We stopped in after seeing a movie the service was slow but it wasn't a bother since we were chatting about the movie we just watched. Manteca doesn't have a huge selection of restaurants that are up to our standards but we came across DJs (formally Pete's when we began dining here). We have now been coming almost weekly for the last six years. The food and service is always on point! Vanessa, Emmanuel, Paige, and Ana have always made us feel like family. We've come for birthday dinners, graduation dinners and any special event, DJ's is our go to! I went here for lunch on a weekday with two friends and it was not busy at all. But despite that, the service was slow. I think there was just one waitress working. I got the minestrone soup (delicious ) and then asked for a simple grilled chicken breast with well steamed broccoli. Both were good and to my liking. My friend got the fish and chips and it was just one huge piece of breaded fish and the fries were super soggy. He didn't eat very much of it except for a bite or two. For a taphouse, the beer selection was pretty underwhelming. The service was fine, except for one hiccup. I'm pretty sure I was served the wrong beer by mistake, as my beer tasted like mango when it should've been a dark ale that I've had before. When I confronted the waitress, she assured me I was imagining things and I was stuck drinking the contaminated beer. My main concern is that the bartender may be making unacceptable mistakes. Since the prices are high, I'm setting my standards to match. The pork belly appetizer was chewy and the fried wontons were stale. The fish and chips tasted like old oil and the fish was tough since it was overcooked and probably frozen. They were closer to fish sticks than fish and chips. I do not recommend coming as it is too expensive for casual dining, too poor quality for the prices, and they can't even pour a beer correctly for being a taphouse. read more

We came in between the traditional lunch and dinner seating times. The place was not too crowded so we were seated quickly. I wish I would have taken some pictures of our meals. The food came out pretty fast and was delicious. We had the Steak Sandwich and fries which was tasty and cooked to perfection. My daughter and son-in-law had the Chicken Avocado Club and Southwest Salad that they split and enjoyed. Our server (Heather - I think that was her name was very attentive and had a nice personality. I had asked for a water to start, practically no ice in the glass. I ask 3x for a cup of ice alone. I was half way through my meal before receiving it. I ordered a bowl of chicken soup for $12.99. It could not have been more than about a cup and a half. It was not hot and bland. I believe a can of Campbell chicken noodle would have tasted better. It contained chicken broth, a minimal amount of shredded boiled chicken, carrots rounds and thick noodles. Served with 2 packets of saltines. My husband and another member of our group ordered pastrami sandwiches. They might have been 4 slices of meat on each. They were served on a roll. The other 3 meals looked better and the group members said they were good. They ordered steak foccacia, steak salad, and a chicken roll. We ordered 9 drinks. The food and drinks were over priced, from my meal being the cheapest at $12.99 to $25.99 for the steak salad. They also charged a 20% gratuity automatically because we were a group of 6. They have 24 beers on tap. 2 which are rotating, the cider and an IPA. I ordered the fish and chips. It arrived with house made coleslaw and the tartar sauce was missing. The bartender, provided the tartar sauce and sliced lemon when I asked for some. Visually, it looked really good. The fries were slightly over fried. The coleslaw has a heavy onion taste, I didn't like it. The fish was perfect, beer battered and crispy. The tartar sauce was too zesty, citrusy. Overall, I had a good experience. My plate was 6/10. I will say that the chef does know how to cook the chicken because it is juicy and tender. My family has chosen to get the BBQ Chicken Pizza, Garlic Chicken, and the Succulent Ribeye. I would've enjoyed this a lot more if there was more acidity to cut through the richness because the lemon that came on top of my salmon as a garnish was super dry and wasn't helpful at all. ** Salad - My meal came with a side salad which was pretty filling.
