We had recently visited Japan and were interested to see if we'd find some of our favorite products here and were happily surprised were there. They have a large selection of prepared foods, including some incredible looking sushi (I wish we had bought some). The cold drinks had a great selection of options with some hard to find flavors and brands. From the produce to meat, seafood, and shelf stable items, it was overwhelming how much this store had. I loved the wide variety of candies and snacks. We picked up some new-to-us and some familiar items while we were here. I also picked up some spices and ingredients that are harder to find. The pricing on everything was very fair, and considering that a lot of these items are imported and not always easy to source, I was so excited! The staff was also friendly and efficient, since there was a festival going on the store was very crowded, but the check out lines moved quickly.

It feels a little bit fancy and elevated but not stuffy at all. We sat at the communal table since it was pretty packed on a Thursday night. The service was a bit slow but everyone was very friendly. We ordered the mystery box ($65 for the non premium option) and the creamy scallop roll. The box was beautiful and presented so well! It was also a surprisingly large portion, as each dish contained 2 slices of sashimi and rice under. I was stuffed at the end. Definitely good for sharing. Everything tasted so fresh and it was so fun to try all the different varieties! Would definitely order again. The creamy scallop roll was also fantastic. So flavorful and also pretty with the yellow tobiko. Would highly recommend!

We were able to walk in and get seated fairly quickly without much of a wait. We partly also chose this place due to its Japantown location and proximity to Daiso (we had some errands to run). As for food, we got the Kani Dofuno Agedashi as a starter, and then we also shared a few rolls: the spicy tuna maki, negitoro maki, creamy salmon roll, and 49ers roll. We also had a Sapporo and two sake flights! It was nice that every sake flight had totally different sake options to try as well as little name cards describing the drink. All the food was so delicious, and we would definitely not only all rate it a 10/10 but we would also come back another time to try more dishes! :) The ambiance was also nice and cozy! There's a lot of seating, at high tops, tables, or at the sushi bar! Definitely a great vibe. Only downside is that the bathrooms are outside, but that's fairly consistent across most Japantown restaurants. Overall, we were very happy with our dining experience :)

They had a final closing party this past Saturday, and we knew we had to stop by for few last drinks and bites. It was low key kinda sad as we had to say goodbye to some of our favorites. Over the years (past decade or so now) we've gotten to know the staff and this spot has been a spot where we knew we'd get great service, good convos, and of course tasty wings, totchos, and $1 oysters on Thursdays. Shout out to Matt, Tracy, Jeremy, and their entire team for the amazing hospitality over the years. Paina closing is a reminder that it's important to not take your favorite restaurants/bars for granted because you never know when that final day will eventually come and when it does it comes way too fast. I hope the team reads this as I just want to say THANK YOU for everything and that you will be missed. The memories and moments I've gotten to enjoy here over the years won't be forgotten!
