Went with family and even though I was hesitant and outvoted from going to the Vietnamese place next-door, we actually had a great dinner. Food was so much better this time around than the last time I had been there. They really must've had a bad night when I had gone previously. Small restaurant in the of a little strip mall off of Main Street. They serve classic Chinese American food and unlike most places in the Bay Area that are family style dishes preferably on a Lazy Susan during dinner time. They offer rice plates, or combo plates for individuals, similar to lunch specials. I selected several dishes and asked the server which was the most popular amongst the dishes I chose, and she let me know the salt and pepper fish, which I got with chow mein. We also ordered shrimp & broccoli, and sweet-and-sour pork. Everything appeared made to order and looked very fresh. From grandma to the babes everyone was happy with their food. Mine was more on the plain Jane with just fried fish, luckily it came with sliced jalapeños to give it a kick. Next time I'll order a spicy eggplant dish. This is a good place to go to if you're with a group of picky eaters. Price is very reasonable, especially for dinner. read more

7/5 /25 Update 3/5 This has been a long time coming unfortunately. Ever since the previous owners sold the place the quality has dropped significantly. Consistency has been a major issue not only with food but with policy. When they first took over I'm sure there were some learning curves and maybe tweaks to the recipes. I wanted to give them a fair shot to get things right. Not sure if the old cooks stayed or if they got new ones? Did the new owners have the recipes changed? Did they change suppliers of ingredients, etc, I just don't know. What I can tell you though is that at least some of the dishes are different and are off from what I remember. The general Tao sauce I thought tasted different but necessarily bad. But combine that with a definite lack of crisp/crunch with the fried items and that's gonna be a problem for me. This time around, I only got the general tao beef because unlike my previous visit, they did not allow me to order the general tao beef in the combo plate as in upcharge (just last week or the week before it was allowed). I've been multiple times since the change in ownership. Partly because of the convenience of the location and partly because of the hope that whatever meal I eat at any given time will at least satisfy my fix for their type of Chinese American food. Unfortunately, the fried items I loved so much like orange chicken, sweet and sour pork and general tao beef alike are all severely lacking the crunch from the fry. As of late I've been getting the General Tao Beef to track consistency and it's been consistently under cooked in terms of the batter. The beef itself has been rubbery and to the point where I can't even break apart a piece and end up having to eat it whole lots of times. The other problem is that the pieces are large inconsistently cut (sometimes with, sometimes against the grain) strips making for a difficult chew. And because of the lack of crunch the fried battered outside just falls apart when you bite or try to cut it apart. The last two visits, but especially this one considering I ordered extra crunchy, were severely undercooked and soggy. it was to the point this time where I basically had to scrape off the majority of the batter and just eat the rubbery beef inside. It really does bring me pain to drastically drop the rating of a place that I once loved. I hope one day they can make the fixes so that I can continue to enjoy their food once again. I gave them a 3/5 but honestly, it probably should have been 2/5. I think the chicken with hot garlic sauce might be just good enough to keep it at 3/5 even though the last three times I ordered it. I didn't take photos as I rarely do when I get food to go, but I've been trying to find good Chinese food since living in California (compared to my places I had in Yonkers NY ) . This is indeed a hood place to eat . From when I spoke with the worker on phone to place my order up to arriving and picking up my food, the service was perfect and above my expectations as Manteca doesn't have a good quality of Chinese cuisine as to my likings. The inside of the restaurant was very quaint and welcoming and if you're looking for good food, great prices and friendly environment, stop by here and enjoy. I had the chicken fried rice with salt n pepper chicken ( could've had more salt n pepper to my liking is why 4 stars not 5) also I had chicken lo mien. I did try the steam buns (not sure if that's the name) but they were soft and filled with pork and were very good with a good dipping sauce. read more

Service: Great service, the waiter was extremely attentive and polite! Food came in pretty fast too which I liked. Food: Ordered a calamari, wonton soup, and Thai tea. Did not like the Thai tea at all and it tasted watery, I would suggest going a store down and getting drinks there instead. The calamari was alright, and it didn't have much flavor as it was mostly fried dough. I did enjoy the wonton soup which I recommend for a light meal, just didn't enjoy the other meat it came with as it didn't mix well with the soup nor the wonton. read more

