I had a breakdown on my motorcycle yesterday while in the Super H-Mart parking lot in Naperville. I called Progressive Roadside Assistance and explained the situation. They sent Jake from Kit's Towing to pick me up. To be clear, Jake had great customer service and seems like a good guy. He had someone else from Kit's come with to help him tie down the bike on his flatbed tow truck. He explained to me that the special dolly they usually had for motorcycles was broken earlier this summer, and since they don't have a lot of calls for motorcycles (he said 4-5 this summer, compared to HUNDREDS of cars), they hadn't replaced it yet. So they used ratcheting tie-down straps instead. Which would have been fine, except that they weren't careful and I didn't notice it until after the bike was home (where I'd asked them to tow it, since my SO is a mechanic and wanted to look at the bike himself). A lot of modern motorcycles have plastic fairings, so my bike should not have been anything challenging. Just a little extra care would have gone a long way. Instead, one of the pieces of fairing (which we'd recently replaced, I might add -- so I know it was actually pristine) got scuffed. What's really irritating is that to get to the metal handlebars, they had to disengage a two-piece plastic part that goes around them. You can do this without damaging the plastic tabs that lock the thing in place if you just take a moment to be careful with it. It's not difficult or tricky; it just requires not ripping it apart. They're not broken off, but those tabs are now bent pretty badly and we're not sure they'll go back together properly. There's even a place on the plastic where you can see the stress of how much force they put on it (and if you've ever bent dark plastic before, you probably know what this looks like). In conclusion, their customer service is fine. Not knocking that at all. I'm sure they're great if your car needs a tow, but they REALLY need to learn how to strap down motorcycles. Also, these tie-downs are around $40 and make it REALLY easy to strap any bike down securely without needing to even go NEAR anything plastic: http://www.canyondancer.com/ I am in no way affiliated with Canyon Dancer, but they make a product that works better than standard ratchet-type tie-down straps, and could have saved my bike from being damaged. read more

On Tuesday, in an Office Depot parking lot, my vehicle would not start. Our insurance company called its preferred tow company - Kit's Towing. While we had to wait for nearly an hour, the service we received when Kit's Towing did arrive was superior. A very knowledgeable driver identified the problem immediately, provided an understandable explanation, suggested two options for next steps, and wrapped everything up in fewer than 15 minutes. I haven't needed a tow truck in a loooooong time, and perhaps this skewed my expectations. However, the high caliber of the tow truck driver and his high level of expertise were not only refreshing but also a relief. Requested a Tow through my roadside assistance.... sat for an hour. Called to follow up with the Kits to see when they would arrive. The man that answered the phone was RUDE and told me "you'll have to wait we are too busy." I said " I have a confirmation that says you will arrive within the hour." He replied "Not from us, like I told you, we are busy you're 2 behind our next tows so you'll wait at least another hour." It would have been nice to have just a little sympathy or even customer service when on obviously someone is stranded. I needed my car towed to a mechanic shop on Tuesday, Jan 2nd because my car would not start. They stated they would do everything to pick up my car the same day - I did not hear anything back from them at all. I inquired about it the next day (Wed), they finally text me an ETA of 11:27 am, I then called at 11:30 to check why my car hadn't been towed yet, the guy stated they had been completely backed up and revised the ETA to 1:15 pm, since they had gotten police calls and other emergency requests. I called back at 2:30 pm still wondering why my car had NOT been towed, the same guy just basically gave up and asked me to find another towing service since he had no idea when they could pick my car up. He changed the ETA twice and finally asked me to look elsewhere. Completely unprofessional and I prefer to not deal with them ever again. read more

