Burger!
Suzanne M.

I have mixed feelings about this place, probably because there is so much potential! The decor is really nice, I like the overall atmosphere & it's pretty clean. The servers were... okay. It took way too long for her to take our drink order, and then way longer to take our food order. In fact, the person taking our food order had her coat on and her purse on her shoulder. That's just weird. Despite the odd service, the burger was delicious, one of the best burgers I've had all year.

Mediocre at best. Prices are pretty high for what you're getting. Service was a bit on the slower side but she was trying. I don't know if we would make a return here sadly. We paid $8 for orange juices that we watched get poured from a jug, that's a bit pricey. Our bill was $65...The quality of food and better service would be beneficial.

Sancerre and oysters? Yea. What a way to start winding down the summer.A fiercely rainy day threatened the patio to close and scared away the live music. But when the sun came out and the humidity dropped, perfect weather and a "welcome" glass o bubbles said "helloooo friends". The lump crab and artichoke dip is SOOOO good, you want to lick the little serving dish.Grilled brie? Yes, please. Ricotta gnocchi with scallops scampi - absolutely delightful. And if you want to find out if a restaurant is worth their keep, order chicken. If they kill the chicken into dry oblivion... you know they can't cook. Well, Chef CAN cook a mean, juicy, tender and sinfully delicious chicken. Needless to say, a good time was had by all. Among friends and family.

The hottest spot for Benedict lovers. My shrimp and polenta eggs Benedict was the absolute. This spot will be a new favorite for brunches.

Tomato and mushroom risotto: very good, rice on top was slightly underdone but the rest was delicious

We've been here a few times mostly for dinner, once for brunch Vibe: very nice little restaurant with a bar and outdoor seating Service: consistently very good Food: ranges from good to delicious, love that they use mostly local ingredients, menu changes over time Value: on the $$ end and most of the time the food is very good and the servings are decent so I'd say on point in terms of pricing Overall we typically really enjoyed our meals here, will return, and would recommend.

Gnocchi and Brussels sprouts

A tiny little spot on the main strip in Hudson, that you could miss, but I recommend you don't. Although we had reservations the place is small and our table wasn't ready on time. No worries because we had a drink at the bar, with a very pleasant bartender. Nice selection of local drafts as well as some funky mixed drinks. Their Menu is full of eclectic meals with strange pairings. However the pairings worked. Wife had the clams with fettuccine. There were a good portion of clams and the fettuccine was obviously hand made in house. I had the Gnocchi with Brussel sprouts and short rib meat. I was really impressed by the gnocchi and the short rib meat. We finished with a warm brownie and ice cream sundae. The crowd was lively and definitely local and friendly

Pastrami Sandwich

It was good not great. Maybe I ordered the wrong items off the menu but the food here was just average and seemed to be missing something. I tried the broccoli cheddar soup which was good and thick which gave great homemade vibes but it was lukewarm at best when it made it to the table and the flavor was more watery than broccoli or cheese. I also tried the pastrami sandwich which was more of a classic NY sandwich than I was expecting since there were no toppings on it (sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc). It really needed some mustard or something to amp up the flavor which is a shame because the pastrami was cooked perfectly. The special drinks were also lacking flavor - the lavender lemonade was ok and the cherry coke mixed drink just tasted like coke with a hint of something not quite cherry. They both left a lot to be desired. Overall the food here wasn't bad and the service was great so I might try to come back and try something else - maybe we caught them on an off day.

The menu and reviews looked amazing. We must have come on an off day as the service was extremely slow. It took us over 2hrs for breakfast. It seemed as though where we were seated in the front corner was being covered by the bartender and so she had a lot of seats to cover. She had the 4 tables up front and the bar. This was at 10am on a Sunday. We were a table of 6 and when we sat down we were given 4 waters. When the caramel bread appetizer was delivered, we had no utensils or plates to begin eating. Three of the meals had poached eggs which ended up being hard. From the looks of the hollandaise, it looks like they were sitting under a warmer for sometime. Although the presentation of the food was excellent, the length of time and quality did not match the cost. I hope others have better experiences and that this was just an off day.

Just got the short rib Mac and cheese! It is horrendous. There's barely any congealed cheese on half the pasta. Definitely not a cheesy sauce. It was hot at least. Tastes like what a dark old damp hallway smells like. Parking was very easy at 5:30 pm on a weekday. Food, though disgusting, only took 15 minutes! Not my most proud use of $20.

Grilled Swordfish

We came here Thursday night after wine tasting in the area. I love the country chic decor and the service was great. The bar area looks like a fun local spot to hang out and drink. Unfortunately the food missed the spot. The Fall Seasonal Salad was just ok. It didn't have enough dressing. The Duck Quesadilla was good but pretty spicy. The burger was good but the fries were burnt. The fish from the baked fish and chips plate was burned. I forgot to get a picture of it, but when you turned it over it was obviously burnt. As well as the fried on this plate being burned as well. The Swordfish was also burnt. The short rib gnocchi was bland and mushy. The lobster ravioli was delicious and the sauce was very rich.

