This store is small but mighty! If you're looking to shop for some cute home goods for yourself or for gift-giving, this place has a nice selection ranging from elegant to whimsy. I like to peruse their kitchen gadgets and collection of bundt cake pans. They carry a variety of local Rhode Island goodies, too, like spices and the Rhody Hen hot sauce. Last time I came here, I bought some treats for my dad's birthday and purchased one their birthday cards too that they have on display at the register. In the summer, I love to come in and buy a cup of the Nitro Cart Cold Brew that they have on tap. This little kitchen store is the absolute best. It may be small, but they have one of everything you will ever need. Immediately upon entering, you are greeted warmly with a smile. Frankly, most of these items are out of my comfort zone/price range, but it's all so beautiful and temptingly curated and displayed. Stock is the place to go for kitchen gift items and/or for serious cooks. Stock also strongly supports other RI food-based businesses. You can pick up Dave's Coffee syrups and beans right here on Hope Street. They also have one of the two NitroCart coffee carts I'm aware of on this part of town (and without the hour wait you'd find at PVDonuts). On Sunday, we were surprised to see that they also offer some of those donuts for sale - again, without the line, people! This little shop on Hope street is the cutest. I wanted to buy everything inside from the cutting boards to the glassware. There are some really unique things inside and some of them even resemble Rhode Island. The staff is also really friendly and welcoming. I went to Stock for their Stocktoberfest where they had lots of local businesses throughout the store. Each of them were giving samples and answering questions about their businesses. I was able to try some beer, coffee, ice cream, and donuts. I definitely recommend visiting for one of their pop up parties like this! Stopped in for some wedding presents, and was graciously and patiently help by two employees. This place is a wonderland of kitchen and food products, so uniquely curated. There are so many great hand crafted beautiful items, as well as items that are now my kitchen essentials. It was busy, but clean and safe and the employees there we so nice and enthusiastic, it was infectious! I got some lovely blown glass carafes, but was debating between some beautiful handmade cutting boards or ceramics. I even got a few things for myself! Love this store, love the people there! I find myself in Stock anytime I'm in the area- and that's pretty often considering all the other shops around Hope Street! It's a great, well-curated shop with all the kitchen essentials you need like knives, cast iron, enameled dutch ovens (mostly Le Cruset), and more. Of course, there's a whole lot of nice gadgets and trinkets for coffee, bar, and other stuff too. They even have cookbooks arranged on a shelf and also all over the store. I can appreciate that they have stuff from local artists, too! For a lot of things I like to shop locally to get them, so Stock is definitely my go-to for gifts and cooking-related purchases for myself. After a few more visits, I have to say I'm not really a fan of Stock anymore. My husband and I stopped in together one time and after inquiring about knife sharpening services, the owner not-so-inadvertently insulted the quality of our knives. Sorry Henckels and Wusthof aren't up to your snuff. She also spent a good chunk of time complaining about people who want to buy everything on Amazon. I've run into this issue with other Providence store owners and it really rubs me the wrong way. If you've got beef with a certain type of customer do not, I repeat, DO NOT make me suffer the consequences of that beef! Especially considering that I was buying a market bag that I had seen on Amazon but decided to support a local business instead! And my last visit in the store I bought a Weck tulip jar for $6. I was on my way to the farmers market and didn't have much cash so I asked if debit payment was OK and she saw I had cash in my wallet so responded with, "maybe you could pay cash for *SUCH* a small purchase?" Sure, I totally get the whole credit fees fiasco that most small business owners deal with but it was the tone she took that also insinuated she was bothered that I wasn't making a bigger purchase. And then the icing on the cake was when she didn't want to give me a bag for the glass jar and instead suggested I put it in my purse. Um, no. I need a bag and even some tissue to wrap around that bad boy, thankyouverymuch. So, yeah, I'm all set with Stock. read more

