Beware! Inaccurate cutting, poor customer service. Mediocre selections. Won't ever go back. This know-it-all prides himself with accurate cutting however, he shorted us 2 inches when we ordered a half yard. He's very boastful in the fact that he claims to have the lowest prices anywhere in the United States. And by the way, God, forbid you mention a different, Quilt Shop! Maybe that's why he shorted us! needed to recover dining room cushions, took cushion to store found a fabric, I was told I need 3 yards for 6 cushions purchasing fabric. next day covered the cushions and I still have 53 inches of left over fabric, could have easily been done with 2 yards. waste of $38. they are the professionals they should know how much is needed read more

Wow! This place is tiny but mighty. The shop is loaded with every type & style of fabric you can imagine and more that you can't, as well as all the notions you will need to go with your purchase. Fabric Corner may have 1/10th (or less) square footage of a JoAnns but they have better quality stock and make much better use of their space & they focus on fabrics not crafts, home decor, etc. The most important thing to know about FC is that the employees know their stuff and are happy to be working there (the same cannot be said of their competitors). If you are new to sewing, an expert or somewhere in between you will feel right at home at Fabric Corner. COVID-I was very impressed by FC. They strongly limit the number of patrons inside the store by keeping a line outside and only admitting new customers when an equal number depart. This is tasking for the employees but keeps the staff as well as customers safe. Masks are required, distancing monitored & enforced & hand sanitizer is available. Well done! read more

We were scammed. We dropped off a beautiful White sewing machine for a cleaning/repair. We were told it would be a "nothing" repair, but they took a $105 deposit. We asked for a receipt and they gave us a register receipt but with no information on it about the machine or our names, which we thought was unusual. We were in the middle of a move so we didn't follow up for a couple of months, although we were surprised we never heard anything from the shop. When we called this week we were told that they left two messages for us (which we definitely never got - checked our message history) and that the machine was "unrepairable", and they "got rid of it." We then were told to call back and talk to the manager, but that we could come in and they would give us a free machine in its place. We stopped in to the store a day or two later and we were given the same story. A brand new but definitely inferior machine was handed to us. The store kept our $105 "deposit". We walked out feeling like we had no other option. We ended up with a $250 new "beginner" machine but we lost a machine that was probably better made and who knows if it was worth more. The whole thing was bizarre and definitely did not feel kosher. We paid $105 plus a high quality machine that probably just needed a cleaning for a low-end machine the owner probably bought for nothing in bulk. read more

I went there to get simple velvet and cotton fabrics. I have to say Mark S. and Mark W. are simply the best. Both incredibly helpful and one makes you laugh. They have fabric galore especially for quilting and upholstery and any pattern you could desire in cotton. Mark W was super helpful and told me where to go for, for the extra fabric I'm looking for. I had already gone to Gather Here in Inman Square and they are the rudest people I've come across in the Boston area. They'll get an honest review too in a few days. This is really the most extraordinarily wonderful fabric shop -- I feel like a kid in a candy shop every time I go in, surrounded by all the bright colors and fabulous prints! Mark the owner is so cheerful and helpful, you can't help but smile and be reminded that THIS is why it's so important to shop locally at independent small businesses, rather than some sterile giant chain store like Michael's or JoAnn's or Amazon. He picks out every roll of fabric himself, and you can just tell how much he loves each one, and helping people find just what they're looking for. Fabric Corner has the largest selection of batiks in every imaginable color, gorgeous jewel-toned Kaffe Fassett prints, whimsical prints that would be perfect for kids' clothing or curtains or pillows, and a large array of beautiful upholstery options in the back section, including fade-resistant Sunbrella prints that would work well for outdoors. There are also some fantastic Aboriginal prints that I had only seen in Australia before! For quilters, there's a fantastic array of Kona solids and other lines, too. You can also find cozy flannels and fleeces (PJ's and cuddle blankets, anyone?). Super rude on the phone. I was trying to inquire about fabrics to order and pickup and he kept saying you cannot come into the store. I understand that but he would not even let me finish when I told him I was going to be in the area to pickup an order from Joann's. I was just looking for dinosaur fabric to make mask for our neighbors children but I guess mentioning Joann's set him off. It takes 2 weeks to get an order from Joann's and I'm sure he has some fabric in stock that would have worked and been a sale for the store. read more

My top fabrics stores are in LA (B. Black & Sons), San Francisco (Britex), and NYC (Mood). But as you can see/read I'm in Boston for the moment so those aren't an option, and I only needed cotton fabric to whip something up. I stopped in yesterday to grab a few yards of fabric. At first I was skeptical because I walked in (the only customer in the store) and the woman who was working there totally ignored me for a few mins. before asking if I needed any help. The reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars is because the gentleman that was there is super friendly and helpful and was thrilled that I paid in cash. Lol. He let me know that he appreciated my business and I appreciated that. A lot of the fabric is at 30% off which is always lovely and there is a plethora of colors and prints. read more