Changed ownership...... here's some recent feedback I don't know what happened, the ownership of Kitty's kitchen just changed. Before when it first opened, it was run by Taishan people who spoke Cantonese. They made authentic food and were super friendly and kind. My favorite dish used to be the fried chicken wings and their sweet & sour Thai noodles.... Upon ordering today, we realized the ownership changed after we realized they didn't speak Cantonese and didn't know which dishes we were talking about. We still ordered in hopes the recipes and food would be the same but much to our disappointment, the food is completely different :( Sometimes change is good, but in this case.. I'd argue against it. The chicken was just ok in flavor and dry and the soup is bland. The rice was super oily as well..... To give perspective, the chicken is wings but the inside meat is like breast meat... We're super disappointed as this was our favorite place and was something we would always look forward to eating... we're going to end up tossing the old menu on our fridge :( Hopefully they'll reach out to the old owners and ask for some of their recipes. I am always on a hunt for a good Chinese food and this one topped my list. I found this place through my husband when he decided that one day he'll try this place because he saw the picture of their orange chicken and was easily enticed. This place is small with both table and booth seating. I came here during lunchtime and it can get busy. Though it can be that, the food always come out on time and steaming. That day we ordered Ala Cart. Their orange chicken of course, salt and pepper fish, garlic green bean and house fried rice. All of our orders came out on time and I like that their servings were bountiful. Orange chicken was battered lightly that you still get the chicken it's coated with, It was fried nicely and the sauce it's smothered in was tangy, sweet and not on a too spicy side (which my husband loved). Salt and Pepper fish also has a light batter that was not oily. It also has a light salt and pepper seasoning that is not salty that it overwhelm my taste buds. I can't say the same with the green beans though. Although some of them has that snap with every bite, some of them was mushy and tasted off like it was yesterdays leftovers mixed in with the fresh one of the day. It really threw my mouth on a spin on how it tasted weird and bleh! The fried rice paired perfectly with all the dishes we ordered that day. It was very filling and filled with mixed veggies, shrimp, and bbq pork. These orders were shared between 3 people and still had leftovers to bring home for some eatin later. Their prices were reasonable and service was prompt, friendly and pleasant. We have been back here twice now and slowly trying other dishes they have to offer. I would say this place is a good value for a generous portion. The ambiance is that of a small hole in the wall family run local businesses that has been in operation for years. Things are older and upgrades haven't been made in quite some time. The decorations on shades were peeling but it should be expected from a more established local family business. This is not a fancy place to go in a date but a good traditional authentic food restaurant. The food was reasonably priced with generous portions so all in all it was a good value. Two combination meals with two entrees, Cho's main and fried rice each with two ice waters totaled $28 and some change. Service was personable and friendly. I did have to ask for my water refill but they were handling a lot of to go orders too! Lots of parking. I would say four and a half stars but can't give half stars on Yelp so it's a four. This is a local gem that is frequented by the locals. We will be back when we want Chinese food again and we recommend you give it a try. Check out my photos too! read more

I used to consider this one of the best Chinese restaurants in town, but unfortunately it has gone downhill fast. The food was bland, overpriced, and very disappointing. The foil chicken, which was always my kids' favorite, had absolutely no seasoning and they wouldn't even eat it. The chow mein had no vegetables at all, and both the sweet & sour chicken and orange chicken were dry and completely lacking in flavor. Sadly, what used to be a go-to spot for us has now become the worst Chinese food experience we've had. Needless to say it's the last time we will be eating there. read more

