The crunchy breading on the chicken with the hot and sweet buffalo sauce was a great compliment to the soft and tasty waffles. My wife had the juevos rancheros. She says that they were the best juevos rancheros she ever had- tortillas were crunchy and served as a great vehicle for the tasty juevos, chorizo and extras. For egg sandwiches and omelets, you can build your own, making it as simple or decadent as you like. Cozy, clean atmosphere, friendly staff, and an all-around good experience. I was looking for a breakfast or brunch spot and found this gem on yelp. The food was beyond excellent and the service rendered was phenomenal. Jen was our server, but I noticed other staff step in to help or ask the guests how's everything or if anything else is needed. We will be back for sure. Came here on a Sunday morning and upon entering got greeted right away by staff. It was the weekend so it was a bit packed but we were seated within ten minutes. Since this was our first time visiting the waiter went over some thing's about the menu and the daily special. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I decided to get the tofu scramble and a side of potatoes with pepper and onions. The tofu scramble was delicious just kinda wish it had more tofu. It had plenty of vegetables which is great and I added avocado. The potatoes were good. My friend order an omelette that came with potatoes, grits and waffles. He enjoyed his omelette and potatoes. The cheddar grits however had no taste which was disappointing. We shared the waffles topped with strawberries and whipped cream that was delicious. read more

Stopped in with family during my extended stay. I'd heard rave reviews and couldn't wait to see if it met my expectations. It's a small, but cozy little place and to wait for a table, but I take that to mean the food is good. We weren't disappointed. If you happen to be in the Mount Holly area, give it a try! You're never a stranger in Kitchen 87. The staff is super friendly and they treat us like friends we've known for years. Kitchen 87 is always busy, but the staff is never frazzled or rude. The food? It's amazing. I LOVE their Chicken and Waffles and the Chicken Spinach Panini is stellar. Every meal I've had at Kitchen 87 has had ample portions and fresh ingredients. The one downside I ever encountered was parking. It was always hard for me to find a parking spot. That problem has been solved because a parking lot has been opened across the street. Park in the lot and you're only a few steps away from the front door. A couple of pieces of advice. Get there early. It's a small place and locals love it, so you'll have to wait for a seat if you go too late. Also, don't be afraid to sit at the counter. I find that's a great place to chat with the servers. Go. Picked this place for a first date breakfast based on the rave reviews. Went on a Sunday and the place was packed, which is usually a good sign. Only waited about 20 mins to be seated. Our waitress, Lindsey, along with the rest of the staff were attentive and super friendly. The waiter at the counter announced it was a customer's (Jay) birthday and asked everyone to join in and sing Happy Birthday! My date and I both had the chicken and waffles and shared a homemade 'everything' English muffin. Two words...YUM and Satisfying!! At the end, our waitress told us another customer had paid for our breakfast...a pleasant surprise to say the least!! Headed for lunch around 1pm. Place was packed which was good because the place looks a bit like a dive and I may have left based on dirty appearance. But glad I stayed. Seated party of six fast. Server was amazing- friendly,attentive and knowledgeable with smart recommendations of what to get and not to get. Food portions were huge and everything well done. I have been wanting to go go the Kitchen87 for so long, but never made it there. Fortunately for me, I happened to be down the road on a cold and snowy day. The atmosphere is great, the staff and service was great, and most importantly the food was great. I had breakfast and my wife had lunch. Don't think you can go wrong based on everything we saw get served to the other tables Kitchen87 is for breakfast and lunch only. Took an opportunity to read Yelp reviews for this location. Upon walking in you could see the friendly faces of both customers and employees smiling. Our name were taken and within minutes we were sitting down at the counter as the line for tables were out the door. We ordered the corn beef hash a corn muffin chicken and waffles and the most delicious scrapple I've ever had. We had an opportunity to speak with other patrons as well as the order and got the family background of this location. The food was IA level of deliciousness I cannot articulate in words alone. Kitchen 87 is one of my favorite Mom and POP restaurant. It server breakfast and lunch and the service is ALWAYS spot on. Their attention to detail is amazing. They always get my order right whether in a small group or large. The food is always delicious and cooked to perfect. The eggs are farm fresh and the fruits are locally picked. The best thing of course is the COFFEE... the cups are amazing because the size ranges are phenomenal. I had my biggest cup of coffee ever from here and let me tell u it was worth every sip. The wait staff is attentive and polite and know how to roll with the punches. The cook puts his foot into ever meal they send out. Definitely recommend. What it lacks in height it makes up for in width! The service was a but slow but the server checked on us to make sure that we were okay while we waited for our food to come out. The pancakes are the large fluffy homemade kind and they will add the fruit and chocolate chips if you like. The home made English muffin must NOT be passed over- yum! The huevos rancheros is ordered a lot among my friends and is very tasty. Sandwiches and hamburgers for lunches are excellent also. Quick, funny, knowledgeable and friendly. There is a significant military family presence here. (Our son-in-law is stationed near here in the Air Force) They welcome you with open arms and love on you like their own family. The overall feel of the restaurant is warm and inviting. It immediately makes you think "the food here must me great". And you know what? The food here is amazing! Between the 4 of us we ordered chicken and waffles, stuffed french toast, cheese steak breakfast sandwich, omelets etc... not one thing wasn't delicious. A new generation of "comfy casual" dining is sprouting around the nation, and its seeds have germinated in Mt. Holly. Kitchen 87 has taken root and its flowers are blooming even in the depth of winter. While most diners, luncheonettes and cafés are second or third generation owned and operated, or simply maintaining the status quo under new management, this creekside establishment is going in a new direction. Young owners with fresh ideas and fine execution bring streetlife and adventurous palates to once bucolic Mt. Holly. Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional places making good food and reminding me of home. Yet, there is plenty of room for a joint using the same ingredients, but reconstructing the menu into something unique and totally enjoyable, while keeping the sense of hearth and home through their use of most of the same tools and kitchenware with which we are all familiar. From the vantage point of a counter stool, a spin around shows a wall lined with booths, a bunch of tables mid-floor, and a swinging kitchen door through which very friendly and gregarious servers come and go. They are obviously proud of what they are doing, and want to share their confidence and happiness at being part of this enterprise. I had good conversations with two women who were interested in more than just light pleasantries. They really wanted to know what I thought about their place, and a slice of my worldview. I was pleased to share. My breakfast was on par with everything else that was happening inside Kitchen 87. I had the "Which Came First" Sandwich - Breaded Chicken Patty, Swiss, Fried Egg, on a Brioche Roll, with Home Fries on the side. It was a hot, happy, delicious, mess. Knife and fork were mandatory, as it was too big and slick to be handled. Everything melded well together, with drippy egg running through everything and giving its blessing to the rest. The taters were dark grilled and spiced just right. I really enjoyed every bite, although I could not finish the side. The Coffee was brewed strong and the pot returned to me several times. The menu is extremely innovative and interesting - lots of items you don't normally see, like stuffed French toast, huevos rancheros, shrimp & grits.
