Love this place; I've been coming here for many years, since it opened. It is one of my favorite stores in the area, of any kind. So, the shopper's conundrum is why pay a little more at a store like this, rather than just buy on Amazon. I personally buy a ton of stuff on Amazon, and I don't generally like most stores. But this is one that I frequent, for these reasons: 1. It is a thoughtfully curated collection of items. The owner is a professionally trained chef (read about her on the store website), and the stock here is all practical, high quality, at a variety of price points, and sometimes just fun. 2. The customer service is fantastic. The people who work here are all experienced in the kitchen and they have good insights into how to select and use what they sell. You can have a long, discursive conversation about the merits of one $5 item compared to another. I have found them to be exceptional also at recommending gifts. 3. You can hold things and see them in person, as opposed to relying on marketing writing and often fake online reviews. 4. The vibe here is a delight. It is clean and organized, easy to find things. Back to customer service, the people here are fun to be around. For example, I was once trying to choose between thermometers, and the person helping me matter-of-factly mentioned that the one I was looking at came in either red or black. I choose red, and she lit up and said "Yay!!!" and clapped her hands. So funny..... Anyway, this is a great place, and I value all that they bring to this store. read more

There's very little that they don't have (or have access to), from fun gadgets to major cookware. Are there items that can be purchased for less at Amazon or TJ Maxx? This used to be a local favorite store of mine. No longer. We've spent, literally, thousands of dollars here over the years...always rationalizing that their sky high prices were justified by supporting a local business. We recently purchased, among other things, this cute little travel mug. Very pricey ($30) but assured by the owner it was a great mug, telling us she owns it as well. (Which she says about virtually everything you ask her about). When we tried to use the mug it was horrid. No insulting properties whatsoever. Burns your hand. Smells like rubber. Garbage. When we attempted to return it (with receipt) a couple days later we were brusquely told they would not take it back because it had been used. No merchandise credit. No refund. No apology. Zip. You know, you probably paid $8 for that mug you charge $30 for and now you've lost a loyal and local customer. I looked the mug up on Amazon and it sells for 30% less and guess what? I would have been able to return it with zero hassle. I hope it was worth losing a good customer over a couple bucks. read more

Convenient location and pretty much the only store like it in the area but again you pay for that when shopping here. They have some good options that are more or less affordable but the high ticket items will be just that. We recently ordered a Fletcher's Mill salt and pepper grinder through Kitchen Outfitters' website. They arrived within a matter of days, packed well. Unfortunately, the wooden top of the salt grinder had a defect in it. With Christmas so close, and the need to send out a "box" to our son on the west coast, we were concerned our gift wouldn't get there in time. We called and explained our situation last night. We emailed a photo of the item, and within minutes, Willa was planning to ship a new salt grinder directly to our son. She wrapped it with a red ribbon and added a note not to open it until Christmas, and a complimentary bag of salt. It was refreshing to have someone who not just stood by their product but was pleasant and genuinely cared that our gift arrived in time. Thank you! We will certainly shop here again! read more

