Every time I have entered this establishment, I have felt as though I was bothering the staff. Their selection is great. Attitudes are not as much. I called once for help with losing a needle of a very expensive set I had bought there, and I was told that my question was odd, she had never heard it before in her years of working at a yarn store. I just wanted to know if their rep or owner would have insight. I don't work for a yarn store, so I've never spoken to a rep, but I spent almost $200 on these needles and specified I wasn't seeking a refund, just help. Also, they are homophobic openly. In this, the year 2026, do better. Edit: every time I've gone in I've been followed. I have tattoos and am queer looking. I received scoffs at my questions. This solidified a decision I made in January when your staff was rude for the third time not to give you my business ever again. There's nothing to discuss. Be better. read more

Another Yarn is truly in another league for knitters. I can find every popular yarn and needle set there. The staff are delightful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about each project. Went in during super sale looking for dk yarn. The woman behind the counter brought me to the area with single skeins for $2. Turned out it wasn't the right yarn. I asked the owner for assistance and she told me two yarns to look for. Can't tell you where they are you'll have to look yourself. I ordered yarn on March 22, 2023 and was told it would be in a week and also charged on my credit card and I might add not inexpensive. I called after two weeks and was told the order was in but the owner was on vacation and she was the one who only opened the boxes and to callback on Tuesday when she returns. I called back and the second woman I spoke with was not very pleasant, stated my order was not in . . . I explained I was told it was in but had to be opened by the owner . . . She responded with all back and ask for Teresa, the owner. I called spoke with Teresa relayed I was told the order would be available in a week, etc., She told me they were having an issue with that particular yarn and I was not the only customer waiting. My response was as a courtesy couldn't someone call with that information? The response was im sorry I don't know what else to tell you . . . I received a call on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 that the order was with UPS and it perhaps could be there Thursday or Friday. And guess what I have not received call this yarn was delivered to Another Yarn. I might also add other yarn shops I have dealt with do not charge my credit card until the order is in . . . This store used to be in Winchester and recently moved to Burlington opposite Cafe Escadrille. The Burlington space is even larger than what they had in Winchester and for a yarn shop, it's very zen and not packed to the rafters with yarn, so it isn't overwhelming to browse. Most of the yarn is hung on pegs on the wall so it's easy to see all the colors without digging into bins. (They don't have a lot of swatches, though.) They carry quite a bit of Berroco and Rowan, and I think I saw some Schaenmeyer and Madeline Tosh, so it is higher end, but in a nod to the thrifty, they do carry DY yarn, which is more affordable. There were some yarns from New England, I don't remember the brands. Overall, I feel this is a more selective, curated collection than what you would find at most yarn shops. They also have a huge selection of Knitter's Pride needles, as well as some Skacel, buttons, and a small selection of notions. There was a magazine shelf, but overall very little in the way of books and patterns. The service is pretty friendly, they will wind skeins, and they have workshops also if you need help. Wandered in here one day quite by accident and was impressed. Huge pile of discount leftovers, wall after wall of flashy new and popular fiber companies, nice little kits which I love, and a very inviting atmosphere. Yarn can be extra high end or moderate low end, and Another Yarn has both so this is a good shop for all kinds of budgets. read more

Full disclosure: I come here to knit with my knitting group once a month, but otherwise am not affiliated. Often yarn shops are cramped,crowded affairs. You browse holding your elbows in to avoid knocking skeins onto the floors, squeezing to get past other customers while whispering "excuse me." Another Yarn is not that kind of shop. This is a spacious, well lit space where you can browse sans claustrophobia. The prices are clearly marked; the yarn selection is good. You can find big lines like Classic Elite, Cascade, Rowan and Brown Sheep as well as small lines like Swan Island Yarn, Woodstock Farm and others. Teresa is always looking for new lines to add. There's a wall of discounted yarns and a display of marked down last skein and/or discontinued colorways. You can find ribbon yarn, cashmere, a large assortment of notions and a corner of knitting books and pattern books. Sitting and knitting is encouraged, with two large tables, and an area with a few cushy chairs and a rocking chair. There are displays around the store of lovely knitted garments. Often she has trunk shows on display. Classes are run frequently, including Nantucket basket making (!) in addition to beginning knitting and lace knitting. If there's anything knitting you need, Another Yarn's got you covered. Also, there's a free parking lot, and the shop is within easy walking distance from the Winchester train station. read more