Our car slid off the road. Kits Towing was there under an hour despite the snowy roads. When the cable on the winch broke, the Kits Towing guy explained what happened, left to get it fixed, and suggested we call another tow company. Before the other tow company got there, he was back! He got our car back onto the road. It was less than 50 feet from a railroad track with trains going by, on an incline, with ice and snow and traffic, and facing the opposite direction, yet he did it quickly and safely. I was connected with Kit's via Progressive roadside assistance. The staff is pleasant over the phone. However, I've been waiting four hours for a tow truck now and their hub is at most an hour away. I was hoping to get to the mechanic before they closed, its not looking likely at this point. The dispatcher was very friendly and understanding, but due to a shift change, my line in queue was bumped out of place, turning my 6:00 PM pickup to 9:00 PM after communications with a very rude driver. Jeremy met me to tow my son's car after I couldn't find a reason that it had no power at all. He wanted to make a quick attempt to jump it (I told him I already tried that but why not try). When he connected the terminal, there was suddenly power. The problem was a loose battery connection. He was great about it and we were all set. I'm very happy he tried that first and that it moved the terminal enough to get that connection. I only wish I had seen that myself, but he did the right thing for me. Great person. My insurance company choose this service provider to tow my van to a tire place 1 mile from where i was with the flat tire. Kit's Towing's office was 1.5 miles from my location. ETA was provided to my insurance company as 45 min or 5:03 pm. The driver arrived at 6:20 pm, but could not do the tow! So my insurance company opened a new ticket. The new ETA was 7:45 pm. THEY LOST MY CAR!!! Actually, my car wouldn't start, so via Hyundai Roadside assistance, they sent Kit's towing. It took 1 1/2 hours but part of that was that he went to the wrong street (not blaming him). So at 8:30 am they got the car. I was driven to the dealership later and the car still hadn't arrived by 10 am (it's 15 minutes away)!!! Furthermore, they couldn't contact the tow truck driver. They finally located the car. The receptionist at Kit's said that they did not follow procedure and he's sorry, but there is nothing that they can do for me. The only reason they get one star is the person was nice. I am a customer of State Farm Insurance company and called them b/c my car needed to be towed from my home to the shop. I called state farm at approx. 9am and was told Kit's would be to my house in 1 hour. States farm called me back after 1 hour and a half had gone by asking if the car had been picked up I said no, they contacted Kit's which they then told state farm 10mins. An hour later state farm calls me back asking the same question, no tow truck. Once again Kit's was contacted by state farm and was told they got a call for an accident keeping in mind it is now 12 o' clock noon. Finally 12:45 tow truck shows up. Nice driver and was friendly but as far as everything else goes it sucks. Kit's towing get your calls in order !! No way should an accident/PD call come before an insurance call from 9am in the morning then show up at 12:45 in the afternoon. Kit's Towing was dispatched by Agero for Country Financial Roadside Assistance. They left my son stranded on the side of I-88 during rush hour traffic for 3 hours during a heat wave where the heat index was 105. After they finally picked up the vehicle, we found that they had damaged the transmission. I filed a complaint with Agero, and they have finally agreed (after 1.5 months) that the vehicle was towed incorrectly and will be paying for the damages. Do not use this company. read more

They were called by Ford Roadside assistance. Upon arrival he diagnosed the issue with my transmission. Went under the hood of the car and quickly repaired the connector. I experienced a flat tire while driving, which I did not have the proper tools to change the tire myself. My insurance company, Mutual Liberty, dispatched Kits Towing to tow my vehicle. The estimated time of arrival after I requested road side assistance was 1 hr. 30 minutes. After waiting approximately 30 minutes pass the estimated time of arrival, I called Kits Towing to receive an update. I spoke with the owner, Mr. Kit, provided him with my name and insurance company which he then requested additional details regarding my vehicle type. Based on the conversation and the information he was requesting, it appeared as though I was never scheduled for tow service. After providing Mr. Kit with the information requested, he then indicated that it would take an additional 45 minutes to an hour to arrive at my location because they had to respond to an accident dispatched by the police. After inquiring with Mr. Kit as to why someone did not call me with an updated estimated time of arrival, he became irritated at which point he proceeded to tell me that another service call has been dispatched by the police and they would not be able to assist me. This level of service is unacceptable. Kits Towing was dispatched by my Insurance Company to assist me as I experienced a roadside emergency and they were unable to do so during my time of need. Also, a point worth mentioning is they are located within seven miles from where my vehicle was disabled. After reading the reviews, my experience with Kits Towing is consistent with the reviews read. They promote that the business is family owned, but the service is horrible and I would not recommend Kits Towing to my worst enemy. read more

I had my vehicle towed by Kit's Towing. They overcharged me and was very rude. They said that they needed to use other tools to get my vehicle onto the flat bed. All they did was drive my car onto the truck. I contacted the company and spoke to Cody. He was very aggressive and negative. No customer service skills at all.