I always knew there was a small mall at the intersection of Routes 2A, 119 and 27 in Acton but I don't think I ever shopped there. I have a vague memory of a children's clothing store long ago . . . but I think it was closed for the day when I found the mall. I went to investigate the new location (which might be more than a year old) for Quilter"s Way and thought I would stroll around the mall, particularly when the woman at the quilt shop said there was a coffee shop in the mall. Surprise! It was locally owned and welcoming. Then I noticed Kitchen Outfitters. I'm a veteran cook and baker and I love independently owned cook shops. On Saturday, my daughter and I had visited the Burlington Mall where she had a less than satisfactory experience at Williams-Sonoma and I faced the utter chaos and unabashed rip off that is Sur La Table which sells cheap copies of Italian ceramics made in China, the last country in the world to manufacture anything. Sigh. Yes, there are things made in China at Kitchen Outfitters. There are also things made in America, France, Germany and Spain. The shop brims with good quality merchandise. There are All-Clad, Staub, Le Creuset, Revol, Fissler and other high quality cookware manufacturers represented here. I have a well stocked kitchen but there were still things, both practical and decorative, that I wished I could have bought, both for myself as well as for gifts. I want to take a moment to counter the person who called the Concord Shop a mess. Really??? It is well organized and well stocked. So what if no one greets you. Perhaps, the owner is treating you like an adult and is not following the example of Williams-Sonoma where the staff -- in the words of many who have worked there -- are forced to "stalk" the customers for security reasons and to push products on naive and/or overwhelmed customers. The company calls this pushiness "speaking in the voice of the product." Really??? I just call it obnoxiousness or hypocrisy. I will buy what I need at Different Drummers Kitchen or The Concord Shop or Kitchen Outfitters any time over Williams-Sonoma (which does offer a unique line of French goods . . .although I don't remember seeing the lovely copper ware there on my last visit) or the fraudulency of Sur La Table. I love this store, and find it very helpful and can find 'everything' for my family of cooks. The staff is knowledgable, helpful and friendly; and can explain why one pot/knife/bowl/etc. is different or better for my needs than another. And they keep up with new products, techniques, I do not find it expensive as everything purchased there is a real value. From my perspective, Kitchen Outfitters is a perfect local resource. I've been shopping here for years! The folks who work here are all so friendly and helpful. They really know their products and stay current on reviews. Their prices are very competitive, which I find surprising in a local, small business. I'm usually willing to pay a bit more to support local businesses, but it's not even a concern here. I've compared the prices of many items I've purchased from them to big online retailers like Amazon. Kitchen Outfitters has always been either the same price or, in a few cases, even cheaper. What also surprises me is how they always seem to have exactly what I'm looking for, even when I'm looking for an exact brand/model or just something completely obscure. After having read some other reviews, I'd like to point out that they doubled the size of their store not too long ago. Some of the older reviews don't take this into account. The increased store size allows them to carry an even more diverse inventory. As far as reviewers thinking they are expensive, that simply isn't the case. The do stock higher end items, so if you're looking for bottom of the line to save a buck, then this might not be the store for you. However, it you value quality brands such as Le Creuset, Breville, and the like, their prices are hard to beat! read more

As the previous reviewer mentioned, their selection is not too hot. My item was not there. They offered me a catalogue from which to choose. Starting at that moment, there has been one disappointment after another. Let me summarize. I ordered a Teapot on July 3rd and paid for it in full, as requested. On the 13th I received a call saying that the supplier had the item in stock and that I have to come in and pay for it (1). I came to the store in the morning of July 22nd (another 10 days later) to inquire about my order and was told that it was shipped from the supplier (2), that they had to order 4 of the units as per the supplier's policy (3), and that if I give them my e-mail they would e-mail me the tracking information that they already had from the supplier (4). 1) What exactly was my order doing for 10 days between July 3rd and 13th? As they said, this is not like Amazon. It's not! If I, or anyone I work with, had a 10 day response time to customers or clients, we would all be out of work. Additionally, since I was asked to come in and pay for the item during this call, I conclude that I did not have to pay for the item up front. It is not good policy to mislead customers about store rules and does not inspire confidence or trust. This is unacceptable and I WILL be shopping elsewhere next time, perhaps Amazon. 2) If the supplier takes over a week to deliver the items, I would recommend that they switch suppliers. As above, this is not an acceptable time frame. 3) The customer does not need to know that the store had to order units in bulk in order to fill his or her order. You have a relationship with this supplier. If they do not like their policies, do not offer customers their catalogues. 4) Where is my tracking information? I am looking forward to finally receiving my teapot so that this nightmarish service ends. This is the worst order experience I have had in decades and will be very certain to share my experiences with friends, neighbors, colleagues, and others. After 3 weeks of this runaround, I still do not have my order. Unless you see the item on the shelf ... my advice is ... WALK OUT! read more