So I've been all around Meford/Somerville/Cambridge looking for a good fabric store. In addition to larger chains, I've checked out SewLow and Sewfisticated, both of which carry a dizzying array of outdated grandma fabrics. On the contrary, the Fabric Corner has all new fabrics. And while a good amount of it is not my taste (bright batiks and quilting fabric) the first thing I saw when I walked in was a large selection of Amy Butler. Past that, I noticed that they were starting to stock some really beautiful Marimekko-like decor weight fabric. I talked to the owner (who was probably the nicest, happiest person on earth) who said he's planning on stocking even more modern fabrics and his inventory turns over. In fact, he just ordered a huge lot of Amy Butler's Nigella line, which he'll be selling at $9.99/yd! I definitely plan on going back soon! read more

In a perfect world, there would be a fabric store that carried cute, affordable prints, home decor fabrics, had friendly customer service, and a great location. Fabric Corner really tries to be all of these, but falls just a touch short. The place is lovely for quilters, I have to imagine, as the majority of the stock is yummy "handpainted' batiks and Amy Butler prints, priced from $10 up. The home dec. fabric was lovely, but in the $20/yard range (making that slipcover I had planned into a $300 "bargain"...egads!). They do have a small selection of silks, taffetas, fuzzy things, flannel - but nothing amazing. And only if I were buying 1/4 yard increments of the cotton prints (as I would as a quilter) could I possibly afford to make anything here. The real killer, though? The store, which is conveniently located on Mass Ave in Arlington, smells exactly like the inside of a nail salon. My boyfriend was a great sport and came along with me to check it out (and help plan said slipcover), but was dizzy from the fumes in minutes and down for the count for the rest of the afternoon. Moral of the story: if you're a quilter with money to burn, and really want a hodge-podge batik bedspread, come here, blow $150, and you'll be all set. For the rest of us, keep wishing that Fabric Place hadn't gone out of business, and wait until you get a chance to go to NYC and get real designer discount fabrics. read more

My quilter mother and I loved this store, I found exactly what I needed for the backing of my quilt at a great price! My new favorite store for sure! An extensive selection with a wide variety of fabric types/designers. Of note, they have an incredible selection of Batiks. Very well organized. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. The owner of the store was engaged with customers and according to a store associate the store has been in his family since the 1960s. Also a plus, they have a mailing list that offers a monthly 40% off one item coupon. For the knowledgeable fabric shopper it has everything you need and nothing you don't--this is not a boutiquey shop, it is purely about fabulous fabric (good selection of threads and basic accessories are available, but fabric is definitely their focus). I have to say that this place is my new favourite fabric store...even though admitting that I even think about which fabric store is my favourite kind of makes me feel creepy, like some kind of Suzy Homemaker 1950's throwback. My partner and I went in today looking for enough fabric to make curtains for our entire apartment. The store is extremely clean and organised, especially for a fabric store. It has an impressive selection of decorating fabrics, absolutely beautiful prints, silks etc. which are all excellent quality. My partner and I are both *really* picky about fabrics but we were still able to find stuff we both loved for every room in our place. I cannot overstate how nice the guy was. We had to ask him questions a half-dozen times before we finally decided on what to get, and every time he was genuinely friendly and really knowledgeable. Yet he wasn't smothering, he let us browse all we wanted and I never felt pressured or rushed. We needed the guy's help calculating, based on the size of our stupidly massive windows, how many panels I would need of each fabric and how many yards we should buy. He did it all in his head (impressive) and seemed happy to help. Also, he knocked the price down a dollar or two on two of the three fabrics we bought. I think he must have been the owner, to be able to do that, and it might have had something to do with the fact that we were buying a few hundred dollars worth of fabric, but it was still really nice. I was also impressed when I overheard the other clerk on duty offer to cut free swatches for a lady who wanted to check to make sure some fabrics matched her furniture. At one point the guy asked how we learned about the store and when we told him we found out about it on Yelp, he seemed really pleased (I guess it's sending a number of new customers his way) and after we chatted with him a while more he offered us a 10% discount (on top of the price reductions he already gave us), which was awesome. Anyway, in sum: really friendly staff, clean and organised, nice selection, good prices and some room to bargain if you're buying in volume. Parking was easy to find, and free. And the store definitely had a ramp leading down into it, so I think it's accessible, although I don't remember if there was a step at the door itself. Though I didn't require any assistance while I was there, I did overhear the owner talking to a customer and another sales associate talking to a different customer. I am very frustrated dealing with Fabric Corner in Arlington. I left two chairs to be covered and when ever I call to find out if they are ready I get a fax machine response. We asked for an e-mail address and they told us they did not use one and it is a long way to drive to be told that the chairs are not ready. I remain hopeful that they will do a good job but it is frustrating not to be able to call. read more