So, you can imagine my delight at this beautiful new shop perched just steps from my home! I now have a place to purchase gifts for everyone in my family, most of my friends and even myself. I was impressed by the selection of items in the store - beautiful, stylish and of great quality. Worth mentioning are the fantastic prices - $33 for a gorgeous solid wood salad bowl? You can't beat that. The display of tastefully colorful dish towels and aprons had me pining, too. What I love about Stock is the over-all vibe - I was lucky enough to have a chat with the owner about her philosophy, inspiration for the shop and love for all things kitchen-related. The big, cozy sofa in the middle of the store is there because, when you have a visitor in your home, where do you most often end up? In the kitchen. Jan (the owner) wants everyone to feel that they're welcome to sit, chat, and learn a few cooking tips while visiting. I had been purposefully avoiding this place for a long time now, b/c the last thing I need is yet another kitchen gadget that I absolutely have to have now despite the fact that I don't cook nearly as much as I ought to. But alas, I cracked, made my way over, and surprised myself by not spending nearly as much as I thought I would for what I bought. I found a gorgeous wooden server that I simultaneously gifted and envied for myself from a local woodworker based out of Warren, RI and bought myself a beautiful granite cheeseboard that I always wanted despite the fact that I normally munch on cheese straight from the fridge. And then I started making a list of all the other beautiful things I want which will end up gathering dust in my underutilized kitchen, both locally/regionally made (heavy copper pots, Vermont wooden bowls) and imported (the small size Romertopf I've been eyeing and a Japanese mystery knife that the worker couldn't ID, but that looks to be the exact style of geoduck knife that was once confiscated from me at Narita airport). So ya, I like this place, I reaaaaally like all the designy stuff, and of course now I need to come back soon. After all, every kitchen needs a modern looking tagine. read more

Even a bad chef need good tools. What a beautiful shop, it makes me wish I were a more adventurous cook. I was in here in search of a rolling pin and I walked out with a lovely marble one for only $25 ...though I did have the option of a "hand-turned" model - I believe that refers to how the wood was carved and not that it was automatic rolling pin. I am currently poring through my collection of old wooden spoons, bent spatulas and burnt cutting boards (I will never live that one down) to see what will be my next Stock purchase. What a great little place. This is run by a hubby and wife team that where possible, try to stay local, in some cases that just means made in the US of A. They are just getting started and I think they have some ideas floating around that might really set them apart. On this trip we purchased a carbide chefs knife. Made in Mass. Carbide is stronger than Stainless and will keep an edge a lot longer. They do patina (turn colors) quickly if you don't clean them off fast, but it has no impact to the knife. In fact, that is just how it prevents rust in the future. Anyway, these are fantastic knives and I was extremely happy to find a place that sells them and not just Wustofe or Global One of the other things I saw that was impressive is their set of copper pots and pans. These are locally made as well and heavy. If you go in there and go to pick one up, you will remember... 'he said it was heavy.' Then you will pick it up and go 'CRAP!, he did not say it was that heavy!' Well, now I have. So be warned. Anyway, I think this is fantastic that they have them, but at just around $500.00 for a pan, they may not sell that fast. So I hope they mix it up a little bit. I am not recommending getting too far off center, but even in RI, this is a tad on the high side. All of that being said, I am a fan and I hope those on and around Hope street give this place the well deserved support. read more

I love this little store. It's tiny inside but they do try to make the most of the space. Their offerings are similarly confined, but the items they do carry are generally the desirable ones, whether for quality or reputation. The one not-unexpected drawback here--as indeed one finds in many buy-locales--is pricing. Prices are steep, to the point that buying local becomes more of a trendy slogan than a practical alternative. Their rent's gotta be paid...but so does mine. So I'd spend $25, on one oven mitt, to make myself feel better, but unfortunately not much more. read more