I was tired of going to Michael's, wanted some special yarn for some holiday projects, discovered Another Yarn on Yelp, and I'm glad I did! Although I've only gone once, Another Yarn was the best of the local yarn stores I've ventured into recently. Upon entering, I was greeted by a sweet dog, dogs are always a plus in my book! Not only is the selection of yarns varied, but there are various classes, cozy spots to sit and knit and set times when I can come in for some help. This is the best yarn store there is in this area! The owner, Teresa, and her staff are amazing, patient and excellent mentors for people with varying abilities, working on or contemplating projects of any kind. I am currently making an Irish knit sweater from a pattern I bought online. This is the first sweater I have ever made. While I am familiar with cables, etc., I wasn't sure about decreases and raglan for the sleeves. Teresa walked me through the pattern and showed me what I needed to know. Horrible service by the owner. She is a Mean Little Old Lady. She sponsored a trunk show by Stacey Charles / Takhi Yarns. She opened up the store early for the trunk show. I was busy that day, so I got to the store when it first opened, just after 9 AM. She was by the registers gossiping with Stacey Charles. She couldn't be bothered to say, 'Hello' or greet me when I entered the store. I looked at the store, went counter clockwise. Still, no one bothered to greet me. Yet, she chatted up another customer, who, unlike me, had come to chat and not to buy. I looked at the samples on the rack and made the hangers squeak obnoxiously. Still, no one bothered to greet me. Why is this important: I had $250 in my pocket and I was looking to buy yarn for a sweater project. I really liked one of the samples. I would have purchased the pattern and the yarn had either of them bothered to do their jobs. They were too busy gossiping to make a sale. I left in disgust, saying, "If you can't be bothered to greet a customer, you can't be bothered to get a sale." I had signed up for the newsletter from this horrid place. After this rotten experience, I marked e-mails from this company as Spam AND I tried to unsubscribe via the options at the bottom of the newsletter. Visited this store this morning excited after noticing this new location. Arrived with a pattern - looking to explore my options for a gift I am making for my niece's birthday. The manager/owner (?) qualified to answer my questions regarding the yard necessary for my pattern was uninterested in helping me. The various yarns I selected were nowhere in their inventory. This apparently annoyed her. I felt as if I was a nuisance so left and googled yarn shops in my area - found Island Yarn in Maynard - who BTW had an abundance of yarns to select from - all in stock. With a wonderful attitude! Living in Concord - this is much more convenient. Apparently Another Yarn was not interested in my $200 purchase today. I will not visit Another Yarn again and suggest no one bother given the inventory is a bit sparse. read more

Well-stocked, spacious, friendly yarn store. The owner actually encouraged my two friends and me to empty the sale bins onto the carpeted floor and sort through the treasures therein. And there were treasures! And although they were already 40% off, the owner took another 50% off that. I will definitely return the next time I'm in the area. read more

I've been to the store three times and in this case, it was three strikes. She's OUT. The first time there, I didn't have the highest of expectations because several knitters had given it a thumbs down because of the "attitude" of the owner and one of her employees. However, I've found that sometimes LYS owners aren't always warm and fuzzy initially but warm up over time. Not the best business model but there it is. I like to support LYS and squeezing the skeins and strolling is part of the experience. My first visit was ok. I didn't receive a warm and friendly welcome although other customers who arrived after me were greeted cheerily. Unless I need help, I don't require offers of assistance but it's nice to be acknowledged. There are many selections of yarns, magazines, books, pattern pamphlets and notions. The store is really, really bright with artificial light (it's tucked into a dark corner in a small shopping "plaza") and the store is spacious. There is a lot of room to move about without bumping into people, stumbling over sweater samples or worse, overturning a rack of precariously stacked skeins. I sometimes shop just to feed my stash and have no particular project in mind. After being in the store an hour, I found a few booklets, much yarn and the total was around $300. Lukewarm reception, generally ignored but the yarns were lovely and I was happy with what I bought; not so happy with the owner. The second time I visited, I had a specific project in mind and purchased a few booklets (around $20 - $25 each) and yarn for my project totaled around $350. Again, a lukewarm reception, generally ignored and I knew this store would never, ever become my "go-to" and I will drive wherever it takes to find what I need. This time, she had a snotty sidekick who was really good at being dismissive. The third and final visit (because I will never step foot in the store again even if the owner decided to sell cashmere for $2.00/skein), I was completely ignored, the reception was COLD. Juuuuuust to make sure it wasn't my imagination, I asked her about a new pattern book and she became animated for 6 seconds while describing the great patterns in it. She said the book hadn't arrived nor had the yarns arrived and she was still waiting. She did not offer to contact me when the book arrived nor did she ask if I would like to preorder it. I would have paid for it on the spot and I would have paid for the shipping because I knew I'd never go in there again and I also knew how difficult the book was to locate generally. She simply turned and walked away. I would have walked out except the project was for a friend who needed cheering and I wanted to get started on it immediately. The total was around $300. My friend wasn't enthusiastic about the yarn and I had unrolled three colors of the skeins ($22/each) in order to swatch the pattern. I didn't like the hand of the yarn and the colors were dull and flat when knitted. I returned the undisturbed skeins (the return policy is store credit) and the owner was beyond snotty, beyond rude, beyond patronizing and spoke to me in a loud, disapproving tone that caused the two knitters sitting at the table to turn around and look at me. The owner actually was trying to call me out FROM ACROSS THE ROOM, just for returning yarn (Btw, there are rarely more than 4-6 people in that large space and I've been there at various times so it isn't as if there are lines of people ready to turn over money for nonessential luxe yarn purchases so maybe she has no idea she should be trying to attract and retain customers) Was there a reason she couldn't walk over to me and ask about the return instead of popping off to me with "IS THERE SOME STORY BEHIND THIS YARN ON THE COUNTER??" I took several deep breaths and politely responded. Her lips curled and turned down and it was radio silence. Honestly, she's selling yarn, not saving lives in an ER and I wanted to ask her to simma down because it's only yarn but I'm trying to avoid drama. I was determined to use every dollar because if she'd given me a store credit, she would have simply profited from the balance because there is no way I'm going back there EVER and I knew that as soon as she ignored me when I walked in. I ended up owing $8 + change. I brought a bag for the yarn and asked her to use it. Recycle, recycle, recycle. She REFUSED to use it, saying "It's easier to use mine." She rang it up, I paid her and she condescended to give me a phony smile at the end and I said, "Don't worry; there won't be anymore 'stories' behind yarn exchanges because I don't plan to come back here again." She said (loudly and with a pained expression), "ExCUSE ME??" to which I responded, "You heard me." I turned away and walked out of the store. I also ditched the bag she forced on me as soon as I got outside because I'm not giving free advertisement to a rude, hostile person to whom I paid $300+ ... for YARN. read more