My favorite kitchen store, in fact, I travel 50 miles roundtrip to shop here instead of kitchen retailers much closer to me. Why? Because they have great stuff, items that you can actually touch and see if it feels good in use, a friendly staff who are not only knowledgeable about what they're selling, but make sure you're completely satisfied before you leave the store. Even though they are a relatively small store, it's well laid out, bright, filled with quality items and the prices are comparable to even internet sellers. This is a small kitchen store in Acton. Amazingly given its size, every time I've gone in I've found exactly what I was looking for, as well as many items I hadn't even known I wanted. The selection is well thought out, with items that are both useful and good quality. Further, the staff has been helpful even when I've gone in on a crowded pre-holiday weekend. I love to stop in this store whenever I'm in the area, since I can always find something new that I've just got to have. They have a great combination of classic "last a lifetime" brands (All-Clad, Le Creuset, Cuisinart, Viking, Krups, Wusthof) and cool, innovative new tools and equipment worth a try. In fact, they have an area with cutting board and veggies set up so you can test out some of the tools. They have a friendly, knowledgeable staff who can "talk cooking" rather than just spout product specs. Other pluses include knife sharpening service, gift wrapping, and classes/workshops. If there's any one criticism I have, it's that the shop is too small to carry everything they could, and it's so jam-packed with things to check out that you can overlook some items. On my last visit (10/09), however, they were working on an expansion that looks to about double the space. Hurray! read more

I can't drive by this store without stopping in. Kitchen Outfitters always has a wide range of products at a range of price points. They carry standard products as well as a revolving inventory of new and seasonal products. I love that I can go in and feel the products, but what I appreciate the most about Kitchen Outfitters is the extremely helpful and knowledgable staff. Without exception, everyone who has ever helped me in that store was able to answer any question I had and expertly explain the differences between items, brands, gadgets, etc. Kitchen Outfitters is more than a trove of kitchen gear; the staff is like a cook's and baker's reference librarian. Once I even went in to buy a wok, and was sent home without a new wok but with the knowledge of how to restore and season the old one I have. I have many times assumed that amazon would sell a particular item at half the price of KO and decided to buy online. On those occasions when I simply didn't have the time to wait for the 3-4 days for mail delivery, I tended to be pleasantly surprised that the price differences where actually rather modest. 10% higher price on an article that costs $20-50 is really minor when you consider that at KO you (i) get to touch and feel the items you are buying BEFORE you buy, (ii) very often get competent and useful advice from the salesperson and (iii) are supporting local economy. I find myself going more and more to KO FIRST and leaving amazon as a fall back. Love this store! read more

This store is an excellent place to purchase kitchen items. I've invested in several key tools here and each time was guided expertly by the helpful staff. While they will not ruin a browsing experience, they are quick to ask if you are looking for something in particular. If you are making a relatively big purchase, this is where the value of shopping here really comes in. They ask good questions and really listen to the customer. They have researched their products make excellent recommendations. Once i went in prepared to drop a hundred bucks on a mandoline, but after learning that all i really wanted was fine slicing, they recommended a much less expensive hand tool that suited perfectly. When i wanted a pressure cooker, but was new to using one, they gave expert advice on size and model, suggesting a significantly lower priced brand (but an American Test Kitchen pick) over the pricey one. Again, perfect in use. When they carry only one brand for an item or suggest the higher-end item, i trust that it has been chosen thoughtfully and with my satisfaction in mind. read more

A small and admittedly expensive store, but incredibly well-stocked and with very nice staff. A wide range of gourmet and professional products that you don't usually find in a suburban location. If you factor in the cost of time/gas trekking to Boston or a big mall, the price difference disappears. I have family in the Acton, MA area and never miss the opportunity to visit Kitchen Outfitters when I'm in town. The entire staff loves to cook and knows the inventory inside and out. I've overheard a few conversations that have particularly impressed me where customers could have easily been up-sold but, instead, the staff has recommended a lower-priced/mid-priced option because it best suited the need. There is always new, fresh inventory and, if something isn't available, the staff takes the time to place a special order for exactly what you're looking for. I guess all-in-all I'd recommend Kitchen Outfitters because of the knowledgable and top notch customer service.