Wow, talk about one of the nicest kitchen stores I've ever been to, ever. The inventory here is so well-chosen. It seems like many times, kitchen stores or gift shops tend to overlap quite a bit in inventory. But Stock is a step above in the culinary category. They offer excellent quality functional items like cast iron skillets and kitchen cooking utensils, but also things that veer into the area of design objects and accessories. It strikes a really unique balance. Upon walking into the store, my friend and I were immediately greeted by the friendly associate at the counter (a good sign, and much appreciated). We proceeded to make our rounds... slowly... because quite literally every object was right up our alley: Mast Brothers chocolate bars. Hand-blown (yes! I've only ever seen these online, never in person) Chemex drip coffee vessels of different sizes. High-quality kitchen towels, including linen. All-Clad pans. Dave's Coffee syrup in different flavors. Colorful, patterned ceramic ice cream bowls. Gorgeous Le Creuset baking dishes. Marimekko cocktail napkins. Stylish paper straws and cupcake wrappers. Investment-grade Japanese knives. And over in the books and magazines section, the latest copy of Lucky Peach Magazine. Basically, whether you're 24 or 74, you'll find something that catches your eye. Sadly, I am a graduate student on a grad student budget, so I couldn't buy everything in the store (which I definitely wanted to do). But this place is now on the top of my list for where to buy gifts for friends and family, or indulgences for myself. Even the space is easy to move through; it doesn't feel claustrophobic, but it isn't too sparse and precious, either. It's very well-styled. I anxiously awaited the opening of Stock a few months ago, and now that it has opened I have not been disappointed. It's weird because there isn't much inventory in the store, but it still draws me again and again. The store has a palette of creams and woods that is clean and calming. The owners are also friendly and while I haven't had a chance to chat them up, it's because they are always talking to another customer about the products and plan for the store. Fabulous shop for all things culinary.... I admit it, I'm a sucker for kitchen and serving pieces. I am so thrilled to have Stock Culinary Goods right in the heart of Hope Street on the east side of Providence. What an awesome store!!!! They have such beautiful, well crafted items, and I love that there's new merchandise every time I stop by. It's such a great place to find gifts in every price range. The owner is super-friendly, super-passionate about the items she carries and super-knowledgeable about their origins and how they're made. I love that she stocks many items that are local & regional. The quality and craftsmanship of what they carry is so much better than many of the things I've purchased from the big box and Beyond stores. And it's surprisingly affordable. I bought cute write-on ceramic jars for $9, an oyster shucking knife (made in MA) for $16, an iron pan (made in US) for $35 and a cake lifter (because I had to have it) for $18, just to name a few. Their higher-end serving pieces are gorgeous, all of the items are inspiring.... Pretty nice store. The setup needs some work but it's new and they could be working on it. I like the kind of products they carry, some of it a tad overpriced. $26 for a felt placemat? felt, a wicked cheap material?? I think not. Some music would be nice. I hadn't been in since they first opened, at which point they weren't really "stocked" (haha) yet. I left totally underwhelmed by the lack of merchandise and probably would never have returned were it not for the gift card I received over the holidays. I went in last week and was pleasantly surprised by all of the fun items they have (some of which were local...yay!). I ended up getting a cute cutting board in the shape of a pig as a gift for my charcuterie-loving dad as well as a set of fluted biscuit cutters for myself. I feel as though the descriptions of these items gives one a good idea of the store in general: is anyone actually looking for a pig-shaped cutting board? If shopping for kitchen supplies, is a set of fluted biscuit cutters high on the list? Probably not. This store is not one you'd go into to purchase your every day kitchen staples (unless you were terribly quirky and had lots of money to blow), which is why I'd classify it as either a place you'd come to purchase a gift or to get yourself a novelty item you'd get only after your kitchen had all the regular necessities. I was super excited to check this place out! I'm a huge fan of all things cooking and I don't really know of too many places in the area that cater to all that is kitchen. Getting run of the mill stuff at Crate & Barrel or Williams-Sonoma is OK, but there really hasn't been a place nearby to get a specialty item or a really lovely gift. I like that there is a couch in the center of the store - those that aren't interested can sit and wait without rushing you! Also, a few kid themed kitchen toys will keep the little ones occupied. I felt bad that nothing caught my eye on Saturday. I hope to be back soon to check in when they are filled up with more products.