So I rolled to Kitty's Kitchen !!! I parked in the Strip Mall parking lot!!! Then I strolled in to Kitty's and Grabbed a Table and a Menu!!! I perused the Menu and Ordered a Large Wonton Soup and a Combination Plate Consisting of. Chow Mein , Fried Rice , Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour Pork!!! My Combination Plate came out first!!! We decided to try this place in Manteca and it didn't disappoint. The flavors were very good and the portions are perfect for small families/couples. My boyfriend enjoyed their salt and pepper chicken, they were crispy and full of flavor. He would have loved if they added jalapeños for an extra kick! My family and I have visited here many times under the previous owners. We were unaware of the change, and wanted to have that good food we remembered. We were disappointed though... while the service was quick and kind the food was not at all what we had enjoyed in the past. The oils tasted old, the flavors in the dishes were off, and my wife was particularly dissatisfied in her favorites like chicken in foil which she reported was nearly flavorless. Even the condiments were not what they were, with my wife commenting that the. Spicy mustard tasted like it wasn't mixed properly. The restaurant itself appeared clean, quiet, and in good order for the brief moment I was there. Needless to say, we will be looking for a new Chinese restaurant. Kitty's was always a favorite go to for my family. Until they changed ownership. The food quality is not like it used to be. We love the sizzling rice soup and specifically order that when we are feeling under the weather. Kitty knew it was either me or my husband coming in to pick it up after the order was placed. Today was one of those feeling under the weather days. I was so disappointed. The soup was so gross. Had hardly any meat. Everything looked chopped up and skimpy. Was not expecting such a quality food experience! Kitty's Kitchen is an unassuming little place with some of the BEST Chinese food I've ever had. There were three of us and each had a "small" meal that came with either rice or chow mein. We are not big eaters, but I didn't expect to get 3 meals each! Angela, Kitty's cousin, did say that she was aware that people weren't happy, and has been trying to please the customers by making sure the recipes stay as close as possible. I don't care if it differences from what kitty's used to do, it was good! Maybe kitty did custom orders and those are the customer's that aren't happy ‍ Angela said she had a couple stop by and ask if kitty is still there, she replied with "no" and they turned around and walked out. Without giving her a chance. My boss and coworker got Wonton & Favorite Noodle Soups. They both loved the soups. They did say they noticed a difference in the taste of the food, the Broth is more Beefier flavor, which they both were ok with and loved. Kitties was the best Chinese food in 100 mile radius and had some of the most delicious dishes all of which have been destroyed are they allergic to salt? There's absolutely no flavor. Everything looks like it's going to be good but then when you start eating it, it's absolutely disgusting. The sweet-and-sour chickenwas inedible. The pork buns had lost all of their flavor. The egg fried rice was but nothing but brown looking undercooked rice with no flavor. I had been craving Chinese food. I seen this place as I was at a store n Dr to this. My son and I decided to try. That was a bad idea. We take it home and I immediately notice the sauces had opened in the bag. So y sauce packets. I throw out the bag n put my food on a plate. The rice was dry, the noodles was definitely extra dry. The service was fine (it was takeout) but it's definitely not like it used to be. We are from Arizona and whenever we are in town visiting family we make it a point to order from Kitty's. We love the salt and pepper pork with the crispy coating that melts in your mouth and the boneless fried chicken and I always get the shrimp fried rice. Well something has changed for sure. The salt and pepper pork had no flavor at all. It was bland and greasy and the coating was hard and crusty. It reminded me of Captain Crunch because it hurt the roof of my mouth. The fried chicken was a little better as far as the coating but it too had no flavor and the shrimp fried rice was mushy and shrimp was tough. I heard that the owners had retired and passed the business on to their children. Unfortunately it seems they didn't pass on their food preparation skills with it. Ordered take out and service was great. It was early evening on a weekday. The food was uninspiring and seemed to be an order from lunch that was heated in the microwave. I ordered chow mein that was stuck together and soaking in sauce. The cheszhan chicken was extremely hard and dried out and sitting in sauce with shriveled, overcooked jalapeños. This was possible the worst meal I've had from this place. I also ordered chicken fried rice which was basic and just okay. The Crab Rangoon was good. I spent $35 on dinner and will promptly be dieting tonight after a few bites. The rest went in the garbage. read more

Such a great little spot. I ordered through Door Dash, but you can just call the restaurant direct and order. I ordered the combo plate. It comes with fried rice and chow mein. Then you pick 2 other items from a decent size list. I chose the vegetable delight and egg rolls. The lady working on Tuesday for lunch was so nice. They have about 8 tables in the restaurant and a good sized parking lot so easy to find parking. The plate was huge! I got 2 meals out of it. Everything was delicious and hot. We decided to try this restaurant tonight. It seems to stay pretty busy. They have about 8 tables for sit down dining and also do a good amount of take out and Door-dash orders. Nice selection on their menu.I should have taken a picture to share but I was hoping for a to-go menu that I would have posted. Our server said that they are being reprinted with some new selections to try. By the way, the servers are very nice. We started our meal with their Hot & Sour Soup. I really liked it. The soup was a little thicker than others I have tried but had a really nice flavor and just the right amount of heat. It could be a meal for a person if they just wanted soup. It was full of flavor and hearty. We all ordered their combination meal. This allows a person to choose 2 items and comes with Fried Rice (Steamed Rice if you want) along with Chow Mein. The entree selections range from things like Sweet & Sour Chicken or Pork, Lemon Chicken, Mongolian Beef (Chicken), Beef(Chicken) & Broccoli as examples (to many to list). Nice sized meal for sure.