He was phenomenally nice, helpful and just a genuinely awesome person to deal with. Their food is top notch, everything is fresh, the chicken is outrageously good and the grilled cheese my daughter got was out of this world good (I stole a bite). The hot honey chicken sandwich is addictive but most of all knowing their ingredients are fresh and there aren't short cuts is the best part of the whole Nan's experience. But Chris was the kind of employee everyone dreams of hiring, it was over a month ago we were there but I made it a point to write this review because of him and their food. Can't recommend him and Nan's enough.

Love, love, love it! It was so tasty but it also literally felt good while eating and after. Like I was fueling my body with pure goodness. I wish we had a Nan's near where we live. It made me feel normal being able to choose something from a full menu instead of trying to figure which of the 3 GF options I would wind up with. I appreciated that they had a designated server to deliver my gluten free dish to avoid any cross contamination. I would recommend this as a restaurant for those who are gluten sensitive to visit. I chose the Hot Honey Chicken which was a pickle brined, breaded, cajun seasoned fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The chicken was really big extending past the bun both ways showing a crispy fried exterior with a small puddle of the hot honey puddling on the plate. The first bite proved it wasn't false advertising, it was tender and juicy inside with a nice flavor of spice with a pleasing crunch from the breaded coating. I couldn't put the sandwich down, mostly because I didn't want to put my sandwich back in the puddle of honey which would have made my bun soggy but also because that chicken breast poking out at me was begging for another bite. My Boo noticed I was really into the sandwich because he said it was unusual that I wasn't devouring my fries while they were piping hot (I love hot fries). They were good too but that hot honey chicken - yum! My Boo had, from the regular, not gluten free menu, the clam chowder soup and shrimp poke bowl. He enjoyed them both and they both look very appetizing but I only had eyes for my hot honey chicken. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the food but it came out very pleasing to the eyes. The only thing I thought the restaurant could improve on is the attire of their workers. First impressions matter and though the hostess was pleasant she should have given more attention to her attire and appearance. Also, our waittress didn't offer to refill our water. Other than that we enjoyed it. When we travel back through here, I'm coming again.

Finnegans didn't look as busy as some of the eateries on Main Street so we thought cautiously we'd give it a try, knowing all the while that if its not busy it's usually a good sign to stay away. We walked into a warm and casual dining room that offered a bar in the main room with locals casually chatting over a few drinks. The bar clientele were not disruptive to our dining experience whatsoever. The service was fast and friendly and the menu had a nice varied menu of good old American food. Burgers, Fries, Fish, Chicken and Beef. I ordered the sirloin tips and my husband ordered the Fish and Chips. In what was a comfortable amount of time our food came to the table piping hot and absolutely delicious. The haddock was light, flaky and obviously fresh covered with a light breading that was perfectly season. The fries were hot and perfectly deep fried. My sirloin tips were exceptional, perfectly charred on the outside and a beef eaters delightful rare to medium rare inside. Marinated perfectly not overstated but just enough to enhance the delicious and tender tips. Not served with gravy or a mushy sauce of peppers and onions or whatever just perfectly cooked beef tips. I think they surely gave the nearby Wildwood Steakhouse a run for the money. My mashed potatoes were piping hot, lightly seasoned and tasted like home made with a home made texture and a few lumps. The veggies were fresh, perfectly cooked al dente' and I smiled as the chef Tom, peeked out the door to give and get a grateful thumbs up. A very pleasant evening out in a pub that certainly does not get enough raves about its fast and friendly service, and truly great food. One note, if its shift change time you might want to make sure that its your waitress that gets her tip before she leaves. Thanks Tom, we will be back.

Back for Seconds: A Review of Checkerboards Restaurant & Bar in Judson, MA…read moreThe Verdict: Round two, and I'm still here. That has to count for something, right? I returned to Checkerboards recently, mostly to confirm that the deliciousness of my first visit wasn't just a hunger-induced hallucination. I am happy to report that the pizza remains structurally sound and emotionally supportive. Here's the breakdown of the second outing: The Atmosphere: It has that classic "I'm here to eat 2,000 calories and I don't care who sees me" energy. It's cozy, it's bustling, and the checkered decor is still successfully keeping me from forgetting the name of the establishment. The Food: I dove into the pizza again because I'm a creature of habit and change scares me. The crust had that perfect "crunch-to-chew" ratio that scientists should really be studying more closely. It's the kind of pizza that makes you consider ordering a second one just to have as a pillow for the inevitable food coma. The Service: The staff is impressively fast. I'm convinced they have a psychic link with the kitchen. My drink arrived before I even fully realized I was thirsty, which is either great service or light sorcery. The "Second Visit" Realization: You know a place is good when you spend the entire car ride there debating if you should try something new, only to panic and order exactly what you had last time because the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out... on that specific sauce) is too real. Final Thought: If you see me there a third time, don't be alarmed. Just pass the parmesan and mind your business. Rating: 5/5 Stars. I'll be back for round three once my treadmill forgives me.
