If you need a tee time/walk on last minute, this is the city course for you! Regular tee times are to be scheduled a week in advance at the earliest. All golfers need to be there to check in or they will not check your group in. Lots of parking right outside of the golf course which makes it super convenient. If it rains, it'll be a bit muddy on the course so he prepared to get mud on your shoes! Overall, It's a good city golf course and reasonable for those who have the resident card. Definitely one of the friendlier municipal courses on the island. Amenity wise it's bare minimal and grounds are not perfectly manicured, the way I look at it though is it's not a "fun and leisurely" course but simply a great practice course for the following reasons - - Course is long. You get to practice your woods / hybrids pretty much every hole. If you're walking the course that helps develop your sense of distance. - Did I mention that grounds are not perfectly manicured? Look on the bright side of that - you learn to hit off and adjust to different terrains. - Lots of slopes. Forces you to be extra thoughtful about distance / practice hitting off steep slopes. - Course is by the mountains and scenic. Really helps to have that when you're struggling with the round. - Cheap. $28 (weekdays) / $32 (weekends) with a golf card. - Not crowded. I last played here some 20 years ago and was rained out on the third or fourth hole. The course was already a mud pit so we turned back and went in. Of course they refused any credit despite the conditions and weather. Not impressed. Two weeks ago my golfing buddies said we ought to play Pali. They knew my story but I did agree to play. It was beautiful weather but no trade winds at all on the front nine. The course isn't the best track it has some wierd holes but works. The issue is that the fairways were in terrible shape not mowed for maybe a week. Arghhhh. So no roll on them. Might as well play out of the rough. The greens were punch a week earlier so I'll give them that but they weren't mowed hardly either. Bottom line. It may take me another 20 years before I play. My suggestion is to turn the place into a cemetery. It's a beautiful area but very wet. At least as a cemetery it would get more use from folks like me. read more

From the very beginning the staff was being weird towards the party that we had reserved. We had a t time and it was already backed up 7 carts. It took about 25 minutes to get to the first hole from waiting for all other parties ahead of us. We were then confronted about having 4 carts in a row when we were waiting on 3 carts ahead of us. The other 6 people ahead of us did not get a warning but our party of 6 did. It almost felt like targeting but that doesn't matter, what matters is the man's attitude and terrible course, the grass is very rough. This is the only golf course that I have seen with this bad of grass on the greens 2/10. Would be 5/10 if staff was nice and approachable. I have been to almost every golf course on island and this one is the worst one so far. Arrogant old Marshall that has no respect for others and could not apply common sense that there was 6 carts backed up and targeted us. They for sure need a new Marshall but other that the other staff were amiable and approachable and the course was below average. read more

Played here a few times now and it is a nice course to get 'your money's worth' with long links. Some really nice holes to play. It gets 3 stars because each time we've gone there are people who don't know golf etiquette and it affects my game. The last time we went out with an elderly couple and behind us were 3 carts-5guys. Each of them hit into us on the first hole from the tee and again on the green. I drove back to them to ask why--they each said the same thing: that wasn't me. Well that ball was yours that other ball was the other guy. Each guy same answer-Yeah yeah I didn't know -that was my first ball. I didn't know how far. After 3 balls come up to and past the green while we are still on it I drive back again. I tell the first cart and then the 2nd cart So I say-well after the first ball went why did you hit again? You don't know how far you can hit? They all insist they didn't know. So I tell the 2 guys -cant you see there are 2 kupuna up there? If you hit the old guy you can take him down! One more ball too close and I'm calling it in to the Marshall and tell them to take you guys out--you are dangerous! You can't say I don't know--if you don't know-you wait-if you don't know-you are too junk to play and shouldn't be out here! At that-one of the men scowled and said I told you we didn't know! We can other control the other guys! I said of course you can't control other people's balls but I'm talking about you. That was your ball-right? Went past the old guy over the green? Fine! Don't worry about it-just play how you want-but next one -I don't care who or how-if it comes less than 20 yards from us I'm calling it in. Do whatever you want. But if you don't care about the old man if you hit me-Im sending you my doctor bill and sueing you if I get hurt because if you didn't know-now you do and now you are responsible. At this point they said they were pressed from behind by a 4some. I told them we were all backed up--we were behind 3 4somes-waiting for them so nobody was going to be speeding past that day--just relax and play. They gave us more space and it was ok after that. I HATE people who hit into you--it is very rude and dangerous. And before people comment--no I am not one of those golfers who are oblivous--we pick up if I blowout a hole and double par or fall a hole behind. We will play best ball if we are struggling that day. We don't go off searching for balls in the rough. We don't hit 3 or 4 balls till we are happy with our strokes if people are behind. We don't drive back and replay a hole because we didn't like the first one. We don't drive past while the other golfer is playing to cut in ahead and then make that golfer wait because you aren't really that good. Oh--wait a minute--yes these are the other kind of golfer who doesn't follow etiquette that disturbs the rhythm and enjoyment of other golfers. I'm writing all this because I do think some courses are better and worse with etiquette so this affects the score it gets. Whether it is the Marshall or the price that determines the quality of golfer-I'm not sure. Royal Hawaiian is usually pleasant but Fazio has been 50-50 with etiquette. read more

