Decided to give it a try based on sign, voted best omelet. Atmosphere is great with theme of 50s and the music. Also the service was great we got seated quick and waitress was very attentive. However while the food tasted decent it was not restaurant quality it was cooked more home style. So, my dad went in to have breakfast this morning, and comes in semi regularly, as I used to work here in my teen years. But, he had informed me that Alfonso who was his waiter, was rather rude and made some remarks about and at him. for someone to supposedly own the place after his father, i would like to think he wouldn't hold inappropriate conduct while waiting his tables. the food was average, but the service was horrible and childish. and we won't be returning. sad to see this is how he treats customers. read more

So i waltz into Chubby's for Sunday Brunch... I HATE being nicked & Dimed... Even though there are booths available, i am asked to wait 10 min while they clean a "table". As i waited, i notice a large sign that states "parties of 8 or more will automatically be charged a 25% gratuity fee! 25%??!!??!!??!!! That is HUGE! At $15-$20++ a plate, that would put a bill at $150-200/check that now you are OBLIGATED to tip $50++. This is OUTRAGEOUS! Then i see another sign that says 3.5% fee charged for using a charge card!"! Then.... My husband notices that on their PAPER disposable menus, there are NO PRICES LISTED!!! THAT means they can surcharge ANY amount they feel like & you are obligated to pay!! All this leads me to wondering what happens if i take my grandkids/family out to Sunday Brunch... I would be charged a MINIMUM of $200 (not including drinks!) of which i am obligated to pay ANOTHER $50 (regardless of quality of service) for a tip, then another $20++ for the generous ability to pay on my debit card, only AFTER being charged who knows WHAT for food because NONE OF THE PRICES ARE LISTED!!! They was actual surprise on their faces when i walked out AFTER waiting for 10 min for tables that were clean when i got there 10 min before!!!! I am soooooOOOOOOO TIRED of being surcharged for things that used to not have a charge. I went to House of Waffles & saw what i was going to be charged, then had an excellent meal & was charged EXACTLY what i thought i would be charged with NO SURCHARGES, plus sooo much food i took home 2 doggy bags!!! Have always enjoyed the food here at Chubby's Diner. Great breakfast, burgers with house made buns and old fashioned milkshakes! They are only open until 1pm and you need to be in the door by 12:30pm to get served. Sadly a HUGE disappointment! My husband ordered us a couple meals from here, as a late brunch date. My potatoes and the old grease they used charred up any chance of looking appetizing. Thee only reason I could give it A Star was because of the pancakes being fluffy. But my chicken apple sausage rubbery and burnt didn't help their business one bit. We love coming here. I have been here 3 times. I enjoy the decor as well. so far first time we got the sampler delicious not a fan of the hash browns so the second time I ordered it I got the country potatoes and yummy! The third time I came I got the turkey melt with loaded fries. Also very delicious. The service is pretty fast, Prices are reasonable. Drive from out of town 35 min away to try this but you have to get there before 12:30 although hours say till 1pm Got there at 12:35 and was told we could not be seated party of 2. The food is standard American diet. There is no avocado toast or bean sprouts here. They do make the pancakes how I like it! Some places the pancakes take sweet without putting syrup on them. These pancakes are not sweet and I can add how much syrup I want on it. The like lots of vegetables and like to see more of it. Also I like country style potatoes with onions and bell peppers using russets potato's. They don't use red potatoes, which I like. Some days the service is quick and others days not. Today where we sat we were under the speakers and the 50's music was loud. It's nice that we can get right in and don't have to wait on a Sunday after church. Ordered via Uber eats so I can't say anything about the restaurant it's self. I ordered the Popeyes omelet and country potatoes. Also I got the little Sheila salad for later. The omelet was tasty the potatoes are a bit under done and flavorless, next time I will try hash browns. Asked for ketchup and jelly, both were included. I want to preface this review with this is not my first time at this diner. I frequented this place with my family as a child and have many fond memories of the old Chubby Diner location. This is however my first time at the newish location. The diner still has a similar vibe and I am very fond of the ambiance that is provided. I ordered the Chubby's Original with Cheese and I substituted the French fries for onion rings. Service was quick, attentive and very friendly and the music kept the good vibes going. The burger was great and the onion rings were AMAZING. If you visit here I would definitely recommend substituting the fries for the onion rings. My only con about this restaurant is the hours. I wish it was open at dinner time at least partially during the week or weekend. If you are looking for a place to take the family I would definitely recommend this place. I plan to visit again to try the many milkshake options as well as the breakfast. read more

What a great little 50's style diner with personality. Chubby's is kind of easy to miss as it is on the end of a strip mall, that has a number of vacancies, so don't take the location as an indication of what you will get. Interior is fun, the servers are happy and super efficient, and the food is good, with a really large set of menu items to choose from. Out of the town for the night visiting friends and they recommended we grab breakfast at chubbys diner. It wasn't that long of a wait at all. I got the philly cheese steak sandwhich with curly fries which was very good but could of used a little more meat. The staff was super friendly and even brought me a to go cup for my iced tea. When we left the restaurant out front they were hosting a old school muscle car show, so we were treated to a little free afternoon entertainment. I wasn't sure what to expect since they moved. The new location is about 5 times the size of the previous location. I've seen a few places like this along the former Route 66 and they always seem to make people smile. My buddy and I were up at Lodi and decided to return to Manteca. He had never tried Chubby's and I rave about it as the best burger place in Manteca, so he's been wanting to try it. Service wasn't good. You have to wait for someone to seat you, and if we didn't place your drink order right then, we would have been likely waiting quite a while. It was almost 7 p.m. They have Pepsi products, including Mountain Dew. The soda is $2.49 but comes in a big red tumbler, which probably holds 32 ounces total. It was a very long time before someone brought the drinks and took our order. I expected 3 minutes since they didn't seem to be delivering food or taking orders, but it was quite a bit more. I'm not discounting the number of tables, but if you've got more than 30 seconds to talk, you should be taking care of the customers. I ordered a Mac the Knife, which is a traditional patty melt complete with rye bread, swiss cheese, grilled onions, the beef, and the addition of bacon. This place looks like it goes through a lot of bacon from the menu options. My buddy couldn't find a Bacon Cheeseburger, so he ordered an Avocado and Bacon burger, without the avocado. We were really hungry by the time the food arrived, 1st world problem, that. My fries were not good. The fryer's oil seemed old and they had been sitting a while, but they were still hot. The curly fries my buddy had were much, much, much better. The sandwiches were so good. I could say that this was the best patty melt I've had anywhere in the country. Why three stars? The service was not acceptable. No one was rude but they weren't in any hurry to please. The napkin dispenser hadn't been filled and the ketchup was empty. I ordered the Soldier Boy (eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and toast). It just felt like a meal from Denny's. Pre-cooked bacon and sausage. Eggs were probably beaters rather than real fresh eggs.