I'm not a seamstress, but I do live with one occasionally. My wife's mother is currently in town and they have embarked on making pajamas with our two young ones. The store is in the basement under a nail salon (so we suggest going on a Sunday as there's no smell like the one mentioned in other reviews). Aww, this place is so cute~. I went in looking for a zipper and a zipper foot for my sewing machine. They had both (and a wide variety of zippers, I was pleased to note). I was in a touch of a hurry so I didn't stop to browse the fabric, but they clearly had a wide variety to choose from. Definitely will be back for that. But the best part of the experience was undoubtedly the people. So nice! A gentleman helped me out with finding the right foot for my machine, and then while I was checking out, a lady came over to say hi. They were so friendly and casual and sweet! Made me feel right at home. Price-wise they seem a bit cheaper than JoAnn's, which is nice, and they're located right along my commute, so they're terribly convenient (which could be a bad thing, considering how much I love to sew). My biggest complaint is that there's no good place for me to lock up my bike, but hey, that's not their fault. I would just advise anyone biking there to come with a friend so you can have a bike-sitter outside while you go in to browse. read more

Nice selection of modern designer quilting fabrics & a super friendly staff. I visited this shop back in June and was pleased to find a great deal of the inventory was my aesthetic. More often than not local fabric shops cater toward older ladies and their love for small calico prints. I also find the staff of said shops to be less than pleasant to those of us not in our twilight years. This is not one of those shops. The staff is a delight. The owner is fantastic, it is evident he loves his job! They have a nice selection of domestic designer quilting fabrics as well as Japanese imported fabrics. They also have a variety of non-quilting fabrics however, I didn't really check those out. I wish I lived closer, I would shop here often. Alas, I am stuck with supporting online shops for now. The prices are what you would expect for a brick & mortar shop carrying designer fabrics, a bit more than you'd pay online but it's worth it to support a local shop. read more

A lovely independent fabric store. The staff here have always been very kind and helpful. They have a wide selection of quilting cottons in many styles including contemporary designers. But they also have a reasonable selection of fashion fabrics. They stock a number of nice designer jerseys and have some good skirt and shirt fabrics. While not as many "flowy" fabrics as some other stores, the ones they do carry are solid quality. And of course all the "notions" you could need. read more

Based on the number of good reviews here I decided to drop by the Fabric Corner today for materials to make curtains. I am a novice seamstress--mostly do small mending and button sewing by hand, so I was pretty intimidated going in here. But I was SO pleasantly surprised!! The three employees there (including the owner) asked me if I needed help which I certainly did. The three of them put their heads together and helped me determine how much fabric I needed for my project, and not just that but economically. I was buying expensive fabric so they helped me figure out a way to do it that would save me a couple of yards. The woman who was helping me drew out a diagram of how to cut and sew the hems, and the other gentleman explained how to use the stitch witchery. All in all--this was a great experience. They were very encouraging about my project, despite the fact that I'm not very experienced with sewing. Also--the fabric choices were GREAT! I found what I wanted right away when I walked in. The only hard part was picking between three amazing fabrics that I spotted right away. The only reason I'm giving four out of 5 stars is because it was a touch more expensive than I was hoping. But really--the customer service they provided really made it worth it for me. read more

This place has bad news written all over it. at least for me. I moved to Arlington and after a year and a half of avoiding the store my last sewing machine needle broke. I was frantically trying to finish something so I frantically succumbed to temptation and went in. I thought from the monthly email coupons and suburban location it would have gobs of nasty quilting fabrics and not much else. I was totally surprised when I walked in. They were totally helpful in helping me find my new sewing machine needles and after taking a quick glance at the fabrics I decided I had to go back. I did. Now, usually, I like weird retro fabrics for upholstery, clothing and home decorating but since I have a baby on the way I now am obsessed with finding some cute baby fabric that doesn't make me puke. This place had it all! The prices I thought were pretty fare, and I do like supporting a local shop instead of a big chain. It's scary for me because if I walk in looking for a simple thing I walk out with an overdrawn bank account. I go crazy in fabric stores and this is no exception, it's just so close I can walk which makes it all to convenient. Oh, and it;s right by the Dr. office. There is parking in the back that's $1 per hour if you can't find anything on the street. It's also right off the Minuteman trail if you were needing to take a shopping break from a bike ride or doggy walk. great place with awesome employees. damn you for taking all my money! read more
