This is by far one of my favorite breakfast places in Manteca and has for a while. The owner is extremely friendly and always talks with his customers, he gets to know you and your likes and will talk with you as you eat. He always talks about Anime with me. Super friendly staff and great place to sit with family and have a great breakfast. They have great yakicty yak which is an eggs Benedict and their waffles or pancakes are great. Anything they serve is delicious. Even their drinks. The restaurant is large and has 50s decorations everywhere which makes you feel as if you stepped back into time. Lovely place to eat or hang out. I hear they have great burgers and shakes too but usually I eat breakfast here. read more

The menu and the photos on yelp appeared to be so cute. The food was expensive and mediocre. My husband ordered the corned beef hash skillet and the potatoes were cut extremely large and it barely had any corned beef hash. The proportions were unequal and it was mainly potatoes which over powered everything. My son ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was very thin and we ordered medium but it came well done. I ordered the beef barley soup and the potatoes and beef in the soup were still frozen! They were nice to reheat it for me. I really liked the ube French toast. read more

You ever get in the mood for something nostalgic? The music, the decor, and even the wonderful service at Chubby's is going to fill that gap for ya. The folks who work here are very attentive and the food comes out piping hot with all the fixings. We love that they have such a broad menu, from breakfast to burgers, and even fountain drinks. This was my first visit to Chubby's Diner in Manteca, as my car was being worked on at a local dealership and I needed to kill some time. I planned ahead, skipping breakfast at home in Modesto in anticipation of eating in Manteca. I ordered the W. Louise Ave Tacos. (Named after a nearby street). I was not disappointed. Let me back up, the seating was prompt, the service also, the cleanliness good, and the staff friendly. I have to go a 4/5 on just one visit. My only observation is that this classic (if over decorated) Fifties diner plays the music a bit loud were I trying to have a conversation. Loved the selections tho... Still, I enjoyed the decor and think that this would play well with folks who love the Fifties era. I suspect I will bring my wife here some time soon. read more

We eat here whenever we are getting a lube oil and filter at speedee across the way. We also bring family here whenever they are in town for breakfast. Food was ok, sandwiches little sloppy. Bread was slightly on tough side. Customer service was excellent. Price was outrageous. Never paid $25. For a chicken sandwich. Might as go to McDonald's. No wonder the restaurant was empty. There were 2 other couples only. Just a highway robbery. read more

Decided to try this place due to Yelp's comments that the place has a 50's ambiance. Went with my family and when we entered it has Christmas decorations and looks so nice inside. I ordered their Ube Coconut French toast combo, my husband got the Blueberry FT, while my kids got Lollipop Pancake and the Fruit Pebble Pancake from the kids menu. The portion is not too big but it's enough for us to empty our plate. Our server is very friendly. We'll come back again. read more

I thought I already left a review the last time I was here some time ago. I had found this diner while yelping around the area. The photos alone had me interested in coming by. I didn't have the Ube latte in mind at the time we visited but it was a special that was posted on their menu and their larger menu by the entrance which made me like to try it. I definitely would suggest this place as a day date place and small celebrations. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Didn't see any issues with food or anything but positive vibes They do tend to have different items the times I've came by making me want to revisit and try the next new item The Mexican Hot Chocolate was delicious and I loved how it was presented, made it taste more delicious than expected I for sure will be returning and hopefully that new option is still available. Cereal is way overpriced in the kids menu. $10.50 for a small bowl. Looks are deceiving on the menu, they make it look like a certain way and you expect a different outcome. Waiter didn't give any heads up on the menu. And then when came asking her about the cereal situation, she didn't even care and didn't try to fix the situation. Ordered the Duke of Earl and was sorely disappointed eggs were supposed to be over medium, but the whites weren't even cooked. The potatoes were mostly raw some of the smaller ones were cooked, but it was pretty pathetic and don't get me started on their watery ass gravy. This place is an awesome diner! Stopped in for brunch and it was perfect. It has an excellent and extensive menu of diner classics. The whole family was able to find something to enjoy and even then it was tough to make a final decision because everything sounded so good. The atmosphere is perfect and it feels like a great throw back to diners that you remember from being a kid. Service was quick, no wait on a Saturday morning was a nice surprise. The food was what you'd expect from an old school diner. The chicken fried steak was good. The only suggestion is adding seasoning to the country gravy and the hasbrowns. The Huevos Ford Rancheros was super flavorful with the chorizo and fixings. I highly recommend this. The cinnamon roll is homemade and yummy. The service was very nice and straightforward. Our new go to spot for breakfast. I like to go to a new place at least twice or more before I leave them a review so that I could get a good feel of what they offer and this one does not disappoint. I love me a good chicken fried steak for a hearty breakfast. I have tried almost all the places around town that offers them but none really satisfied my cravings when it comes to my core memory that I had when I was living down South (like THE SOUTH). Came back to this place and ordered their Love me tender which was chicken fried steak with country gravy. I got their hash brown coz I am obsessed with it. Chicken fried steak was excellently fried with the right amount of batter to meat ratio. Meat was very juicy and seasoned to perfection and was drenched with country gravy just the way I like it, peppery and creamy. Hash brown is both creamy and crunchy all at the same time and I could eat it all day! I love ketchup so of course it matched perfectly with it :) The only pouty moment for me about this place is that they're only open until 1p everyday except for Tuesday where the store is closed. Our server, the owner was also very pleasant, friendly and patient with us coz sometimes we tend to take a while to make up our minds on what to try that day (we're going down the menu). The place is very memory down the lane-esque that plays 50's diner music together with their decorations. Definitely a repeat breakfast joint I would go back to. I went after seeing they had the viral Dubai chocolates and cups, which are expensive, got their milkshake as well, which was also really expensive. I got 2 things, and when she told me the total was 38, my mind was blown. I'm from the Bay Area, and things there are really expensive, so I'm used to it, but I think this was a little too expensive and wouldn't go again. The menu prices are just a bit crazy. read more

