go with my girlfriend who has a pass to us there. Too bad they dont have a civilian program like the Klipper course. read more

Had a bad experience here with pro shop guy, I guess this is my bad review. Been here a few times and it seems there's aways different guys checking you in. Not sure the gentleman's name but it doesn't matter. If you don't like your job pls find another. We called to check if there was any available spots, the guy who answered said there weren't any t times available but we could walk on. Drove all the way here from Kapolei to wait for 2 hours. Supposedly waiting on the crossover but we still see guys getting on. The course is great, needs a little work but still good. read more

Mamala Bay is STILL our favorite once-a-month course to play. We always eagerly await our tournament and sometimes we'll try to get in a round or two extra within the month. We look forward to its challenges to our abilities and the lovely scenery that often distracts us. It's awesome to watch the commercial and Military planes takeoff and land. Played here several times over the past few months w/friends, but yesterday was the first time I played the twilight and was paired up with 2 other unknown golfers (thanks that they were cool dudes to play with since I am still learning the game). The twilight play is half price and starts at 330pm on the weekend (230 pm week days). Unfortunately the group ahead of us was really slow, but we were patience as they finished their round and our back nine went faster so we were able to get all 18 holes in. The staff was friendly and the course is decently maintained (some areas have been neglected and needs improvement). The view is great and the planes landing/departing in the back drop adds a unique experience. I don't mind the noise either, since I've worked around aircraft for the past 24 years. The overall golf outing at Mamala Bay is very good and I shot the best score yet. read more

Went to the range yesterday and had a good time with a friend who wanted to try golf. The range is mats only, but they are in good shape. Looks like the short game area hasn't been watered for a while. But if you normally play in hard pan, it will work for your game. The putting green was in good shape. It has more contours then most greens locally, but you can practice all sorts of putts. Friend had a good time and might be a player one day. read more

Golf course located on Hickam Air Force Base. You need military privileges to get past the front gate. The course is well maintained and quite long and flat. The course is on the base and the airport is in the background so you get to see a lot of planes landing, taking off, and taxiing out to the reef runway. Longer course than Navy Marine. Not as scenic as the Kaneohe Klipper. But not very busy because most can't get past the front gate security. read more

Aloha Golf fans! Went to this course for the 1st time yesterday and loved it. Although it was burning the neck HOT!...we all had a great time. Beautiful course along the water and so near the airport runway, I waved at the pilot as he was taxing and he waved back. I different experience and if you haven't been all the way out there, you might want to consider driving out there so you know where you're going. It's reasonable, affordable, got a tee time immediately, staff was courteous and friendly and the snack shop was pretty darn good :) Great atmosphere to relax in after a HOT round of morning Golf! read more

