Sausage Gravy over biscuit with side of potatoes
    Larry F.

My wife and I went here for breakfast today. We had an amazing experience. Our server Shea was one of the best servers I had the pleasure of meeting. Her knowledge of the menu and great personality was top notch. As for the food, one word Aweeeeesome. My wife had the sausage gravy over biscuits and potatoes on the side. She said it was very delicious and one of the best biscuits and gravy meals she had. I had the breakfast bowl special which after today will not be on the menu. It was the best breakfast bowl I ever had hands down. The quality of the ingredients were stunning. The bowl consisted of Chorizo, two eggs any way you like, avocado, pickled onions, black beans, jalapeño peppers, and tomatoes tossed in olive oil. The flavors are amazing. I only wish they would keep it in the menu. And yes I will go there again to try other menu items.

An IG post a week ago resulted in a spur of the moment breakfast run. Awesome service and delicious food (s/o to the in-house made sausage and biscuits). Looking forward to many more trips here. You didn't disappoint! I ate my food way too fast to post more pics, sorry!

    Shrimp Nashville Gravy Benedict

Pro: my previous visits to Kitchen87 have been absolutely satisfying, and I thought that it really couldn't get any better. However, the recent special I was lucky enough to experience was a game changer! Ladies and gents, let's talk about the "Shrimp Nashville Gravy Benedict". It's a cheddar biscuit, topped by battered/fried jumbo shrimp, adorned with Nashville hot sauce, and capped with over-easy eggs. THIS WAS MAGICAL!!! Con: I'm not sure how long they'll have this special. When it departs, I'll be sad. Bottom Line: I won't cry when this meal is over; I'll simply smile because it happened!

Truly a great find! Our server was attentive, friendly and funny. The food was great. The ambiance was nice and comfortable. I ordered shrimp and grits which was good (with a side of crispy hash browns). My daughter really liked their Reuben sandwich (and this place is great for those with peanut and sesame seed allergies! Thank you!). But I would say the winner was my husband's breakfast sandwich- he ordered one with two fried eggs, Swiss cheese, mushrooms and pork roll and claimed it's the best breakfast sandwich he ever had. He generously let me have one bite and it was really good. We'll def be back!

This place never disappoints. The shrimp & grits is my absolute favorite (bursting my flavors)! The Huevos rancheros is also delicious. The pancakes are so huge & so fresh & sweet, we usually get them as a "breakfast dessert" to share at the table. The coffee is always good & I love how they serve it in random coffee mugs, it adds charm. This place is always busy, but that's a good sign. It's worth the wait & service is quick, friendly, & efficient!

This was my first time at Kitchen 87 and the customer service was outstanding!! I was approached by staff as if I was family!! I was hooked from the energy and vibe I received when walking in!! I order chicken and waffles with corn beef hash with a cranberry drink on the side! I got all of this food under 20$! Food was delicious!! My waffles were soft and fluffy and the chicken was cooked perfectly!! I enjoyed the spicy syrup too!! My waiter, Eric, was absolutely right when he said "you'll be back and you will love the food!" Well, Eric was right and I will definitely be back!!

I wish I could give Kitchen87 more stars, but 5's the limit. The food, atmosphere and service are top notch! You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu. I can say that with confidence because we ate almost everything :)

Chicken and Waffles w/ sauce on the side (don't mind the small bite taken out of one of the pieces of chicken lol)

There's parking in front but also a very large lot behind the restaurant). We were immediately seated and given menus to browse while we waited for our server. The menu, while smaller, still has many fun and interesting options so we had no problem deciding on our meals (& drinks). The Blackberry Smash and the Autumn Cow-Man were the cocktails we ordered and the Thai Chili Brussels, Cheesesteak Eggrolls were the apps and the Buffalo Wings and Grilled Chicken Sandwich were the entrees. ALL THE FOOD (& drinks) were AMAZING!!!! Flavors were popping! Portions were generous! The food truly lived up to all the hype! The only reason the review isn't 5 stars is because our server was seriously on delay ... it had nothing to do with being busy because we had clear sight of him the entire time ... he was just on "island time" in NJ lol! We didn't make a big deal out of it because we were in no rush and were really enjoying ourselves but if he would've been on his Ps and Qs this would've been a 5 star review. Honestly, this is probably the only thing that I absolutely loved out of all the mails that we picked out.. The pasta literally lacks sauce as you can see it's more of meat and red sauce, but it didn't even cover all the pasta when you mixed it in. Which also like seasoning flavors. We ordered the pizza for our kids. Our kids were a little disappointed by it as they had more onions than they had of actual meat. A lot of of the onions was covered by the cheese.. The burger I feel like it lacks a description as I didn't know it came with two onion rings and by the time we got home, which is not even five minutes away, the cheese had already hardened. I decided on getting sweet potato fries. They were extremely soggy. They weren't fully cooked. The calamari rings were good however, the sauce is the exact same pasta sauce used for the spaghetti, which was a little bit disappointing. I was recommended this place as I was visiting the area and I love enjoying and trying new places however I try to keep it as honest as possible. There is room for improvement the presentation as well. The food looks aesthetically pleasing however, the lack of flavors is very offputting.. This was a pick up so the service was pretty quick.

Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

The Alfredo sauce sadly did overpower the dish, and there just was not enough crab to come through. Some bread on the side would have been a treat to soak up all the sauce and bits of crab. The eggplant parmigiana had many layers of tasty eggplant and their flavorful sauce. I am glad we ordered the fries on the side, because they came seasoned and went perfectly with both meals. We decided to take our desserts home with us, and the limoncello was our standout favorite.