I went in specifically asking for sport weight sock yarn. The store employee (not sure if it was the owner or not) assisted me and assured me that my selection was sport weight. When using the yarn for my pattern, I noticed that it was not gauging properly, so I looked it up and discovered that the yarn was actually a light fingering weight. I do not appreciate being given misinformation, especially when paying $20 for 100g of yarn. Now I don't have my receipt, so I'm stuck with yarn that doesn't work for my pattern. I've been trying to find a local LYS since I moved back to my stomping grounds. I came across this place visiting the Soluna Tea store two doors down (BEAUTIFUL mother's day bouquets there, by the way!) and kept it in the back of my mind. It sits in a cozy corner of the mini-plaza near the Winchester rotary. When I needed some Berrocco yarn for a crochet project two months ago it seemed like the right time. Living here in MA there are plenty of little yarn spots and I have visited most of them. Haverhill has a nice sewing/yarn center but they focus on quilting and their yarn selection is extremely limited; the city yarn shops have a great selection but the parking (and the Boston attitude) can be a pain; Salem's yarn shop is sweet and amazing but the traffic there, especially in the fall, can be a nightmare. There's one on the Plaistow, NH line but the hours are a little wonky and honestly I felt like I was in a cramped closet when I perused their selection. Getting to Another Yarn seemed fitting, especially since the traffic quiets down on 93 south while everyone takes 93 north and they close later than most yarn spots I've visited. I went in and the owner greeted me. I told her that I was a first time visitor and I just wanted to see what she had. She let me know that she would be teaching someone but that I could ask her any questions if I had any. I perused, touched and looked around for a good hour-maybe more. I love that the lighting is bright so that you can see the ripples and details in each skein (HUGE pet peeve: dark yarn stores). I looked around again while she helped someone learn a new knitting technique. I noticed the granny square scarf and the upscale crochet hooks on the wall and did a little leap of joy. This place isn't just for knitters, people! The owner helped an elderly woman that came in and wanted to know about fabric care. As the daughter of a huge family that mostly works at fabric mills and a former fabric store employee myself I can tell you that this owner knows what she's talking about. The second time around I went for a look but I concentrated on the sale items. They have a good selection of discounted yarn and their older magazines and pattern books go down to A DOLLAR. They're in a little corner that I completely missed. You can't beat a Vogue Knitting or Crochet magazine with over 30 patterns for that price. I grabbed some Berrocco comfort on sale to make some headbands and a bunch of magazines. Last night I needed to make a big order for a baby blanket commission. I called other yarn stores but they couldn't fulfill it or they didn't have the colors the client requested. I stopped here and the owner was able to find the exact color of yarns. She placed an order and will have it for me on Friday or Saturday at the latest. Can't beat that especially since I avoid the shipping fee of most online sites and I can hang out there and start crocheting the piece and getting ideas. I love that this place is spacious enough that you can stick around and knit or crochet with the yarn around you as inspiration. You don't even have to be involved in a class, you can come by with a project, sit on the couch or one of the long tables and knit/crochet to your heart's content. This is going to be my new little hideaway. read more