I had hoped to play this course while visiting the island but the day that I went to grab a tee time, they actually closed the course early since no one was scheduled to play. I took the long drive up the narrow road to the clubhouse and was able to chat with the cart attendant who told me they had shut down early for the day. Nevertheless, he said it was okay to walk around a bit which I did and was sad I wasn't able to jump on. I hope to be back again and this will be on my list of courses to play! read more

For what it's worth, the Pali is a good golf course. I think that it's been lacking in some love, but this is still a fun and challenging course. What's really lacking is the food/drink stand and a kind of sad golf shop. I in no way blame owners for this. Greens aren't the best and in this season there is a solid layer of leaves covering the sides of Hole 1 and 18 making it super hard to find your balls. Aside from that..ou can't help but love the views when you first walk through the corridor from the parking lot. Breathtaking. Golf courses don't need to have all the bells and whistles like the private courses do, it's nice but if you're going out to play because it's what you love to do and want to get better, the Pali really helps you to focus. read more

It wasn't too long that Pali golf course greens were looking really good! Lush and green but slow. Unfortunately now the weeds have taken over and the greens are not very good. This makes it even tougher when you play this course. There is no roll at all! The ball just dies. If you don't hit it long all you do is suffer all day. There is no real fairway grass like most courses. It's like the grass in your back yard. Flyers are common. It's crazy because the course is hard as well. The staff is nice overall. Sorta friendly starter and pro shop. They're all business. Be ready or you'll hear their wrath. Non-locals will be charge $86 green fee, $26 cart fee, $30 club rental. I recommend you bring your own glove, ball, tees and hat to a save some money. Layout is fair, most of their fairways are lush, a few sand traps however the greens are trash. They use a paspalum grass which isnt maintained properly therefore the greens are thick, bumpy, patchy and MF slow as molasses. Hard to read the break so just guess it will break towards ocean (opposite of mountains). I got lucky with club rental that had a partial set of Titleist DCI and TM M2 3w but knockoff putter and hyb sucked. Glad I got to play and price was much cheaper than other courses. prob won't be back due to greens being so slow. Btw...locals are able to play 5 & 6somes. read more

Great place to play for a casual round of golf. Check the day's weather cause this course rains often. Very beautiful scenery, situated near the Koolau mountain range. Course conditions today were average / below average for a public course but understandable because of the rainfall & muddy conditions. Hilly course with uneven lies makes this a very challenging golf course. Greens & sand bunkers needs much improvement. Golf course workers are very friendly and work hard to keep grass trimmed around the golf course. Easy course to get on without a T-time. Walk-on is no problem and can play without waiting too long. Amazing scenic views on this golf course for a good price compared to the other courses on the island. Golf course is in just okay shape and is pretty easy to most holes just go straight. You can easily get a tee time here the day before or maybe even the day of. Royal Hawaiian Golf was booked for the afternoon, so I decided to go across the highway to Pali Golf Course. This is a public course and surprisingly it is one of the most scenic public courses I ever played. Seriously, this was surprisingly good, price ith cart was great for resident rate, and it wasn't crowded at all. No one in front and no one rushing from behind..... I love that. It wasn't as beautiful as Royal Hawaiian but it came close, just missing couple of the water holes. Glad I checked this one off my bucket list. Will definitely come back. read more