I looked up Chubby's prior to dining there. The reviews seemed pretty solid. We were just passing through Manteca. The signage is at the host stand (a VW) is informative. Photo attached. We got there at about 12:20pm & were seated at 12:25pm, they close at 1pm. The servers were nice. The decor is fun and retro. Music was fun. My husband, a music guy, laughed bc there was some Beatles stuff, in a '50s diner. Bathrooms were clean. The server took a clorox wipe and wipped down our table prior to us being seated. We were at a booth. It was very spacious for our fam of 4. The metal wall dividor was very dirty. Food smeared and sticky. It was not clean, to but it mildly, and it didn't look "fresh". I ordered the french dip w loaded fries. The au jus was so salty it wasn't even good to dip my sandwich in. And I'm a salter. I love fresh salt on top of my meal. The meat was extremly chewy and fatty. It was over cooked for sure. The loaded fries weren't bad, came w real cheese, and were the main thing I ate, which I salted. haha. I ordered an arnold palmer, it came in a mason jar. It tasted, dusty, for lack of a better word. I didn't mention it bc at this point I thought it was me. I was dealing with a bit of a cold, maybe my taste was off. The server offered me a fresh one to go. Thsi one in the togo cup didn't taste "dusty"... possibly it was the glass, can't be sure. My husband got a breakfast dish. He said it was ok. The hashbrowns tasted like they were made in old oil. My duaghter got a burger that she said was very good. My little one got a pancake and it was the best thing on the table in my opinon. They both wanted milkshakes. We got them kids ones, they were $5 each and very small. Probably would've been better to get a regular and spilt it. We love going to smaller mom & pop places when possible. This one, for us, is a one & done location. We aren't in Manteca often. Locally owned and an amazing experience! I loved the service, the atmosphere was great! The music was as if we were taken back in time. We came for breakfast and omg did they deliver! The skillet my GF ordered was out of this world! The seasoned potatoes inside the skillet were crispy and NOT soggy! But the perfect texture mix you need when eating a mix of ingredients like this. My pancakes were made exactly how I requested them. I love lightly golden pancakes! Nowadays it's so hard to actually get them. I was IMPRESSED! The pancakes were fluffy and perfect! Said to her, not really Steamed hamburger not even grilled for taste for the Texas Burger. The bottom bun was soaked in pickles juice so had to eat with fork what I did eat of it. Just had that empty gut feeling from the food. The Philly cheese steak they loaded with mushrooms more than meat. Should've been called Philly cheese mushroom sandwich. The garlic sprinkle thing they did with the fries was ridiculous. Server name came back to refill soda and lemonade glasses. Had no problem at counter while on cell phone though. My kids and I stopped by on a Thursday morning while we waited for our oil change to be done. We were greeted right away by the hostess. She sat us down very quickly and took our drink order. I ordered a coffee. I never expect to have good restaurant coffee because they seem to never ever be good but, I had left home before having any. I was SHOCKED how good their coffee was!! Honestly, I even had a 2nd glass which I don't ever do. As far as food, it was good. My kids are their entire breakfast which is rare. Went to Chubby's before my shift started. Saw them on yelp recommendations and decided to look up some menu favs before I came. Immediately loved how it was a 50s themed diner with their menu entrees named after some classic 50s music & culture bc I grew up listening to it. It definitely was not just a regular 50s diner but brought meaning to the food with incorporating the culture with the music inspired in the food which was fun. Like the Suzie Q, Twist & Shout, etc. They also have some modern twists which make the food creative. For anyone with a sweet tooth or looking for a healthy choice this menu accomdates anyone. I ordered a Ferrero Rocher shake and although I did not have time to have a sit down order I'll definitely be back to try some more menu favs. If you plan on enjoying a day out I recommend trying Chubby's and getting an early start. This resturant does close early at 1pm so if you have errands etc in the area its a perfect brunch spot. read more

I used to LOVE Chubby's back when it was at the old location. Even at the new place things were great for a while. However, like everything, the prices are getting out of hand just the quality isn't there anymore. I recently ordered takeout and clarified twice to be sure the order was taken correctly, especially since we came from out of town. However, when we got home and opened our boxes to find everything was mixed up, the cheeseburger I requested have extra sauce was literally buns and meat only, along with various other mix ups. Hopefully it was an off day and they're much more attentive and consistent now, but that will be for someone else to judge, as for my family Chubby's will just be a good memory of a place we used to love. read more

There were plenty of tables in the back and no wait line, I told by a girl with bad acne those reserved for big parties only, it was just my husband and I. We sat at a table by the bathrooms that had cake on grease on the table, we walk out. I was disappointed of not being able to sit at the back tables, I really like chubbys and we come here alot. it was so stupid not to let us sit there.