I have been a regular at Another Yarn since it opened two years ago. The selection of yarn and accessories is beautiful and varied, the store is attractively laid out, with plenty of comfortable, bright space for knitting, the staff is welcoming, and Teresa, the owner, is an expert who can help you through any knitting/crocheting confusion. As a regular, I hear Teresa greet each customer with a cheerful, "Can I help or would you just like to browse on your own?" However, you answer is okay with Teresa. She'll help you choose a project or let you squish yarn until your heart's content. I regularly recommend Another Yarn to knitters and would-be knitters in the area. I love to shop there, or just sit, relax, and knit. The only thing wrong with Another Yarn is that it is not closer to my house. read more

There was a wide variety of yarn choices in this roomy shop. I liked the feel of the space. When I walked in, there was a group of women working on projects. One of the women asked if I needed any help. I let her know I was just browsing. I don't have any specific need for any projects so I didn't buy any yarn. But I do plan to go back when I have a need. The only drawback from the visit is I did feel as if I walked into a group of friends having a knitting circle. I think that if I go on a regular basis - that feeling will lessen. read more

This place got great reviews so I took my project here for help. Was greeted by a very friend woman named Chris. Chris helped me and fixed my mistake in no time. I asked her about classes and she gave me a card with several available classes for knitters of all levels. Decided to check out a class today to try and finish my project in a helpful environment. As a new knitter, I did make a few mistakes and was helped by the owner herself. The owner was very friendly and was patient with knitters of all levels who needed help. Another Yarn in Winchester, MA has been open for 2 years and is a great place to do business with. The shop has a great feel to it, lots of beautiful yarn and yarn related items. Teresa is the owner of the shop, she is friendly and sooo knowledgeable, and very willing to help you through any problem you are having. The shop is quite large and has several area's that are knit friendly. Almost always when I visit the shop, there are a group of women who are sharing their love of knitting, sharing their ideas and especially their knowledge of knitting. I have been coming to this shop for about a year and a half. I did not know the owner before I found this shop but it has become my home away from home because Teresa is so warm and welcoming. The shop is spacious and extremely well lit with large tables to work at and a grouping of comfy armchairs. The yarn selection is extensive and ranges from moderately priced basics to lux designer yarns, silks and cashmeres. There is also an excellent selection of books and patterns along with many inspiring samples. There is almost always somebody just sitting and knitting or working at the tables to put their project together. There are classes and knit alongs for every level of skill as well as sessions to get help with any project you are working on and social knitting on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoon. Teresa is extraordinarily knowledgable and generous about providing help to people who just walk in with a project as long as she is not occupied helping a customer with yarn or pattern selection. She is as helpful to the budget constrained customer as to the cashmere "yarnaholic" regular. She also provides blocking, finishing and repair services. I have been to many yarn shops in many cities over the years and Another Yarn is by far my favorite. PS. I witnessed the last visit described by BW and need to add that there are definitely two sides to every story. Teresa was busy helping another customer when she walked in and dumped the return yarn on the counter. The yarn was smushed tightly in a zip lock bag. The chip on her shoulder was immediately obvious. If I turned and looked it was because her nasty attitude was so obvious and unusual in that store. Yet Teresa graciously accepted the return without complaint and helped her find new yarn. She was truly startled and upset when BW yelled something unintelligible as she stalked out the door. read more

I was thrilled to find this yarn store. My first experience with the store was fabulous. I am a novice knitter and was knitting a poncho for my daughter. I was increasing in two place, every two rows. Well I put my work down for a few months and forgot what I was doing and where. I took a chance a went in and was helped with a smile, by what turned out to be the owner Teresa. The minute I walked in I was greeted with a "can I help you with anything?" She gained my loyalty immediately. Even though I am pretty inexperienced, she is ALWAYS very patient with me and my questions. She is never pushy and always available for help/questions. Her selection of yarns range from large known companies to small independent one person artisan spinners from Nova Scotia. The store is bright, crisp and inviting. She also carries a large selection of buttons and clasps. I will be learning to crochet from her as well very soon. I highly recommend this store! read more

This is a lovely yarn shop but beware of getting involved with any of the projects offered by the shop. The expectation that the owner would be prepared for each month's square. (This is an Aran afghan) with squares has not been met. The excuses range from "the printer broke", a bad cold and others didn't want to do another square this month.