This is one of the better municipal golf courses on Oahu. Located on the windward side, this is a very challenging course. It has a lot of elevation for the majority of holes. The greens have quite a bit of slope for the most part, and there is some tricky Fairways with tree locations. In reality, the strength of this course is actually the cause of its weakness. You get a lot of rain on that side, so the greens are well-watered and in decent condition, and the fairways are lush along with all the vegetation. The downside, is that as you get closer to some of the vegetation, the mosquitoes will eat you alive! Also you are likely to get passing showers on any given day. And it's also a good chance you might get serious rain depending on the weather systems in the area. The abundance of rain causes the fairways to be very damp. You're going to deal with a lot of mud, and wet grass. The grass is another issue. In the fairways, the crabgrass doesn't allow much roll at all. Also, a shot in the middle of the Fairway does not necessarily mean that you have a clean shot due to the thickness of the grass. The bunkers are not much of a challenge, as they are very forgiving with gradual sloped lips. This is actually a bonus, because with the passing showers, the sand can be very hard. The course itself is in decent shape, I would say better than the other Municipal courses on the island. They have a small Pro Shop, and you can rent a push cart for $4. But trust me, you definitely want to have a motorized cart for this course do the elevation. They also have a snack bar, and plenty of parking. There is no driving range however. Definitely worth playing, but it may not be one of your first choices, or favorite courses. read more

Played 9 holes at noon. Fairways are a rough, odd sort of grass. Greens could be improved. The course is challenging in length, but fairly hard to lose a ball, at least on the front 9. Carts have loud motors (no electric) and the facilities have that kind of DMV/city-owned public course vibe. It would be so nice to see some money and pride put into this place, especially with Golf's resurgence. Someone get Blangiardi on the line.. My family has been here many times. Conditions are the worst in Hawaii but we would come for the cheap resident prices. The pro shop lady is the rudest golf course employee we have ever dealt with. She has such an unpleasant attitude and ruins our tee times often. For residents and tourists, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This course is not worth anything. read more

If you want to enjoy some great golf holes with a wonderful staff!, the most amazing view and I got on the course right when I got there no wait! Best place to play & the non -resident fee isn't bad at all. Very affordable and I don't think there's anywhere else I will ever look to play when I return! Every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. Rented some clubs, got golf balls, glove tees for just a little over $50 with a couple of snickers included. My family came from the Philippines to have a boys golf day. My husband called to make sure they would be able to get a golf cart because my dad is a senior. They specifically told us that they had to be there before 3pm. They arrived 10min before 3pm and the person would not give them a golf cart. I am really disappointed as they made sure to tee before 3pm and the whoever they had to talk to was not even being nice or friendly about the whole experience. The people working there are rude. Maybe it is because they work for the city, but you can tell that they have very poor customer service. We arrived at the course at 3:45. The city employee took 15 minutes to create our golf id cards then refused to let us play because it was 4:01. How to you work there and not know that the last tee time is 4:00. She could have let us play a few holes for free but she clearly did not care. Went back a few weeks later, my wife forgot her card, the same lady charges us $4.00 to look up my wife's id on the computer. Bare in mind, that she was not doing anything and the golf card is free. Just really poor customer service. She even made a rude comment about forgetting your card. The greens had not been mowed in a long time. The greens looked worse than the rough on most other golf courses. Save your money and play a Olomana or Clippers. At least they treat your better and maintain the courses. read more