Mamala Bay has become my favorite Military course on Oahu and I've played them all. It's a beautiful course that is well maintained and staffed by some really nice folks that don't have the attitude you may find at other courses (*cough*Navy/Marine*cough*) on the island. The course is fairly challenging and there are plenty of obstacles along the way. This is one of those courses that can satisfy (most) golfers at any level. Overall, I'd say Mamala Bay is an 8.5/10 because of the hassle free play, great staff, and great play. Access: Mamala Bay is deep into Hickam Air Force Base past the beach and rec areas. Speed limit is 25mph nearly the entire way so it will take 10-15 minutes to get there from the gate. As with all military installations, you will need a CAC card, a vehicle pass, or a sponsor to get there but it is all worth it. There aren't any Starbucks on Hickam as far as I know, but you can stop by the Burger King on your way if you need a cup of joe before you tee off, but you'll have more options at Moanalua Shopping Center. Tee Times: Most courses in Hawaii require a kidney or other blood sacrifice in order to get an early tee time, luckily not here. You could get a foursome walk on almost every weekday except for a holiday maybe, but I'd call ahead just to make sure. If your schedule is packed on the weekends, this is an awesome place for a Pau Hana round with great twilight rates. Getting a weekend Tee-Time is a bit unconventional but I've not been disappointed so far. Call by 3:00PM on Wednesday to get your name on the list and then call back Thursday Morning after 10:00AM to see what time you drew. You don't have to take the time they offered, but it should be close to what you requested; early morning (0630-0845?) or late morning (0930-1200ish). The Play: Mamala Bay isn't the toughest military course on the island, that distinction belongs to Klipper at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, but it is definitely the runner up in my opinion. There are (4) Par 5 and (4) Par 3 on this course with plenty of yardage across the course. Fairways are nice with a little room for error but there are sufficient obstacles to keep you on your toes. Greens are typically good (8/10) and they change quickly at around 9:00AM; I misread them a lot but I am pretty sure the holes are close to an inter-dimensional rift because my putts break uphill. :D The driving range is great with roomy stalls and alternates between mats and grass every couple days. Small Buckets (approx 20 balls) are $2.00 but bring some ones as this machine doesn't take credit cards or larger bills. There are (2) large putting greens and a pretty cool chipping area with a bunker to give you a little diversity. The Pros (Golf Pros): I am not a pro by any stretch and my long term goal is to shoot 95 without taking any mulligans or "gimme" strokes. Since that goal wasn't getting any closer, I decided to take some lessons to see if I could break through and it has made all the difference. 5 lessons were $125 I think and worth every penny. Charlie did a great job and he was accommodating, helpful, and made sure that our time was spent working on my game not his philosophy or setting goals that I won't reach. We spent time at the driving range and the Par 3 as well and I really appreciated that live play instruction. It gave me an immediate result to the changes I was making and I could see the effect I have a lot more confidence from the first tee all the way to the last green. I can't recommend lessons enough, but definitely recommend Charlie and the pros at Mamala Bay as well. ---------------------- Pros: The Pros... couldn't help myself with that one. Arguably the worst golf course on Oahu. They do not manage the golfers well at all. So, if you don't mind a 10 minute wait between each shot that you take then it probably won't be that bad. This place was pretty cool (say in Miley Cyrus voice) and had some incredible views. Since my husband is active duty we got a steal of a deal on our round fees and golf cart (see link below to obtain rates and charges). I haven't even played golf on this course yet and already I have a bad impression. I called to get a tee time set up for a Saturday and Ron, the guy who answered the phone, is kinda rude. I normally go to the driving range there. I think this is the haole guy at the pro shop. Piss poor attitude and thinks he's the "sheyt." Apparently on the weekends they have a lottery system. They pull the names on Thursday and you have to call to see if you get in. Of course active duty gets priority and any high ranking officer is going to bump you. I just noticed that there are not many reviews of golf courses, and considering I've played probably 99% of the golf courses in Hawaii I'm going to be busy for awhile...but I'm going to get a LOT of 'firsts'! Since this is my first review of a golf course, I preface everything by saying that I don't really play much golf anymore, maybe once or twice a year...but it could change. But I also remember pretty much every hole of every golf course I've ever played so I think my reviews got some weight behind it. I like this course, tough to get on if you're not military. One, you got to be active duty to get a decent tee time and two...you gotta be able to get on base which isn't as easy these days. Even if you get on base, you need a military/DoD sponsor to play too...but if you can do, it's fun. The course itself is really nice and it's challenging. Play from the tips and it's pretty long, plus it gets REALLY windy so it makes it tough. The neatest part of being on this course is that its adjacent to the airport runways and the taxiway to the reef runway cuts across the course...you'll see some really big planes up close, but it gets a bit loud. I wouldn't recommend hitting a ball to one of the planes though, it might be a federal offense! read more

This is a gem of a golf course. Far away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, this is an oasis of peace and serenity. Challenging course, and really neat snack bar. Chris is the manager of the snack bar, and she is super nice. The reception area is really cool, and the view is precious. I would love to hold there my next event, I probably will in the near future. The only thing that is missing is ice cream. This location would be perfect to enjoy a bowl of delicious ice cream. Golf course is really nice with awesome views. Ocean views and aircraft taxiing by as you play. Golf carts have GPS in it and well kept fairways. However, if you don't have a tee time on weekends or holidays you can forget about playing. Book early depending on your service status. I think preference to air force personnel and army last. If you can handle the noise from large aircraft taxing, this is the course for you! You can see oio (bonefish) cruzing along the banks between the reef runway and the golf course. Mamala is awesome relative to it's price. The course is more forgiving to players with a right bias. The length of most holes and protected greens make it great for practicing your game. Sand traps contain enough soft sand that your club doesn't bounce off the bunker. The short par 4 doglegs are a lot of fun to play. The starters and marshals are friendly, helpful and flexible with starting groups. read more

HAWAII has some pretty expensive golf courses, especially ones along the water. If you are lucky enough to get to play here (know someone who is military or DOD) then you get to play a decent course with gorgeous views for under $50. Not bad at all. It does get windy and noisy from near by planes (runway is along a few holes). It hardly rains though and the course is fairly well maintained. They have grass and mat driving range areas (it is seasonal) and two putting greens and a chipping/sand area. The course is decent size, 400+ yrd par 4s. There are better courses but at twice the cost. Wind and noise add plenty of challenge. There is a snack bar and restaurant area too. I've never eaten there but seems standard. Other than that, keep up your pace of play. Lots of twosomes and single walkers so sometimes it can get slow. We just played our front at 2+hrs behind guys and then played the back at about 1 hr 15min. So just depends who is in front. read more

Everytime I'm back in the islands I try to catch a round of golf with my Dad and we come here because it isn't entirely busy (b/c we drink and play slow haha!) and we play twilight when the sunsets with the airplanes nearby from HNL just making a beautiful backdrop. Pretty much getting 4stars for the price....not many places on Hawaii that I can play round with cart for less than 30 dollars. The staff was friendly, the corse was military standard. Meaning not too difficult restricted on space. Playing between the intl airport and a USAF runway can be a little distracting, but I found humor in waving at the planes go by since they were leaving this beautiful island and I was playing golf. The reduction of one star is because they did not have a snack cart on a Sunday..which is kind of a big deal...prefer buying drinks and snacks as I go instead of rushing at the turn. read more