Fairly tougher course compared to others I've been to. Plus it was extemely slow. Part of it was the two groups in front of us were taking long, especially the one right ahead of us. I would have to say that no matter how bad I do here this is one of the nicer municipal golf courses that I've been to. There's a lot of green grass, and not so much barren dirt patches compared to the courses on the Ewa side due to the plentiful rain at the foot of the Ko'olaus. There's a good amount of elevation change throughout the course, and a lot of well placed trees to make things a little more interesting. You may even encounter some chickens roaming around the course. One thing that I noticed only after my friend pointed it out is that the women's tees are very close to the men's tees. She definitely didn't like that aspect of the course. It wasn't a big deal to the rest of us, though. :p I'm sad to see that on my last visit the bar in the clubhouse wasn't there anymore. We didn't have time to stop for a beer anyway, but for the future we'll have to find a nearby watering hole, or come prepared with coolers and chairs in the parking lot for the 19th hole. read more

A fun and forgiving course to play at. A very good deal to play if you have the hawaii golf card. But this course is only getting 3 stars from me because I was not satisfied with their fairways and greens. Pretty much every fairway was not cut very well and was muddy even directly down the middle. I could not recall finishing a hole without having a muddy ball, even while hitting every stroke well (and I am by no means a good golfer). I also had difficult times finding my balls on the fairways. The greens were also not trimmed well which made them very slow. I understand it rains a lot there but they should have different grass throughout the holes or a little better upkeep. During rainy season course can get muddy. If starter tells you carts must stay on cart path only, opt to walk or rent push cart. Otherwise you will waste a lot of time and energy going back and forth to cart. Unlike motorized carts which will tear up the muddy course, you can take a push cart on the grass. New to yelp but not to the Pali. I usually get out at least once a week. I'm an 8 handicap that can play great or horrible depending on the day. I like Pali for the forgiveness on the bad day and the challenge on the easy ones. Greens are in decent shape but slow. No real rough to speak of. The only downside is the dry red dirt. Pali is probably the best muni course to play on Oahu. The course itself is "hilly" and sometimes wet due to rain, although the course is easy enough to make it fun for everyone. It's not too crowded so you usually can just walk on. The back 9 was closed when I went a few months ago, not sure if they reopened it. Pali public links course was the first course I ever played and learned the sport on. Played here many times in the past with good memories with Family and Friends and seen this place at it's best and worst. Learning the game here was tough but very helpful in the development of much needed skills mentally and physically. The group of players I started with were mostly seniors and veterans to the sport. This group and others alike some how always managed to get the early morning and prime tee times every week which stirred up some controversy and triggered a major change in how tee times were processed at public courses...it even made the news in papers and on tv years ago. One of the best things I learned playing with the group was how to play fast. Being the first group out meant not holding up play and this group always tried to make it to the 19th hole in record time to booze it up, enjoy some Pupus, share some stories and poke fun at the rookie( Me). But I paid my dues, learned fast and had the last laugh as my game improved. Lot of those Mentors are gone now and probably teeing it up on the greatest links up in the Heavens. The course at it's best is now in it's current state with better maintained greens which is a big improvement of the once unputtable mess of the past that kept me away from this place for a long time. The fairways in my opinion is still sub par and mostly crab grass and muddy clay that prevents you from hitting clean shots off of. The sand bunkers need more sand and be cleared of stones and debris. The highlight of the course would be the course set up,the majestic Ko olau mountains and beautiful natural environment of trees and flora. An occasional sighting of wildlife like chickens, Jackson Chameleons and even wild boars are common and adds to the course's unspoiled natural beauty. The course has ample parking,a modest dining area and snack bar, a pro shop with reasonably priced merchandise and an unmarked practice area to the left of the road leading up to the building created and used mostly by the Local regulars and is a popular after golf hangout. If you are a local resident and want to take advantage of the much lower rates you'll need a golf card which can be attained at the starter's window. Aside from my poor fiance having to hear me complain the whole way while walking 9-holes (because we didn't realize if you go there for twilight, you can't get a cart, not to mention I didn't even have the rolly cart thing for my golf bag, grrr!), the course is decent. I have been to many municipal courses. Let's see, I have played at Ted Makalena's in Waipahu, Ewa Villages, and West Loch. These of course are on the Ewa-ish side so from these courses you get to see people's pitbulls in their cages and even fighting chickens. Haha. Pali is an awesome course compared to these. Beautiful view of the mountains and pretty challenging but well kept greens. Not to mention it is municipal so the price is totally great. You also get the comfort of seeing chickens on the course.
